A/N: Here's one! Sorry I didn't get it posted last night!
More below!
-Apollo-
Was it possible to go into shock as a god? I wanted to blast myself to pieces. I had so many chances to tell her. Addie never deserved to be hurt like that. She did not deserve what we did.
I stared at the spot she had vanished at. I don't think I would ever forget the way she looked at me. She hated crying but her eyes swam with angry tears. Her complexion had paled, and her expression looked more fragile than a sliver of glass. When I closed my eyes, I saw her. I feared that the delicate trust I had worked so hard to build was gone now, and I could not blame her.
I had seen Addie weak. I had seen Addie sad. I had never seen her broken.
What had we done?
When Addie left, it was like a bomb went off. The marble floor of the throne room was covered in a webbing of cracks, fanning out from where Addie had stood. The two columns that were nearest to her had been blasted to rubble, and the doors were ripped off their hinges.
Ares was lifting himself onto his chair, silent rage emanating from him.
"She wasn't bound," Ares snapped. "How could she not be bound!?"
"We should have killed her a long time ago," Hephaestus muttered.
"No one is killing Euadne," I said harshly. It was silent for a few moments. I looked up, examining the others. Artemis was pale, looking down at her feet. Athena, Dionysus and Hermes looked the most uncomfortable I had ever seen them. Poseidon was looking at Ares, the ghost of anger in his eyes. Ares was muttering to himself, clearly irate. The prick deserved it. The others looked strangely blank, lost in thought.
"How did she find out?" Athena muttered. "Who removed the bind? She wouldn't have done it."
"I'm afraid that I am responsible for one of those," a male voice rang out. I looked to the doors, and for a second I was confused. I knew instantly who he was even thought I had never met him. Orion leaned against the doors, his arms crossed over his chest. I could immediately pick out the differences between him and his sister. Orion had the same color eyes as Addie, but where hers were warm and tranquil, his were cold and calculating. He had a cocky sneer on his face, and his eyes glinted mischievously. Where Addie always looked like the essence of good, Orion looked like the epitome of evil.
Zeus stood, summoning his lightning bolt. He shot a bolt toward Orion, and bright white light filled my vision. I heard it hit, and I felt the surge of energy that crackled through the room. A harsh laughter filled the room, and Orion moved further in it. The bolt had not harmed him at all.
"You honestly think I was actually stupid enough to come here in the flesh?"
I noticed for the first time that he seemed a little transparent, a prismatic quality to him. It was like an Iris message in the flesh. I could only suppose this was some form of magic. He glanced at Poseidon, the sneer becoming even more evident.
"Hello, Father. Been a long time."
"What are you doing here, Orion?" Poseidon replied carefully. You could feel the anger brimming just underneath his surface. Just like when Addie was angry.
"Oh, I just came to fill in the gaps for you," he said as he put his hands behind his back. "Maybe rub this in your faces. And I have to say, it is extremely satisfying." The grin he had on his face was absolutely diabolical.
"You don't have that kind of power to free her," Athena ventured.
"Of course, I don't. Gaia did it, although it is temporary. She is awfully interested in my sister. A wild card like her, someone as strong as she is, is a very valuable asset. And after what you did to her," he scoffed, glancing around the room. His eyes fell on Ares, pure malice lighting his face. "After what you did to her, I'm sure she won't think twice."
"What are you talking about?" Poseidon asked him, his voice full of steel.
"About my beloved sister joining us. Gaia will rise. She will free my sister from your grasp. Addie will learn what she is capable of, what you have hid from her. She will be your undoing, and Gaia will rule once more. No more of your selfish, interfering tactics. I've already been condemned for challenging you once, and I'm happy to do it again," he said menacingly.
"You cannot threaten us. We are gods, boy. Neither you nor your sister are anything special," Ares snapped back. Anger stirred within me, and I felt a hand on my shoulder. Hermes had come over, and gave a small shake of his head.
"Could've fooled me, Ares. You gods can never take no for an answer, can you? You just took whatever you wanted, and you all will use any excuse in the book to get it. I would kill you myself, Ares, but I'm sure she's going to want the pleasure of doing that."
