This story has officially passed 100 pages. That is a personal first for me, so thank you all for the motivation to do it!
Beep. Beep. Beep beep beep.
Cyborg wiped imaginary sweat off his forehead, stepping back from the machine in front of him. His footsteps sounded thundering in the tense silence, and Cyborg heaved a heavy sigh of relief as he scanned over the machinery for any mistakes. The robotic Titan turned to face the waiting crowd behind him.
A hushed whisper split the silence in the room. "Did you fix it?"
"Man," Cyborg grinned, stretching his arms out to the sides, "I already told ya; if it's broke, I can fix it."
Speedy let out a joyous cheer, pushing his way through his other teammates to reach the newly repaired microwave first. Unfortunately for him, Más and Menos were also eager to see it, and the three collided, piling up into a jumble of arms and legs on the ground. Aqualad and Bumblebee exchanged amused glances, and then the former approached Cyborg.
Aqualad rested a hand on his friend's metal shoulder. "Thank you, Cyborg. I don't know where we'd be without you." He chuckled. "Those digital clocks are impossible to figure out at times."
"That's why I'm here, man."
Aqualad dipped his head, and then, turning his attention to the trio of tangled Titans nearby attempting to disassemble from their knot of human arms and legs, stepped carefully around the three to grab a microwavable meal for himself.
Bumblebee nodded to Cyborg, stepping up to him. "And they're why I'm here to thank you for everything else." She lifted an eyebrow at Speedy's frustrated moan that came from the floor.
The robotic teen smiled. "It was really no problem, Bee. I'm glad I could help." He and Bumblebee watched as Más managed to escape the trio and continued attempting to pull his brother free who had somehow found a way to get his glove caught on one of Speedy's arrows. "They're a handful, huh?"
"Yeah." Bumblebee sighed, rubbing the back of her neck. "You helped though; quite a lot really these past couple of days what with the team workouts and fixing our mess. I mean, you even updated the workout station and training course so to get the boys' energy out! I'll be sad to see you go, Sparks."
Cyborg shuffled his weight to his other leg, recalling the past three days of hard work and tiresome hours of mechanical labor. Oddly enough, the microwave had been the most difficult to fix, and it added a full day to the length he needed to repair everything, though this may have also been because the Titan was procrastinating. Nevertheless, his hypothetical two minutes for the microwave had elongated into twenty-four hours. Still, there had been perks to the job despite how strenuous it might have sounded. Hanging out with the Titans East had been one of them; working with Bumblebee was another.
"What, you not gonna have anyone to spark up your life when I'm gone?" Bumblebee snorted as Cyborg froze. "That was a joke worthy of BB, wasn't it? Oh man," he groaned, pinching the bridge of his nose, "I really hope that doesn't happen again anytime soon."
Bumblebee rolled her eyes. "Well, 'course I'm gonna miss you! Whatever are we gonna do without our own personal mechanic?"
"Guess I'll just have to make sure to visit then," Cyborg smirked again, elbowing her.
Bumblebee dropped her gaze a moment before meeting his stare. "Sounds like a plan," she replied quietly. "But seriously, Sparks, I am glad you came by. Not just for fixing about everything in the tower, but also for hanging out." She winked at him, eyes shining. "And who can forget what a great party we had?"
"That was somethin'," Cyborg agreed, crossing his arms and looking at the ceiling for a moment, lost in thought.
He turned back to Bumblebee as she continued. "But hey, just make sure you remember that offer to stop by again, 'kay?"
Cyborg tapped his chin thoughtfully. "Well, I think Rob mentioned something about another sleepover soon. You're comin', right? We'll always have the time to compete in another racing game, yeah?"
"Yeah…" The Titans East leader tilted her head. "So it's a date then?"
Cyborg raised both his eyebrows. "If you want it to be." Bumblebee smiled just as the familiar ring of the Titan's alert buzzed, but instead of it being from their communicator, this time the sound came from the microwave. Aqualad withdrew his steaming meal from the small machine, his puzzled expression reflecting the looks on everyone else's face. Cyborg grinned sheepishly. "I thought it would be funny." The Titans East glanced at one another, shrugged, and went back to their previous activities. "But anyway," Cyborg addressed Bumblebee once more. "Good luck with this bunch. I know it can be hard, but just keep them in line every so often and make sure they know who's in charge, and you'll be fine." After a pause, he added, "I've got faith in ya."
