Slow night in the city

Once upon a night, when Cat Boy was trying to figure out as to how to handle Bastet, he noticed that Luna Girl and Mothsuki were establishing some sort of a platform upon a tree that grew close to the city's waterline.

"And what are you doing?" he asked, trying to keep the chapter rolling.

"Eh, it's a special moon tonight," Mothsuki shrugged, as they put the platform together, while not falling into water. "I and Mothsuki are going to watch it as a sibling bonding activity-"

"Shouldn't your parents supervise?"

"They're over there," Mothsuki jerked a wing in a direction; Cat Boy looked there, and sure enough, there was something – two somethings, one bigger than the other – sitting on a rooftop.

"Um," he said brightly.

"Daddy is a Jabberwock, and mommy is a yokai," Mothsuki said helpfully. "Big sister Luna is the only one in the family without wings-"

"Yes, well, I still got my Luna board," the nighttime bad person in question shot back. "Anyhow-"

"So, this is where your friends hang out?" a new voice asked. The others looked in that direction, and sure enough, there were Lillyfay and Newton, hovering in mid-air.

"Oh, it's you," Mothsuki said flatly, even as Luna Girl carefully said nothing. "What do you want? Can't you go and harass Pharaoh Boy and Octobella on their not-a-date instead?"

"We're not harassing anyone," Lillyfay spoke in a more defensive tone than normally. "We're just trying to be heroes!"

"Um, yeah," Newton nodded, eyeing the grownups in the distance himself. "We are. Is there anyone who is doing something bad tonight?"

The bushes rustled, and out peeked Night Ninja. "Hey! Luna Girl!" he called out, causing the latter to twitch. "Can you talk to Romeo, please? I think he is going to go nuclear tonight!"

"Am not!" the boy in question shot back, even as he sat in the cockpit of… an unholy combination of a fighter jet and a tank. "I promised that I won't take over the world and defeat the PJ Masks with a nuclear bomb, remember? This is just a transmogrificator; it transmogrifies things, nothing more!"

"What kind of things?" Luna Girl did not sound too convinced.

"Well, it transforms sand into water, and water into sand, for example," Romeo demonstrated even as he spoke, "so now I'm going to zap the space girl in white and see what happens to her-"

"Eeep!" went Lillyfay, (who had not been prepared to face Romeo at his most imaginative tonight), and flew away as hard as she could. Romeo, naturally, laughed maniacally and gave chase in his metal monstrosity.

Newton, surprisingly, did not join in, but rather sat down not far from Luna Girl and Mothsuki instead.

"Are you ok?" they asked him, since it was obvious that Lillyfay was rather outmatched in this face-off.

"No," Newton admitted. "I like Lillyfay; I really do; but seem to be thinking on different brain lengths or something. For example, for tonight, I just wanted to enjoy the moon and everything, and all she wanted was go and look for trouble-"

"Well, she found it, and they're coming here," Luna Girl snapped, as this was indeed what was happening – Lillyfay made a loop and was flying back to Newton, while Romeo was chasing her and preparing to fire at her – and all of them were in his line of fire, and when did Romeo care about things like that?

In fact, he did not, for he discharged his latest war machine at all of them – but that was not a problem, as Newton blocked the blast with his own power. Romeo increased the output. Luna Girl and Mothsuki looked at each other, sighed, and began to help Newton with their own beams. The two forces began to balance each other out. Lillyfay recovered her wits (and her strength) and joined in. Now Romeo's latest war machine blew up for real.

"Well, this was fun," Lillyfay spoke with some of her usual brightness as the cloud of soot and smoke dispersed.

"Glad that you feel this way," Newton replied as he sat back down. "And now that we've defeated Romeo for the night, I'm going to stay here and enjoy the moon sight."

"What moon sight?" Romeo called out from down below. The others looked in that direction, and sure enough, there was the boy genius, sitting on top of Cat Boy, who had broken his fall (without intending to).

"Get off!" he told Romeo instead.

"Eh, we saw Bastet as we were flying over the city. Her father is visiting her and her mum, so she's hanging around them for tonight, most likely," Romeo responded.

"Oh, ok," Cat Boy abruptly stopped trying to shove Romeo off him.

There was an awkward pause. The giggles made by Night Ninja and the Ninjalinos, (still hiding for safety in the bushes), did not help the situation either.

"Anyways," Luna Girl said brightly, doing her best to ignore the mess, "the moon has risen, and so has everything else. Mothsuki, see the amber-green light over there, for example? It's planet Jupiter!"

"Cool!" Mothsuki said brightly, while eying Lillyfay in an odd manner.

"You've been there before?" the other girl decided to join the discussion, (apparently, she was not good with social interactions).

"No," Luna Girl said flatly. "Recently, Mothsuki took me on a dare to Mars, and we almost got stranded there because she got that exhausted – so no. We are not going to Jupiter any time soon. You crazy kids will have to do it by yourselves."

"Anyways," Newton spoke-up quickly, "over there is the Dog star Sirius instead, and it is glowing with a blue-white hot light, see?"

"Totally!" Lillyfay said cheerfully. "It is one of my favorite stars, I'll visit it someday! You want to come?" she asked Newton.

"Uh, moving on," the latter replied instead, "we got the Aldebaran, and it's ruby-red-"

"Here is the constellation of Orion, sparkling like diamonds-"

"-And there's the constellation of Argo, looking rather silvery," Lillyfay finished. "I know my way around the sky, you know, so can I be in your astronomy club?"

There was an awkward pause. "There's no club," Luna Girl did not back down. "There's me, sometimes doing astronomy, because unlike Romeo, I can't harass the PJ Masks and friends every night – it's not how I roll… plus, I'm a moon person, so it's a part of me. There is Mothsuki, who hangs around me, because we are sisters and are trying to work it out. And finally, there's Newton, who sometimes also hangs out with us because while he likes being a hero, he also likes being a space explorer even more-"

"That's a bit harsh, but fundamentally true," Newton muttered. "Lillyfay, I like you and I know that you like being a hero more than a space explorer, but I think that we're doing about it in different ways-"

"Yes, but so what? Friends can still have disagreements, do things differently, and stay friends!" Lillyfay said brightly. "Right?" she turned to others for support. Surprisingly, she got it.

"Sure!" Romeo, Luna Girl and Night Ninja called out. "Totally! Just look at us!"

There was an awkward pause, which was broken, fortunately, by the rest of the PJ Masks arriving on the scene.

"What is going on?" Owlette asked no one in particular, but Romeo answered anyhow:

"Eh, Cat Boy here decided that he likes me better than Bastet!"

"No I don't!" Cat Boy immediately shouted, pushing Romeo off him at last. "I really don't!"

"You really don't what?" the person in question popped-up from the bushes. "What is going on here?"

"Weren't you having a family night?" Mothsuki asked instead.

"Yes," Bastet replied promptly, looking actually rather happy. "But," she added less happily, "some of mom's new friends wanted to meet him as well, and it turned into a grown-up party, and so, here I am, instead. What is going on here?"

"It's a slow night, so Newton is using the Space HQ to take us to Jupiter," Luna Girl said brightly. "Want to join?"

"Sure! I've never been to Jupiter before!" Bastet said excitedly, before switching back to Cat Boy. "Can I go? Please?"

There was a pause as the PJ Masks just looked at each other – and then everyone involved did go onto a tour of Jupiter because it was a slow night – but that was another story.
