Chapter 17 – Testing The Limits
Yuugi and Taki ran through the screaming crowds of civilians as the sky began to darken with gray clouds. Yuugi weaved his way around and towards the Kaiba Corp building where he could swear he saw his lover standing on the rooftop.
"Look!" he called to the brunette behind him. "There he is! Loki!" The male, Yami, didn't seem to hear him, turning away and disappearing from his sight. When they arrived at the building, Taki's dark wings sprouted almost immediately and took off for the top of the skyscraper.
Yuugi pictured himself with his typical white wings. Satisfied when he felt them appear, he kicked off the ground with such force, soon on the heels of Sakura's twin.
What he didn't expect, however, was Taki suddenly battling with another halfway up to the top of the building.
A flash of white light, the sight of pristine white dragon wings, Yuugi caught the eyes of Kaiba Seto while he was locked in combat with the female. His eyes were mysteriously colored with silver instead of the typical blue eyes that he was used to seeing.
Yuugi stopped and flew to the right slightly, slowing his ascent in favor of figuring out why the corporate CEO was attacking them, his pure white wings keeping him in the air.
"What…?" Yuugi mumbled as the duo fell past him. Feeling remorseful, he fashioned a bow and arrow, pulling back the string, aiming so that he didn't hit the CEO. When he released it, Kaiba seemed to have spotted the sharp, thin object.
The brunette caught the arrow and let it drop to the city below, casting him a cold glare before launching his attack towards Taki once again.
*Why didn't he attack? He had the chance!* Yuugi thought as the battle between them carried on. *Why leave me for her?!*
Yuugi materialized a quiver full of arrows and slipped the bow into the sheath. Concentrating as the brunettes moved ceaselessly through the air, he attempted to tap into Kaiba's mind.
He was forced back as quickly as he had come in. There was a very powerful barrier between him and Kaiba's mind. A surefire sign that he was under someone else's control.
"Loki must have done it," he whispered, watching as those silver-blue eyes glared at him after pushing Taki to the side. Yuugi took a deep breath and attempted to breach Kaiba's mental barrier to figure out what had happened. It became simpler to do so once Taki had pinned the difficult brunette to the wall of the building.
"You have the chance, kid," growled the female that held Kaiba captive. "Don't waste it!"
Yuugi once again attempted to breach the barriers of Kaiba's mind in hopes of breaking the spell that his lover had placed on him.
*"Kaiba."*
This single thought attracted the CEO's spiteful glare towards him. In a distorted voice, Kaiba demanded, "You think that I will succumb to your tricks, boy?" A cruel laugh was ripped from the male's throat. "I'd rather die first!"
"That can be arranged," replied Taki, smiling dreamily at the thought. Yuugi ignored these comments and continued to speak using his telepathic powers towards the possessed brunette. *"Kaiba, I am no threat to you. Please, let me in. I can help you."*
Kaiba smirked at this. "Help me? You can't do anything. There's nothing you can 'save' me from, for there is nothing wrong. In fact, I feel free."
"Hurry up, Yuugi!" Taki's angered shout distracted him; he began to hesitate. He shouted back, "I'm working on it!"
Taki's bitter laugh began to echo in his ears. "Obviously, not fast enough!"
"I'm hardly seeing you do any better!"
Kaiba watched as the two bickered, not bothering to come between. He was quite content where he was; he saw no benefit for him in breaking up their argument. His orders from Yami were simple: prolong his so-called Judgment Day.
Distracted by the bickering, he hardly had time to realize that it was a ruse when he felt another presence penetrate through his mental defenses. How had they deceived him so easily?!
*"Kaiba,"* began the voice in his head. *"Just let me in. I won't hurt you."* Kaiba felt warm, allowing himself to relax against his better judgment. He had a job to do! He couldn't let them control him!
But he eventually gave in, allowing Yuugi to work his magic and break the spell that Yami had placed upon him. Yuugi's violet eyes began to glow; his white feathered wings carried him over towards Kaiba, and he placed his right hand over Kaiba's eyes, blinding him temporarily.
Yuugi, having successfully opened Kaiba's mind to him, he began searching his memories in hopes of finding anything related to his husband.
He lived the moments Kaiba had when they had an encounter on the roof of the Kaiba Corp. building, watching as Yami had managed to bring Kaiba Seto under his control, using him as some form of a shield.
The young male glanced up, hoping to see him, but was met with emptiness. He dashed off to the rooftop where he knew Yami awaited him. Once Yuugi reached the top, his violet eyes were met with bemused crimson. Yami was enjoying the challenge like he always had. But when inner demons are involved, it wasn't a game. This was no laughing matter and shouldn't be taken lightly.
"Yami?" he called to him. "Is that you?"
"Hello again, my dear husband," he chuckled back. "I hope Kaiba didn't hurt you in any way?"
"He hadn't, Loki," he answered, a smirk rising on his features. "I was just delayed. He wanted to say a few words to me before I came up to meet you, that's all."
Yami took that as a joke and laughed. "Well, know that if you want me to come quietly, my answer is 'not a chance.' I'm not heading back there. Not now, not ever again." Those crimson eyes started to turn gold yet again. "Shall we play, my dear?"

Yami choked out his words, desperately fighting the demon inside his head. "Amiti- No, Yuugi." His husband looked up at him with teary crimson eyes. "Please... help me."
