Chapter 6
Discipline is my Iron, glory in my Blood.
The motto for all Ironblood that were memorized by each of its Kansen. Unlike other factions, they were numerically outnumbered by the other major powers, and thus they had to turn to other forms of advantages. They had the most amount of Siren influence in their technology, and Bismarck thought that was perhaps why they were able to influence them to that extent. The sins of the past were not applicable now, however, as the battle still raged above her.
Though Steve and Bismarck recognized each other, they both instantly agreed to leave it for later, there were much more pressing concerns over some secrets being kept right now. Interestingly enough, a man dressed in a simple shirt and pants on a motorcycle had calmly rode towards them, in a completely casual manner despite his surroundings being a warzone. Who was he?
"Doctor Banner?" Asked Steve.
As he dismounted his motorbike, he looked at Bismarck with some confusion, before turning back to the larger group. "So, this all seems…horrible. Don't think I've met you before though?"
His head was turned towards Bismarck as he asked that question. Was this man part of Steve's supposed group? "Bismarck. The Battleship that was on the Hudson."
Some eyes were raised, but no one decided to comment on that particular piece of information for now. Iron Man's voice came over the radio again, and Bismarck assumed it was another strafing run.
"Heads up! I'm bringing the party over to you!"
"I-I…don't see how that's a party…"
Right before her, Iron Man was being chased by the same armoured whale creature that came out of the portal before. It would not be an issue, Siren battleships appeared to be more armoured than that thing. Readying her main batteries, she loaded fifteen-inch AP rounds but was stopped by Steve's voice before she could open fire.
"Doctor Banner? Now would be a good time to get angry."
As the very same unimpressive man walked in front of the group, he turned back to Steve. "That's my secret Cap, I'm always angry."
Watching Doctor Banner turn into a giant green brute was not what Bismarck expected to come from the gentle-looking man, but his punch completely stopped the whale creature directly in its tracks. Just as its form was about to crush the group, however, she took her chance and fired a shot straight into an exposed part of its flesh, severing it into two.
Steve, having covered the redheaded Agent with his shield, peeked back out after the whale carcass landed on the street. He looked with wide eyes at Bismarck, seemingly unaffected by the entire act.
Forming into a circle, all of the defenders found that they were surrounded, and another roar from the portal above them revealed more of the whale creatures were barreling down. There were more of them?! Bismarck had reduced entire squadrons of those flyers to debris at this point, but it seemed that until they closed the portal, more would only flow through.
Steve had the exact same idea, and as a new plan was made, each person in the group had a different role to play. Turning to Bismarck, she had yet to be assigned a role.
"Biank-Bismarck. You sure you're up for this?"
He was still probably surprised that his cousin of all people was an actual Battleship, but this was no time to be concerned for familial safety.
"I am under your orders, Herr Kapitan."
Steve grimaced, but he had no other options right now. "Alright, you're on Anti-Aircraft duty and bottleneck. Take out any of those…whales when you have a clear shot. Don't shoot at any buildings, there may still be civilians in there."
Bismarck nodded, before using her enhanced strength to jump onto a high vantage point, shooting at any invading alien skirmishers in the process. As she reached the top of her building, she once more aimed not only her secondaries to targets above but also her main batteries. Fifteen Inch AP shells slammed directly onto any whales she had a clear sight line of.
The skies of Manhattan were once more treated to the sounds of Flak, as the alien invaders in the skies fell by the dozen once more.
"Incoming on your left, Bismarck!"
"Acknowledged."
Bismarck's crisp voice came back over the radio, as Clint watched her take out another half dozen group of alien hovercraft attempting to strafe her. Poor bastards didn't even get the chance to fire before a hail of AA fire turned them into burning wrecks and flesh, alien flesh. He, like Nat, raised some eyebrows when Bismarck introduced herself as a Battleship, but he definitely wasn't going to ask about it right now. As long as she was blowing those alien craft out of the sky and taking out those giant whales, then she was a-okay in his book.
With the National Guard also deployed, they had successfully evacuated most civilians from the epicentre, but reports of attacks on the other boroughs of New York had started flowing in. The portal was still open, however, and until it was closed more aliens would continue flowing in. Despite Bismarck's hail of gunfire above, even he could see that she was starting to be overwhelmed. Some lucky hits had caused her uniform to be ruined, but she otherwise appeared to still be fine.
Taking out another alien climbing up the building, he reached for another arrow behind his quiver, only to find that it was empty. In the worst possible moment, another alien skirmisher had landed behind him, ready to shoot.
BOOM
A second later, he heard a high-pitched whistling noise and the alien's form was instantly turned into mist, as something impacted his form at high speed. Turning around, he saw Bismarck looking at her, one of her turrets aimed toward where the alien was. He waved back at her, giving his thanks. If he got out of this alive, he definitely wanted her on his team for any future operations. Giant naval cannons made for one hell of an insurance policy after all.
Bismarck's ammunition reserves were running low, and Kansen did not have infinite ammunition supplies, but they were recovered over time. Unfortunately, over the course of the entire battle, a high-intensity Flak bombardment of the skies had reduced most of her reserves of secondary ammunition to dangerous levels, and she was unable to take a breather to recuperate expended rounds. Accurate as her main guns were, they couldn't take out large groups of alien riders. Unless she used her more 'exotic' abilities, like her black hole shells, though she was concerned about using them right above a civilian area, thus limiting its use.
Just as she was about to radio that her reserves were running low, Agent Romanov's voice came over the radio.
"I can close the portal, repeat, I can close it!"
Iron Man's voice immediately cut in, however, and Bismarck's blood ran cold upon hearing his words. "I've got a nuke coming in. It's going to blow in less than a minute, and I know just where to put it."
Diverting her two remaining floatplanes to go search for the inbound nuke, she saw through them that Iron Man was chasing it. She could only watch as he diverted it from hitting Stark Tower at the last second, and straight up into the portal itself.
Soon after, all of the flyers and whales that were active before ceased functioning, like robots that lost connection to a CPU. She watched with bated breath as the portal began closing, and saw Iron Man come out of it. Though she immediately noticed with her optics that he was not falling in control, nor was he slowing down either. Just before he hit the ground though, Doctor Banner managed to catch him, before crashing onto the bridge where they planned their defences.
Jumping down as well, Bismarck landed on the bridge, denting the asphalt with a loud crack. As she made her way over to Iron Man's downed form, Banner roared, causing him to jerk up, awakened.
The Battle was over. But with Steve's glances towards her, the hard part had yet to come, and the two finally had to come clean to each other. She was really not looking forward to what came next.
AN:
Finally, that's done. The last chapter was the first half of the Battle of New York, this is the second half. I dislike writing long battle scenes so this is what ya get, they often feel like filler to me.
As always, comments down below, nothing you wouldn't say in person.
