Modern Sailor Scouts

Prince of the Night

A/N: Alright, an' onto number 2. As you may have noticed, I've changed the title. I felt like the previous title didn't fit with the seriousness the story is going to take instead of the comedy setting I had had in mind. Other than that, I don't really have much to add aside from to enjoy the story.

Disclaimer: I do not own the show/manga/game that is Sailor Moon. That solely belongs to Naoko and Teoi Animations. I only claim ownership of my characters as well as the plot for this story, as I have gone off my own as well as my friends ideas.

It had been a strange day for me, I had woken up from a strange yet familiar dream, almost as if I had lived through it. Through out the day, I felt like I had seen people I knew but was sure I had never met before. With confusion invading my mind, on my way home, I saw a beautiful black and white cat. Strangely, she had a yellow crescent moon on her forehead. Who would have thought that with that one encounter, my life would drastically change.

"You are a Guardian, as you hold that role, you must protect this planet and it's people," a woman with black and white hair told me, her yellow-green eyes were as if they could see right through me. "You are the Soldier of the Moon, protected and guided by the light which watches the night."

My pendent began to shine and I was told, "There is evil afoot and you are the only one who can stop it." She pointed to the pendent, "That will assist in your fight. Raise it above your head and shout 'Moon Prism Power', you will then become the Soldier of the Moon."

I couldn't help but think in my head, 'What? This can't be real.' When I looked down at the pendent once more, I realized I had no right to refuse this role, for I found myself believing it. With a slow breath, I gently raised the pendent above my head, "Moon Prism Power!"

I ran towards the source of the commotion, a second scream guiding me. The moon slipped behind the clouds and the world grew dark, the trees giving off an aura of evil as I ran. I was surprised by the sudden chill I felt through out my body as I knew I was nearing focus point. I sudden broke through trees and underbrush into a clearing, to which I could not see a thing in the darkness of the moonless night. I tried to focus and see what was going on before the moon broke through the clouds, lighting up the whole clearing.

My violet eyes widened as I gasped in shock, I could see what could only be a monster. It was tall, retaining what could only be a female form. It's hair, which was more like shadowy vines, was deep blue in color. It's back was turned to me, but upon another scream issuing in front of the beast, I knew I had to help. I dashed forward and dodged around the beast to see the front, which caused me to stumble a bit. It's face had a large toothy grin, it's teeth more like fangs and glowing red eyes, having no whites whatsoever.

And in it's hands, were two women, one who appeared unconscious with a glowing pale white crystal floating above her slumped head. The second woman was screaming to high heaven, struggling against the beast's hold. I looked around but found Luna had not kept up with me, with this in mind, I turned back to the monster. I had no idea how to fight it but I had to do something. I nodded to myself and dashed towards the creature's hand, which held the still conscious female.

I lashed out with my foot, kicking it's hand as hard as I could. However, without my knowing, I had not noticed that my boot had been shimmering lightly. Upon impact with the beast's hand, it shower of sparks burst outward and a screeched was heard. I saw the woman fall from the creature's hand and I jumped up again, catching the taller female in my arms. I quickly did a back step, dodging the monster's hand which had tried to smash me. I had gotten a bit a ways with my large back step and looked to the woman in my arms.

She was staring at me in wonder and a trace of fear. "You don't need to fear me" I told her quietly, "I am here to help." Upon saying those words, I gently set her down on the ground, turning back to the beast. I still had to save the other woman, the unconscious one, but the monster's grasp. As if reading my mind, the creature pulled back the hand which still help onto it's victim. I narrowed my violet eyes at it and rushed forward again. However, this time I did not make it anywhere near my target, for I was suddenly shoved back by an unseen force.

I covered my face and closed my eyes as I was forced back, upon opening them again, I saw a man clad in ancient clothing. He wore little armor and it almost seemed royal, his hair was black with a blue shimmer to it. His eyes were closed, his hand raised toward me, he must have been the one to shove me away. But I knew I had not been touched, so what had he shoved me away with. While puzzling over this, he opened his eyes, which were an almost silvery blue, sending a shiver through my body.

He glared at me with those eyes and glanced back to the creature behind him. And then he was gone from my sight, as if he was never to begin with. I hurriedly searched for him with my eyes and I found him upon the hand of the beast. I saw him take that small white crystal in his hand and I rushed forward instinct-fully. But once again, I felt a force push me back, keeping me away from them. I looked up again to see his hand raised towards him, a glare directed at me. It was then that I knew he was the one who caused all of it.

I saw him take hold of the small crystal, which floated in his hand and looked it over with such gentle care before I heard a growl of frustration. I saw his fingers twitch in irritation before tossing the crystal aside. I had no idea what was so important about that crystal but I knew I had to save it. I dashed towards the crystal which was now falling to the ground after having gained some height. I almost grabbed and I tripped, sliding across the ground, somehow catching the crystal in my open hands. I sighed in relief as I moved to my knees, holding the crystal safe in my hands.

