The Women from the Mystic Mountain: Kikyko's Secret Power
Part 2: Chapter 22
"I hate the sun," Kikyko said pulling the sheets over her head. It's been a week since Kikyko was sick, and her voice had fully returned, and boy was she annoying as ever. Especially today, the day hadn't already started, and she spent the entire night kicking me, pulling the sheets off me, and smothering me. That's what I get for sleeping next to the brat.
"You hate everything," I teased her and yawned stretching my arms. I pulled the sheets off her.
"Hey," she shouted at me. She sat up and yanked the sheets from my hands and pulled them over herself.
"Ha ha," I laughed and yanked back.
She rolled over and pressed her head in to the pillow.
"WHY IS THE SUN UP," she mumbled.
"It's morning stupid that's why," I teased her again.
"Inuko," she mumbled into the pillow. I looked down at her and threw the blankets over her burying her under a mountain of sheets.
"Your stupid," she mumbled again. I chuckled and tapped my hands together shifting to my feet.
I yawned and stretched my arms as I went out the back door. Mom and dad were standing near the clothe lines hanging some sheets.
"Hey you, good morning," dad said to me as I went over to the water well and dipped my hands into the water.
"Morning," I mumbled washing my face.
"Bring your sheets outside Inuko," mother said to me as she stretched a sheet over the line.
"Can't…" I said washing my face again.
"Uh can't?" dad said again. His tone sounded agitated. He narrowed his eyes at me.
"If I move the mountain of sheets the demon could kill me," I said as I rubbed my hands along my pants.
"I don't want to die today," I said again running my hands through my hair.
Dad shook his head and chuckled, he came around mom and in to the house.
After a few moments I heard Kikyko's voice, "awweee daddy," she chimed from the house. I chuckled and shook my head.
Kikyko huffed as she followed dad outside.
She looked at me and passed me to the water well, I smiled and followed behind her. I snuck up behind her in attempts to splash her with the water.
"Inuko," she mumbled noticing me behind her. I froze in my spot and snickered.
"YOU'RE A STUPID HALF DEMON," she mumbled rubbing her face with water, she turned and splashed me with the water.
"Ah, hey…" I shouted at her as she cupped her hands into the water and held it to the air. I knew what she was attempting, I wasn't going to let her win this time.
"Ha ha, nope," I said jumping away from her.
"COME BACK STUPID BROTHER," she shouted at me as she chased me with the water dripping from her cupped hands.
"Nope you can't catch me," I teased her.
"INUYASHA, KAGOME…" Rin's panicked voice echoed through our house as she ran towards us to the back yard.
"Rin calm down, what's wrong?" mother said to her as Rin tried to catch her breath.
"Please come quick, its lady Kaede, she was struck by a poison arrow," Rin said panicked.
"Inuko, take your sister and go to Sango's," mother shouted at me as she took Rin in to the house. Mother came out with father in a hurry, she held medicinal herbs in her large basket.
"NOW GO TO SANGO'S," father shouted at us.
"Oof," Kikyko said as she slammed in to me, we looked at each other than to mom and dad as they ran towards the temple.
"Kaede is sick?" Kikyko asked worried.
"I don't know sis…" I said to her taking her hand.
"AUNT SANGO…. MIROKU," I shouted pulling Kikyko by the hand as we approached their home.
"Inuko, Inuko… what is it?" Miroku said coming to the door. I stopped near their door and panted. Kikyko took in a deep breath and let go of my hand.
"Inuko, what's wrong?" Sango said bending down to us.
"Its lady Kaede… she was poisoned by an arrow, mom sent us here and she went with dad and Rin to help her," I said quickly rambling. Sango touched a hand to my hair.
Sango stood up and put Yuki in Miroku's arms, she shuffled around her home looking for medicinal herbs.
"I'll go help as well, these remedies from my village could help, both of you stay here…" she said to us as she turned to the door.
Kikyko's eyes diverted to the door then back to the twins as they played with their baby brothers.
"What's wrong Kikyko?" Miroku asked rubbing her head getting her attention.