"Thanks Sparks."
"I'm back ya'll! Miss me?"
Robin, Starfire, Beast Boy, and Raven turned their heads from the television to see Cyborg standing in the entryway loaded up with his luggage and equipment. In a similar manner to that which Starfire dropped her mountain of pillows those nine days ago, –which had in no way been cleaned up as of yet and still swarmed the ops room's floor- Cyborg released his bags onto the ground. Fortunately he didn't have near enough to cover up the ground like the pillows had, and his gear fell into small piles by the robotic teenager's feet.
Raven was the first to react. "You were gone?" The corner of her mouth twitched as Cyborg huffed at the empath, crossing his arms. The metallic Titan's mood was brightened, however, when Starfire and Beast Boy saw their friend and proceeded to jump up and over the sofa in greeting, Robin and Raven following at a slower pace.
"Friend Cyborg! We have missed you very the much!" Starfire cried, wrapping her arms around the teenager's wide shoulders. Cyborg chuckled, patting the girl's back.
"Glad to see you too, Star. Glad to see someone missed me." Cyborg looked pointedly at Raven, and the empath allowed him to see her faint smirk. The robotic teenager released Starfire and exchanged "man-hugs" with Robin and Beast Boy.
The green shape-shifter stepped back from his taller friend. "Cy! Dude, it's so boring when you're gone! I've had nobody to play video games with this whole time!"
"What, you haven't played at all?" Cyborg was surprised. He'd expected Beast Boy to have at least practiced a little during his absence. At Titans East, the metallic teenager was given multiple opportunities to play against Bumblebee, Speedy, Aqualad, and Más and Menos, and each time he'd taken them. Now that Cyborg thought about it, maybe it wasn't such a surprise that he'd taken so long to finish fixing their tower.
Beast Boy shrugged. "Well, y'know. I have played a little…" He glanced at Robin and Starfire, both smiling, and then briefly, at Raven. The empath had her eyes focused past him on Cyborg.
The older Titan laughed, unaware of Beast Boy's brief scan over the others. "Oh, man, I'm so gonna whoop your rusty little butt!"
"Rusty?!" Beast Boy exclaimed, his voice breaking from pitching so high. "Dude, it is so on!"
The pair hurried on back to the couch, smirking at one another with competitive spirits stirring. While Cyborg popped a game into the station and Beast Boy set up the controllers, the robotic teenager observed aloud, "Y'know, I thought with Rob bein' so neat and tidy, ya'll woulda had this mess picked up by now."
Robin cleared his throat. He'd taken several other cracks at cleaning up pillows in the ops room during the previous three days, but somehow there'd always been an excuse or distraction that prevented the team from doing so. "Oh, ah, we were just waiting for you to come back to help. You did make part of the mess after all."
Cyborg rolled his eyes, adjusting the television's volume as the loading screen from the game came up. "Sure you were. Whatever, man."
As Raven glided over to the couch where her book lay, Starfire leaned closer to Robin. "I have 'the feeling' that the pillows are not going to be the 'cleaned up', are they?"
Robin gave his girlfriend a pained look, lowering his voice so Cyborg wouldn't hear. "As much as I hate to say it, you're probably right. But I figure that since your next sleepover is in only about three days, why bother picking them up when we're just going to make a mess again? Besides," he added, rubbing the top of his head and flattening his hair temporarily, "at least we have a few paths to make it around the room now." After so much wading through pillows, small trails had been formed about the floor amongst the parted cushions to make it from place to place. It was amusing, especially to Cyborg who still didn't see why the pillows had not been stored away or donated by now.
