Jason doesn't sleep the first few nights after Derek's betrayal. The wound is too fresh, and if he sleeps, he knows he's going to be able to see his old friend's eyes - how they used to be a warm brown but are now a metallic gold.
It makes him feel sick. He tries to lie in bed and stay silent, but he can't. He just can't.
He finds himself in his father's temple, a half hearted prayer on his lips when Reyna - the girl from the island, the girl who saved him from Derek walks in. Her hair isn't in its usual tight braid. It was flowing down her shoulders. She looks like the portrait of her mother Bellona.
"Jason?" She says and he stands up. "Reyna. What are you doing here?" She stares him down. "I saw the temple light on. Figured it was late for someone to be doing offerings. Are you- are you okay?" Jason sucks in a breath.
In all honesty, he doesn't know how to answer that. Like at all. He fiddles with the drawstrings of his hoodie. "I'm fine." He mumbles and Reyna gives him a unconvinced look.
"I mean, I just got almost killed by the closest person to family that I have, and my mom is still out there. I'm really fucking okay." The words slip out of his mouth and he winces.
Jason doesn't swear. He never has. Reyna opens her mouth before continuing. "This is the part where you're supposed to tell me everything will be okay."
She rolls her eyes. "Everything will be okay. There I said it." Jason rolls his eyes as well.
He sits down on the floor playing with the hem of his shirt. "I'm scared. Like really scared." Reyna nods.
"Everyone is scared. You just need to not let it control you. You control yourself."
Jason nodded slowly. "Yeah."
He doesn't fully believe her. Somehow that's a lot worse.