"Huh?" she beamed looked at him.
"Are you okay?" he asked her again. Kikyko looked to the door again.
"I can help Kaede," she said in a sweet small voice. I turned my head to her then to Hakura and Kira as they rolled a ball along the floor.
"How can you help Kaede?" Miroku asked her curious.
"I just can…" she said and smiled. The ball rolled over to her and she smiled picking it up.
It was quiet some time before Aunt Sango had returned, I hadn't notice her enter her home, we were huddled in a corner coloring on some papers when we heard her shuffle near the door.
"Momma?" I heard Hakura say, I followed her gaze to the door.
"Sango? What happened?" Miroku asked her, he stood up and came to his wife's side.
Sango leaned against the wall and shook her head.
"The poison… it was that of a sea serpent, we had nothing to treat it. The arrow was coated, and someone had shot it from the woods…. Kaede saw no one. Her injury is grave…" she said again taking in a deep breath. Miroku took her basket from her and put it down.
"It's okay Sango, Kaede is strong, she'll get through this…" he said to her consoling her.
I turned my head to Kikyko, and the twins. I squinted my eyes looking at them.
"Uh… Kiki?" I said looking around for her. Where did she get off too?
"Hmm hmm hmmm," Kikyko hummed as she skipped up the stairs of the temple.
"Riiinnnn?" she said, her voice echoed behind the paper sliding doors.
"Kikyko?" Rin said sliding the door opened. Kikyko smiled and waved at her.
"Why are you here, do your parents know your out here?" she said looking around for mom and dad.
Kikyko beamed again and came around Rin.
"Neh child, why have you come… run along, your father will worry," Kaede muttered. She was weak, and resting, her shoulder was wrapped, and blood was seeping through the bandages.
"I can help Kaede," Kikyko said sitting down next to her. Kaede looked at her surprised and confused.
"How can you help Kikyko?" Kaede said concerned. She cringed and held her hand over her wound.
Mom and dad had left the temple in a panic in attempts to find the village doctor to try to help Kaede.
"I'm going to get lady Kagome," Rin said nervously running out the door. Mom and dad where half way to the village, when Rin went out in search for them.
Kikyko smiled and giggled she held her hands to the air over Kaede's wound.
"What… what are you doing child?" Kaede's eyes widened with surprise. Kikyko hovered her hands and cupped them over Kaede's wound, and a white light emitted from her hands.
"Kikyko what are you doing?" Father's voice bellowed at the door.
But before they could grab her, a huge beam of white light left Kikyko's body and passed to Kaede healing her wound.
"Oooh," Kikyko muttered and passed out falling near Kaede.
"KIKI," mother shouted picking her up.
"What… did she just do?" Kaede said surprised. She sat up and rolled her arm, the wound had fully healed, and the poison had left her body.
"Kikyko… can heal people?" Miroku said surprised he looked at Kikyko as she slept in mom's arms.
"There's no way spiritual powers can do this… healing poison and wounds isn't something even I can do," mother said touching Kikyko's face.
"How is this even possible? Kagome has spiritual powers because of the Shikon Jewel, when it was destroyed her powered were weakened but not as powerful, yet they passed to Kikyko?" Sango said as well looking at Kikyko as she shifted in mother's arms.
I hovered near the sliding doors with Hakura, Kira, Koji and their baby brother. I was worried, I never saw Kikyko ever do anything like this before, except when she defeated that lord.
Father's ears twitched, and he turned his head towards us.
"Let's not talk about this around the kids… they're outside," father said looking at us. He crossed his arms and looked to the door again. We took a few steps back away from the door and ran down the temple stairs.
"Uh oh, Inuko you dad saw us…" Hakura said as she took her sisters hand and ran after me.
"InuYasha, Kagome… one of you should ask Kikyko about this, maybe she is unaware of her own power… maybe she doesn't understand it," Miroku said looking to Kaede as she rolled her shoulder again.
"Kagome… let's discuss this later," Sango said noticing Kikyko shift in mothers' arms.
