It has been four years since the monumental events in Peru, where the Autobots joined forced with the Maximals to defeat Scourge and his Terrorcons. With the Terrorcons vanquished and Unicron evaded, the Autobots have returned to their home in New York. Meanwhile, the Maximals remained in Peru to protect the tribe of humans to whom they share history with. Wheeljack also remained in the area in order to track any notable Decepticon activity that may occur there, per the Autobots' plan of dividing all their forces across the Earth to keep tabs on the planet. Mirage tends to live with Noah most of time, still requiring more repairs after his throwdown with Scourge, leaving only Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, and Arcee to take refuge in the abandoned building they have made to be their home in New York.
It was currently night time and Bumblebee was out for another one of his drives. He always liked seeing and learning from what the humans like to partake in while also searching for any Decepticon activity afoot. Besides, it was always nice for him to get out of the base every once and a while. He was just coming back to base, and excitedly drove into the abandoned building, evident by his speed causing him to burn some rubber. Upon transforming into robot mode, he noticed Optimus and Arcee were already there, staring at him given the entrance he made. Optimus bore his usual stoic expression while Arcee smiled, given that she was used this kind of high-speed behavior from him.
"I'm so excited! And I just can't hide it! I'm about to lose control and I think I like it!", Bumblebee played the audio clip from the song while dancing around happily.
"Well, you're in a good mood, Bee", Arcee smiled.
Optimus simply walked away. It was obvious that he thought Bumblebee's entrance was due to some threat he discovered, but with Bumblebee being happy for some reason, he knew everything was most likely alright with the world currently.
"Lemme guess, this is about the Godzilla movie, isn't it?", Arcee said.
In response, Bumblebee played an audio clip using the radio installed in place of his voice box that was of the iconic Godzilla roar. "Aaaaaaaaarh…!"
Arcee chuckled. She always found it entertaining how Bumblebee used his radio to talk, which often resulted in some funny conversations with him, although, it could never beat his original voice that was ripped out by Blitzwing some years ago.
"You know, I wouldn't mind seeing this movie myself", Arcee said. "I mean, what's not to love about a giant monster that goes around destroying stuff? Shame that most of his movies only came out in theaters in Japan".
"That's a damn shame", Bumblebee agreed, using the line from Pulp Fiction.
"Hey, maybe just for the heck of it, we could go together. I mean, I haven't been to a drive-in theater for a long time…", Arcee suggested.
In response, Bumblebee gave two thumbs up, along with a happy look in his eyes, indicating he'd be happy with her tagging along to see the movie.
"Alright! I'm not exactly a movie girl, but if there's any movie I'd wanna watch, it would be about Godzilla for sure", Arcee smiled. "You wanna tag along, Prime?"
"No", Optimus Prime answered.
"We would be honored if you would join us", Bumblebee said using an audio clip from Darth Vader.
"While I have no doubts that a movie about a reptilian monster destroying cities would be very much exciting, I doubt I could remain at a theater for that long without pertaining to any matters concerning the Decepticons, or any whereabouts on our Autobot or Maximal friends", Optimus Prime explained.
"You sure? You might be missing out…", Arcee smirked.
"I have made up my mind. That said, I hope the two of you have fun", Optimus replied. "Maybe another time, I will go see this movie for myself".
"Just the two of us", Bumblebee played an audio clip from the song by Bill Withers.
"I should warn you, Bee, if this movie's a let-down, you're gonna need to scrub my paint job anytime it gets dirty…for a week!", Arcee smirked at her comrade.
"Challenge accepted!", Bumblebee played another audio clip.
With this, Bumblebee and Arcee high-fived each other. While the two were having their fun chit-chat, Optimus, now turned away from them, smiled, for he was happy that two of his closest friends and fellow Autobots were in such a good mood and enjoyed each other's company.
A few nights later, movie night finally came, and Bumblebee and Arcee quietly drove up to the drive-in theater, Bumblebee in his offroad Camaro mode, and Arcee in her motorcycle mode, along with her holographic human in her driver's seat so no one would see that she was a motorcycle driving herself. The two pulled into the parking lot next to each other and turned off their engines, ready to watch the new movie.
"You ready to finally see Godzilla on the big screen, Bee?", Arcee asked, enthusiastically.
"Ready or not, here I come!", Bumblebee said, using another radio station. "Wish the boss was able to come, though", he said with another station.