Orion turned, glancing at all if us, but his eyes rested on me.
"Gaia and the Giants send their regards, and they are offering three days for your surrender. I'd consider it."
He gave one last cruel smile, his form flickered, and he was gone. Demeter groaned in frustration.
"Can't we just kill him?" she muttered.
"If we can find him, you'll be behind me," Athena snapped. "That arrogant little….now I remember why I did not like him."
Zeus cleared his throat, his face strangely blank. "You all have your assignments. Get to work," he said as he stood.
"Father?" Artemis asked tentatively. "What are we going to do about Addie?" There was a long pause, and my father glanced quickly at her.
"I will consult the fates, and we will discuss it later."
Everyone started to clear the throne room, and Artemis looked at me worriedly. Suddenly, she was at my side, pulling me behind my throne.
"Are you okay?" she asked, her tone bothered. I just looked at her, and I could only imagine what I looked like. I had not been this upset with myself in a very, very long time, not that I would ever admit it out loud. She just placed a hand on my shoulder.
"I thought you were going to tell her?" she questioned gently.
"I tried, but I was interrupted and-"
A loud and deep series of footsteps echoed throughout the chamber. I glanced back around, and the throne room was basically empty. Most of the others had gone, only two of us left besides Artemis and myself.
Poseidon marched towards Ares, a hateful glare on his face. Ares turned around, and then Poseidon punched him straight in the face. Artemis and I rushed over to pull Poseidon off of him. I stood in front of him, blocking him from my half-brother.
He was pushing against me, murderous rage in his eyes, not that I blamed him. I assumed he had put enough together from what Addie and Orion had said to figure out what Ares had been up to. Ares was bleeding, golden ichor running down the front of his face from his nose.
"Not here, not now," I murmured to him. His gaze turned towards me, and for a second, I was afraid he was going to blast me, which would have hurt… a lot. Then his eyes focused on me, and his godly glow subsided. He raised his eyebrows, and then lifted his gaze, glaring at Ares behind me.
"Touch her again, and I will personally rip you to pieces and throw you into Tartarus," Poseidon threatened Ares. He turned and left the throne room, and Artemis grabbed my hand dragging me out of throne room behind her. We vanished and reappeared at my place. It sat on the eastern edge of Olympus, just to where the sun would shine in here first as it rose. I sat down on a chair, and ran my hands worriedly through my hair.
"What are we going to do?" Artemis asked me worriedly. She was pacing in front of me, her form flickering back and forth. Lately, she had made herself look a litter older, more like she was sixteen than twelve.
"We have to find her and explain," I sighed. Why did I feel so empty? I felt like someone had carved my chest out. This was the worst feeling I had ever felt in my entire existence.
"I highly doubt she will want to listen," Artemis sighed, sitting beside me. "I knew it was a mistake. I should have just offered for her to become a Hunter before all of this happened."
"None of us were functioning properly back then, you can't blame yourself. Artemis, I can't even feel her anymore. I don't know if she is blocking us intentionally or not," I said sadly. If I was her I would have. Artemis just leaned her head against my shoulder, wrapping one of her arms around mine.
"We'll find her. I'll send the hunters out looking for her. If anyone could find her and calm her down, Thalia could. We both know Addie won't do anything rash," she added, but her voice sounded uncertain.
"I hope she wouldn't, but I wouldn't blame her if she did."
Footsteps echoed on the marble floor, and I looked up to see Athena staring at both of us.
"We have a problem," she said quickly.
"What problem?"
Athena bit her lip, looking mightily uncomfortable. Apprehension built up in me and fear pooled in the emptiness in my chest.
"I overheard Ares and some of the others. They are going to kill Euadne."
-Percy-
I wondered what had bothered Addie so much that she had to leave the way she did. I tried to get a description from Piper, but she said the guy who had attacked her did it from behind. She only heard his voice, and she did not recognize it.
I knew Addie could take care of herself, but I just had a bad feeling. I walked below deck, to find Annabeth, Hazel, and Jason looking at the Sibylline books.
