Bound To You

Chapter 16:

Damon's whole body was tense as he opens the door.

"Damon?" I ask.

"Oh my god." I hear him whisper almost too quiet for me to hear.

"Hello Damon."

'Who the hell is this?'

There standing in front of Damon was a beautiful blonde.

The first thing I realized about her was she was nothing like any of the other girls I've seen around Damon. By that I mean she wasn't a slut. She stood there in a mid-thigh white sundress and a pair of black cowboy boots. Everything about her screamed sweet and innocent.

"It's been a long time Damon," she said with a small smile.

"Yeah it has." he says almost in awe.

"Damon?" I ask breaking the intense staring contest between them.

"Oh. Elena," Damon said putting his stiff arm around my waist, "this is Sara. She's an old friend of mine from back when I lived in LA."

"It's nice to meet you Elena." Sara says sticking her hand out for me to shake.

"Same here." I say trying to push back the ball of dread in my stomach. 'Talk about ruining a morning.'

"So what brings you to Mystic Falls?" Damon asks as make our way into the parlor. I immediately walk over to the drinking cart and pour myself a glass of bourbon, hoping with each swallow the dread would leave my body. It doesn't.

"What I can't visit an old friend?" Sara asks raising one of her perfect eyebrows.

I make my way over to sit beside Damon, playing with the crystal tumbler in my hands.

"Well you can but it's been almost 30 years."

I can't help but start choking on the bourbon at Damon's comment. '30 years? She doesn't look a day over 20.'

"Wait. Are you-?"

"I'm not a vampire." Sara says with a smile.

"Then what are you?" I ask.

"I'm a witch."

"Oh." I say a little surprised.

"I know it's surprising. A witch being friends with a vampire, oh the shame." She says mockingly, but smiled at my embarrassment.

"So how did you and Damon meet?" I asked trying to keep the friendly tone in my voice.

"He tried to eat me," she says with a laugh.

"Welcome to the club." I say unable to hold back a smile.

"Well how about we don't go down the list of girlfriends I tried to eat list and get to the part where you tell me why your actually here." Damon says losing his patience.

At the word girlfriend, the pit in my stomach grew larger.

"Still as impatient as you were 30 years ago." she rolls her eyes. "What makes you believe I have a hidden agenda?"

"You're a witch. Witches always have a hidden agenda." Damon says with a smirk on his beautiful face. 'God, that face. Elena focus!'

"Fine." Sara says with an exasperated sigh, "I heard through the supernatural grape-vine, that you fell in love with the doppelganger."

"Eh. Wrong answer. What's the real reason you're here. You seem to forget I know you. I know how you think, how you act, what makes you tick. Me falling in love isn't enough of a reason for you to show up after 30 years. So what's the real reason?"

"I know about the spell," she says after a minute.

Damon's whole face seemed to change at her comment, "You know about the spell," he slowly says trying to comprehend what she was saying. "And?"

"I came to help Damon." Sara says pinching the bridge of her nose, "Look I know we didn't end on a good foot the last time we saw each other, but you know I can do this." she says in a pleading tone.

"What is she talking about Damon?" I ask as I watch him forcefully run his fingers through his hair.

"Sara's lineage leads back 1000 years ago. She's a part of the most powerful bloodline of witches." Damon turns to look at me, "The original witch bloodline."

"Wait. So does that mean-?"

"She's related to the Original family."

"But how is that possible?"

"I'm a distant cousin of the Originals." Sara says watching for my reaction, "Ester had a sister growing up, she like her sister was also a very powerful. She died giving birth to a daughter. The death of her sister is what pushed Ester to move to the new world with her family, not knowing that she was an aunt. Her niece though, was taken in by a family of witch's with instructions to raise her as their own, to raise her as the powerful witch she was meant to be."

"Do the Originals know about you?" I ask very curious.

"No." Sara's face was completely emotionless, "And they are not going to. That family uses their own until they are no longer useful or tolerable."

"So," Damon says taking the glass of bourbon from my hands and taking a sip, "How exactly do you plan on lifting a spell, that the witch who put it on us, can't even lift."

"Well for starters your witch isn't as powerful as me-"

Damon interrupts her, "It was a Bennett witch, who casted the spell."

I watch as a look of amazement flash across her face, "Impressive. But how come she can't undo the spell? She should be able to do it easily?" she says crinkling her eyebrows.

"That's the problem." Damon says putting his arm around the back of the couch, pointing the tumbler towards her, "Someone is preventing her from lifting it. And to top it all off they were able to activate all the little side effects that our witch just happened to look over."

"Oh," she says surprise evident in her voice. "How about this," she says checking the time on her phone, "I will look over my Grimoires, and see if there is anything in it about this spell and if there is some other way to reverse it." Sara said as she grabbed her purse off the floor and started to stand, "I'll come back tomorrow and let you know what I found. Oh," she said she stood just outside the threshold, "do you happen to have your witch's Grimoire? It could help with my research."

"Yeah no problem," I say as I take the leather-bound book from my purse and hand it to her, "knock yourself out." I smile her.

"Thanks," she surprises me by pulling me into a hug, "It was so nice to meet you Elena."

"You too." I smile back at her.

She leaves after giving Damon a hug goodbye-causing the ball of dread to remind me that it's still there, but also leaving me with a little hope.

"Do you think she can do it?" I ask Damon as we sat back on the couch in front of the fire, "Do you think she's powerful enough?" I say snuggling into his hard chest.

"I don't know." Damon whispers as he pulls me closer to his chest, "I really don't know."
