Detective Gumshoe was sitting in his desk. It was just another workday. Just another ordinary day for the poor detective. And yet, it was destined to take a turn for the surprising. It all started when the phone rang. He answered it.

"Yes?"

"Is this detective Gumshoe?" asked a man on the other side of the line.

"Yes, it's me, pal. How can I help you?"

"I need to tell you something. You are the only one I trust."

"Who are you?"

"I am Edgeworth. Miles Edgeworth."

"W…what?!" shouted Gumshoe and jumped up from his chair. Everyone in the room turned to look at him. He quietly sat down and tried to keep a low profile. After he saw everyone go back to their jobs, he kept talking silently.

"Mr. Edgeworth? I…it's you?!"

"Indeed. It's been a while."

"That's all you have to say?! After all this time?! I…I thought you were dead! So did everyone else!"

"I know. I apologize for the confusion."

"So you are alive?! Then why? Why leave like that?! Why say "prosecutor Miles Edgeworth chooses death?""

"Don't get me wrong. The man I used to be is dead and gone. I am still alive. But I have rediscovered myself. Which is why I have returned. I now know what I need to fight for."

"What is that?"

There was a short pause after that

"We cannot discuss this over the phone."

"Alright. Can we meet?"

"Not yet. I am in Europe. I wet on a journey of self-discovery. And I am coming back soon.

"Great!"

"How is…he doing?"

"Not good. He is still defending, but…he is heartbroken. He thinks you killed yourself out of spite for your perfect record being ruined."

"I…see."

"Also, your sister is not making things easier for him."

"My sister?"

"Franziska von Karma."

"What? No…she is not supposed to be there. What is she doing there?"

"She wants to get revenge on Wright. She really hates his guts. I mean, they just spent a couple days duking it out in the courtroom. Man, I'm telling you that whip wouldn't stop flying left and right."

"And?"

"He beat her."

"So…her perfect record is gone? How did she take it?"
"Do you need me to answer that?"

"No, not really. Don't worry. I'll fix this. I'll talk some sense into her."

"She won't listen."

"She will listen to me. She always does. But don't tell her yet. Or Wright."

"Why not?"

"They will both demand an explanation. And rightfully so. I have to look them in the eyes and tell them the truth. Not through the safety of a phone call."

"I see. Okay."

"Oh, and listen. Keep my updated on them. If they take another case against each other…"

"I know. I'll keep in touch."

A few days later, a murder was committed at the berry big circus. Franziska was the prosecutor, while Phoenix decided to defend the suspect. Gumshoe of course kept his word and called Edgeworth.

"Hello, Mr. Edgeworth."

"Hello, detective? What is it?"

"A murder. The ringmaster of a local circus was killed. We arrested the magician for the murder."

"Since you are telling me all this, I suppose they took the case."

"Yes. They both seem ready to tear each other apart, especially Ms. von Karma."

"I expected as much. Keep my updated. Report every finding. Every piece of evidence, every witness statement. Talk with Wright. He is bound to find something the investigations overlooked."

"Are you planning to solve the whole case over the phone.

"Sort of. We will work together. You will be my liaison there. You will handle the physical stuff. Don't let me down."

"I won't sir. You can trust me!"

"I know."

"But…why are you doing this?"

"I owe it to him. He saved me and…if he needs help, I'll need to know how to help him. And Franziska…now that her father is gone…I suppose she is kind of my responsibility. I have to keep her in check. Make sure she doesn't go off the far end."

"How will you do that?"

"That's where you come in detective."

Gumshoe was at the prosecutor's office, speaking with Franziska

"Are you sure this surprise raid in Acro's room will make the case?" asked Franziska.

"You can bet on that, sir! He is the only person the defense can hope to accuse to win. Everyone else has an alibi. If we search his room unexpectedly and find nothing, we can be sure he is not involved. And then we can wrap this case up…perfectly."

Franziska thought about it and said:

"Very well. Gather up the men. We are departing within the hour."

"Got it, sir!"

He left the office.e Naturally, he call Edgeworth as soon as he got outside.

"Yes?"

"It worked, sir! I convinced her to search Acro's room."

"Excellent. This will make the case."

"Are you sure?"

"Arco is bound in a wheelchair. He cannot get outside on his own to dispose of he murder weapon. He must still keep it in his room. And if the policy suddenly raids his room, he will have no choice but to hide it under his wheelchair."

"I am amazed, sir! How can you put so much together from so far away? You are a genius!"

"I wouldn't go that far. It is merely a matter if connecting the dots. Every other suspect has an alibi. Since the killer left no footprints, he must have come from above. Acro's room is directly above the murder scene. That missing bust looks like Max Galactica and it could very well be mistaken for him in the darkness. The monkey that is known for stealing shiny objects lives in his room. He has a grudge against his daughter. That note proves not only that he was going to kill her, but also that her father knew. That's probably why he went in her place."

"Congratulations, sir!"

"You are the true hero, detective! If you hadn't describes everything in such perfect detail, I never could have figured out the truth.

"Aw, stop. You are making me blush."

"I mean, it. You are a great detective. And I'm glad you stayed to make sure the truth came out in my absence."

"Thank you. But...I am worried about Ms. von Karma.

"Why?"

"She is not taking it very well. Losing that first case really got under her skin. Now, she is determined to win. It's not just her ego or perfectionism. She has been raised to be perfect. She is the daughter of Manfred von Karma after all. She is under too much pressure to deliver perfection. If she loses again…I'm afraid she might crack."

"I know that. Which is why I will try to help her get back on her feet. She needs to understand perfections is not only impossible, but also unnecessary. Perfection lies in the imperfect things. Humans are flawed. And so, their actions are bound to be flawed."

"If I tell her all that, I'll just get whipped."

"Leave this up to me. I know how to handle her."

Are you coming back?"

"Soon. Which is why I need to ask one last favor of you. No one can know I am back yet. So…"

On the day after Max's trial was over, Gumshoe arrived at the airport. He parked his car and went to meet Edgeworth. His plane had just landed. As soon as he saw him, he was excited. Just before that moment, he still believed it wasn't true. That he was in some kind of dream. However, as he saw him walk down the aisle with his suitcase in hand, he realized how true everything was. He couldn't contain his happiness. He run to Mr. Edgeworth and hugged him.

"Mr Edgeworth! I am so happy to see you! I've missed you so much!"

Edgeworth felt awkward. However, without even realizing it, he found himself hugging the detective back.

"I guess I've missed you, too, detective Gumshoe."

"So what are your plans. Will you tell them?"

"I will. Just not yet. I need a couple of days. I want to return to my home and settle in. Then…they deserve to know. I just…don't know how they'll react."

"I wish I could say they'll be happy, but…" said Gumshoe. "Ms. von Karma will definitely react badly. And Mr. Wright…he has become very bitter ever since…you know. I don't know how he'll welcome you."

"I just hope he gives me one chance to explain. I will tell him everything."

"Come on, sir. Let's get you home. I'm glad to be the first one to welcome you back to the world of the living."

"And I like to be welcomed by you, detective.