"Yeah, I do feel bad that Optimus can't come. He always seems so busy. I don't know about you, but I feel like we should make it up to him someday", Arcee said.
"Couldn't…agree…more!", Bumblebee said using the radio dial. "Give him a day off—let us do it!"
"That's actually a pretty good idea", Arcee agreed. "Let him have a day off so we can do the hard work for the day. I gotta say, you are quite the quick thinker, Bee".
"Why…thank you…", Bumblebee used another radio station, this one having a British accent.
After their conversation concluded, the streetlights around the parking lot turned off, and the large projector lit up, indicating that the movie was about to start.
"Movie's starting. Remember our deal, Bee?", Arcee teased.
"You bet", Bumblebee used his radio dial again, tuning into what was most likely some sort of crime/action film.
At first, while watching the movie, both Bumblebee and Arcee were pretty invested, but within at least the first thirty minutes, they both began to realize just how bad the movie was, especially after noticing the design they gave Godzilla. The design they used was so bad, it shouldn't even be called Godzilla. Both Autobots even noticed other humans turning their car engines back on and driving away since the movie was so bad. To make matters worse, a modern (at the time) red mustang pulled up next to Bumblebee. Once the engine was turned off, four teenage boys, who looked like they were seniors in high school, exited the car, and just by their demeanor it was obvious that they were one of what humans refer to as "gangs".
"John, why are we even here?", one of the humans asked. "It's just a stupid movie".
"We're not here to see a stupid movie", John replied, the same boy who drove the mustang. "We're here to make somebody's car payments go up…", he said as he pulled out a small, yet sharp metal tack.
John then walked over to Bumblebee. "Now, I've never seen a beauty like this before", he said as he rubbed the hood of the car. "Nice wheels…", John gave out a smirk.
"This guy's testing me", Bumblebee used another audio clip.
"Bee, what are doing?", Arcee asked him.
"Alright, time to pop this thing", John declared as he neared the tack closer to Bumblebee's tire.
Before John could do anything, though, Bumblebee swung his own door open, causing it to hit John and for him to fall into the pavement, all while Bumblebee played "Mama's Gonna Knock you Out", on his radio. Arcee couldn't help but chuckle at the human thug's failed antic.
"Let's get out of here", Bumblebee used his speaker before him and Arcee drove away.
Later, once they distanced themselves from the annoying humans, Bumblebee and Arcee found themselves driving through the city again.
"Well, looks like I lost", Bumblebee said via another audio clip while him and Arcee drove through the streets of Brooklyn.
"What do you—oh, you mean the bet I made", Arcee replied and then chuckled a bit. "Bee, you don't think I actually would have made you do that, would you?"
"That was my impression", Bumblebee used his radio again.
"Look, if it were Mirage or Wheeljack, maybe, but I've got a soft spot for you, Bee, so there's no way I'd let you scrub my dirty paint job for a week! But, you do owe me a good movie".
"Sounds good to me!", Bumblebee said, using his radio.
"You know, those humans earlier, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't tempted to get some payback. I mean, they did attempt to deflate your tire", Arcee thought out loud. "But, we all know the rule of keeping a low profile".
"Revenge feels so good!", Bumblebee said with the radio.
"I like the way your think, Bee, but I don't that's an option for us Autobots".
As if they spoke of the devil, the same red mustang drove alongside Bumblebee during their drive on the busy streets.
"Well look at that. The yahoos are back", Arcee pointed out.
"Look, I think we got off on the wrong foot", John said. "All I wanna do is see how durable that paint job is", he said as he reached his knife over to scratch Bumblebee's paint job. Luckily, Bumblebee was able to swerve just enough to where he avoided it. "Ugh, what's your problem?", John complained. "Let's ditch these losers". He then noticed the same motorcycle, and assumed that the yellow car and red motorcycle belonged to the same people. "Oh, and by the way, that motorcycle is ugly!", John laughed before the red mustang sped away.
"That's it! The yahoo's going down!", Arcee declared before turning up her speed a bit.
"Now that's what I'm talking about!", Bumblebee said with his radio while following her.
Later that night, Bumblebee and Arcee reached where the young adult lived. He lived in a secluded, upscaled, two-story house. What was really good is with it being secluded, Bumblebee and Arcee would be able to access their robot modes, especially with most people being asleep this late at night.
