April 2nd, 2013

"C-caroline…no…you can't die…"
The tremors were now setting in and she knew that her end was near. She never thought that she would die like this, especially not in the Original hybrid's arms. Her chest fell slowly as she exhaled the small amount of air that filled her lungs.
"Caroline! Don't you dare close your eyes!"
However, she was too far gone and his voice didn't reach her. She closed her eyes for the last time of her vampire life…

Three Days Prior

It was like any other day at Mystic Falls, except for the fact that Caroline Forbes' best friend had her emotions turned off. Ever since the Originals walked into the people of Mystic Fall's lives, it has been nothing by hell. The blonde sucked in a deep breath and walked into the local pub to meet up with Stefan to discuss the plans to get Elena's humanity back. With each footstep, the heavy clicking of her boots trailed after her until she found herself sitting across from the youngest Salvatore brother. As she listened to Stefan, she came to the conclusion that he would go to arm's length to get the cure to turn Elena back human. In all honesty, she was jealous of her friend, only because two guys were fighting for her love and affection. Even though Caroline had Tyler in her life so-to-speak, she didn't have anybody else. Well, there was Klaus but she didn't express her feelings for him like she did towards Tyler. How could she show any type of affection towards someone that has done so much wrong in life? Memories of Klaus' actions rushed back instantly and with a shake of her head, she knew she could never give him a chance or her heart. She glanced over to Stefan, who continues to talk about Elena and her whereabouts. Of course she already knew who she would be with, but when Stefan reveals to her that the brunette is New York, her mouth dropped.

"Stefan…you have to be kidding me!" Caroline said, slamming her palms against the table. "She's in New York and let me guess…Damon's idea!"
Stefan drew in a deep breath and then exhaled it out slowly with a nod of his head. "Unfortunately, yes, it was his idea. But Caroline what was I suppose to do? She's out of control and right now, Damon is the only one that understands her."

What he said was true, but how could he trust Damon with Elena? Caroline wrinkled her nose up at the thought of Damon and Elena alone in New York. She could imagine all of the lies that the eldest Salvatore brother told her best friend and for once, she was hoping that Elena would have some sense knocked back into her. Feeling uncomfortable thinking about Elena and Damon together, as a couple, she drummed her fingernails against the chipped table, waiting to hear Stefan's plan. Sadly, she already knew that he was at a loss of words and probably wouldn't come up with an idea until it was too late. As she continued to think about all the possibilities to find the cure, her left eye began to twitch. Too much stress was overwhelming her. It wasn't like she didn't have a lot of planning to do herself. With prom right around the corner, she had to make sure that everything was perfect and then there was graduation; and on top of that, the hunt for the cure for Elena. The throbbing in her left eye didn't cease and she slid her hand over it, applying pressure.

"Well, I have to go for now." she said with a hint of annoyance in her voice. "But if you hear anything from Elena or from Damon, call me."
Stefan gave her a nod followed by a serious look before she stood up and headed back to her vehicle. Crawling behind the wheel, she placed the key into the ignition but didn't crank it. She pulled her door shut and pressed her back against the soft cushion of the driver's seat. What was she going to do? Tyler was out of her life and didn't show any sign of returning to Mystic Falls and all of her friends were searching for the cure for Elena. Then there was the mysterious Silas that could shape shift into any person he chose and at any moment.
"Why does my life have to be a living hell?" she mumbled as she turned the key and drove off, heading towards the school.

Caroline found herself two hours later with loads of work still left to do. After leaving the Grill, she received several phone calls from the one person she hated to hear from…Klaus Mikaelson. She listened to the rigid voicemails and went to his mansion, only to learn that Silas had broken a piece of the white oak stake in his back. She pried around in his back to discover that there was no stake whatsoever, but only another mind game of Silas. Having that experience with Klaus and hearing the words that he wasn't tracking Tyler down, helped ease the hatred she had for the Original hybrid.

The blonde closed her eyes, clearing her mind once again. The last thing she needed was to think of common things between them. How could she compare herself to that monster of a man? She had to focus on the upcoming events, but it would have to wait for another day. The sun was already starting to set and she had to get some rest.

