Chapter 19
Inuyasha's POV
I'm forever longing you
Five years later…
"You can't hide from me Kovin, I will find you." I yelled out into the forest, where my son Kovin was currently hiding from me. Shippo had taught Kovin how to play hide and go seek,
which now is what Kovin ever wants to play. The breeze decided to blew my way, so I lifted my face to it; I was able to detect a hint of Kovin's sent. I took off in the direction the
wind came from; I stopped in a clearing, having noticed that Kovin's scent was a little stronger here. Kaede had noticed that Kovin seemed to posses some spiritual power, most
likely inheriting them from his mom. Kaede had decided to start showing him how to use his powers; the most helpful one to him was masking himself from people, which now he
always uses when we play hide and seek. Kovin was not a master at it; he was pretty good but still had a long way to go, which helped me when we were playing.
I spun around in the clearing, trying to see if I could spot him, I was about to leave when I noticed the tree off the right of me, the leaves were being moved, and not by the wind. I
smirked, knowing that I had found him. I didn't want him knowing that I found him yet so I took off running in the other direction. I turned around, and started back but I veered to
my right, wanting to jump up behind him. I made sure to make no noise as I slowly walked up behind the tree. I could see some black within the green leaves; Kovin was hiding in
that tree. I jumped up onto the tree branch, Kovin still had not noticed me, and I quietly snuck up behind him. I threw my arms around him and lifted him up in the air. "Hey!" Kovin
squeaked. "I told you that you couldn't hide from me." I said as I squeezed Kovin tighter to my chest.
"Daddy, let me go." Kovin said as he tried to wiggle out from my grasp. "I got a better idea." I said I then put him on top of my shoulder; Kovin automatically wrapped his arms
around my head, he knew to hold on tight. "You ready?" I asked. "Ya ya!" Kovin squealed. I crouched down low and sprang from the tree, bouncing from tree to tree. Kovin was
laughing the whole time, it felt nice to hear my son laugh, and just being with him was the best. I landed in a clearing and set down on the ground. Kovin starting jumping up and
down with his arms stretched out. "Again, daddy, again." Kovin said. I kneeled down so I was his level. "We'll do that again later, but right now we have to go to Aunt Sango's and
uncle Miroku's home for dinner." I said to him. "I can play with Amaya, Mika, and Yuji?" Kovin's who face lit up. "Yeah you can." Kovin turned around and started to walk back towards
the village, clapping and singing the whole way back. I walked a few steps behind, just watching Kovin. He was everything I could ever ask for, a great son.
As Kovin grew older he started to notice that the other families in the village had a mom and dad looking after the children. As we lay in our hut last night, Kovin asked the question I
wish he never would. "Daddy, why don't I have a mommy?" I couldn't help the tears that sprang in my eyes, how was I going to explain that Kagome was dead and that it was my
entire fault? That I feel in love with the wrong person way back then and only to have her rip this family apart. Kovin kept staring at me; he had no intention to forget about this
conversation. "Your mommy is with us in here." I said as I pointed to his heart. Kovin looked down to his heart then back up at me. "Why can't I see her?" He asked. "That's because
Kagome is up with the stars, waiting for us to join her one day." I replied. I wiped my eyes; the tears were threatening to spill over. "I wish I could see her." Kovin said as he looked
out the window and up at the stars. "Me too, Kovin me too." I whispered.
I was brought back to the present when Kovin called out to me. "Come on daddy, I want to play." Kovin yelled back at me. I chuckled to myself and hurried after Kovin. "Hello
Inuyasha, Kovin." Sango greeted us as we got closer to the hut; she was outside watching the children play. "Hi Aunty Sango." Kovin greeted back. I had made sure that Kovin was
polite to everyone; I thought that would be the best way for them to accept him. If he had a temper like me, I don't think we would be living in the village. "Daddy, I'm going to go
play." Kovin told me. "Okay, stay close so I can keep an eye on you." I yelled to him as he ran towards the group of kids playing by the forest. I went and sat down on the bench just
outside the hut. "How are you doing Inuyasha?" Sango asked as she sat down beside me.
I sighed. "Kovin asked about Kagome last night." I told her. I heard Sango's sharp intake of breath, she raised a shaky hand to her chest, over her heart. "What did you say?" She
asked weary. "I...I didn't know what to say… I told him that she was in our hearts and that she was waiting for us up in the stars." I told her, I gazed up to the sky, picturing
Kagome. "Did he say anything?" Sango asked. I shook my head. Sango placed a hand on my shoulder. "It'll be alright Inuyasha." Sango said to me. I whipped my head around to
her. "No it won't… Kagome is dead … it's my fault… She is never coming back." I said through sobs. I hadn't even noticed that I was crying. Sango placed her arms around my
shoulders and drew me in a hug. "I know Inuyasha. It's okay to cry." Sango whispered in my ear.
I hadn't had a break down like this in a while. Sango stayed with me, as I cried. "Daddy, why are you crying?" I heard Kovin ask. I pulled up from Sango and faced my son. "I miss
mommy." I told him. Kovin ran over and threw his arms around me. "Don't cry daddy, mommy will come back to us." I didn't have the heart to tell him that Kagome was not going to
come back. I wrapped my arms around him and hugged him close to me. "I love you Kovin." I whispered to him. "I love you too daddy." Kovin replied. "Why don't you come on in and
we'll have dinner." Sango suggested. Kovin was quick to agree to that, I let go of him, and got up from the bench. After dinner Kovin started to fall asleep, I picked him up from the
floor thanked Miroku and Sango for dinner and bid them a goodnight. I carried Kovin back to our hut carefully.
Once I got inside I placed him down on his futon, I murmured goodnight and kissed him forehead. "I love you Kovin." I said to his sleeping form. Kovin started to shift him his sleep.
"Mommy come home." I heard Kovin say in his sleep. I turned my back to start a fire. As I gathered the fire wood the hut became a glow with a bright light. I turned around trying to
find the source of where that light was going from. I looked back to where the futons lay. The light was coming from Kovin. My eyes winded. What was going on? This light was pure,
like the glow Kagome gave off, the light then faded, leaving us in the dark. Was it Kagome? Did she send down her spirit to help Kovin? I sat down beside Kovin and rubbed my hand
gently over his arm. It was a way to sooth me, my wind was whirling. "Kagome, I wish you were here." I whispered as the breeze came alive around me, carrying with it the words
that I wish could come true.
