Hello all, I'm sorry for the short chapter and the very long time I've made you wait for a new one! I've just moved house, started at university, lost my boyfriend of 4 years and am having quite a tough time at the moment, but I really hope you enjoy this chapter, and I'll get the next one up as soon as I can. X
Jessie's POV
I awoke, feeling absolutely horrid. My arm hurt and my head hurt, heck, everything hurt!
"Hey," a small voice said and I turned my head to see Danny sitting in a hard plastic chair beside me. "Danny?" I croaked, realising there was a drip in my hand. Why on earth was I in hospital?
"Hey," he repeated with a small wave.
"What happened?" I asked, attempting to sit up.
Danny gently pressed my shoulders back down. "You had a bit to drink...and you hurt yourself. You've had your stomach pumped and you're all stitched up." I glanced down at my arm to see a heavy white bandage with a small blood stain. A single tear ran down my face.
"I bought you these, I hope you like lilies," Danny shrugged, putting a large box of white flowers on my bedside table.
"Thank you, they're lovely," I said quietly. There was silence. "Where's the others?" I asked, closing my eyes.
"Home. They send their well-wishes."
I nodded. More silence. A doctor walked in, clutching a brown clipboard. "Miss Smith?" he asked, taking a seat at the end of my bed.
"Yes?"
"It's good to see you awake. As I believe the gentleman here has explained, you became very ill last night. With your alcoholism and your attempt at suicide, we're going to send you to a psychiatric facility for a week. To ensure your own personal safety."
"What?" I asked softly.
"A vehicle is coming to fetch you now. You'll be much better for it," the doctor replied, standing.
"But I don't want to go," I said, another single tear running down my cheek.
"It's for the best," the doctor replied, and I was aware of Danny's stare at the side of my head.
"Ah, here they are. Is there anyone you need to inform of what is happening?" he asked as a man in navy blue overalls came in and began to detach all my wires.
"No," I replied softly, my head falling back to the pillow.
"Time to go!" he said cheerfully, and with the doctor's assistance, began to wheel my bed out of the room.
"Danny!" I exclaimed, a sudden feeling of terror coming over me. "I don't want to go!"
Tears now poured down my face as I was wheeled through the hallways to an awaiting van. The last sight I saw was Danny's worried face.
"Danny," I whimpered as a familiar sedating feeling came over me. "I don't want to go..."
Danny's POV
Jessie's last words echoed in my head as I drove home along the packed freeway. What was happening to me? Yesterday I hated the girl. Couldn't stand her. But today, her terrified voice pierced my heart and something changed. I didn't know what. But something.
Dougie's POV
I sat at Tom's breakfast counter eating an entire bowl of strawberry pancakes with icecream and sugar, made for me by Giovanna. She was getting so big now that her belly ran into things as she walked around the kitchen. I sighed. Why couldn't I have what they had? Ten years of being together, married, and now a baby on the way. How had their life turned out so perfect, and mine, so screwed up? While Gi wasn't looking, I took a small flask from my pocket and tipped a good mouthful of whiskey into my coffee. She didn't need to know. It was the only thing that could get me through the day. Danny arrived, followed by Tom and Harry.
"Did you find Jessie?" I asked eagerly, drinking a large sip of my coffee.
"Yeah we did, she's staying with a friend here for a few days while everything gets sorted out," Harry replied with a smile, sitting beside me.
"Where's her friend? I have to go see her, I have to apologise, I have to make things right," I said, brushing crumbs off my lap and jumping to my feet.
"I don't know the exact address mate, but when she's ready, she'll come around, I promise you," Tom said, ruffling my hair and nudging me back to the chair. I did what I was told, and grudgling began to eat my pancakes, made so lovingly by Giovanna, who sat in a chair, murmuring to her belly.
"Tom!" she exclaimed suddenly, "our Crumb is kicking again!" Tom, the excited new dad he was, raced to her side, putting his hands on her swollen baby oven, smiling with pride. I turned my eyes back to my pancakes, and jealously began to cut them into tiny pieces, until my entire plate was covered in brown and pink mush. With that, I stood up, "accidentally" knocked my arm across the bench, sending my plate and empty coffee cup flying, where it smashed with a loud bang on the white tiles. I left the room, ignoring their surprised stares.
Danny's POV
The next day I took another large bunch of yellow roses to the facility where Jessie was staying. I didn't even know why. That sparked a pattern. And for the next five days, I did the same thing. She was miserable and bored. But I felt like I made a difference.
Harry's POV
Dougie was miserable. All he did all day was sit in his room in my house, staring at the television, drinking bottle after bottle of beer and wine.
"Hey mate. Why don't we go outside and do something today?" I asked gently, sitting beside him.
He shook his head. "Harry seriously, where is she?" he asked, looking more alert than he had in days, sitting up straight and glaring at me.
"At her friend's house, we told you that, we tell you that every time you ask Dougie."
"You're lying. I know you're lying," he grumbled, "I'm gonna go see what Danny's doing." And with that, he left the room.
He was slipping back into his depression, and I did not like it one bit.
