Chapter 23- Daycare, Spearow, and Hypnosis
It was nice to be finally out of that accurse Ilex forest. I was happy to have survive that place. Now I found myself on the path to Goldenrod city where I would challenge the gym leader. Totodile had become restless and I called him back mostly because I was tired of carrying him on my back.
I decided that the best thing to do was to catch another pokemon to challenge Whittney. But what would I catch? Definitely not Caterpie, What was on this route anyway?
Before I even thought of going in the tall grass I did what any smart and reasonable trainer would do, Heal. I walked into town for a moment to go and heal.
"Is this the first time you have visited this city?" The woman at the counter asked.
"Yes it is. I'm here to challenge Whittney." The nurse started to snicker.
"Good luck." She tried to hold in her laughter.
"Thanks." I left the pokemon center as fast as I could and went back into the tall grass. Upon touch a pokemon showed up.
"Drowsy." The pokemon said moving it's hands up and down in a weird fashion.
"Totodile!" I called out to my pokemon. "Use bite." Chomp! Was what happened to the poor pokemon's head. It must of hurt or really irritate the Drowsy because it used a Headbutt on my pokemon. Totodile was thrown back. It glared at that pokemon for the longest time.
"Bite again." Totodile had no problem sinking it's teeth into Drowsy.
It came around with another headbutt. Totodile was knocked around again. I could see by the look on it's face that it didn't really appreciate Drowsy.
"Use Scratch." I commanded. Totodile did what he was told. If I didn't know any better Totodile was mad at Drowsy. Stunned by my pokemon's attack I threw one of the great balls at it. The ball rocked back and forth for a little bit and then clicked shut.
"Yeah I caught another pokemon." Totodile on the other hand was not as excited as I was he went over and picked the pokeball up. He held it over the pond that was on the route waiting for me to approve.
"No you can't do that." I said taking the ball from his reach. " Let's go to that building right there." I pointed to the daycare. He backed up and shook his head violently. "Do you not want to go in there?" I asked kind of in a chuckling tone. "It's okay I never loved them at all. I always wanted to stay home with my mom. It's okay you don't have to like it either." He must of thought that meant that he didn't have to go now. But I wanted him to learn a proper move or two so he was still going. We walked in and talked to the elderly lady at the receptionist table.
"Hello the day care is open for you to have two pokemon per trip who would you like to use?" I thought about all my pokemon on hand I decided to bring Totodile for a small time and another one of my pokemon. I looked through all the pokemon I had and came to the conclusion that I would send Speedy my slowpoke there for a little while. I hoped to gain some experience for the two so that I had all that I could against the gym leader here. What was her name again? I growled in frustration as I tried so hard to remember the name of the Goldenrod city gym leader. The day care lady looked at me in confusion and I didn't blame her, it probably wasn't every day that she would see a stranger act the way I did.
"Honey are you all right? Did you sit out in the sun too long?" I blushed a moment realizing what I was doing and stopped rather quickly.
"I have decided to leave Totodile and Slowpoke." If looks could kill I'd be dead in a heartbeat by the glare that I got from Totodile I assumed he didn't appreciate that I tricked him. "Hey I said you didn't have to like and you don't. But I never said that you didn't have to go. I want you to get stronger. I'll pick both of you up before I do the gym battle okay?" Speedy nodded but Totodile hesitated not knowing whether it could trust what I had promised. I smiled and thanked both of them for their sacrifice.
"I would love it if I could get your Pokegear number so I can keep you updated when there's an emergency or a surprise." The woman smiled politely. I gave her my number and I got her number back in return. I thanked her and said farewell to my two pokemon then left.
"Now let's train my other pokemon." I said to myself looking at the pokemon I had left; Unown, Weepinbell, Togepi, and Drowzee. Maybe this wasn;t the brightest idea but right now I must of thought it was. "Drowzee come on out!" I called the pokemon out. He wasn't the happiest camper there was.