She opened her eyes and looked up at mother.
"Momma?" she said to her and smiled.
That afternoon dad and mom didn't bring up anything about Kikyko's power. I didn't even ask, I spent the afternoon helping mom make lunch and cleaning. I didn't mind it, Kikyko was outside with dad the whole time attempting to fold the sheets, badly if I might add.
"Mom?" I asked as I watched her throw carrots into the boiling pot.
"Yes?" she asked and turned to her herb stash looking for some herbs.
"Are you and dad mad at Kikyko?" I asked watching her as she lifted a few wicket baskets and started talking to herself.
She turned to me then kneeled to the pot throwing some herbs in to it.
"Don't be ridiculous why would we be..." she said again stirring the stew.
"Awww, but I don't wanna…" I heard Kikyko's voice come through the back door following father.
"… I don't wanna go shopping with momma later…" she huffed again. Mother looked at her then to the stew as father put the folded sheets down in the basket.
"Okay, we'll I'll take Inuko..." she said sipping the stew, she turned her eyes to me and smiled.
"What why me? Why don't you go with dad?" I said lifting my eyes to her.
"Your strong that's why… so don't argue with me," she said again. I had a feeling they wanted to separate me and Kikyko so maybe dad would talk to her. Or mother wanted to embarrass me in the village if my friends were out, that's also another reason, I can hear Hitoshi and Reno now, 'wow Inuko's a sissy boy, he's helping his mother with shopping,' I sighed and sulked.
"Fine," I sighed again.
"Papa," Kikyko mumbled holding her bowl to her mouth. I looked at her as she shoved rice in to her mouth. I sighed and shook my head. How did I end up with this, a human sister… I would've accepted a half demon sister, instead I got this… I sighed again deeply.
"Don't talk with your mouth full," father said to her eyeing her down. She swallowed quickly and looked at him.
"Papa," she said again.
"Yes?" he said putting his bowl down.
"We should do something fun today," she chimed putting her bowl down.
"That's a great idea, I'll take Inuko and you InuYasha can spend the whole day with Kikyko," mother said tapping her hands together, she picked up the empty bowls.
"What the whole day, I don't want to spend the whole day shopping…" I complained jumping to my feet. I followed mother outside arguing over shopping.
"Hehehhehe," Kikyko giggled and laughed.
"No buts Inuko, it's not the end of the world, your coming with me…. End of discussion," mother's voice echoed. I sighed deeply and grunted under my breath, I tilted my head to the door.
"Yeah laugh you little monster, you just wait… DON'T SLEEP TONIGHT," I shouted and hissed loudly as I heard Kikyko laugh again.
She heard my voice and laughed even louder.
"Have fun you two," father said to us outside. I crossed my arms and looked at mom while she held the basket in her arms.
"We'll have a fun day, right Inuko?" she said patting my head. I sighed deeply and huffed.
"Hehehe," Kikyko giggled at my mood, she held her hands to her face. I scowled at her and grunted. I lifted my eyes to mom and dad, I was about to open my mouth and complain again when dad pulled mom to him.
"EWWW…." I said as dad leaned in and kissed her.
"WHY DO YOU GUYS DO THAT…." I hissed covering my eyes.
"Hahhaa, come on my boy," mother laughed at me and patted my head, she walked away from us.
"Sick!" I said and dragged my feet behind her.
"Hahahhaha, papa let's play," I heard Kikyko's voice bellow. She laughed and jumped up and down, father picked her up and threw her to the air.
"How can this be…. this is InuYasha that I seek?" the strange women said peering from the tree near our house.
"He…. The powerful Lord InuYasha his name spoken of throughout the lands, married to a human woman? With a human child and a half demon boy… one of which I feel is very powerful…" she said again looking at Kikyko as father threw her to the air again and then pulled her to his face nuzzling her.
"I must find out about that human child, she must be the one with the spiritual powers that my lord is seeking. All the human girls of this village do not give me this feeling, the feeling of immense power," she said again as she walked around the tree and peered into our house as father and Kikyko disappeared inside.
