Chapter 15 - The Truth Will Set You Free...

Bakura and Yami walked back to the prison, noticing that the guards were shocked that a thief kept his word.

"I told you I would come back, hadn't I?" the thief smirked. Yami felt a little nervous returning here. What was the point in coming back here?!

"Well, I must, this is a sight I don't think I have ever seen in my life," said the man in charge of the prison. "Don't get used to it," Bakura warned.

The man laughed, "I wouldn't even dream of it." He looks Yami over. "So, what's up with this kid breaking into here trying to bust you out?"

Yami refused to meet the man's gaze, more out of nervousness than defiance. Bakura sighed, "I have no idea why."

"Well, an attempted breakout gone wrong," the dean chuckled. "Perhaps I could have you arrested for that."

Yami suddenly slapped him for his arrogance. "Not until-" He suddenly stops, realizing that no one really knew about his past.

Tsubaru walks up to the former pharaoh. "Not until you find the one who killed your parents, right?" Yami numbly nodded his head, still feeling a little shaken about the encounter with Dartz.

"We have someone who could track anyone down regardless of their position."

"Kitamori? I'm not entirely sure it's that dire, Tsubaru." At the sound of that name, Yami asked, "Reiko's here?!"

The dean looked at him suspiciously, "You know her?"

"Of course I know her. We were close friends throughout junior and senior high."

"Well then, this should be a good thing, then."

Upon entering Reiko's workplace, the brunette didn't even turn her head while greeting him, "Is there something you want, sir?"

"Reiko?"

Hearing Yami's shy voice surprised and alarmed her at once. Turning, she asks, "Yami? What are you doing here?!"

"Miss Kitamori," the man started, "It would seem that Yami Kuro is looking for someone. Could you assist him? We need to speak with the thief over there." Bakura growled a little at that, but wisely kept his mouth shut.

"Of course, sir!" she answered. Yami walked over to her side as Bakura was dragged off out of their sight.

Bakura's POV

This is bullshit! What would they want to talk to me about?! Something about Yami's attitude is worrying me.

Ever since our date turned into a disaster, Yami's been awfully secretive. Sometimes he leaves so late at night and sneaks back in by dawn. If something is bothering him, why won't he tell me what it is?!

"So, Bakura,"

Oh, here we go.

"I want to make you a deal."

Wait…What?!

Those words immediately bring whatever thoughts I had to a grinding halt. The guy in charge of a fucking prison wants to make me a deal?! What the bloody Hell has the world come to?!

"A deal?" I say, not believing him for a second. He must have picked up on my sarcasm because he responds with, "Yes, a deal, one that includes yours, your boyfriend's, and your accomplice's freedom."

Tempting as all this sounds, there has to be some sort of catch to all of this. It just can't be that easy! "What kind of deal?" I ask, curious as to why they would need my help to begin with.

"This Kuro kid, he knows something. And if what I heard from Tsubaru is correct, he might know the man we've been looking for since the criminal's first murder thirteen years ago."

"What makes you so certain I can help you with any of this? He doesn't talk to me about his past." These people are absolutely ridiculous.

"Listen, you just help us out with this case and I'll let all three of you go. It's that simple."

I sat there listening, thinking about it. All three of us would be free of charges if I just give them my cooperation? This sounds like a trap. "That's all there is? There's no catch?"

He smirked at me, "No catches and no tricks. I guarantee it." Huh. Well, when it's a promised thing, I guess it wouldn't be bad to see how things are like from this side of a manhunt!

It might make things a little easier to know how the system works so I don't get caught again during my thefts!

"Alright, I'll help out if it means mine and my boyfriend's guaranteed freedom."

"Excellent," he says, seeming relieved. I wonder if they're so understaffed at the moment. Now, let's go check on my pharaoh!

Normal POV

Once they walk back into the room, Reiko said, "It's the same man you're looking for, sir. But unfortunately, since we don't have an accurate description of him at the moment, finding him will be very difficult."

"Is there anything we do have, Reiko?" he demands.

"Actually, yes, we do have something." She looks at Yami, uncertain if she should continue. "Someone's out to kill Yami." Reiko said, shaking her head. "Not because of what he knows."

Bakura asked, "Why then?!" She looked at them, sadness clouding her brown eyes. "Because he's the only one left."

"The only one left?" Tsubaru repeated.

"Of the Kuro family, he is quite literally the only one left."

Reiko's sentence was shocking to all of them, especially Bakura. How and when did this happen?!

Yami approached him, but almost missed his voice as he said, "I'll tell you about it later."

Bakura subtly nodded to him, allowing him to stand at his side. "Is there anything else you require our presence for, Nikado?"

*That's his name?* Yami noted in his head as he said, "No, you're free to return home."

"Alright then," Bakura smirked, "We'll leave you to your work then." He took his lover by the arm and led him out of the dreadful place. They had work to do, after all.