One Day Prior

Caroline was able to finish the preparations for both prom and for graduation. Even though nothing seemed to slow down, she didn't mind it. Without the rest of the group there, Mystic Falls was quite peaceful and she liked it. It reminded her how life used to be when she was human. Nothing seemed to matter except for school, but she soon learned that life was more than just popularity. She drew in a deep breath inward and as she exhaled, she heard someone rapping at her door. With swift movements, she was downstairs and at her door, turning the knob. Her eyebrows shot upward as her icy hues focused on Klaus' face.

"What are you doing here?" She asked, her fingers wrapping around the metal handle. "Don't you have lives to be ruining?"
"Ah come now, love. I thought we were friends?"
"Don't push it…"

She took a few steps back to allow him to enter, still confused about what he truly wanted. Well, she knew what he wanted, but there was no way in hell he was going to have it. She walked over to the couch and plopped down, crossing her legs as her eyes met his.

"So, what do you want? You don't just come here unless you want or need something."
"Well, I thought that since we were starting over, then maybe you would give me the pleasure of taking you out on the town." He said as the corners of his mouth quirked upward, revealing that grin that Caroline came to love.
"I'll tell you what…I'll spend the day with you, but…"she closed her mouth as she raised her index finger, pointing it directly at his chest, "if I don't enjoy myself or if anything changes my mind whatsoever, you'll never get another chance. Agreed?" she didn't give him the opportunity to reply, but the smile across his face told her everything. Without delaying, she grabbed her purse and keys and followed behind him.

Once they got to their location, the blonde arched an eye brow, confusion settling in. Glancing down to her outfit then back up to the amusement park that stood before them, she knew that she was overdress for the occasion. "An amusement park…really. That's your plan?" Klaus took a half-step towards her and took her hand in his and coaxed her to follow him. When they actually stood in line and he paid for their admission fees, she couldn't quite believe it. After all he could compel whoever he wanted, and to actually give up money to be normal meant a lot to her.

Caroline felt different around him lately, but she didn't understand why. Klaus was the same self-centered hybrid as before, but she noticed that he brought out a different side in her. A side that wanted to live outside of Mystic Falls. A side that could venture into the unknown and not worry about anything because she knew that he would be by her side. Again, what a sick and twisted fantasy. Who would ever dream about being with Klaus…besides her.
"Caroline…is something the matter?" his thick accent breaking through her raging thoughts. She shook her head and swallowed hard, "So what's next? The ferris wheel?" He gave her a short nod and gestured her towards the ride. When she overheard him commanding, more like compelling, the operator to only allow them two on the ride and to stop it at the top, the muscles in her stomach churned. She knew that he was up to no good, but she didn't want to stop him.

Just like Klaus demanded the operator to do, the ride stopped at the top with such a view to be seen. It was already dark and the lights of the different rides in the park lit up the surrounding area; and what wasn't lit up by the rides, the stars lit the rest. Her gaze never left the blinking lights as she whispered, "This is so beautiful…"
"I know you are…"Klaus said with a now found confidence. He inched closer to her, easing his hands up her arms, turning her slowly to face him. She met his gaze and for the first time, she seen something there that usually was hidden deep within him. Compassion. He inched closer to her, his face merely inches from her own, before she pressed her mouth to his, falling into him. Getting lost in the moment, she curled her fingers around his hair, tugging at it as he lowered his mouth down to her neck. The warmth of his breath sent warm sensation throughout every nerve in her body; heighten her desire for him even more. When he pulled away, Caroline found herself uncoordinated and her breath ragged.

She let out a soft whimper of rejection, but was soon acknowledge by Klaus' arm wrapping around her shoulders. "How about we go for a little dinner?" He offered as the ferris wheel finished its last clockwise turn and the doors open on the exit ramp. "You know I don't feed on humans…" He placed an index finger against her pink lips and gave her a cocky smirk. "I know, I meant go to that pub of yours in Mystic Falls and have a drink or two." She gave him a nod followed with a smile before he grabbed her hand and speeded their way to the Grill.

Inside, he guided her to a vacant booth and helped her down, and then slid in the seat in front of her. Once the server came to get their drink orders, he gave her a reassuring smile that he was really trying. "You know, I didn't expect to see this side from you. It's quite nice…so what do you want?" "Oh, come now Caroline, do you really think that little of me? Can't I just want to spend a little quality time with such a beauty? Do let me engross for a little while longer."

