Chapter 16
A do over
Inuyasha's POV
I was in a haze, one that I could not find my way out of. I had no control over my body, but I was able to see everything that happened. The worst feeling was that I attacked
Kagome. It made me sick to my stomach. I had to watch as my demon attacked the ones that I love. The worst part being was that I made out with Kikyo. I wish that image could
just disappear. I tried over and over again to gain control over my body, but nothing worked. The time had come, where Kikyo would finally bring forth the sacred object. I fought and
to gain back control of my body, for I knew what was going to happen.
If Kikyo was to bring force that object Kagome had to die. There was no way in hell I was going to let that happen. I've lost her once before, I will not lose her again. When Kikyo
ordered me to fight off Sesshomaru I knew I had to come up with something in order to gain control over my body, and fast. I was so caught up in the fight I had not noticed what
Kikyo was up to. Sesshomaru had just sent me flying. As I crouched on the ground a scent assaulted my nose. It was blood… Kagome's blood. My demon paid no attention to it, but
my half demon side did. Once the smell of Kagome's blood reached within me, my half demons instincts were to go to protect my mate. With my demon control of my body the smell of
blood fueled his desire to kill all the more. The two sides fought within me to gain control over my body.
Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Sesshomaru run towards the altar. I was unable to move to go protect Kikyo as my demon demanded my body to do; it had seemed that my half
demon side was slowly gaining back control of my body. I dropped to my knees suddenly overcome with this pain within my head. I grabbed my head, in attempts to ease the pain.
Light danced before my eyes, it made me dizzy just looking at it. The light started to grow, soon it became blinding. I tried to peer within the light, as I squinted I noticed a shadow
within the light.
The shadow grew larger until it took the shadow of a woman figure. The details soon came in, allowing me to full see this woman, the light behind her faded allowing me to open
both my eyes. "Inuyasha, you have been freed of the grasp Kikyo has on you." The woman said. "Who are you?" I asked. Her appearance looked so familiar; I just could not put my
finger on who she was. "I am Midoriko; I am the creator of the Jewel of four souls." Although her lips did not move I could hear her voice within my head. "You must stop Kikyo before
she is able to bring forth the object within your son Kovin." Midoriko said. "How can I stop her?" I asked. Midoriko held out her hands in front of her, and then started to chant. A light
appeared around her hands growing bigger; when the light faded it revealed a dagger. "You must be the one to end Kikyo's life. You must do that with this dagger." I hesitantly held
my hand out to take the dagger. As my fingers grazed the tip of the dagger, this weird sensation rocked through me, shocking me to the core. I immediately snatched my hand back.
"Wh…what was that?" I stuttered. "Both mine and Kagome's spirits have been fused with this dagger, leaving it with the power to destroy Kikyo." My eyes winded at the mention of
Kagome's name. "What's going to happen to Kagome, She isn't dead is she?" I asked all panicked. Midoriko face fell. When I saw her face all my own heart felt like I had been ripped
into two. "You must hurry, for the time to sacrifice your son draws near." Midoriko then vanished within the light. "I love you Inuyasha." I heard a voice whisper in my mind, that
voice, it belonged to Kagome. No, no she cannot be dead. Tears sprang to my eyes. Before the last of the light faded I yelled out. "You promised to stay with me." Once the light
faded I fell to my knees, tears in my eyes. No, I failed Kagome. I let her die. I failed her just as I failed Kikyo those years ago. I was so wrapped up in my pity session, feeling horrible
that I had no noticed Kikyo was about to sacrifice Kovin. Kovin started screaming as Kikyo picked him up, my head snapped up at the sound.
I quickly got to my feet and ran towards the altar. On my way I passed Sesshomaru whom was busy battling a demon. I had my sight set on Kikyo. There was no way I was going to
let her sacrifice Kovin. I charged at Kikyo. The anger within me boiling to the top, she was going to pay for what she has done. Kikyo looked up as I crossed the over the barrier.
"Inuyasha, come it is time." Kikyo said. I smirked; she had not realized yet that I'm not under her control anymore. I made sure to keep my head down, so Kikyo could not see my
face. As I walked closer to her, I got the dagger from within my robe then slide it into my hand, having my sleeve covering it. I stopped in front of Kikyo then slowly looked up. I was
about to attack when a spear went through my stomach. I fell to the ground holding my stomach. "Foolish half-breed, did you really think you can defeat me?" Kikyo hissed.
