Chapter 5
"Agent Hill! I need a status update! Where are all of our Agents right now?!"
"I'm trying sir! The situation is very complicated right now!"
Fury swore, this really was the 'worst case scenario'. An Alien invasion smack in the center of Manhattan was among the top in terms of things that could have gone wrong. He could only hope that the Avengers currently on their way made it in time to stop whatever was coming through that portal. He kept his pager close to him though, just in case things got a bit too hot for them to handle.
Another Agent called out from his cubicle, having found a live feed of the current situation from a news helicopter.
"Sir! You need to see this!"
Sending it over to Fury's command post, he displayed the live television on his own screens. A news helicopter had its cameras pointed right at the Hudson river, showing what appeared to be an antiquated Battleship firing all of its Anti-Aircraft guns up into the sky, shooting down a number of the alien riders.
He only had one thing to say really. "What the fu-"
The situation had gone FUBAR, if the Howling Commandos were still around that is. Steve thought that FUBAR was a very apt description of what was currently happening. Loki had successfully opened a portal right in the middle of Manhattan, letting all manner of invaders go through with near impunity. Looking from the front cockpit, they were just approaching the skylines of Manhattan, and their destination? Stark tower, where they would hopefully put a stop to the portal and end the invasion.
Despite trying to call Bianka on the way to New York, warning her of any potential danger, her phone did not pick up. Steve's anxiety was stopped by Hawkeye's voice cutting through his thoughts.
"Nat, you seeing those explosions in front of us?"
Steve noticed it too, among the skylines of Manhattan plumes of black smoke appeared on its skies, and the entire area was dotted by them, appearing in dozens of areas all at once. He knew what they were, having spent time jumping out of planes for most of the war, he instinctively remembered what Anti-Aircraft shells looked like when they exploded in mid-air.
"Those are Anti-Aircraft rounds, but where-" Asked Steve, but he was cut off by Agent Romanov pointing out where those rounds seemingly came from.
"On the Hudson Cap, what is that…?
Steve blinked. He rubbed his eyes and blinked again. Though he wasn't part of the Navy during the war, he had watched a lot of newsreel coverage before the super-soldier serum was even given to him. There was no mistaking it, those Anti-Aircraft rounds came from that Battleship in front of him on the Hudson. The Bismarck.
Hawkeye finally spoke, after looking at it for a while. "Is that a goddamn Battleship?! How the hell is it even operational? It's one of ours right?"
Steve couldn't answer his question, as he too didn't know if they was a friend or foe. The fact that they were blasting a large portion of the invading craft out of the air definitely helped with them leaning on the 'friend' side though.
The roar of Anti-Aircraft guns sang throughout the skies, and Bismarck could only continue watching the waves of alien attack craft attempt to take her out. So far, only her superstructure had taken any damage, and her secondaries were still firing at full capacity. Unfortunately, she had also realized that there were significant numbers of enemy rider craft that had been weaving between the skyscrapers. Unless she wanted to level all of Manhattan, enemy 'hover bikes' that were below the skyline could not be targeted, much to her frustration.
Not before long, however, she heard a radio contact attempting to hail her.
"Hey! Whoever is in that Battleship I sure could use some support right about now!"
Speaking back into it quickly, she identified herself. "This is Bismarck, the Battleship on the Hudson. I am available for target acquisition."
"Kay! Bringing a bunch to you right now, on your left!"
Looking to her port side, Bismarck saw Iron Man bringing a large number of enemy riders towards her location, swinging her Flak and secondary four-inch batteries towards them, she began firing once they were clear from any buildings.
BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM
Within a dozen seconds, all of the pursuing alien craft had been blown out of the sky, and flaming debris rained down on the river.
"Thanks! If you can head out to the East River there's a bunch more over there. Civilians are still evacuating on the ferries, I'll leave them to you!"
Bismarck watched as he blasted away again, off to go intercept more of the attackers. Seeing as how both sides of Manhattan had ferries evacuating civilians, she could not just neglect one side. Though unconventional, most Battleships carried reconnaissance aircraft, and she just so happened to have four of them. She definitely could not control them as well compared to a dedicated carrier like Graf Zeppelin, but they were modified with machine guns to defend themselves. Launching all four of her Arado Ar 196 planes, she put them on intercept orders, even though they weren't designed for that.
