She's still unmoving, still staring out the window, but her eyes are filling with tears.
"I turned around to find out what the hell had gotten into him, but he threw wrapping paper at me. We ended up making a mess and getting yelled at by Esme."
She stops and takes a deep breath, but it's her undoing, and she starts to cry.
"I knew he was joking, because we'd already talked about waiting until we were both done with college before we even thought about getting married. But for a second – for just a single, split second – I thought about saying yes. Yes… I wanted to say yes so badly, because I knew there was nobody else for me. Edward was it. I wanted to be with him for the rest of my life."