If it was one thing Caroline would give Klaus props for, it would have to be his way with words. She opened her mouth to say something but closed it quickly when her phone ranged. She sucked in a deep breath and exhaled it in a smooth motion as she glanced at the person who was call. Stefan. "Excuse me, for one second. I have to take this." She uttered as she scooted out of the booth and walked outside, answering her phone. "Hello Stefan?"

"Caroline, I didn't think you was going to answer."
"Yeah…so what's going on? Anything on Elena?"
"In so many words. She's working with Rebekah, of all people, to track down Katherine." His voice echoed full of annoyance. "Damon and I are going over to Katherine's place to see if we can find anything about the location of the cure."
"Okay, just be careful around her. You know how she is. Well, I have to go. I have some things to tend to. Just let me know what you find out."

She closed her phone and slid it back into her purse, heading back inside the restaurant. Making her way over to the table, she was confused that Klaus was no longer there. Where did he get to? She took a seat and waited for a few minutes however still no Klaus. The server walked back over to the table to collect the two drinks when Caroline cleared her throat. "Excuse ma'am, but do you know where the guy I was sitting with went?" "He left about half a minute after you went outside." "Oh, is that so." Oh he was going to pay for this. She shove her hand inside her purse and fumbled over the cash until she had enough money for the check and threw it down on the table before speeding off to get her car.

Thirty minutes later, Caroline pulled up in front of Klaus' mansion and walked up the steps to the front door, bamming against it. With each hit, her anger boiled in her gut even more. Shortly after five more hits, Klaus answered the door with a surprised expression on his face. "Well Caroline, what a surprise to see you here. Normally I'm the one that does the stopping by."
"Save it Klaus. How dare you leave me at the Grill!? After giving you chance and going out on a…whatever that was, you then have enough gall to leave me!"
"Love, what are you talking about?" the Original asked confusingly. "I would never…"
"Hey what's going on?"
Caroline flicked her enraged eyes from Klaus to the brunette that was now standing behind him. "You have to be kidding me! You left me for her!" She was beyond pissed now and wasn't able to keep her emotions hidden anymore. He left her so he could return home to Hayley.
"Caroline, would you be so kind to explain to me what you are talking about!?" Klaus snapped, his patience slipping away.
"I can't believe that I was a stupid enough to give you a chance to take me out and even more of a jackass to let you kiss me! You don't ever have to worry about me again. I hope you're happy with Ms. Bitch over there." Without giving him a chance to speak, she turned around and stomped back to her car. Hopping behind the driver's seat, she brought the engine to life and squalled tires all the way home.

April 2nd, 2013

The next morning wasn't any better. After the twenty-three phone calls from Klaus and hundreds of text messages, she still felt exhausted. She rose up and stretched before swinging her legs over her bed, walking to bathroom. Hopping into the shower, she braced her back against the shower wall, allowing the water to beat against her flesh. It gave her enough time to think about the events of the day before however, nothing seemed to make it any easier. "Damn him…"she mumbled turning the water off and then jumped out of the shower. Caroline sighed heavily and glanced at her appearance in the mirror touching her lips, remembering his kiss. A small smile turned the corners of her mouth upward however it soon fell when she thought about Hayley. She exited the bathroom and grabbed a pair of blue jeans along with a white laced blouse to change into. Once changed, she snatched up her phone and purse before heading out to the school for a last minute check-up on the blueprints of both prom and graduation. She needed something to get her mind off of the Original Dick and his Ms. Bitch before she lost her sanity. She pulled up at the school only to see the one person that she despised. Hayley.

"Don't you have any other place to be, but here?" Caroline rasped as she walked toward the entrance of the school.
"Don't you have anything else to do, but be a bitch?"
The blonde narrowed her eyes as she clinched the straps of her purse tighter in her palms. She wanted to close the space between them and gouged her eyes out of their sockets and then break her neck, but she didn't want to make a scene. She still had to remain calm and dance around everyone until this damn cure was found. Stefan forewarned her about any violent behavior towards Klaus or his minions at least for the time being. Unfortunately that included Hayley. She could swallow her pride and ignore the problem. Flipping her body around, Caroline walked to the front entrance of the school; however a huge social blow to the gut stopped her.

