Natalie walked down the stairs, her hair damp from her shower and her healing wound was burning from being in contact with water. But, it was so nice to be able to wash the smell of hospital from her hair and body. Reaching the bottom of the stairs, Natalie was greeted by a wonderful smell coming from the kitchen, and she knew that Marina was already marking her place in Bobby's kitchen.
She had to force herself from stepping into the kitchen first, since she wanted to see Bobby. Peering her head into the living room, she found Bobby sitting at his desk, reading through a few papers that didn't interest her. She walked over to him, her hand resting against his shoulder. Bobby looked up, his face relaxing once he realized it was Natalie, before taking hold of her hand on his shoulder. "How are you feeling?"
Natalie shrugged offhandedly. "Good. Better than I was when I left the hospital." Natalie walked over to the chair across from his desk, his hold on her hand dropping.
"And, how are you Bobby? I mean, after Ellen and Jo...I didn't really want to ask you. Since, I kind of knew how you felt."
Bobby let out a long sigh, his finger tapping on his desk. "Fine, I guess. But, I'll tell you one thing. This whole thing that happened on the last hunt, made my anxiety levels to shoot up."
Natalie let out a sigh and rolled her eyes. Already feeling herself becoming tired of hearing this over and over again. "I am never going to live this down, am I? You, Dean, Sam and everyone else, are going to constantly remind me." She stated bluntly.
Bobby nodded his head, "Of course we are. This was one of the reasons why I didn't want you to get into this job." He rubbed at the stress lines on his forehead, "But, you made it. Despite, how close of a call you had."
Natalie huffed in relief. "At least you see it that way. Any other hunts I go on, I'm going to be watched like a hawk by Sam and Dean." Natalie saw the look on Bobby's face, knowing that he agrees with Sam and Dean, and she bit the inside of her cheek. "But, that's what I get."
Marina walked into the living room, a plate in hand, and set it down in front of Bobby. "There you go Bobby. Nad, yours is in the kitchen." Marina said, before making her way back into the kitchen.
Natalie looked at Bobby, smirking at Marina, before getting up and walking out of the living room. Sitting down at the table, Marina quickly placed a plate in front of Natalie, and she smiled at the grilled ham and swiss sandwich.
"I see you haven't dimmed down your talent for making these." Natalie said, pulling the plate closer to her.
Marina walked over to the table caryying her own plate and sat down, "These were always your favorite. I remember you would constantly ask me to make them for you..."
"And you would always say no, because you said that I would tire of them...which is not possible." Natalie added.
Marina laughed, "Because that was the truth Nad."
Natalie scoffed. "No it's not. I can never get tired of these." She said, weighing the sandwich in her hands before taking a bite out of it. "And they still taste amazing." She added, her mouth full of food.
Marina cringed lightly and smiled. "Chew your food, Nad."
Natalie closed her mouth and began to slowly chew her food, her eyes wandering around the kitchen. Her eyes settled on Marina's phone, which was sitting only a few inches away from her on the table. Her phone lights up with a notification and Natalie gazed at it curiously, seeing a name she hadn't seen before. Natalie quickly grabbed it and read the name, Ethan. She looked up at Marina, a smirk growing on her lips. "Who is Ethan, Mari?"
Marina looked up with a surprised look on her face, her eyes moving to the space where her phone no longer was, and looked back, only to see it in her sister's hand. She sat up from her seat, grabbing for her phone, only to have Natalie yank back from her grasp. "Nad! Come on give me my phone back!"
Natalie's mouth opened into a huge smile, as she continued holding the phone back from Marina's hand. "Apparently, it's someone you don't want me knowing about!" Natalie said, her voice laced with nothing but, amusement.
"Nad, seriously! Just give it back!" Marina made another advance to try and get her phone, only to fail miserably. "You are acting like a little child, Nad! Taking people's stuff!"
Natalie let out a laugh, her eyes widening in amusement as she placed a hand to her chest, pretending to be offended by her sister's light accusation. "I'm not the one hiding a person from her sister, now am I?"
Marina let out a defeated sigh and plopped back down in her seat, her lips pouted and her arms folded across her chest. "Fine."
Natalie brought her arm back down, laughing lightly at her sister's pout and handed her phone back to her, which Marina took willingly. "Now. Who is he?" Natalie asked, once her laughing fit had died down.
"He is a friend of mine." Marina began.
Natalie's brows furrowed. "Friend? How come I have never heard of him before?"
Marina gave her sister a look. "Nad, since when do you ever care to know who my friends are."
Natalie thought for a moment before shrugging your shoulders. "Not at all really. Well, that's because your friends always acted like I weirded them out or something." Natalie picked up her sandwich and took another bite out of it.
Marina sighed, quickly reading through the message, before turning off the phone. "I've known Ethan for a few years, and a couple of months ago he and I..."
Natalie's face suddenly brightened at Marina's words, not needing for her sister to continue. "So you and him." Marina nodded. "Why didn't you tell me? Why did you keep it from me?" Natalie leaned towards the table.
"You were constantly busy with the jobs and...I didn't want to bother you." Marina admitted.
"Mari, seriously. You can never bother me with anything. No matter what I'm doing." Natalie added.
Bobby wheeled himself into the kitchen, his empty plate in hand. "That was really good Mari." He set the plate back down on the counter.