Raven had retrieved her current book and was now seated on the edge of the couch, nose already in the pages. Cyborg supposed the story must be very intriguing for her to believe she could shut out him and Beast Boy in their upcoming video game playing. The green shape-shifter tossed his metallic friend a controller, relaxing back against the sofa in between Cyborg and Raven. Cyborg blinked in surprise when the empath hardly batted an eyelash at Beast Boy's sitting down beside her, and his human and mechanical eyes bugged out even more when the robotic teenager caught sight of the close proximity between the two. Raven's crossed legs were only mere inches away from her teammate's. Raven normally would kick Beast Boy to the moon -or maybe just the other side of the couch- for invading her personal space in such away, and yet she had not moved.
"Ready, dude?" Beast Boy challenged, leaning forward in anticipation.
Cyborg dipped his head, focusing on the game. "You'd better believe it, BB! Prepare to be crushed!" He pressed START, and before long, the two best friends were tapping away at their controllers with practiced ease. While the pair exercised their fingers, Robin and Starfire took on the task of returning Cyborg's things to his room. There was no point in making the current mess in the main room worse than it already was.
Back at the game station, Beast Boy was all over the place and was indeed, as Cyborg had put it, rusty. However, as luck would have it, Cyborg was currently distracted. The shape-shifter and the empath's lessened amount of space between them was strange enough, but when Beast Boy started to really get into the game, bouncing up and down and back and forth on the sofa cushion, and Raven didn't speak up with some sarcastic comment, Cyborg started to wonder if something was wrong. He became more convinced of this when Beast Boy accidentally knocked his knee against hers and all he received was a glare and a warning grunt. Maybe Raven's book was just really engaging? Cyborg doubted it.
Eventually it seemed that Raven had had enough of the boys' energetic jumping and shouting, and, closing her book without a word, exited the room. A few games had been won and lost since, and Cyborg noticed the Beast Boy was becoming less hyper and pumped with adrenaline, and instead had taken on a more serious focus. Or that was what Cyborg thought anyway, but it seemed that he was proven incorrect when, while waiting for another round to load, Beast Boy faced his friend and inquired, "Could I ask you a question, Cy?"
"Go for it, little man," Cyborg replied, wondering what was on his green teammate's mind.
"So, uh, I've been thinking, dude…"
"And your brain hasn't fried yet?!" Cyborg gasped in pretend shock, his hands flying to his head.
"Oh, it did that a long time ago," Beast Boy smirked sarcastically. "I just gave it a re…kick."
"Reboot?"
Beast Boy nodded. "Sure. But anyway, I was thinking about, uh, this show I was watching the other day. Well, I didn't really watch it; I was flicking through channels and I'd gotten up for popcorn and a commercial ended and the show came on so I saw like five minutes of it. But anyway," he took in a deep breath, "it's about this dude named… Bea…Bop."
"Bebop?" Cyborg stifled a chuckle with the palm of his hand. "Really?"
"Yes," Beast Boy decided stubbornly. "It's a loveable dude named Beabop. And he's liking this girl who just invited him out to go to the… drive in theater."
"Drive in theater?" Cyborg scratched his nose. "How old was this… movie?"
Shrugging, Beast Boy replied uncertainly, "I dunno. Nineteen something or other. But that's not the point." Music from the television distracted the friends, and the countdown to the start of the digital race started. Cyborg paused before it could commence, proceeding to turn to his smaller teammate after. He indicated for the shape-shifter to continue. "But, uh, yeah. So," Beast Boy went on, resting his game controller on his lap, "this Bebop dude has never gone on a date before, and he's really nervous about it 'cause he really likes the girl."
Cyborg lifted an eyebrow, trying not to seem too interested. "Yeah?"
"Yeah, so I just was wondering what you think would happen? I never saw the end of it and it's driving me nuts! And I can't look it up because I don't know the title."
"Hm… Well…" Cyborg actually pondered the question. It seemed apparent what Beast Boy was trying to ask, but Cyborg was willing enough to play along. "Depends. What's this Bebop fella like?"
Beast Boy bit his lip, searching his memory for the answer. "Good with the ladies and stuff. Charming of course, but a bit of a fool sometimes, especially around the girl he likes."
