Chapter 14 - Memoires Of A Lost Soul

"Yeah, I'll be over in a little while, Yami." Yuugi said brightly to a very confused Yami on the other end of the line. "I'll see you in an hour!"

Setting the phone aside, Yuugi looked around, searching for something, turning drawers over just for one or two little things. Satisfied when he heard the wedding ring fall to the floor, Yuugi replaced the object onto his finger. He admired it for a little bit, feeling ever so slightly nostalgic over something so small. "Now," he mumbled. "I know I've got it here somewhere..."

Yami stared out of his bedroom window, waiting for Yuugi to come see him. Yuugi had called him saying it was important that he talked to him about something...

Sakura burst into the room with a satisfying bang of the door and a cheerily Cheshire Cat grin on her face. Startled, Yami demanded, "Sakura, what has gotten into you?!" As he walked over to shut the door, he growls, "Has no one taught you any manners?!"

"Je suis desolée, mon frére." she apologized. "But it's almost time!" Puzzled, he inquired, "Time for what exactly?" Her jaw dropped. "Didn't you hear?" She shook her head in disappointment. "I thought someone would have brought word to you." Yami huffed, "Well, don't lead me on then! Tell me the news."

Sakura jumped him in her excitement. "I've been engaged!" Yami's face brighten at the good news. It's an excellent thing to hear since Amitos' disappearance.

"I think he's alive, Loki."

That simple statement made Yami look into her hazel eyes, wondering if she was telling him the truth. In a past life, she was a chronic liar who insisted on carrying burdens alone. Even though she had changed for the better, he finds it difficult to believe her sometimes. "Sakura," he started, shaking his head. "He's dead. Even if he was still alive somehow, why would he choose now to reappear?"

Yami stood there, arms crossed, his crimson eyes glowing. Sakura could only wonder, thinking that it did seem like a fool's chance that Amitos would return after so long after the incident. "I..." her voice trailed. "I don't know."

"I thought not." Yami smirked. "That's why I find it so difficult to believe you. For all you know, you're hallucinating." Sakura took offense to this. "You should know for a fact that I don't see things that aren't there!"

"Then maybe you're reading too much into this." he countered crossly. "Look, Amitos is dead until proven otherwise. Unless you have a way of proving his existence, then just drop it!" She stared at him in the eyes, taking the chance to read his mind. Doing so, she picked out a few memories of him and his lover that were precious to him. She then realized just how dearly he regarded the male he knew as his husband.

"And after all this time," she sighed. "You still wear the ring he gave you at the wedding?" Yami looked at her in shock. "Why wouldn't I? You know how much he meant to me." Sakura watched him intently. Yami looked at the ring he still wore. It's been sixteen years since then. Why does he still wear it when his husband is most likely crossed to the other side?

"Oh, and Yuugi said he wanted to talk to me." Yami casually mentioned. "Could you leave? We can finish this conversation later." Sakura knew that she had to be going since her own wedding was coming soon. She had to get ready! "Of course." she replied, her hazel eyes shining brightly. "Be ready for the wedding?"

"I wouldn't miss it for the world!" Yami winked. With that, Sakura disappeared in a flurry of white sparkles, leaving Yami standing there in silence.

Soon, he heard someone knocking on the front door. "Coming!" he called cheerily. When he opened it, however, there was no one there. "Hm?" He looked outside, left and right, but there wasn't a person in sight. "That's strange..." he mumbled, shutting and relocking the door.

He reentered his bedroom to see Yuugi sitting on the bed with a cheery look. "Hey, Yami!" Startled, Yami inquired, "How did you get up here?!"

Yuugi gestured to the window, which was mysteriously left open. "How do you think?" Yami just looked him over, his confusion quite obvious.

"So, you wanted to speak to me, Yuugi?" Yami inquired, turning his back for a moment and his crimson eyes closed. When he opened them, he saw Yuugi standing in front of him. This startled Yami, even more so when said male suddenly pins him to the floor. "It's been a while, hasn't it, Loki?" he whispered seductively into his ear.

Yami took the chance to push him up and look him in the eye, trying to piece together what was happening. "I... Impossible..." he whispered. Yami noticed that Yuugi was wearing the wedding ring he gave Amitos. "Amiti? Is it really you?"

~A/N:Sakura: Sorry to cut it short, but I was right before. I really did screw up again!

Yami: So... You're going to be editing even more now?

Yuugi: I think you're stressing yourself out too much over this, Sakura! :-/

Sakura: I don't even know anymore...

Yami: Something bothering you?

Sakura: A little, yes...

Yuugi: I'd say once she's done with the next chapter, she's earned her leave of absence for the time being. :)

Sakura: Please Review?

Next Chapter: Welcome Back

"Amiti? Wha... What's happening to me? I feel like I've gone numb..." Yami whispers just before he loses consciousness with Yuugi trying to wake him.