I turned my attention back to the creature and man in dark clothing, I could see him sneering at me but he turned his attention towards the other female. My eyes widened as realization hit me, causing me to shout, "RUN!" The woman stared at me with wide eyes before she jumped to her feet and bolted from the clearing. I held the crystal in one hand and moved so that I was standing in front of them, blocking their path.

"Move aside, child" the man told me, a glare prominent on his face. I shook my head, glaring back at with him just as much intensity. He growled in frustration and pointed at me, "Get rid of her!" he shouted to the creature, jumping off it's arm.

The creature roared and sprinted towards me, to which I jumped out of the way of, just barely. I rolled across the ground and pushed myself to my feet in a fluid motion. I was surprised for a moment, wondering how I had done that but my shock was pushed aside as I heard another roar. I turned my attention back to the monster who seemed to glare at me with it's red eyes. 'What do I do now?' I couldn't help asking myself in my head.

I watched the beast glare me down before it rushed me again, to which I dodged once more, able to stay on my feet this time. However, that did not last, for I sudden felt a scolding pain upon my back, as if it had caught fire. I gasped in pain and shock, falling to my knees, bracing myself with one hand. I took deep breaths before I looked behind me to see that man with his hand raised, a smirk on his face.

"It would seem the child is not as tough as she made herself out to be" he chuckled, pulling his arm back. A black orb formed in the palm of that hand, looking like flame but glowing gray and black. "Child, know this at your end and that it was brought onto you by Karasu, the Black Raven" he smirked boldly and lashed out with the flaring sphere. It hurtled towards me and I could do nothing against it as I was still recovering from the previous orb. I struggled to my feet and knew that I would not be able to dodge in time. I closed my eyes as I awaited the pain to take over me.

However, instead of pain, I felt lightness. I was no longer on my feet, but held in someone's arms. I gently opened my eyes to see dark hair and a mask before my face. It was a man, but not the one who was attacking me. His hair was purely black, his skin a light tan. I felt him land and suddenly heard a shout of frustration. I glanced over this new person's shoulder to see Karasu glaring daggers towards us as he charged up flaming orbs in both hands.

"Stay still" a voice told me, who I realized was the guy who held me in his arms. I turned my attention back to my rescuer, who seemed to stare back at me behind his mask. Just then, he jumped once more, out of the area to which went up is black fire as the orbs impacted the ground. Once we had landed again, he gently set me on my feet, smiling at me.

"Who...who are you?" I asked in wonder. My violet eyes could not seem to leave him. I could clearly see now that he had short, messy black hair and he wore a black tuxedo with accents of white. Upon his shoulders were large silver pins that held his white cape in place. Upon his face, hiding his eyes from my sight, was a silver mask with the motif of a black rose on the left side.

"I am known as the Midnight Guardian, but you may call me Night" he told me, turning his eyes towards Karasu.

Just then, I heard a sound behind me and I turned quickly, only to find Luna had finally made it through the trees. I had never realized she had fallen so far behind. "Luna!" I shouted in relief, truth be told, I had been worried she had gotten hurt or something.

Luna looked towards me and I could clearly see a smile upon her furred face. However, that smile disappeared when her eyes fell upon the man beside me, it was a look of puzzlement. Then her eyes moved once more at a growl from Karasu, who had formed a ball of black flames within his hands. "Karasu!" she shouted in surprise, to which I blinked at, so she knew this man.

Karasu's eyes shifted from me and Night towards Luna, to which he smirked, glancing at me. Just then he throw the flaming sphere at Luna and the black and white cat appeared to be frozen on the spot. I moved purely on instinct, but I found myself tripping lightly, landing in front of Luna. I could almost feel the heat from the fire to which I grabbed hold of Luna, protecting her with my body. The flaming blast impacted against my back and threw me forward. I had somehow landed on my side instead of my front, glad I hadn't hurt Luna.

"Cas-" Luna began to say but stopped herself, realizing that she would have revealed my identity.

I smiled down at Luna, shaking my head, "I'm alright" I told her. I stood up, though a little shakily. I looked towards Karasu and glared at him, realizing I would have to strike back soon. However, as if out of nowhere, I felt something close around me. I gasped in a fit of pain, looking down to see that dark hand of the monster who had attacked me earlier. I had completely forgotten about it in the fight.

I groaned lightly as I felt the hand tighten around me, my eyes closing tightly at the pain running through my body. "Good work" came the approving tone of Karasu, who was smirking as his blue eyes shimmered. I looked at Karasu with one eye, the other closed in a pained expression as I felt the hand tighten even more thus causing me to cry out.

"No!" came a shout and then I heard the creature scream, the grip on me loosening to which I fell from it's hold. Instead of hitting the ground, I once more landed in Night's arms. "Are you alright?" he asked me, worry clear in his voice and on his face. I nodded slowly and he jumped back from a stomp by the beast. He gently set me on my feet, supporting me with his shoulder until I could stand on my own feet.