"Any luck yet?"
Annabeth shook her head, flipping another page. "No, not yet. I think we've looked through over a hundred of these already. I can't even find the great prophecy."
"You'll find it eventually," I encouraged her. She offered a small smile, while flipping another page. She was examining the page on the right while Hazel was looking at the one on the left.
"Have we started moving again?" Jason asked me. Lightning flashed through the portholes on the ship, followed by a peal of thunder. "Guess that answers my question," he grumbled. Ever since Addie had left, a storm had been raging. Leo had to land the ship before the winds and lightning tore us to pieces. Jason had tried to control it, but he said it was like trying to control a horde of Venti spirits. He couldn't do much with them.
We had landed in the middle of a field to ride out the storm, and Hazel molded the mist around us so that no one would be able to see us. With the storm, I doubted anyone could see us anyways, but it was better to be safe than sorry. I eased into the kitchen, looking for something to drink.
"I think I found it!" Hazel called out. I turned back around, looking at the table. Hazel's fingers were running over the lines on one of the pages. She cleared her throat and began to read,
"The banes of the Olympians, all alive and strong
And earth mother prepared with her monstrous throng
The Olympian's failure will begin the end
The earth queen to rise and ascend
The sacrifice's life holds the key for defeat
The truth revealed, the path now complete."
There was the longest silence in the cabin. We looked at each other, trying to discern what the words meant.
"What does that even mean?" Jason said, agitation coloring his voice. He looked up at the sky. "You know, you could make this a tiny bit easier!"
"Jason Grace, did you just lose your temper?" I asked him mockingly. He just rolled his eyes and sighed.
"What if it means the sacrifice Gaia will use to reawaken?" Annabeth suggested.
"Or it could mean that someone has to sacrifice themselves to defeat her," Hazel added, worry in her voice.
We all looked at each other, the worry becoming more clear as I looked at them.
"Look, take it from someone who has already had one prophecy about them. I thought I was going to die, and I was wrong. Chiron is right. We should use this for hints, but not waste our time worrying over it. After all, what's going to happen will happen," I finished.
They nodded their heads, but the worried expression did not leave their faces.
"Annabeth? Jason and I have this for a while. Why don't you get some fresh air?" Hazel offered. Annabeth sighed and got up from the table. I offered her my hand, and she took it. We walked down the stairs to the stables. Now that the Parthenos was gone, the stable was back to the open space it was before. We were hovering on leg like structures about ten feet or so above the ground. I opened the bay doors, and the smell of fresh rain invaded my nose. The air smelled both clean and metallic. We sat down on the hay, and Annabeth leaned her head against my shoulder. She seemed really tired and put out.
"What's wrong?" I asked her. She turned her head into me and squeezed my hand.
"I just don't see how we are going to do this. How we are all going to get out alive. I can't figure it out. I don't like not having a plan. I always have a plan."
"Hey, we are going to be fine. We can do this," I tried to assure her. In truth, I wasn't feeling very optimist at the moment. If the sacrifice was the key Addie talked about, then we were kind of screwed. I didn't want anyone to die. After what we had all been through, it was just too much. We were quiet for a long time. Annabeth started softly snoring against my shoulder, and I wrapped my arms tighter around her. I would not lose her again. I did not want to lose anyone.
There just had to be a way to do this.
Sorry to leave you guys hanging for so long! I am a terrible person! I have been swarmed with finals this week, so I am using this weekend to catch up on my writing! I'm working on a few other stories, so please be out on the lookout for them! I plan on posting at least one more chapter today, and a one shot! The first will be about Artemis finding out about Addie! :D
This chapter caused serious problems for me. I rewrote it about 4 times, because I just couldn't get the dialog where I wanted it to be. I hope ya'll are pleased with it!
If you have any ideas about the one-shots besides the ones I mentioned in previous chapters, I'd love to hear them!
Please tell me you reactions and theories you have in your head! I love to hear from everyone, so let me know what you think! You guys are the best, and you have given me the inspiration and push I needed to keep this story going.
Thanks again, and please review! ;)