"And he's never been on a date?" Cyborg inquired, chuckling. "Sounds kinda like he's a bit of a loser, man."
"Hey! No he's not!" Beast Boy defended, his ears pressing back against his head. He coughed into his hand upon seeing the look on Cyborg's smirking face. "It's a movie, remember? It's not realistic! And… he has been on a date once, but… it, uh, ended bad." Beast Boy swallowed. "Guess that's why he's kinda worried about this. Oh, but it's not an 'official' date," he added. "That's what the girl says anyway."
Cyborg had to laugh again. "And you got all this from five minutes of a movie?"
"They summarized well!"
"Okay, little buddy." Cyborg leaned into the couch, relaxing his arms over its back. "So you wanna know what I think'll happen?" Beast Boy nodded, playing with the edges of his gloves. "Hm… I suppose that if this Bebop guy really likes the girl and he really tries hard enough to not make a fool of himself…"
Cyborg trailed off, and Beast Boy couldn't refrain from asking, "What?"
The robotic teenager faced his green friend, smiling encouragingly. "He'll be just fine. If this girl likes him as much as he likes her, -and I think she does- everything should go great. Bebop just has to be himself."
Beast Boy smiled back. "Thanks dude."
Cyborg winked at him knowingly and then picked up his game controller. "Alrighty then; now that we're done with that, let's see who's really the champion at racing!"
Snatching up his own controller, Beast Boy couldn't help but jest at his friend. "I thought that was Bumblebee. After all, her name is at the top of our high score list with yours below it." The shape-shifter elbowed his friend.
Cyborg turned a dark shade of red, but his voice was calm when, eyes fixed on the screen, he replied, "Oh, that wasn't my name; it was… Cybert's."
Starfire sucked on the top of her mustard bottle nervously as she waited on the floor of the ops room for her friends to awaken. She had risen from her bed several hours ago, and, unable to sleep, found her way into the main room. It had been four in the morning at that time, and Starfire had remained awake ever since. The reason for her insomnia-like behavior was unknown to the girl, and it did little to make Starfire feel better. Her hands somehow obtained a bottle of mustard, one of her favorite foods on earth, and she quickly consumed it. Starfire was currently on her fourth, sitting cross-legged on the floor, surrounded by pillows and empty yellow mustard bottles, when the doors slid apart and Robin entered. He stopped short at the scene before him.
"Uh, Star?" the boy inquired, setting down a newspaper on the table nearby. "Why… What's the matter? Why are you up so early?" 'And surrounded by mustard bottles at six in the morning?' he added silently. Concern filled his voice. "Are you okay?"
Giving him a small smile, Starfire nodded, gliding to her feet. "I apologize. I was unable to sleep."
"Oh, Star," Robin exhaled in relief. It wasn't often that he saw Starfire so strangely out of context. "You could have come to talk to me. I was probably already awake, and if I wasn't, I wouldn't have minded."
His girlfriend smiled again, rubbing her shoulder. "I will remember that in the future, Robin." Robin nodded, descending the stairs to help Starfire pick up her mustard containers. As she stooped beside the spikey-haired teenager, the alien princess glanced at him. It was true that he was usually up early in the morning, but it was impossible to tell if he was tired because of it by looks alone. Robin was excellent at keeping his appearance smooth and consistent, such a skill rivaled only by Raven. The way he held his body straight, his clothes creaseless, and eyes unreadable behind that accursed white mask, one could almost believe Robin was a robot with no need of rest. Starfire's eyes widened. The mask! The small piece of plastic that hid the spikey-haired teenager's identity from the world must have been the reason for her restlessness.
Who could blame the girl? She had but two days to complete her end of the deal, otherwise she would be left at the hands of the three girls –or two, bearing in mind that Raven was unlikely to involve herself in the activity- and whatever ideas they had swirling around in their head. The alien princess had no way of knowing that thus far only Jinx had fulfilled her task and that Raven and Bumblebee were just as worried as Starfire.
Robin noticed the silence that hung around the beautiful girl with unease, and the edges of his mask crinkled as he narrowed his eyes. "Star? Are you sure you're alright?"