"Huh?" father's ears twitched, and he turned his eyes to the door.
"Hmmm hmm hmm," Kikyko hummed to herself sprawled on the floor. Father turned his gaze to her and laid down next to her. She was coloring on some papers scattered all over the floor.
"Kikyko?" father said to her, he watched her as she switched crayons and colored again.
"Yes papa…" she said humming again.
"How did you help Kaede, will you tell me?" he asked her and rubbed her head.
"Midoriko," she said again and hummed.
"Midoriko? Kikyko's she's a demon slayer…" father said again.
"I know papa… she told me I had to help Kaede…" Kikyko said again and switched crayons.
"She told you too?" father said trying to make sense of her words.
"Mm hmm, she's a good demon slayer, she said I can help people like momma," Kikyko said again. Father rubbed her back and watched her as she colored. He was trying to make sense of her words. She smiled at him and held up her paper.
"Good demon… huh!" father thought out loud to himself. He looked at Kikyko curiously wondering if she really knew who Midoriko was or if she overheard mom and dad's conversation of her.
"I made flowers," she beamed holding her paper.
Father looked at her and smiled taking the paper from her.
"They're lovely Kikyko, why don't we hang them on the wall and go for a run…" he said to her. She giggled watching father pin the picture to the wall.
"Yay!" she shouted as dad extended his hand to her.
"This sucks I hate this," I complained looking at all the people out in the village.
"Inuko stop complaining this isn't a big deal. I need to get a few things done before the school opens next week. Ooh I still have so much to do," mother said again and started talking to herself. She's been working so hard not just with the priestess training academy, but with the new school that's being built. Apparently, mom was telling me the school is going to be in an old temple that the villagers are rebuilding.
"I don't want to go to school," I protested again.
"Well both of you are going…" mother said again as she picked some vegetables from a merchant table. I sighed again and didn't argue.
"Hi Inuko…" Hakura's voice chimed from behind me.
"Ah," I jumped and dropped the basket.
"Haku… uh hi," I said and blushed. She looked at me and touched her hair. I bent down to pick up the fruit.
"Sango hi," mother said to her as she adjusted Yuki in the baby sling around her body, Koji and Kira held hands and were laughing at me and Hakura.
"Hello Kagome, Inuko," Sango said looking at us.
Hakura bent down and helped me pick up the fruit. I reached for a carrot at the same time she did, and our hands touched.
"Uh, sorry…" I said and moved my hand quickly. I looked at mother and Santo they were in conversation over the cloth a merchant table. I swallowed the lump in my throat and slung the basket over my back.
"You look really uhhh cute today Inuko..." she said and blushed. She rolled her eyes to the sky and touched her hair again. I lifted my eyebrow in confusion, I look the same every day.
"Uh… I look the same every day," I said to her confused. She smiled and looked at me again.
"Huh!" Sango said noticing Hakura's rosy cheeks.
"Something wrong Sango?" mother asked. I looked up at mother and Sango then diverted my gaze to Hakura, her cheeks were rosy, and she was patting down her kimono. I looked away and blushed.
Okay Inuko, say something nice about her. Maybe… tell her her hair looks nice, no… that won't do, tell her she smells nice. No, why would I even say that…. She'll think I think she doesn't smell nice everyday… but she does. I sighed deeply and diverted my eyes to the ground.
"Uhh… I like your kimono," I finally mustered up the courage to say this to her. Hakura smiled at me and took in a deep breath, then looked to the ground. For some reason I couldn't make eye contact with her.
"So that's why she did that…" Sango said smiling again. Mother followed her gaze to Hakura.
"Did what?" she said confused.
"She wanted to wear her new kimono and dressed up today to make Inuko notice her," Sango replied to mother.
"THAT'S SO CUTE…" mother laughed and tapped her face looking at us.
Hakura looked up to her mother then to me.
"Uh thanks Inuko, it's a new kimono," she said and blushed again. I looked at her and sighed deeply. Why does she smell so nice!