"Drowzee my name is Desiree." I said courteously but the pokemon decided to be a little bit more pompous than thoughtful of my feelings. Of course it hurts when the pokemon you worked so hard to catch is being rude to you. "Drowzee what's wrong don't you like me." It shrugged its shoulder in response. It reminded me very much of a rebellious teenager.
"Well whether you like it or not. You are my pokemon and you will listen to me. Understand." The pokemon nodded a grin rose slyly from under it's nose. I had a slight feeling I would discover what devious plan that pokemon was thinking of. I never realized how difficult Psychic pokemon were.
"Hey watch out! Someone help me catch that Spearow!" I stopped for a moment to see what was going on. Sure enough there was a Spearow with a small sack in it's beak.
"What's going on? What does Spearow have in it's beak." I saw the boy blush for a moment then he replied.
"That's my social security number." He stammered. I must of looked like I didn't believe it because I didn't believe it. There was no way that a Spearow would need a social security number and besides what would a twelve or thirteen-year-old boy who I doubt wasn't working need a social security number? And who would let a Spearow take it?
"Okay I'll help you." I replied looking at Drowzee for a moment wondering if it was a good Idea. I eventually decided to use Weepinbell. "Sleep powder hurry!" I commanded in a rushed tone. Spearow were fast and shrewd and not to mention they were flying types so they could easily blow away the powder with a gust and it'd be over before we knew it. I ridiculed myself for not thinking before I acted. But I may not have had to.
"Spearow's out cold!" The boy shouted to get my attention and I beat him to the sack. I wanted some answers and the only way now was to hold it captive until he told me.
"Hey give it back!" He yelled. "You can't know what's in there." Yes I can and I was determined to know what it was.
"What's in here? If you tell me I'll give it back." I smiled and the boy just glared at me. By the look in his eyes he did not want to tell me what was in that bag and I barely blamed him but I was determined to find out what it was.
"I can't tell you what's in there." He whined eyeing the sack. "I just can't or I'd get pummeled by- Oh no! You've got to understand, please just hand it over."
" Not until you battle me." I replied. The boy sighed I wasn't exactly sure if it was because all his pokemon was weak or that he was embarrassed that I would get beat by this secret power that he had. "To save time let's do a one on one." I challenged him and I was lucky that he agreed. I was way too worried that I was holding his long johns or something that I wasn't supposed to know what it was without it being totally inappropriate. I thought a battle for it would at least give Drowzee experience or even if I could rely on it in battle. This battle would help me know or not.
The boy called out his pokemon; It was a Ponyta. But that wasn't the only thing that he had as a surprise. He pulled it out and I saw clearly and all too well what it was. The headband that salesman was trying to sell us before now was being worn by other trainers. Now I had no idea how to stop them if I didn't know what move they were planning. I was now going to have to play it by ear.
Ponyta came in after Drowzee and struck him with one of it's hooves. I assumed it was a Stomp. Drowzee looked at me wondering what I was going to make it do since this was almost impossible to hear what was going to come next. Those cursed headbands were surely going to be the end of fair pokemon battles.
"Drowzee let's use Hypnosis." I choked for a moment I realized why Drowzee was smiling. I bet it expected me to use that move at one point when it did it would use it against me then escape while I was taking a nap.
My suspicion was right because in one moment I saw Drowzee turn around and use it against it's own trainer. It was really hard to describe the experience I underwent but I started to feel myself desire to sleep. I started to check out of everything including the battle. But before I totally fell under Drowzee's hypnosis I caught a glimpse of a boy in a half mask that was skull white. A Houndoom accompanied him. He was my age maybe even older. I felt immediate danger for some reason but it was obvious that he was watching me. I wanted the boy and his pokemon to stay while I was helpless. Soon the boy disappeared and I totally succumbed to the attack. Trainers needed a power nap before a gym battle anyway. Wait did this mean I lost the battle?