Starfire discarded her mustard bottles in the trash next to Robin. "I am the fine, Robin; I am simply tired."
Frowning for a moment, Robin watched her a minute longer before approaching the couch. He patted the seat beside him. Reading into his message correctly, Starfire smiled softly and flew over to his side, and, as Robin slipped his arm around her, the girl nestled into the crook of her boyfriend's elbow. She relaxed, feeling his hand stroke her shoulder. The two remained in an unspoken quiet for a long time, both enjoying one another's company without having to speak a word. Silkie wormed his way into the room, and, spotting the two on the soft together, managed to wriggle his way onto Starfire's lap. Robin chuckled as the larva gurgled happily, and even Starfire, her eyelids heavy with sleep, released a light laugh.
Time went unmeasured for the longest of time, and Starfire had scarcely fallen asleep for a few minutes, still in Robin's arm, when Cyborg entered the ops room, stretching his arms above his head with a deep yawn. "Oh, man! I'm starvin'! What's for breakfast?" he asked himself, approaching the refrigerator completely oblivious to the two other Titans on the couch. Starfire stirred, opening her eyes, and Robin patted her hair. The boy wonder glanced over his shoulder at Cyborg with an irritated expression, but Cyborg was blind to it. "So I'm thinking that I'm gonna have some eggs and ham, courtesy of Dr. Seuss," he continued, chuckling to no one in particular, "and then pair them up with some bacon and have a totally meat-tastic breakfast!" The robotic teenager had tugged the refrigerator door open and was retrieving said items when Robin spoke.
"While you're at it, why don't you throw some on for Starfire and I? We're getting a little hungry ourselves."
Cyborg yelped with surprise, jerking back and smacking his head against the top of the refrigerator. The eggs tumbled out of his hands, but luckily they were still in the carton and suffered little damage. The metallic teenager grumbled beneath his breath, stooping to pick up the food. "Man, don't do that! I just about had a heart attack!"
Robin smirked. "I didn't know that was possible with you."
Cyborg placed the ingredients on the counter, inspecting the eggs, and then turned to Robin. A smile stretched across his face upon noting Starfire wiping her eyes beside the leader. "Hey, good mornin' Star! Didn't see ya there!" He chuckled. "Sleep well?"
Robin frowned at him, but Starfire nodded, rubbing her cheeks to wake up. "Yes, friend Cyborg. I am feeling much the reenergized." Cyborg chortled again, facing the stove and starting it up. Starfire leaned over to her boyfriend, giving him a quick kiss on the cheek, and Robin looked at her in surprise, a small blush forming on his nose. "Thank you, Robin," she murmured.
Robin smiled, scratching the top of his head. "Of course, Star."
Cyborg interrupted, calling over to the two. "So, what do ya'll want in your eggs? The usual? Or do ya want me to spice it up a bit?"
"Whatever you feel like, Cyborg," Robin replied, getting to his feet along with Starfire. Unlike the female residents of the tower, Cyborg actually knew how to cook, and therefore the fear of throwing up because of any meal he prepared was near non-existent. Silkie hopped to the ground, squirming over to Cyborg's feet in case the robotic teen dropped anything edible. Or non-edible; it didn't really matter to the small worm. Robin and Starfire approached the dining table, Robin grabbing the newspaper that he'd brought in that morning. The couple found a spot to sit together as they awaited their breakfast. While her boyfriend scanned over the latest events in Jump City's Newspaper, Starfire stole a glance at the clock. The time was now about eight o' clock. Raven would be coming in soon, but Beast Boy had at least three or more hours until he even stirred. Cyborg and Starfire were rarely up this early, for during normal days they woke up in between Raven and Beast Boy's time. Robin always was the first up, and he stayed true to that as much as possible, which explained his surprise and concern for Starfire that morning when he'd found her awake before he had been.
"So ya'll," Cyborg walked over, balancing three plates of eggs, ham, and bacon, "What's the plan for today? Got any ideas?"
Starfire perked up upon remembering. "Robin and I are going on the date!"