"Aw, running away to prepare for a dance, huh? Guess that's all you're good at. That's probably why Klaus chose me over you." Hayley hissed taking a half-step forward. "I don't really see what's so important about you anyway. Just another dumb blonde walking the streets."
The blood in Caroline's veins began to boil from the brunette's words but continue to bit her tongue. Every nerve synapses trigged her brain to turn around and face the wolf behind her, but Stefan's words echoed through her skill. "Deep breaths, Caroline. Just take deep breaths and keep walking." She mumbled to herself as her hand reached for the metal knob.

"I guess that's why both Klaus and Tyler asked me to get into their beds."
The blonde's patience finally cracked and she spun her torso around and lunged for Hayley. Both hands ready to rip her throat out, but it was too late.

Caroline coughed up blood as her blue hues fell to the wooden stake lodged underneath her sternum. With swift movements, she forced her hands upwards, wrapping them around the wood however, failed to pull it out because Hayley sank her teeth into the young vampire's flesh. A horrid scream escaped her lips as the brunette buried her teeth deeper into her neck. Whoever said that vampires were the only supernatural beings that attacked at the neck was a complete and utter liar. When the wolf jerked her head away, a gaping hole was left in Caroline's neck. Blood oozed down on to her shoulder, the unbearable pain in both wound areas throbbed rhythmically. The convolutions took control of her body as the werewolf venom spread throughout her veins, her heart slowing down. She found herself lying on the ground in her own pool of blood with Hayley nowhere in sight. Was this how she was going to die? Alone in her own blood? What a horrible death…sad really. The once bright sky was now dark from the rain clouds drifting over the town and with that her breath became slow and rigid. It was only mere moments before she would be joining the other side along with her father and all of the other supernatural beings that were killed over the years.

"Caroline…"a male voice roared as it approached her. It was filled with concern and a hint of love, but it no longer meant anything to the dying blonde. "W-what happened to you? Who did this to you?" His eyes quickly looked over her bloody body but before he could say anything, she cut him off.
"I-it doesn't matter, K-klaus. Just finish me off, p-please." She hated to beg but her pain was becoming worse and she didn't want to die like this. She wanted to be pain-free and herself, not a bloody, air-gasping vampire. "I can't do that." He sank his fangs into his forearm, allowing the blood to flow more easily upon the surface and pushed his arm towards her mouth. "Drink."
Her eyes were no longer the bright blue; they were dim like a dimmed light, fading away. She tilted her head away from his arm, hiding her mouth from him. "I will regret not giving you a proper second chance. If only we lived in a different time, then maybe we could have-"

The blonde gasped for her next few breaths of air as the Original hybrid's emotionless face soften.

Sometime in 1492

A ray of sunlight peaked through the dark clouds and beamed against the young blonde's pallor face. Her skin was so flawless, beautiful even; however, it lacked the once red cheeks. With a stretch, she leaned forward, hands cuffed together as she took a deep breath inward, her eyes blinking quickly. Looking from side to side she gathered her surroundings before getting to her feet. A gentle breeze blew her long silk gown upward revealing her undergarments for a few seconds before she smacked her hands against the soft fabric. "Why am I in a gown?" She questioned as her fingertips smoothed against the material. "Where's…" She jerked both hands up and seized her head trying to subside the constant pain that was pulsating throughout her skull. Releasing her head from her grasp, she glanced down trying to piece two and two together. Her attire consisted of a Renaissance gown with funnel sleeves. Caroline's thoughts were distracted from the sound of tapping against cobblestone approaching. Narrowing her eyes slightly, she followed the field to the cobblestone streets and saw a man riding on a light brown horse. The man looked to be in his mid-forties and was coming her way. He pulled the reins on the horse just a foot away from her and extended his hand out towards her. "Let's go. You're two possible suitors are waiting for you."

"I'm not going anywhere with you. You must have me confused with someone else." Caroline snapped, curling her fingers into her palms, forming strong fists.
"Excuse me young lady?" The man barked, his blue hues now narrowed. "Who do you think you are talking to? As your father…"
"Father? What the hell are you talking about?!"
"Don't use that tone of voice with me. Caroline, what's gotten into you? Disrespecting your flesh and blood like that." He said with sigh. Caroline could tell that his patience was wearing thin but she knew that something was wrong here. "You're not my father."
"Just because you hated the idea of an arrange marriage, don't pretend that I'm not your father. Just look at that beautiful pendent that your mother and I gave you for your birthday."

