Chapter 18

Severus hurried out of the Great Hall and caught up with the Golden Trio.

"Harry-" he started, but stopped when he saw the tears in Harry's eyes.

"Sev, what if I'm the Heir of Slytherin?" he sobbed.

"Harry, you didn't open the Chamber of Secrets did you?" Hermione asked.

"I don't think so," Harry replied shakily.

"Then you're not the heir," she placed a hand on his shoulder.

"I still say it's Malfoy," Ron scowled.

"Speaking of which, I wanted to ask you two about something," Severus raised his eyebrows at Ron and Hermione.

"Yes, sir?" Hermione asked.

"You stole from my Potions Lab didn't you?" he asked, getting straight to the point.

"No, sir," Hermione said.

"Don't lie to me, Miss Grange. Harry told me you did."

Ron shot Harry a glare. "Are you trying to get us expelled, mate?" he hissed.

"You're the one risking expulsion, Mister Weasley. I'm letting you both off with a warning. Next time, I'm taking it to the Headmaster."

"It won't happen again, sir," Hermione said earnestly.

"It better not," Severus growled.

Lockhart came out looking flustered. "Well! That was an excellent lesson wasn't it?" he asked, flashing Harry a smile.

"Yeah, sure," Harry replied uneasily, his mind going back to the creepy love note Lockhart had given him the other day.

"I thought it was bloody awful," Ron said.

Severus smirked.

Lockhart looked hurt. "Well," he said, quickly cheering up again, "at least Harry liked it!" then he skipped away happily.

"You know, mate, I think Lockhart's got a thing for you, if you know what I mean," Ron mutered, shaking his head.

Harry nodded. "Yeah, I know he does," he replied.

Hermione gasped. "Lockhart!"

"What?" Harry turned to look at her.

"He's the one that's ben following you around everywhere!"

"Bloody hell," Ron groaned, "Now he's stalking you, mate! Next thing you know you'll wake up and find him sleeping in your bed with you!"

Harry's face turned pink, and he muttered something about putting protective charms around his bed, then he walked away.

Severus rose an eyebrow. "I think it's time I had a little chat with Lockhart."
