Kikyko Falls Deathly Ill
Chapter18
"HAPPY BIRTHDAY KIKYKO," everyone in my house said. I smiled as she looked at her red cake.
"Woah," she said looking at the flaring candle. She took in a deep breath and blew her candle out. We all laughed and clapped for her. She giggled and tapped her hands together. Father hugged her and gave her a kiss on the cheek, so did mother.
"THIS IS THE BEST CAKE EVER," she shouted as she took a large bit of the cake. Haku and Kira looked at her and laughed.
"Hahaha, Kiki your mouth is all red," Haku said to her.
"I love this cake," Kikyko said again. Kira sighed and handed her a napkin. We sat outside at our new round table eating cake with Kikyko while all the grown ups where passing around some drinks.
"Ew," I said looking at her childlike behaviour. I side off the stool and went over to mother and father.
"Are we going to the village soon?" I asked excited, we had planned some colourful fireworks for Kiki's birthday, we had to wait until the sun went down, but I was really excited. I've never seen fireworks. Mother said they have them all the time in Tokyo where she is from. A man from a big village had traveled to our village he was a merchant and set up fireworks tonight.
Mom bent down to me,"soon my boy," she said rubbing my head.
"Want to open your presents?" Haku asked Kikyko.. I looked over to them and ran in to the house to grab mine.
"YAY!" she said excited.
The entire day went by so fast I hadn't even paid any attention to the sky turning black. Kikyko had opened all her gifts and there were paper and bags all over our back yard and our wooden table. I looked to mom and dad as they disappeared in to our house with everyone else.
"INUKO," Kikyko shouted at me.
"Ah, what?" I said startled.
"Thank you for the Kimono its my favorite," she said smiling.
I smiled at her as she turned to Haku and Kira. They were brushing her hair and dressing her in her new kimono. I didn't look at them and crawled towards the door. I tried to listen in.
"The fireworks are all set, we should head out soon so we can catch them, the whole village will be out to watch them," Miroku said to everyone.
"I'll gather the girls," Sango said shifting to her feet she picked Koji up off the floor and came towards us. I crawled away from the door towards the girls. I looked over at Kikyko as she tapped her hands over her kimono.
"Woah,"I said and blushed. She actually looked like a grown girl. The kimono suit her, and Haku and Kira had put her hair up in to a style with flowers in it. She smiled at me.
"Girls, come on we have to go," Sango said to her daughters.
"Awe, are you leaving?" Kikyko said turning to them.
"We all are," Sango bent down to her and patted her head.
"You look very nice Kikyko," she said to her. Kiki smiled and followed the girls inside.
I sighed deeply and followed them inside.
"Where are we going?" Kiki asked as she tapped her kimono. She took my hand as I followed Haku and Kira.
"Its a surprise," I said to her. She smiled.
I heard father sigh behind us, I titled my head and twitched my ears.
"She looks so lovely in that kimono," mother said grabbing on to father's arm.
"She's growing up way to fast," father said again and sighed.
"InuYasha, she's not a little girl anymore," mother said to him.
"I know," father said again. He held mothers hand and sighed again.
"Hi Inuko," Hitoshi ran to me. He was with his mother and father and even Kenta and Reno where there as well with their parents. I waved at them.
"Hi guys," I said to them.
"Go ahead Inuko, just don't go to far," mother said to me. I looked at her and half turned.
"Okay," I said and ran to the guys.
"Awe," Kiki said watching me.
Father picked her up and threw her over his shoulders.
"We are going to do something fun," he said to giggled as they gathered near Sango and Miroku.
Rin had helped Kaede as she sat down with us on the grass.
"What are we doing here papa?" she said looking to everyone in the village who gathered.
"You'll see," mother said to her.
Mother sat down next to Sango and Kaede.
"WOAH," I said as the sky exploded. Everyone in the village cheered and clapped, lots of people where laughing and excitement filled the air.
"WOW," Kikyko shouted lifting her hands to the sky.
"These are so colourful," Sango said as the girls intently watched the designs.
"Woah," I said again as more colors crackled and filled the sky.
"These are so cool," Hitoshi said also excited.
"I know, my dad and my uncle Miroku found a man who made these," I said to him.
"SO COOL!" the guys said around me.