"Why must you continue interfering!?" came the angered shout of Karasu, his eyes seeming to glow unnaturally.

Once I had my footing again, I knew what I had to do. I pointed to Karasu, glaring, "Because you have caused much trouble to these innocent people. For that I cannot forgive your actions." I shifted my position and it was as if the moon began to shine upon my frame, "I am the Soldier of the Moon, Sailor Moon! In the name of Moon, I shall punish you!" I shouted back at him.

Karasu smirked lightly at my proclamation, "Well then 'Sailor Moon', taste your death!" he shouted, forming two orbs of black flames in the palm of his hands. He then slammed his hands together and directed the flames towards us. It had become a beam of flames, to which me and Night jumped to the side to avoid being hit. When I had gotten my footing, I sensed something behind me and jumped forward quickly. I had somehow avoided the beast's hand slamming into the ground.

I took a breath and looked to Luna, "Luna, how do I fight!?"I cried out to her.

The black and white cat looked to me and nodded,"Take this" she told me and the crescent upon her forehead began to shine. From that light formed a short staff with a crescent moon upon the top of it and ribbons flowing from it. After it had formed, it flew towards me and I caught it easily with my hand. "Shout 'Moon Cosmic Clash' and you should be able to fight" she told me gently and I nodded to her.

I turned towards the creature who had been stunned by the shining light, was still rubbing it's red eyes to be able to see again. I raised the staff towards the beast and pointed the crescent moon at it. I closed my eyes and focused my power into the staff, feeling it and myself grow in power. Once I opened my eyes once more, I focused upon the monster in front of me.

"Moooon" I felt my body float off the ground and light shimmer around my body, which cause my eyes to close gently. I raised the staff over my head, gripping with both hands, "Coooosmic". A light seemed to glimmer down from the moon above me, being absorbed into the crescent moon upon the top of the staff. My eyes suddenly opened to reveal shimmering silver orbs, "Clash!" I shouted at the top of my lungs, sweeping the tip of the staff down, directing it towards the creature.

A glimmering light shot out of the tip, giving light shows and a rainbow effect to the surroundings. Once that beam of light hit the monster before me, all could be heard was it's high-pitch screech of pain before it suddenly stopped. Once the light disappeared, all could be seen was shining fragments, almost like glass upon the grass to which the beast had once stood.

Once my feet once more touched the ground, my felt my feet give out from under me and I fell to my knees. I was suddenly overwhelmed by a sense of dizziness, I felt almost light in a way. I looked up to see Karasu staring at me with wide eyes before he disappeared in a flurry of black flames.

"Sailor Moon" a voice called to me and I looked to my side to see Luna. She was walking up to me and her eyes were wide in awe, "I had not expected you to be that powerful upon your first awakening." I smiled at her and heard a shift upon the grass before me. I looked quickly to see the Night rushing off into the woods.

"Wait!" I called, pushing myself to my feet but I was too late, he had already disappeared from my sight. I sighed, clutching the small staff in my hands. I felt a nudge against my boot, to which I directed my attention back to Luna.

"Who was that man?" she ask me, staring at me with her yellow, green eyes.

I shook my head at her, looking back towards the direction he had rushed off in. "I wish I knew, Luna" I told her in a gentle voice, "He called himself...the Midnight Guardian...".

The two of us walked back towards my house, I had somehow been able to return the crystal back to the woman's body and her coloring had returned to her. However, she did not awaken and Luna had told me that she simply needed to let her warmth return to her body. As a result, I had brought her to the local clinic and they took care of her for me. I had told them that I had found her unconscious in the park while on my night jog.

I looked to Luna who was walking beside me, "Luna...what was that?" I asked her.

She turned her eyes to me and tilted her head lightly, "You are referring to that crystal you saw, I presume." I nodded and she looked back toward, before jumped up onto a paper box, looking at me. "That would have been a 'Shinzo Kessho', they are crystalized forms to which come from the dreams and hopes of the owner's heart."

"But...why was that guy after them?" I asked, growing more confused. He had tossed that crystal aside with no regard of the fact it could have broken.

Luna shook her head, "He is not after any Shinzo Kessho, only one in particualiar, the 'Jungin Shinzo Kessho'. It is the most powerful object of existance, capable of creating a whole new world..." Luna looked upon saying that, "Or destroying it".

My eyes widen upon realizing what she meant, it was an ultimate power and that guy wanted it most likely so he could destroy Earth. I narrowed my eyes in focus, seeming to come to a conclusion in my mind, "I won't let that happen. I will stop him from using that for such evil deeds."

Luna looked at me in puzzlement with a tilt of her head before she smiled and nodded, "Of course, I believe in you". I smiled at her and picked her up in my arms.

"Come on, let's go home" I told her, rushing off towards my house. 'I will protect this world no matter what, for I love it with all my heart"

A/N: Wow, that took longer to rewrite than I thought. But I am really happy with this rendition a lot more than my previous version. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. Now, onto Episode 3!
