After waking up next to Cato, we both head out to start hunting. Neither of us were able to salvage much food from the remains. Hunting small animals is much harder for Cato with his long sword than for me, with my small, quick knives. However, we both decide that all we should eat is meat because we aren't sure which berries are safe to eat. I kill a squirrel and hand it to Cato.
"Maybe we should try some of these berries," I tell him.
"We don't know which are safe. We could die," he responds. I nod, but it seems stupid to just eat this meat.
"There has to be something that we remember from the test," I finish, heading off to a couple of bushes with fruit hanging from the leaves. There are no good ones though, just nightlock anyway. By the time I get back, Cato has finished with the squirrel.
"Nothing?" He asks. I shake my head no.
"I would cook this thing now, inside the cave so no one sees the fire," I tell him. He agrees and we begin to make the fire. As the fire blazes, a sliver flick waves by outside.
"Hold on," I walk out of the cave and snatch it up, our first parachute. Inside contains a bowl of fruit and cheese, something other to eat than the meat. "We got food!" I tell Cato, running back inside the cave. He takes the package from my hands and puts it into his pack immediately, in case we need to make a run for it. After we have finished cooking the squirrel, he hands me some of the meat and we have our lunch. Time seems to go by quicker and before we know it, the darkness is settling in. We go through our packs, checking with each other what we have. Between us, we both have a good number of weapons.
"Congratulations tributes!" Claudius says from above. We both move closer to the mouth of the cave to listen better. This could be the feast. One of us could be winning soon. One. "There has been a rule change. Both tributes from the same district will be declared victors if they are they last two alive. Both tributes from the same district will be declared victors if they are the last two alive. Thank you," and then he clicks off.
I slowly turn to look at Cato's expression, turning from pure confusion to happiness.
"We can both win. We won't have to kill each other," I say, testing it out. Surely, this is meant for Fire Girl and Lover Boy, but we will happily take the opportunity away from them.
"We can both be victors," he says, wrapping me in his arms.
"Okay, we are going to need a plan of attack. How are we getting rid of the rest of them?" I ask him, hurrying back into the cave.
"5 is easy, no threat," I start.
"Lover Boy is practically dead already."
"That leaves us with Fire Girl and 11."
"I say attack 11 at night, in his sleep. He's in the corn fields, so he will be right amongst the grasses. Just get it over with," he says. I nod, since it was my idea too.
"Fire Girl. I've wanted to kill her since forever. She's only got her stupid arrows, if we get her up close, we could have a fun time with that," I say.
"But, whoever kills her, we have to make it big, show everyone Fire Girl's going down hard." Cato says.
"Exactly."
It's already dark and since we have the rest of the tributes' deaths planned, we go out of the cave and move to another location, closer to the water but so we are covered by trees and a rock formation. We sleep there, vowing to get another out of our way the next day. We wake up early, head our breakfast and then work more on fixing up our weapons, sharping all their points. Claudius comes over the arena with another announcement, breaking both of our work.
"Tributes, you are invited to this year's feast! Now hold on. Some of you may already be declining my invitation. But this is no ordinary feast. Each of you needs something desperately. Each of you will find that something in a backpack, marked with your district number, at the Cornucopia at dawn. Think hard about refusing to show up. For some of you, this will be your last chance," he says. Then it's over.
"We're going," I tell him and he nods.
"How are we going to do this?" He asks.
"I'll get the pack, I'm faster and I have shorter range weapons. You stand around, waiting for anyone else, Foxface, Thresh, whoever shows up, which will probably be everyone except Peeta because we both know he can't move. Hopefully, I'll get one at the top with our pack, you get another, and we work together on the third. Then, Marvel already tracked Peeta down, so we kill him. Then, we are victors." I explain to him.
"Then, we are victors," he repeats. "Tomorrow, we could be out of here, alive."
"No, Cato. Tomorrow, we will be out of here alive."
Well, we all know what next chapter is, the Feast :( and the last chapter of Clove's life. I have decided to do one AU chapter if they had both won. The last chapter will be on June 12 and the AU on June 13, so that will be it. I'm probably going to be a wreck writing next chapter, I was writing this one and it isn't even the end. Thank you all for reading!
Also, if you read Finnick, that story will be ending June 23, with an AU chapter on the 24th. That story I've been writing for almost a year and a half, so it being over is going to be very sad for me.
However, I do have some good news! Since both of my ongoing stories are ending, I obviously am going to be getting some new stories together! The first one is something I've never done before, so I'm very excited! It will be in the Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare, one of my favorite series! Since I'm not sure if you all have read that series (which you really should do), that summary will be on my profile page. My second story I will let you vote on. On my profile page, I have a poll up for which character you would like to see me do a "Life and Story of..." on. So, please go vote on that!
Thanks for reading and make sure to review!