Robin lowered his newspaper, narrowing an eyebrow. "We are?"
Laughing, Cyborg shook his head. "Shame on you Robin; not remembering your date with your girlfriend?"
He didn't know that he could be late for imaginary dates. "Uh, sorry?"
"Yes, Robin. Do you not remember?" Starfire smiled at him teasingly. "I told you a few days in the past after our sparring? That is why we cannot accompany friends Raven and Beast Boy to the movies."
Robin exhaled, relieved. "Oh, right. I remember now. Sorry, Star; it completely slipped my mind. What time to you want to leave?"
Starfire was about to reply when Cyborg cut in. "Whoa, whoa! Hold up! BB and Raven are going to the movies together?! Alone?!"
Wearing a sheepish grin, Starfire exchanged an embarrassed glance with Robin. The alien princess had not meant to reveal that information to Cyborg, for the robotic teenager would most likely use it to his advantage. There was no point in hiding it now that he'd heard though. Starfire dipped her head. "Yes, Beast Boy is going to accompany Raven to the theater of movies today. Robin and I are unable to attend because of our date."
"So, you two just 'happen' to have a date today?" Cyborg clarified suspiciously. "And BB and Raven just 'happen' to be alone?" Uneasily, Starfire nodded. Her robotic friend was nearing too close to the truth behind the matter for her comfort, but she couldn't say anything lest he look further into it. Little did she know, but Cyborg was already fully aware of the situation as it was.
The doors slid apart with a hiss, and silent footsteps indicated the arrival of another Titan. Raven glanced down at the rare sight of half of the tower's residents out of bed before she was and lifted an eyebrow. "Was there a party and I wasn't invited?" she inquired, monotone.
Cyborg was right in front of the empath before she could blink. He pointed a finger at her. "You're going to the movies with BB?!"
Raven's eyes widened a margin in disbelief. "Why do you say that?" Cyborg nodded to the couple at the table, Starfire wearing an ashamed face and Robin hiding behind his newspaper. Raven shifted her eyes at them and then back to the robotic teenager before her. "So?"
"So it's true?!" Cyborg gasped, throwing his hands up to his head in shock.
"What about it?" Raven asked, acting disinterested. She walked past the bigger teenager who was sparking with amazement and astonishment. "It's not like it's a date."
The empath's word's caused Cyborg to freeze suddenly, and his abrupt lack of movement worried Raven more than his curiosity had. His mouth dropped open as he stared unblinking at the dark girl, his cybernetic eye dilating in size. He whispered to himself so no one else could hear, "Not an 'official' date; that's what she says anyway."
Without warning, Cyborg cracked up with laughter, guffawing so hard that he was bending over and clutching his sides. It was a pointless motion because there was no way that his metallic stomach could hurt from laughing, but everyone else was too perplexed to comment on it. Robin folded his newspaper. "Are you okay, Cyborg?"
Cyborg waved a hand at the leader, gasping for breath. "Perfectly fine, Rob. Never been better!" Robin and Starfire exchanged glances, but Raven just dismissed his actions, walking into the kitchen to prepare her tea. Cyborg popped up by her shoulder, tilting his head and leaning against the side of the counter. "Well then Raven, what movie might you be going to see on this not date?"
Raven regarded him with a cool look, placing her cup on the counter with a soft clink. "Wicked Scary 3."
"Wicked Scary 3?! Ah man, I've been waiting for that movie to come out!" Cyborg exclaimed, grinning in a way that put Raven's nerves on edge. "You mind if I come along? BB might need some help handlin' you and your powers." In truth, Cyborg hadn't even known there was a Wicked Scary 2, let alone 3. The robotic teen had only offered to join Raven and Beast Boy to see how the empath would react. He didn't have any intention of tagging along to the movie; Beast Boy was a brave soul to agree to see a horror film with the dark sorceress.
The expression Raven wore was surprised if nothing else. "I didn't think you wanted to, Cyborg."
Cyborg held his hands up innocently. "Hey, I like a good scary movie as much as the next guy!" He pouted. "I'm a little offended that you didn't offer me to come with, Raven!"