"You sure this is a good idea?", Bumblebee asked Arcee with his radio dial.
"You're the one who suggested we get revenge, Bee", Arcee smirked. "Now, what did you say this was called again, and why did we need to get so much?", she directed her attention to the four six-pack containers of toilet paper.
"Toilet paper!", Bumblebee joked as he used his audio dial.
"Oh, so this must be what humans do when they…uuuugh…", Arcee shuddered nervously as she was forced to think of human bodily functions. "Now, didn't you say how you and that one human used this on another human's house?"
Bumblebee nodded happily before reaching for another pack of toilet paper. He then launched it at John's large house with all his might, causing it to tear open and allowing the toilet paper to cover his house.
"Oooooh, now that's pretty clever!", Arcee smiled. "I guess this can be used for more than…never mind".
With this, Arcee used the pack she already had to launch it at the human's house. It was the same result as Bumblebee's throw, with the toilet paper covering John's house.
"Yes!", Arcee cheered in a whisper. "Alright, at the same time. Ready…?", she asked as bother her and Bumblebee each grabbed the last to pack of toilet paper. "One…two…three!", she declared as her and Bumblebee launched them at the house, causing it to be covered in even more toilet paper.
"Not gonna lie…that felt pretty good…", Arcee smiled before her and Bumblebee high-fived.
However, their joy was put at an end when they saw the house lights turn on, along with shouting from within the house.
"We should probably leave…", Arcee suggested.
Bumblebee nodded in agreement and the two Autobots quickly transformed into vehicle mode and drove away as fast as they could.
By the time John got out of his house, he saw it was covered in toilet paper and immediately freaked out.
"What the fuck?!", he couldn't help but react.
When he looked out at the road, he saw the same yellow car and red motorcycle drive away, and when he did, the annoying, spoiled, rich kid looked at the two Autobots with resentment as they drove away.
"Okay…let's never do anything like that again", Arcee said, all be it in a joking manner.
"You and me both, partner", Bumblebee said, using an audio clip from what was probably an old western.
"You know, we've still got some free time. Got anything you wanna do, Bee?", Arcee asked.
"I'm leaving this one up to you", Bumblebee said with the audio dial.
"Well, the revenge was your idea to begin with, so I guess that is fair. I think I've got an idea…", she said as she led Bumblebee to down the road.
Later, Bumblebee and Arcee were present at a beach. Thankfully, no humans were there since it was late at night, meaning both of them could chill in their robot modes. Bumblebee and Arcee sat next to each other on the sand with their feet in the water ever so slightly.
"You know, out of all the things Earth has to offer, these beaches, I always thought were the most beautiful…", Arcee admired as she dug her metal fingers into the sand.
Since all he could use to speak was the radio, Bumblebee stayed silent, but he made it clear with his expressions that he enjoyed being at the beach with Arcee, and he agreed that it was indeed a beautiful place.
"Hey, didn't you say you and that one human were at a beach at one point?", Arcee asked Bumblebee.
Bumblebee nodded his head happily, remembering the fun adventure he had with Charlie Watson.
"What did you say her name was again?"
"Charlie", Bumblebee played on his radio, this time, using the recorded clip from Charlie when he met her for the first time.
Bumblebee then looked at the stars, thinking of the bond he had with her, and how close they became, and what she could be doing now, so long after they parted ways.
Arcee scooted a little closer to Bumblebee. "You miss her, don't you?", she said to him.
Bumblebee nodded again, this time in a much slower and sadder tone.
"I…I'm sorry I brought it up…", Arcee said, sheepishly.
"Don't be", Bumblebee said with his radio.
"You know, that makes me think…", Arcee said as she looked at the stars. "Every day…I still miss him…"
Right when Arcee said this, Bumblebee immediately knew who she was talking about: Cliffjumper. He recalled Optimus Prime mentioning that before he made it to Earth, he got wind of Cliffjumper's death and that he had been killed by Shatter and Dropkick. Before that, her and Cliffjumper were partners in war, and needless to say, Arcee was heartbroken when she learned of his passing.
"I know, a lot of times, it might seem like I'm a bot of few words, and that I can give off the cold shoulder sometimes, but…that's only because I still can't get over the fact that he died and that I couldn't save him… I know that's not a good excuse, but…"
"I know how you feel", Bumblebee said with his radio.
"How could you possibly understand what I had to go through? You didn't even know him like I did!", Arcee snapped.
