Annabelle wiped her forehead.
The hat might've been helping some, but it didn't alienate the heat. It still went through their lightly colored clothes. She was sweating like a pig with no mud in sight. They glanced at Apetrully. He didn't seem to be as affected by the heat, but then again she couldn't see how he was underneath. He had to be sweating as badly as she was, they couldn't be the only one.
He looked up at her. His helmet's eyes were only slightly transparent, so they couldn't see through them entirely, but she thought she saw some sweat underneath.
Maybe they should've laid off on traveling to a different animal kingdom today and leave it for tomorrow or a different day.
"Are you faring okay, Annabelle?" He asked. "If we need to stop for a moment or go back, that's alright."
"No, no I'll be fine." She smiled in reassurance. "I'm not a fan of heat like this, but I'm sure I'll live. If I pass out though, take me straight back. I'm not dying from heat stroke, I refuse to go out like that."
Annabelle lightheartedly laughed at their own statement. Apetrully didn't laugh along with them though. He grabbed her arm and handed her some water.
"Well, we certainly can't let that happen!" Apetrully smiled.
She smiled back sweetly and took it from him. She took sips of it, as much as drinking all of it sounded good at that moment. They handed it back to him.
"I suppose this is why you're en kung." Annabelle snickered.
Apetrully looked away bashfully. He scratches his helmet with his finger.
"I'm glad nobody can understand that…" He quietly said.
Annabelle chuckled. "That's the point, no one knows what that word means but us. Though please take care of yourself too, you're a lot more important."
He waved his hand. "Not- Not that much more important, really, but I will."
Apetrully lifted the front of his helmet slightly and took sips of water as well. Afterwards, he put the water away. Annabelle's smile faded away.
"Aren't you boiling under all of that, Apetrully? There's no way you're staying cooler than me."
"I do feel hot, but I can assure you that I'm fine." He replied.
Her expression didn't lighten. "Okay, but let me know if you are, or I'll take you back to base so fast you won't know what happened."
He started to chuckle. They smiled looking at him; he needed some laughter, even if it was small. Apetrully grabbed her hand and walked ahead. She looked up to see they were finally at their destination after what felt like hours beneath the sun.
Annabelle only hoped there wouldn't be much trouble, just something quick and easy.
Needless to say, First Squad had to be called.