It wasn't much, but at least the evacuating ferries on Intrepid's side of the rivers would be defended by something. Bismarck took one last look at Intrepid, who gave her a thumbs up from her deck, the flames had died down slightly, so she was no longer in danger of sinking.
With her four floatplanes on interception duty above the skies of the Hudson, Bismarck shifted back into rigging form and headed towards the East River. A sleek black jet flew overhead, just as she was about to reach her destination, she took no heed of it, however, as more of the alien riders had spotted her form. Contrary to popular belief back in her original world, Kansen were more dangerous in rigging form, that was when their abilities could be used to their fullest extent.
Still, once she took out the alien craft attacking the ferries, she should be making her way towards Stark tower, where the portal was being opened from. The sooner it got shut down, then the quicker the battle would end.
Weaving through the skyscrapers of Manhattan, Tony hailed Bismarck again, trying to find her location. With a reply, he set about leading another group of chasing riders toward her. He wasn't sure what else to call the quite literal Battleship that seemingly appeared from nowhere, since he was sure that when he left for Germany some days ago that ship certainly was not there. As he approached the East River, bringing another dozen or so riders, he wasn't able to see where the Battleship was.
"Please break right, Iron Man."
Doing so on instinct, a few seconds after he did so the trail of alien craft behind him was reduced to smithereens again. Jarvis managed to find where the shot came from, and using his suit, the enhanced vision allowed him to see a woman standing in the middle of the river. She was wearing an all-black military uniform, but there appeared to be these 'arms' sticking out of her back. Upon closer inspection, miniature turrets that he saw on the Battleship were installed on those arms, was that woman…Bismarck?
"That portal is coming from your tower. Is there a plan to stop it?"
Well, he was working on one, but she didn't need to know that right?
"We do! In the meantime, since you're literally walking on water now, can you also walk on land and fight toward Stark Tower? There's a large number of aliens blocking-"
Before he could finish his sentence, Jarvis alerted him to a large-whale like creature appearing from the portal, he found it hard to believe it was real as it smashed through some buildings.
"Stark! You seeing this?!" Captain America's voice was heard over the comms channel.
He saw it alright, but the believing part was another work in progress."Seeing, but working on believing. I've made contact with our friendly Battleship, I'm sending her over to where you are!"
Blasting off again, he sent one last message to her on an open frequency. "Head towards the front of Stark tower! There's a team fighting their way through to shut down the portal, they could use someone like you!"
Not long after, he heard a reply. "Affirmative."
When this was over, he was definitely buying her more than one drink.
Bismarck stabbed her mast-turned-flag standard through two aliens. Clearing the rest of her street with secondary batteries mounted on her rigging, she pressed on, trying to find the 'front of Stark tower'. She asked civilians that she rescued for locations with each opportunity, New York is not an easy city to navigate, despite its blocky layout. Normally one would be in disbelief over fighting aliens, but she has already had to deal with the existence of sirens in her old world, so quite literal aliens weren't that much of a stretch for Bismarck.
After fighting through nearly a dozen streets, Bismarck finally made it to the building in front of Stark tower, where someone named 'Agent Romanov' had been guiding her to over the radio. Jumping up to the bridge above her, she landed directly in the middle of two people fighting off a large number of alien skirmishers.
She yelled out to them. "Get down!"
Though they were confused at first, the man with a bow quickly took cover behind a car, followed by the woman with two pistols. Readying her twenty-millimetre Flak guns, she saturated the bridge around her with an arc of fire, reducing all of them to chunks of foreign flesh.
"Look out!"
Three more aliens had jumped down right behind Bismarck, but before she could take them out, lightning from the sky struck down and incinerated them. A blonde man in odd-looking armour landed soon after, stumbling forwards. Bismarck saw that he had been stabbed, as he clutched a wound on his belly.
Another man soon landed next to the two fighters she came to the aid of, and Bismarck recognized him instantly. As he turned around, he looked at her and almost stepped back in shock, his shield instinctively raised slightly.
"Bianka?!" He cried out.
Bismarck now knew what Steve spent the last few days doing at least, and the two will have some explaining to do. After the alien invasion of course.