"PAPA PAPA LOOK LOOK AT THE COLOURS," Kikyko shouted and giggled as the sky crackled again.
Dad smiled and pulled her off his shoulders. He put her to the grass. She ran to Haku and Kira as they jumped around excited.
"Thank you!" mother said to father.
"Oh?" he replied to her.
"The fireworks, you and Miroku did a great job," she said again.
"Hm," dad said and smiled watching as we ran around in excitement.
"YAY!" Kikyko shouted again.
"Yay, yay..." Haku and Kira shouted. Everyone laughed enjoying the night.
"Wow what a night!" father said carrying Kikyko in his arms. She had fallen asleep because we stayed out so late. I don't blame her, I was sleepy as well.
"Woah there little boy," mother said to me holding my hand. I nearly tripped forward cause I was dozing off.
"I'm tired," I said to her rubbing my eyes.
"I know," mother said as we came through the house. I yawned and stretched my arms. I helped mother set up the sheets.
"No you can't eat my cake..." I heard Kikyko mumble in dad's arms.
"Hahaha, in her sleep she even thinks about food," father said tapping her back he put her down on the sheets and she rolled over smothering her bear. I was glad it was that and not me.
"Lady Kagome?" I heard Rin's voice outside.
"Rin come in," mother said to her as she adjusted the blankets.
"Lord Sesshomaru had dropped by just now, he gave me this," she said coming through the door. She looked at Kikyko and giggled.
"Thank you Rin!" mother said taking it from her.
"He brought Kikyko a kimono," father said looking at the package.
"Yes, he did and I got one too, I will be staying with Kaede tonight at the shrine, good night..." Rin said smiling she nodded to mother and turned to the back door.
Kaede had rebuilt the shrine with the villagers and turned it into the villages temple, many villagers go there to prey, and Kaede lives with Rin there. Its really big and huge, father said that we will live there one day, I think he means when mother becomes the high priestess of the village.
"I think its cute InuYasha, your brother coming around like this... it just shows how alike you two are," mother said admiring the kimono. I lifted my eyes to them trying to stay awake.
"What do you mean alike..." was all I heard before I fell to the sheets.
"Huuuuuh," I heard Kikyko say in her sleep. She kept rolling around and coughing all night. I opened on eye to her and looked at her. Mother and father must have not even notice, I lifted my head and looked to them. They were asleep next to us.
"Kiki," I whispered to her. She coughed and rolled over hugging her bear.
I touched my hand to her forehead.
"She's so hot," I said.
"Mom, mom," I turned around and shook her.
"What is it Inuko?" mother mumbled rolling over. Father opened his eyes and looked at me.
"Kikyko... she's hot... I don't think she's well," I said to her panicked.
"Kiki?" mother said shaking her to wake her up.
"She has a fever Kagome," father said placing a cloth over her forehead.
"I'll go get Kaede," I said to them nervous. I stumbled to my feet and ran out the back door.
"Her fever is dangerous high Kagome," Kaede said to us.
"What can we do?" mothers voice sounded panicked.
"Kagome take her to the bath house and in cold water hurry, I will make an antidote to help bring down her fever," Kaede said turning to the pot. Rin helped her gather what she needed.
Mother picked up Kikyko and held her to her body.
I followed behind her and father.
"Is she okay?" I asked panicked.
"Here pass her to me," father said taking Kikyko from mother. He pulled her to the cold water.
"Mom is she going to be okay?" I asked scared. I would see her try to breath, she wouldn't wake up, she kept crying and I felt so helpless.
"Inuko, your sister is very sick. I need you to be strong for her, she'll be okay... please go back inside, stay with Kaede," she said to me and tapped my head.
I sighed and jumped down from the side of the basin.
"She's still feverish," father said pressing his face against hers. I sighed and leaned against the door looking in.
Mother jumped into the bath as well and wrapped her arms around Kikyko.
"Her fever won't break," she said worried. I felt like I was going to cry. I sighed and shuffled my feet to the house.
"InuYasha..."
"What Kagome," father said holding Kikyko close to him. Mother splashed water over her face and body.
"She's not breathing properly, I'm worried," mother said again.
"She'll get through this," father said again. Kikyko coughed and tried to swallow.
Mother took Kikyko from father and pulled her to her chest.
"InuYasha..." she said again.
