Boredom is Blue
Chapter Fourteen
Jay's P.O.V
I can't believe we're finally here. We're finally here. At the Amazon base, where Nya is being held. We're finally rescuing her.
I feel like I can breathe again.
Almost.
I know that I'll never really feel good again until Nya is safe in my arms. Pathetic, I know. But I love her, and isn't that how you feel when someone you love is in danger? That you won't feel good again until you know their safe? I would feel the same way if any of my brothers was taken. Probably not to the same scale, by that I mean I probably wouldn't go Beat-Someone-to-a-Bloody-Pulp crazy, but I know that I would worry every second that they were gone. When it's my girlfriend who's missing, well, surely you understand why I went a bit nutso.
But this is irrelevant, because we are going to get her back! Yay!
I miss her so much, and now we are getting her back!
Knowing that I shouldn't, I pull ahead anyway. My feet sink into the hot orange sand that had retained the heat from the day. My mask is pulled over my face, which I'm thankful for, with all the sand being thrown up by my sprint. I can barely see in the darkness, the night being a new moon, so no moonlight to guide me. But it doesn't matter. A ninja can sense things without the use of their eyes. All I want to do is push ahead, get closer, and fight like I've never fought before. Not that I'm going to be a bad fighter. But that I'm going to fight better than I ever have. But I understand how that could be confusing. I always found it confusing when a comparison is structured like that. And yes, I have indeed lost my chain of thought.
My legs continue to push forward, muscles compacting and releasing at an alarming rate as I reach a reckless speed so quick my feet start to barely brush over the sand. I leave the others in my dust; none of them have a hope of catching up to me. However, this punishing speed probably wasn't the best idea. I can feel my muscles starting to falter. Nya once compared me to animals like cheetahs and greyhounds; able to reach incredible speeds, but unable to sustain it for very long. Jeez, I'm so fucking stupid sometimes. In my eagerness to reach her, I've pretty much exhausted myself. My diaphragm runs rampart, desperate to keep my lungs going. Yet at this velocity, I can't simply stop. No, I can't stop. I'm not going to stop. Gritting my teeth, my breath snarls through my open lips. I don't think I've ever run this fast for so long. Nya. I must get to Nya. Because I love her.
A sudden gust of wind from behind me pushes me off-balance. Luckily, my natural agility keeps me on my feet. Or, it would have, if I hadn't been running on sand. Legs tangling beneath me and arms outstretched to the rapidly approaching ground, I contort my body, using my momentum to forward flip. Landing solidly on my feet with arms bent and out for balance, and probably looking pretty freaking badass, I look over my shoulder to the Elemental Dragon landing gracefully on the orange sand. Panting for breath, I glare a death glare at Lloyd's massive grin from beyond the conjunction of the four necks.
"Dude! That was insane! I wish I had caught that on camera!"
"Lloyd, what the hell are you doing?! If I had landed badly, going at that speed, I could have fucking broken something! I thought we were leaving E-Dra further away?" I shout back at him after regaining my breath, before realising that was dumb, seeing how close we are to the Amazon base. I really, really, hope that my mindless yelling hasn't alerted the enemies once again. Don't you think twice is enough? I get too much shit for being loud-mouthed as it is.
Fortunately, no Amazon's come marching my way brandishing weapons, so I'm going to assume that I didn't give away our position and don't have to scream "get out of range!" after being shot in the shoulder by an arrow. Okay, yes, I watch way too many Disney movies. It is something Nya and I do after stressful days. Watching them really helps to you to relax and wind down.
"Yeah, but when you brainlessly ran off, because you're inhumanly fast there was no way anyone could catch up to you on foot. So, Cole sent me to stop you using E-Dra. That flip was awesome, by the way."
"Oh." Damn, that was a pretty good excuse for almost damaging my precious body. I was being rather stupid after all. Meh, even with a good excuse, there's no calling for putting my running machine to risk. Looking behind Lloyd, I can very barely make out some figures in the darkness. They must be close now; it's so dark you can hardly see your hand in front of your face. Zane was the first to reach us, his face shocked at my awesomeness, I can tell. He doesn't speak, just stares at me, his wide, pale grey eyes gleaming in the dark. Soon following him is Kai's hurried approach, the sound of his fumbling in the sand occasionally interrupted with curses. When he reaches us, the places a hand on Zane's stiff shoulder, pulling off his light leather shoes to empty them off sand. Strangely, he doesn't speak either. In fact, he doesn't even look at me.
Opening my mouth to comment, I'm distracted by the arrival of Ken, being so small that I don't see her until she's right in front of me. Straight after her, Cole strolls into the little circle, his heavy, dark brow twitching in suppressed anger.
"What the fuck were you thinking?" He hisses quietly, but no less furiously, at me. "Wasting your energy in an attempt to show off?"
Again, I open my mouth to speak, but he cuts me off.
"What if your mad dash led to us getting caught, huh? What good are we to Nya if we are also in jail cells?"
"Shit, I didn't even think-" Cole grabs my gi, yanking me forward to growl into my face.