"So Bobby you hear that Mari found herself a guy." Natalie said, smirking at Marina's glare towards her.
Bobby turned his chair around to face him, "Well, he's gonna need me seal of approval."
Marina rolled her eyes, looking back at Natalie, already having her revenge move made up. "Should we talk about you then, Nad?"
Natalie shrugged, her brows furrowing in confusion. "Talk about what?"
"About you and Sam." Marina stated.
Natalie's eyes widened and Bobby's face froze. "You and Sam...what?" Bobby asked cautiously.
Natalie quickly looked over at Bobby and then to Marina. "Nothing...there's nothing going on between Sam and I." Natalie fought back.
Marina scoffed and hung her head back, "Come on, Nad." Natalie looked at her sister. "I saw the way you and him looked at each other before he left a couple of days ago."
Natalie began to slowly shake her head, dismissing Marina's claims. "I really don't know what you're talking about Mari." Natalie gazed over at Bobby, "There is nothing going on between Sam and I." She said before looking back at Marina. "Sam was just worried about me that's all."
Marina sighed and shook her head. "Denial."
Natalie narrowed her eyes at her sister. "What?"
"You are in denial. That's okay. That will go away soon." Marina added, taking a bite out of her sandwich.
Natalie's mouth remained open, she was still trying to process Marina's claims and that combined with Bobby's questioning look, it was all making her feel uncomfortable. "I'm not in denial." Natalie mumbled to herself, though it was still audible to Bobby and Marina.
Bobby let out a sigh and began to wheel himself back into the living room, "I never thought I would see the day when you two would be going through the 'boy' drama."
Lying on the couch, Natalie tapped her finger on her stomach, filing through Marina's words in her mind, finding herself, much to her immense annoyance, deep within her own conflicting thoughts. Now, all she could think about was Sam, and all of the different feelings that she had been experienceing. Just when she thought that she had gotten out of that little habit, something happens that causes her to relapse into her own little mental prison.
Natalie scrunched up her face and groaned in frustration, grabbing one of the couch pillows, pressed it against her face and screamed into it. Taking a breath, Natalie continued letting out her frustrated screams into the pillow, trying to get as much of it out of her system as possible.
In the midst of her venting, the sound of her phone going off halted her screams and she remained still, the pillow still lying on her face. Her hand dropped to the floor, as she began to blindly search for her phone. Her hand tapped against it and she quickly picked it up, placing it against her ear. "Hello."
"Hey, Nad. Just calling to let you know that we got done with the job in Oklahoma."
Natalie sighed at the sound of Sam's voice. "Great. I'm glad to hear it." Natalie said, though her voice was muffled due to the fact she had not removed the pillow from her face.
"Nad...are you alright? You sound a little...different."
"Oh! Yeah I am fine...just, resting. I guess you could say." Natalie responded, the sarcasm very evident in her voice.
Sam sighed on the other end. "What happened?" Already knowing that something happened while he was gone.
"I never said anything happened. I just said that I am resting, just like how you wanted me to." Natalie bit back.
"Nad, I know when something is bothering you. Tell me, what's wrong?"
Natalie removed the pillow from her face and threw it to the other end of the couch. She blew at the strands of hair that stuck to her face. "Nothing is wrong."
"Come on, Nad."
"Why? You never told me what was bothering you, so why should I?" A tense silence soon fell between them, neither of them really expecting the tension that they could feel building.
"Nad, the thing that's bothering me is something that I need to deal with myself."
Natalie crossed her free arm over her chest, "Well then, the thing that is bothering me is something that I need to deal with myself also." Her voice taking on an edgy essence.
"So you're not going to tell me."
"No. And I know that you aren't going to tell me a thing."
"No, I'm not."
"Fine, then. So don't worry about what's going on with me, alright?!"
"Fine!" Sam replied back, his voice had become slightly bitter.
"Fine!" Natalie said, ending the call then dropped her phone back on the ground.
She let out a deep breath and closed her eyes, only to feel a small sense of anger towards herself. She didn't expect to snap like that, especially towards Sam. He was just trying to help. But, that's what she's been trying to do for him the entire time she was in the hospital. Almost constantly, she asked him what was wrong and he would shut her out. Now, he was expecting her to just pour out everything that was bothering her? No, thank you. Though, she did feel guilty for how the call went.
She sat up on the couch, her eyes sweeping down to look at her phone. She began to mentally debate whether she should call him back and try to give an explanation for her behavior. Do it. Or don't do it. Natalie's mind switched from one decision to the other. If I call him back, then I need to come up with some excuse for what I said. Yet, I want him to call me back. Natalie battled out her scarce options, finding that she was only giving herself another headache.
A sigh of defeat escaped her lips, as she grabbed the pillow and laid back down on the couch. We sounded like a bickering married couple. Natalie's eyes snapped open at her little thought and she thought back to what Marina said, thinking that there might be some truth to her words. Natalie groaned as she brought the pillow back to her face, ensuing her frustrated screaming.
Yes, so another filler chapter! Though, I have to admit that I loved writing this chapter, especially the Natalie/Marina scenes and the phone conversation between Sam/Nad was also fun to write. The next chapter will also be a filler then the one after that is when we get back into the game. Don't forget to leave me a review! Xx