Caroline raised her hands up to her chest and took hold of the gold locket and opened it up. Inside was a picture of a blond hair woman and the same man before her with the saying, we will always love you, our precious daughter, Caroline. "H-how can this be…" she mumbled to herself and then dropped the pendent, her eyes meeting the man before her. "You really are my father…but why don't I remember you."
"It's because my dear daughter, that you were attacked last year by some type of wolf. Ever since, your mind has been a bit cloudy." The man explained extending his hand once again. "So please, take my hand, we have to meet your two suitors."

Caroline swallowed hard and extended her hand into his and swung her leg around the horse. As the animal began to trot off, she wrapped her arms around the man's waist. She was still in denial about the whole situation, but for the time being she would agree to most things. "So these suitors…who are they?"
The man refused to answer as he directed the horse toward their location. The reminder of the trip was silent, although it did give her time to think. She couldn't remember anything before the time she woke up in the field. No matter how hard she tried she couldn't remember a damn thing. It frustrated her and now she was on her way to meet her two suitors. Of course she would deny both of them, but she had to make sure to do it in a ladylike manor.

After what seemed like an hour ride, Caroline jumped off of the horse and planted the soles of her feet in the soft ground as her father did the same. She was escorted inside and saw the two men that would ask her hand in marriage. The first one had short dark blonde hair and was barely eighteen while the other had long hair and appeared to be around twenty or twenty-two. Her lips formed a thing straight line as she walked beside the man that called himself her father, but showed no happiness about meeting the two guys. There was no way in hell that she was going to agree to marry either of these bozos even if she had to kick both of them between the legs. One of the men opened his mouth but closed it shortly after opening because of Caroline interrupting.

"Excuse me for my rudeness, but I cannot allow myself to be spoken for by either of you fine men. I cannot let my father arrange a marriage for me, when I believe otherwise. So, I do bid you adieu." She inched her fingers down the length of her gown and hiked it up so she could walk away. With each step she could hear the pounding of footsteps following her. Glancing over her shoulder, she saw her father chasing after her, his walking stick in hand. Gripping the tail of her gown tighter in her palms, she forced the muscles in her legs to sprint, hoping she could outrun him. She continue to run, her eyes focus on the path straight ahead of her until she fell down, letting a loud, high pitched scream escaping her mouth. Drawing her feet up underneath her just knowing that she would be forced to return back to those lurkers.

Caroline straightened her back and peeked over her shoulder noticing that no one was there. Quickly getting to her feet to retreat, she was stopped by a mountain of a man. She took a half-step backwards, her fingers curling around the off-white lace that wrapped around her torso as she bit down on her bottom lip. He took two steps towards her, stepping out of the shadows, revealing a handsome face. He was dressed as a nobleman with brown locks flowing down to his shoulders. He was graceful, but something was different about him…strange and yet intriguing.
"W-who are you?" she stammered dropping her hands down to her sides. "If you come any closer, I'll scream."
"There's no need for that, love." He said with a thick accent. "I'm only here to make sure that you are alright."

"Yes. Now go!"
He tilted his head to the side and the corners of his mouth quirked upward but then fall. "You're injured." He rushed to her and grabbed her hand. She snatched her hand from the handsome stranger and pressed it to her gown. "It's only bl-" Before she could finish he ripped a piece of his vest off and wrapped it around her hand, applying small amounts of pressure. "There. You must be new here. I'm Niklaus Mikaelson."

Caroline smiled softly and introduced herself, "My name is Caroline. Caroline Forbes. It's nice to meet you, Niklaus." It was strange meeting him especially during the circumstances and she enjoyed it. His smirked returned back to his handsome face as he said, "I know this is all of a sudden, but there is a get together later that my family's throwing and I was wondering if you would like to come. See what England has to offer." The blonde thought about it for a few seconds then agreed. Niklaus walked away, turning around from time to time looking back at her that same smile upon his lips until he was no longer in sight. Caroline was confused about most things, but one thing was for sure, something was different about herself and she wasn't quite sure what.

What will happen to Caroline when she attends the Mikaelsons get together?

Also, what does this mean for her and Klaus?
