Disclaimer: ARTWWLI owns nothing. But that's just my penname... fine. Sam owns not Leviathan and respective series and content...Sad.
Newkirk was innocently walking Tazza past the linin closet when he heard two suspicious-sounding voices from inside. Naturally, as he felt was his duty as a midshipman in the British air service, he leaned an ear against the oak door to listen in.
"I'm just saying, it would be so much easier if you just explained the situation to Captain Hobbes." Said voice one.
"Are you kidding? He'd throw me off the barking ship without a second thought towards all the times I saved his sodding life!" Replied voice two indignantly. "You know how much flying means to me" voice two pleaded.
"But De-" voice one was muffled by what was either a cloth or the hand that undoubtedly belonged to voice two.
"Barking spiders! Don't call me that! Do you want the entire ship to know I'm a girl?" Cried voice two. Oh my Leviathan. Thought Newkirk This is unbelievable! Someone on the Leviathan is a girl pretending to be a boy!
The surprised midshipmen stumbled back, in shock. He heard shuffling behind the door and only barely had time to yank the ever impatient Tazza around the nearest corner before Dylan and Alek poked their heads around the door. "I could have sworn I heard something." said my fellow midshipmen Dylan Sharp.
"You would've sworn even if you hadn't heard anything." Replied Alek endearingly. Whoa whoa whoa... whoa. ENDEARINGLY? What the hell?
And suddenly everything clicked into place for Newkirk. It made so much sense. The secrecy, the hiding, the way he... no, she was always so socially awkward. This new fact explained everything.
War prisoner and American Alek Sander was a girl.
Okay, in case some of y'all didn't catch that, Alek is not actually a girl. Deryn is. Newkirk is just a dummkopf. REVIEW!
