"Will you all just keep your voices down. Karen's upstairs." Bobby berated the worked up group of hunters. Sam and Natalie returned after they had checked out the Sheriff's home and Mrs. Jones. Sam and Natalie's account about what had happened at Mrs. Jones' home, put Dean on the edge.
"Oh, yeah, sorry Bobby. We are all just a little tense right now." Bobby rolled his eyes at Dean's words. "Who's old lady Jones?"
"She was the first one to come up."
"Yeah, and the first one to go bad." Sam added.
Bobby brushed off Sam's accusation. "Ah, she was always a nutty broad."
Natalie scoffed at how unconcerned Bobby was about all of this. "Really. She was always nutty. This was beyond your average nutty behavior, Bobby."
Dean nodded in agreement with Natalie. "I mean she ate her husband's stomach. Was that the level of nutty she was in life?"
"No." Bobby wheeled himself over to his desk and settled in his usual spot.
"Look, Bobby, I feel for you. But you have got to acknowledge that you're not exactly seeing this straight." Dean had towards Bobby, leaning his hands against the desk. They needed Bobby to see that none of this was right, yet alone normal.
"Bobby, whether you admit or not, these things are turning. We have to stop them...all of them." Sam finally spoke up.
Bobby looked up at the three of them, seeing the deep determination in their eyes, knowing that they were committed to stopping every single one of them. Bobby lamented and pulled out his gun, setting it down on his desk. "Time to go."
Dean's brows shot up at his remark. "What?"
"You heard me." Bobby spoke, his eyes hardening as he looked at them. "Off my property."
"Or what? You'll shoot?" Sam asked in a bit of disbelief.
"If Karen turns, I will handle it my way."
Natalie walked over to Bobby's desk, stopping once she was standing next to Dean. "Bobby...this is crazy..."
"And dangerous." Dean added.
Bobby quickly cocks his gun, causing both Natalie and Dean to lean away from the desk. "I'm not gonna tell you all twice."
Dean hesitantly backed away, but Natalie stayed in her place, finding it hard to believe that Bobby was actually doing this. Dean reached out and gently took a hold of Natalie's arm, knowing that it was Dean's motion for them to leave. Natalie gave Bobby one last look before following Sam and Dean out of the house.
The Impala sped down the road, back towards town. The three of them were still on edge about Bobby's handle on all of this. "He's crazy." Natalie looked up, seeing Dean's expression from the rear view mirror, and there was no mistaking that Dean looked pissed about the whole thing.
"Dean, it's his wife." Sam said, trying to reason with him.
"So what? He goes all "Full Metal Jacket" on us? We're his family, Sam." Natalie watched Dean tighten his grip on the sterring wheel a couple of times. Knowing that he was trying to keep himself calm.
"Dean." Natalie said, though her voice was a little low, but it caught Dean's attention. "Bobby is just...not in the right head space now. Just give him time."
"Yeah, well we don't have that much time, Nad." Natalie sighed, giving up trying to get her side of the argument into the conversation, and instead settled for looking out the window.
"Look, man. Bigger fish, okay?" Sam said, trying to steer the conversation. "I mean, we got a bunch of zombies about to turn this town into a giant chew toy."
"Yeah, and he's alone in the house making pie with one of them." Dean bit back.
Sam shrugged and let out a sigh. "All right? So?"
"So!" Dean called out, glancing over at Sam briefly. "I'm gonna have to go back there and...and kill her. That's the only thing I can think of."
"If he sees you, you're dead man."
"Well, then, I guess I won't let him see me." Dean replied.
"Okay." Sam looked back at Natalie, though she didn't seem to be paying much attention, then turned back around in his seat. "I guess Nad and I will head into town, make sure that everyone is safe. Should be easy. Are you with me on that Nad?" Sam asked, but he didn't receive a reply. Sam glanced back at her and once again she wasn't listening. "Nad?" Sam called out.
Natalie quickly snapped her attention over to Sam, her brows raising in a questioning expression. "What?"
"You going to head into town with me...make sure that everyone is safe." Sam said one more time.
Natalie nodded her head quickly. "Yeah, yeah sure."
Dean looked at Natalie through the rear view mirror, a little hesitant to let her go out with Sam on this, since she seemed to be off in her own world. But, now wasn't the time for him to start second guessing. "Fine, then."
After a few more minutes of driving, Dean finally pulled the Impala to the side of the road that was only a few feet from the entrance to the neighborhood. Sam and Natalie both get out of the car and walk to the trunk.
Sam opens up the trunk and pulls out a shot gun, handing it over to Natalie, before picking one up for himself. Natalie checked the ammo inside and then cocked the gun once she was satisfied.
Sam side glanced Natalie, seeing her face had not released the tension that had been there the whole ride. "You, okay?"
Natalie didn't look up at Sam, and for a few moments, didn't say anything. "Am I supposed to be? This town is crawling with zombies that are going to turn on everyone...and Bobby is just..." Natalie's voice withered away towards the end.