Raven turned from him to warm the water for her tea. "I hadn't spoken to you for several days and suppose I never got the chance." Heat rose in her concealed face. "If you want to accompany us, you're welcome to." Her words were impassive, but the tone was laced with steel. This fact was not lost on the robotic teenager by her side.
He inclined toward Raven, smiling. "Really? 'Cause I'd love to come, but I won't if you don't want me to intrude on your and BB's quality time alone." Raven glared at him, opening her mouth to shoot back a retort, but another voice interrupted her first.
"I smell the overwhelming amount of meat cooking and I've come to chew you out, Cy," Beast Boy declared, entering through the main doors and rubbing his eyes, the boy still dressed in his pajamas. He blinked a few times upon seeing everyone staring at him like he'd grown a third head. "Uh, what?"
Starfire answered for the others. "Friend Beast Boy, we are surprised to see you having awoken so early! It is unusual for you to be shining and rising before noon!"
Beast Boy shrugged, and Cyborg interjected, not having moved from beside Raven in the kitchen. "Oh, he's just excited about his date with Raven and bet he couldn't sleep, am I right?" Cyborg elbowed the girl who growled in response.
"A date?" Beast Boy scratched his ear, sights settling at the dark empath in the kitchen. "Why wasn't I told about it?" All eyes turned to Raven, and Beast Boy was grateful for the momentary distraction as his cheeks burned. He'd just remembered he was only wearing bottoms.
Raven, pointedly not looking at anyone –Beast Boy in particular- explained, "Cyborg has learned of our movie arrangement and is blowing it out of proportion." Stirring her tea, the dark sorceress picked up her steaming cup and glanced at the metallic Titan. "Which does not surprise me in the least."
"But BB!" Cyborg finally transferred his attention to the shape-shifter who had descended the stairs and now stood at the base. "I wanted to know, 'yknow, since it's not a date, if I could come with?!"
Beast Boy swallowed, his ears twitching, and edged back from the robotic teenager as he had invaded the green boy's space. He cleared his throat, rubbing the bridge of his nose. "Well uh dude… I don't uh… I uh… Raven?"
The empath had finally found it in herself to look at Beast Boy straight on, but that didn't stop a blush from spreading across her face when he turned to her. In all her life, she'd never been so grateful for her hood. For a few seconds, Beast Boy and Raven were left staring at one another with the need for help and neither being able to give it, but at last she exhaled silently. "I see no reason why he can't come."
"Um, yeah," Beast Boy agreed, his shoulders dropping a little. He adjusted his focus to his feet. "If you really wanna."
Cyborg nodded, smiling. He scooped up his plate of eggs, leaving Raven staring at her tea by the counter and Beast Boy stranded in the middle of the room by himself, digging a toe into the carpet. Draining his plate in one large gulp, the robotic teenager wiped his mouth on his arm. "Alrighty, sounds like a plan! What time should I be there?"
Raven's curt reply was, "Four."
"Sweet. I'll be there!" Waving at the others, Cyborg jogged out of the room to figure out what to do with himself in the next eight hours and how exactly he planned on getting out of this. He never imagined that the two would agree to let him come with to the movies, and now the robotic teenager had to devise some excuse to leave so he didn't spoil their time together. He also just didn't want to see the movie; after the first Wicked Scary, things had been bad enough. Cyborg had no urge to sleep with a nightlight for a month afterwards again.
Back in the ops room, Raven and Beast Boy had taken up their seats beside one another, neither speaking a word. Robin glanced back and forth between the two, opened his mouth to say something, and then decided against it, instead starting to eat away at his long-since cooled breakfast. Likewise, Starfire wished to speak to her friends, but nothing that could brighten their day came to mind. The alien princess was particularly disappointed in the recent change of events; she knew how much Raven was looking forward to the movies –not that the empath would ever admit it- and Cyborg had managed to ruin that for her. Judging by the way that Beast Boy was glaring dangerously at the pile of eggs, ham, and bacon on Starfire's plate, the shape-shifter was none too happy with the alteration of their plans either. That, or he really was against eating meat.
