The Land Before Time XIV
The Final Chapter
-02 The Mourning After-
Littlefoot almost couldn't believe his eyes, but in his heart he knew it was real.
"Chomper!" he said as he excitedly stomped his feet.
"Woah!" Chomper explaimed as the earth shook "Foot's not so little anymore!".
Littlefoot looked down at his enormous feet and the two old friends began laughing. They talked the entire way back to the sleeping place, catching up and reminessing. Yet another startled yelp drew Littlefoot's attention to the ground below. He looked down to see the same terrified little longneck gaping at Chomper and shaking nervously.
"Sh- Sh- Sha-" the little one stuttered.
"Don't worry!" Little foot said attempting to calm him, "This is Chomper, hes a friend!".
The little longneck's expression slowly but surely turned from horror to awe. "Wait" he gasped "the Chomper?"
"You've heard of me?" Chomper asked.
"Everyone in the great valley knows about you!"
Chomper seemed flustered, as if a little emberassed by the young one's excitment. Littlefoot had told the story many times of how he and his friends had hatched Chomper from an egg, he told it well enough that Chomper had become somewhat of a local legend among the young ones.
"You should go back to sleep" Littlefoot said, "The great circle won't rise in the sky for a long time yet, and I'm sure Chomper is tired from his journey".
"Actually I-" Chomper started. He was interupted by a less than gentle nudge from Littlefoot's tale.
"Right?" Littlefoot said.
"Oh" Chomper replied, "Yeah! So tired actually!" Chomper tried his best to fake a yawn, sounding more like a wounded animal than a tired Sharptooth.
Littlefoot awoke that next morning rather tired. He had been up most of the night, as horrifying nightmares plagued his sleep.
He noticed that Chomper was already gone, and decided to go down to the watering hole to see if he was catching up with Sara and the others. Littlefoot pushed his way through the trees toward the water, expecting to see some old friends paling around, but instead everyone was gathered in a circle. There was something in the middle that Littlefoot couldnt quite make out. Chomper was nowhere in sight, but he saw the yellow scales on Sara's tail sticking out of the ground and made his way over.
"Hey Sara" he said nudging her, "Whats going-" Sara turned to face Littlefoot, he expression blank, yet painful. For a moment Littlefoot was confused, but then he saw it. In the middle of the circle, it almost didn't seem real, you could just barely make out the features of the young longneck among the blood and torn.
The sight of it turned Littlefoot's blood to ice. The little one he had been talking to the night before, now nothing more than a shade of what he was. The world around him began to spin, and the broken bloody mess of a longneck was the last thing Littlefoot could see before everything went black.
