AN: Hi! I don't normally play in this fandom - just a lurking reader here - but a child made a comment and a thought lead to a bunny - albeit a small one - that wouldn't hush until this was written.
Thanks to all who read!

A Reminder

It was only afterwards that Obi-Wan stopped to think. He hadn't had a moment during the attack. But, now, in his room, he had a moment – barely, but one, nonetheless.

Grievous greeted him.

Sure, it was mocking, but Grievous took a moment to greet him. A simple 'Hello there'.

'A common courtesy given all the time on missions. You greet those you are there to talk to, to deal with by whatever means you have to. It doesn't matter what the end is, but it should start off with a simple greeting. As a Jedi, that is what we are trained for. Diplomacy … courtesy … this war is taking it out of us. We need to remember simple things. A simple hello can go a long way.'

He cringed slightly inwards, trying not to think that it was an enemy that reminded him of who he was. He was Obi-Wan Kenobi, Jedi Master. After that, he held other titles, but this was the one he chose. The one he wore a slave collar to get, one he faced the censorship of returning to the Order after staying in a war zone without his Master's permission, the one he accepted Anakin for, the one that let him sit on the High Council.

'And a Jedi Master should not forget their training. A simple greeting … that is all that is needed. Even in the thick of battle, one should not forget their manners.'

He acknowledged that the use of a greeting might give him an advantage over the enemy – a moment of surprise. 'But if they accept the greeting and do not attack, then they should be granted the ability to surrender. It's the right thing to do.'

He stood up and then touched the brown fabric that peaked around his armour. He would be who he was – a Jedi.