When Arcee snapped, Bumblebee couldn't help but give a look on his face that indicated his feelings were hurt when he tried to help. Arcee noticed this, and when she did, she immediately felt sick to her own spark. Not only that, but she remembered how Bumblebee lost his own voice because of Blitzwing, and how he has to struggle with it, just like she has to struggle with losing Cliffjumper.
"He was my friend, too", Bumblebee said with another audio clip.
Arcee was silent for only a moment. "Bee…I'm so sorry…I…I shouldn't have said that…you were only trying to help…", Arcee felt even worse, for Bumblebee was not referring to his voice, he was referring to Cliffjumper as well.
Arcee looked away from Bumblebee in shame, and Bumblebee looked at her with a concerned look of grief all over his face. He felt bad for Arcee, and he knew the death of Cliffjumper hit her harder than anyone else.
Bumblebee lifted his arm up, wanting to put it around Arcee's shoulders, but hesitated. He then remembered a similar experience he had with Charlie. When they were in her garage, and he was going through old VHS tapes and came across Charlie's old diving tapes, it led to Charlie telling Bumblebee how her father passed away and how it made her sad. He recalled in that situation how he hesitated to comfort her, but when he decided to do so, she confided in him. Bumblebee knew Arcee was going through something similar with the death of Cliffjumper, and even though Cybertronians are incapable of crying, if she could, Arcee would definitely be crying right now.
With this, Bumblebee wrapped his arm around Arcee, and just like Charlie, Arcee confided in him by leaning up against his chasse.
"There's no reason to be sorry", Bumblebee said with his radio. "I get it", he used a different clip.
"Bee…thank you…", Arcee smiled a bit as she placed her hand on his knee. "I don't think I've ever had anyone to really talk to about that kind of stuff before…"
"I'm here if you ever need to talk", Bumblebee used his audio dial again.
"Well, there is something else I'd like to talk to you about…"
With his voice, or lack there of, Bumblebee was silent, but his facial expression indicated he was ready and willing to listen to what Arcee had to say.
"During the fight against the Terrorcons, when you tried to save Optimus, and you got…impaled…by Scourge, we all thought you were gone for good, and even though you came back, it got me thinking, what if it happened again, but…for real…?"
Hearing this, Bumblebee's facial expression became more and more attentive and focused on her words.
"Look, I've already lost Cliffjumper, among so many others…and after everything we've been through, both now and before…I don't think I can handle losing you…", she continued to confide in him.
"That's not gonna happen, that's a promise", Bumblebee assured her with his radio dial as he kept his arm wrapped around her. "I'll always be here, no matter what, whenever you wanna talk…"
"Bee…thanks…I don't know why but…I feel like after our talk, I just feel…like…a weight has finally been taken off of my shoulders…"
"No…thank you…", Bumblebee used his radio again. "I only wish I could say more…", he used another clip, referring to the fact that he could only use the radio to speak, not his actual voice, and therefore, not his own emotions.
"You don't have to…", Arcee reassured him. "Say…think we should head back to base?"
Bumblebee gave a nod.
"Yeah, besides, Optimus might be wondering what's taking us so long. And hey, do you think we could do this again sometime? It's just so nice to finally let my emotions run wild around someone. You really are a good friend, and I can see why Optimus thinks so highly of you".
Hearing this, Bumblebee's face turned into a frantic expression as he waved his hands in front of him, believing there was no way someone of Optimus Prime's caliber would think so highly of just another scout like him.
"Come on, you act like that's not true. You're always too modest, Bee", she teased him. "Come on, let's get back before Optimus gets mad at us".
Bumblebee gave another enthusiastic nod.
"Last one back has to clean Prime's ion blaster for a month!", Arcee joked before running off the sand and transforming into her motorcycle mode.
"Hey, that's cheating!", Bumblebee joked back, using his audio dial before following Arcee's lead.
Even though Optimus Prime might be ticked off that they were out too late, both Bumblebee and Arcee were happy that they would regularly get together and hang out either at the drive-in theater, or at the beach when no humans are around. And with everything Arcee has gone through, she couldn't be more thankful to have a friend like Bumblebee to confide in when times are tough and she's going through a rough patch. If there was anything that Arcee knew about Bee, he wasn't the best talker, given his condition, but he is without a doubt the best friend and listener she could have asked for.
The End.