He leaned against her hugging them.
I've never seen mother and father so scared and so worried for Kikyko. Morning had come and Kikyko still didn't wake, her fever was even worse. Kaede had gone to Jinenji's with Kohaku and Rin early this morning before sunrise to try a different type of treatment for Kikyko.
She would cough and her voice sounded as if it was slowly disappearing.
"She still hasn't woken," mother said to Sango.
"She can't go on like this, the fever could..." Sango looked to mother and didn't say anything more.
"I know, we don't know what else to try," mother said to her. I looked at Kikyko and wiped my eyes. I was so scared, what if she got so sick and never wakes up.
"Kagome, you need to take her to your world, your time... your treatments from there could save her life," Sango said to mother as she replaced the cloth over Kikyko's forehead. I turned my eyes to them.
"I was thinking about that all night, I don't even know if the well will let me go back through, and... if we did... what if I can't return," mother said again as she wiped Kikyko's arms with a cold cloth.
"Kagome... you have to try, what else is there left to try," Sango said turning to mother.
"InuYasha won't... he won't like it," mother said again. She held her hand over her face. I could tell she was crying, Sango tried to console her. I took in a deep breath and leaned over sister pecking her cheek. I had to find dad and Miroku, they had gone out this morning as well in search of the village doctor. He was a man who had travelled through villages treating children and people. Dad said he wasn't going to come home until he found him and brought him here.
I slipped out past Haku and Kira who were asleep near the back door. I turned awkwardly looked at the door then ran.
"I have to find dad," I said to myself sniffing the air. I ran past a few merchants who where saying good morning, I ignored them and slide against the ground. I saw Miroku talking to a man near a hut.
"Dad, Miroku," I said running towards them.
"Inuko, what are you doing out here..." father said grabbing my arm.
"I had to come get you, sis is getting worse..." I said catching my breath.
"Young boy, do not worry I will come to your sisters aid." a young man said. I looked at him as he gathered a bag full of material.
"Hurry, hurry," I said watching as the man slung the bag over his shoulder.
"Let's go!" the man said. We ran back towards out home when we heard Kikyko crying.
"What happened..." I said panicked as I came through the door. Miroku grabbed me as dad and the doctor went to her side.
"Let me go let go," I said struggling.
"Calm down Inuko, no need to panic, you must remain calm around her and not let her see you are worried, she will come through this," Miroku said touching my head.
I sighed and took in a deep breath.
"She is dangerously ill, poor child... I have attempted all I can for her, her throat is inflamed, and she is not breathing well," the doctor said probing Kikyko's neck.
"Is there anything we can do," father said worried.
The doctor sighed deeply, and shook his head.
"She will need to fight through it, I can not do anything on her fragile body, she is too young to sustain any other treatment, her body will sure fail if I attempt any more treatments..." the man said. I looked at him and at everyone else. Everyone was worried, scared. Mother was still upset her face was wet from tears. I sighed and sat next to her.
"Fight through it... she's a child, she can't fight through something like this," mother said agitated. Sango wrapped her arm around mother and hugged her.
"I am sorry InuYasha, Kagome... please forgive me, I have tried all I could. I will need to venture to the mountains, three day journey there is a planet I must obtain," the doctor said looking to us.
"However, I am not sure if I will make it back in time," he said again.
"Don't say that," mother said she picked up Kikyko and held her to her body.
"How far? I'll take you there, it'll be faster with me," father was about to finish his words when mother looked at him.
"No... don't go," she said to him.
Miroku stood up with the doctor walking him to the door, he was discussing the mountain trip with him, the man said he would go alone and return with what he needed as fast as possible.
"InuYasha," mother said rubbing Kikyko's face.
Sango stood up and followed Miroku outside, I sighed and did the same. I knew mother wants to take sister to her time, back through the well. I didn't want her too, but if it meant saving Kikyko I didn't care.
"Kagome what is it?" I heard father say. I leaned against the door listening.
"I have to take her..." mother said through her tears.
"I knew you were thinking that... Kagome, what if you can't return, both of you..." he touched mother's face drying her eyes.
"I have to try InuYasha, the doctor of this time can't save her... he can't help her," mother said again.
"Kagome, I know its the only option..." father said again.
"Please let me take her, please..." mother looked at him and cried.