Kikyo walked over to my grabbed my hair and pulled, exposing my neck. She placed a dagger on the skin of my neck, pressing down, drawing blood. "Do you really want to die
Inuyasha? I could end your life, and then you could join that bitch Kagome in hell. Or I could spare your life and have you as my pet." Kikyo said as she looked me in the eye. I could
see that she meant every word she said. "Go to hell." I spat. "Wrong decision Inuyasha." Kikyo hissed. Kikyo's eyes grew colder, an evil aura around her started to pour out from
within her body. It blazed around her, making her look like a demon from the pits of hell. Kikyo started to press the blade of the dagger tighter against my neck, drawing more blood.
My eyes went to the altar where Kagome's body lay. Beside her was Kovin who was screaming and crying. Almost as if he was crying over the death of his mom. The sight of my son
crying made something snapped within me. I had to protect my family. That was the male's duty. I looked up to Kikyo with such hatred.
I pulled the spear out from within my stomach. I then plunged it into Kikyo stomach. Kikyo screamed let go of my hair and stumbled backwards. I quickly got to my feet. I drew
Tessaiga from its sheath. "You will pay with your life." Kikyo said as she drew forth her own weapon. I couldn't help but snicker. "You've been sending death threat for a while now
Kikyo, but here I am still alive." I said. I had the urge to do that thing Kagome taught me to do, where you pretend to looking at your nails to make the other person mad. Kikyo
charged at me, her sword a blaze with the evil from within her. She swung at me, but I was able to dodge it. I counter attacked by swinging my sword at her legs in hopes to get her
off balance for me to plunge the dagger in her heart. But no such luck back, she stayed upright. I had no to come up with something.
An idea came to me. "Sesshomaru I need your help." I yelled out. I never thought I would ever say that to Sesshomaru. A moment later Sesshomaru appeared by my side. "Keep her
busy." I told him. Sesshomaru attacked Kikyo, I ran off in the direction of Sango and Miroku, who were still fighting off the demons. I quickly got rid of the rest of them. "Guys I need
your help." I asked them. Sango and Miroku looked to me. I wasn't in my full demon, so they knew I was back to my normal self. "What do you need?" Miroku asked. I looked to him.
"I need you to capture Kikyo and me in one of your holding sutras." I told him. Miroku nodded he went into his rob and pulled out the sutras. He held it in my hand and chanted then
placed one on me. "Get this on Kikyo then it will hold." Miroku told me. I nodded then took the sutra then went back to the fight.
I snuck up behind Kikyo and threw the sutra on her back. I felt the spell hold immediately. I got the dagger from in rob the walked towards Kikyo. Kikyo looked to me all wide eyes,
and with fear in her eyes. "Inuyasha don't do this. Please." Kikyo pleaded. "I remember Kagome saying the same thing before you killed her." I hissed. I held up the dagger. "This is
the end for you Kikyo. Go back to the dead, where you belong." I said as I plunged the dagger in her heart. Kikyo let out a blood curling scream then fell to the ground. Her body
turned to dust then blew away. "I'm sorry." I sent a small whisper to the wind that carried away her ashes. I turned away from the spot where Kikyo once laid then ran over to the
altar.
I grasp Kagome's hand. It was icy cold. It was true then, she was dead. Tears had started too pooled in my eyes. "No, Kagome don't leave me. We have a family now. I need you,
we need you." I sobbed. I looked over to Kovin who had tears in his eyes; I picked him up and held him close to me. The others joined us, Sango crying on Miroku. Miroku himself had
some tears in his eyes. Sesshomaru stepped closer and drew Tenseiga from its sheath. He held it out in front of Kagome and closed his eyes. I've seen him do this before. He would
slice the demon and then the person would come back from the dead. But nothing happened. Sesshomaru opened his eyes.
"Tenseiga cannot bring her back." Sesshomaru said. "What?" I gasped. Tenseiga was my only hope to bring Kagome back to me. I was able to lose it when a light appeared over
Kagome's body. It grew larger; we had to cover our eyes from the blinding light. I held Kovin closer, to protect his eyes. The light vanished. I had to blink a few times to get my full
sight back. I looked to the altar. Kagome's body was gone, leaving the pool of blood behind. I stepped closer to the altar praying that this was just a trick my mind was playing on
me. It wasn't a trick Kagome was really gone. I feel to my knees. "No, Kagome come back." I cried. Kovin started screaming, I hugged him closer to try to sooth him. Nothing worked
so I cried along with him. I cried over the lost life of my loved one, my mate, my friend, my Kagome.