"No. No, you didn't. Clearly, you didn't even for a second consider how your reckless behaviour could have effected all of us. You're acting like Kai the first time Nya was kidnapped. You were all quick to judge him then, what about now, huh? Still feel like he was behaving stupidly? Now that you have done the exact same thing, putting all of us in danger in your rush to get her back?"
So shocked am I from the mass of scathing questions, I'm actually speechless. Dammit, I thought I was going to stop being so selfish! The others are all silent witnesses to Cole's rage and my shaken muteness.
"Nothing, Jay? Got nothing to say?" Cole grumbles, but his anger begins to fade. "Good. So now, heed my words, you will listen to my orders, or I will send you home and we will rescue Nya without you."
I can't force any sound out of my throat, so I nod.
"Good." Cole lets go of me, pushing me back a few steps. But then, surprisingly, his face softens in sympathy. "Look, I can't pretend to completely understand what you're going through, what's going on in your head right now, as I have never loved a woman the way you love Nya. But you can't keep putting the team at risk. Please, just listen to me, my orders, and know that anything I do is in the best interest of the team. Okay?"
I nod again. Cole nods back, and walks to the front of the group. "Let's keep going," he says over his shoulder as he breaks into a soundless run. We all move to follow behind him, me closer to the back of the group as we spread out a little to decrease the chances of being detected. The only one behind me is Lloyd, as he had to dismount and dismiss E-Dra before following.
Now, I'm sure you're all thinking I should be mad at Cole, for shaming me like that. I'm not. I needed to be told that, so I can see that it's not just me in danger here. I may have no problem in risking my own life, but it isn't okay to drag the whole team into it. Cole, as our leader, was doing his job to protect all of us. It was a pretty dick move of me, to run off like that, as exhilarating as it was at the time.
Running like that is addictive to me, so I need to be reminded occasionally to slow down. I live my life faster than everyone else, always rushing, always having a million little thoughts in my head. Sprinting, moving as fast as I possibly can, is very thrilling and very freeing. All I can feel is the tension in my muscles, the hot rush of my breath. My thoughts clear, and I feel like I can finally focus. With my thoughts always taking off with me, I find it very difficult to focus. Sometimes I think I may be A.D.D. So when I truly sprint, I sprint, so much so that my brothers have to remind me to slow it down so I can actually get the job done. And that coupled with Nya's kidnapping, I was really booking it. It was right of Cole to admonish me like that.
I wonder though, seeing as that run before was the fastest I have ever run, and it was on sand, can I go even faster? Now that I know that I can get to those kinds of speeds, with the right surface I could probably push my limits even further.
That's something I'll have to try out later, when Nya's back. When Nya's back.
Man, I can't wait for when Nya gets back.

Katy's Note: Hi ya, there! Sorry it's been so long since my last update, but I suddenly got really busy. I hope you guys didn't get mad at Cole for this chapter; he was just doing his job, and I personally think that in both fanfiction and the actual series, the fact that Cole is the leader isn't demonstrated enough.
Now, big announcement, there was a poll put up on my profile for about ten days deciding the title of Lloyd's book. I PMed all the peeps on the alert list, so you guys all should have heard about it. The poll is closed now, and I have a winner! It was really close, only a one vote difference, but the winner is Envy is Green. So, there you have it! Lloyd's going to have some problems with jealousy.
To respond to my much love reviews,
ForeverDreamer12: Ooh, naughty :P Don't worry, I use my school's network for reading FF all the time, probably a little too often. Thank you! I think Nya's brave, too.
Lya200: I agree, I think spitting is gross. I have no idea why I wrote that :P in truth though, Nix deserved it.
LegoNinjagoFangirl: Thank you! I update as much as I can, but I also have two other stories that I write ongoing. Check those out too, if you'd like.
Birthdaypi: Thank you! I'm glad that you think I portray Nya well; I was a little nervous about it. Congrats on your title winning! That's a really good idea, and I'll get to writing it as soon as I can, and probably include it into the next chapter. I already have tons of ideas for it.
Wafflegirl0304: Thank you! I'm enjoying having you as a beta reader!
Nya2468: I'm glad to give you inspiration, it makes me feel all mushy inside. As long as you don't follow my work too closely, I'm absolutely happy about it.
NinjaMeap: Sorry to hear about that. Please, don't be sad that your title wasn't chosen, it was a good one and the result was as close as it could be. Also, you still get to commission me for a piece of Ninjago FF, so I look forward to hearing what you'd like.
Guest: I will, don't worry, but I thank you for your enthusiasm!
I got so many reviews! Yay! Keep them coming, because I love each and every one of them!
So, guys, I know not too much really happened in this chapter, but don't worry! Next chapter, the ninja will get inside the base! Ooh, we're getting so close to the climax! I'm so excited to break your hearts when all the stuff I've got planned goes down! Oh, I can already see all the upset reviews. Just kidding! It may or may not upset you, I really have no idea how you're going to react, but I promise you it's going to be exciting!
I think that's it from me! Have a great day!
KatyLynne.
