A/N: *sees my fans once again with torches and pitchforks* I'M SORRY! my busy schedule slapped me in the face last week but I'm back! Chapter 2...in which you all shall find out what Sev's present is!

Chapter 2

"Harry!"

Harry swiveled around only to find himself being mercilessly hugged by Hermione.

"Hermione! I'm so glad you made it! Harry replied with a smile.

"Where's Professor Snape?"

"He had to get a few things taken care of at Gringotts. He should be back any minute now," Harry replied.

"Oy! Harry!"

Harry looked up and saw Ron walking towards him.

"RON!" Harry took off running towards his best friend.

"Oy, Harry! Not so hard!" Ron gasped as Harry gave him a bone-crushing hug.

"Sorry," Harry said.

At that moment, Severus walked up, Hermione trailing along behind him.

"So Sev, why is there a sneaky look on your face?" Harry asked. He wondered if it had anything to do with his birthday present.

"Sneaky look? I don't have a sneaky look! And where's your dog? I thought you were keeping an eye on him."

Sirius chose to walk up at that moment.

"And where've you been? Hmm?" Harry asked him.

The dog just stared innocently back at him.

"Aww, what a cute dog!" Hermione squealed excitedly.

"His name's Snuffles," Harry said, and Sirius sat up a bit straighter.

"Show off," Harry muttered.

I heard that!

"I like him," Ron said, petting Sirius's head.

Sirius wagged his taqil happily at that.

"Yeah, yeah, my friends love you don't get too excited," Harry smiled as his pet gave him a glare.

"Oh, Harry! Almost forgot, here." Ron handed him a large box.

Harry's face turned red and he looked down.

"Oh, Ron, really you didn't have to get me this," Harry gasped once he'd opened his present.

It was a glass wizard chess board. It looked extremly valuble and fairly new.

"Nah, don't wory about it Harry," Ron said.

"This must've costed a fortune," Harry said guiltily.

"Here, Harry, open mine," Hermione said, flashing Ron a glare.

Ron gave her a look that clearly said "What did I do?"

Harry smiled when he opened Hermione's present, but Ron looked flabbergasted.

"A planner? Hermione you got him a planner? Of all the things to give him on his birthday..."

Hermione shot him another glare.

"Sev?" Harry asked pointedly.

Severus cleared his throat. "Allright, well, I have some good news for you."

"Allright," Harry said, feeling a little nervous. What had Severus gotten him?

"Well, this is only if you want to, Harry. I thought long and hard about what to get you, and I figured this would be the best." Severus hesitated. What if Harry said no? What if he hated him? He took a deep breath, and said, "How would you like it if I adopted you?"
