He didn´t want her to see him broken because he was-and had always been-afraid of losing those he loved. Surely she wouldn´t want to be with him, when she saw that he was damaged.
But he trusted her one time, a second time and then a whole new side of their relationship began to show. Ginny could understand him so completely, more than Ron or Hermione ever could, because she knew what Tom Riddle could do.