Sam nodded as he began to check over his gun. "I know." Sam closed the trunk and turned to Natalie. "When this is all over, he'll be back to his senses."
Natalie nodded, her lips pursing together. "Let's just get this done." She finally spoke, before walking over to the driver side window.
Dean looked over at the two of them and gave a small nod. "You two be careful."
"We will." Sam answered. "You watch yourself when you get to Bobby's."
"Yeah..." Dean offered both Sam and Natalie a small nod before starting the car back up. He turned back onto the road, making a quick 'U' turn and speeding down the road back towards Bobby's.
The neighborhood was quiet once Sam and Natalie had made their way in. Natalie scouted the area around them, knowing that she can never be to careful. Especially, when this town is filled with zombies.
They soon came upon the Sheriff's house and Natalie took a quick glance through the window, seeing the Sheriff backing up as her son began to advance towards her. Natalie's eyes widened as she pushed Sam forward. "Sam! Go, go!"
Sam, at first glanced down at her with confusion, but hearing the panic in her voice, he ran towards the porch and threw the door open. Sam saw Jody's kid approaching her and he ran in, grabbing her arm. "Come on! Let's go!"
Jody jumped at Sam's touch and looked up at him, trying to yank her arm from his grasp. "What? No!"
Sam ushered Jody towards the door, where Natalie was now standing. "Go!"
Natalie grabbed Jody's arm and pushed her in front, allowing her a quick access out of the house. The two of them rushed down the porch steps and made their way onto the lawn.
"Wait!" Jody suddenly stopped and turned around to run back into the house, only to be stopped by Natalie. "My husband is still in there!"
Natalie braced her hand on Jody's shoulder, trying to calm her. "Okay, you need to listen—'
"No! My husband is in there!"
"Leave it!" Sam called out, as he made his way over to them. "He's dead."
Natalie looked over at Jody, seeing the horrified realization wash over her face. "That, that was not my son!"
"You're right. It wasn't." Sam walked up to Jody, his hand resting on her shoulder. "Your town is in danger. People are in danger, and we need to help them now. Can you do that for me?"
Jody looks at Sam, slowly shaking her head. "Sheriff? Can you focus for me?" Sam began to press again.
Jody swallowed down the lump in her throat and bit down on her lip. "How do we put them down?"
"The only way. Head shot." Sam answered.
"Right, then." Jody looked at both Sam and Natalie. "I see you two already have your weapons. I'll need to get some then."
"We can start by rounding up everybody we can find. Where is the safest place we can take people?" Sam asked.
"Jail." Jody simply stated.
"Right, um..." Sam hands Natalie his shotgun and the pulls out his pistol. "Just...give me a minute." Sam turned to walk back into the house.
Natalie's brows furrowed and set down the guns before she walked up behind him. "Sam." He stopped and turned to her. "What are you going to do?" But, Natalie felt that she already had an idea.
Sam's expression fell and he looked back at Jody for a moment. "Just...stay here, Nad." Sam turned around, only to have Natalie grab his arm, their eyes meeting in a silent stare. Natalie sighed and hesitantly let go of her grip, allowing Sam to walk back to the house.
Natalie stood in place, her eyes fixed on the home when the sound of a gunshot suddenly came out from the house. Natalie jumped at the sound, her eyes closing, realizing what Sam just did.
Jody and Natalie take out the guns out of the cabinet and place them down on one of the desks in the police station. The three of them had managed to gather up a decent sized group and were now getting armed.
"All right, if I hand you a gun and you see a dead person, I don't care if it's your friend, your neighbor, or your wife, you shoot for the head. That's the only way we survive."
"Wait, you mind telling us who the hell you are?" A man finally asked.
"Friend of Bobby Singer's." Sam answered.
"Town drunk."
Sam looked up at the man. "I-I...uh I thought..." Sam motioned towards Digger. "I thought he was the town drunk."
"Who told you that?"
Sam's face fell in realization. "Bobby Singer...look just stay sharp. I'll watch the door."
Natalie began to put ammo in the guns then would pass them onto Jody, who gave them to people she knew would be able to handle a gun. Once all of the guns were loaded and dispersed, Natalie took a moment and leaned against the desk. Running her hands down her face.
Jody walked back over to the desk, and began to load her own gun. A silence fell between the two women, making Natalie think that she needed to start some conversation. But, she wasn't really the right person to do that. But, the silence between them was really killing her.
Natalie cleared her throat and folded her hands across her chest. "So, uh...how are you doing?" Jody continued her loading of the ammo, not saying a word to her. Natalie felt her body slump in it's posture. "Sorry. Not really the best time to engage in a real conversation."
Jody cocked her gun and set it back down on the desk, and uttered a small laugh. "I don't think anyone is suppose to be 'good' during something like this." Jody finally said.
Natalie looked over at her, a faint smile spreading her lips. "I know what you mean. All of this just...don't really know how to react to all of this."
"Guess that makes two of us." Jody turned around and mimicked Natalie's position, her arms folding over her own chest. Jody looked over at the girl curiously. "So, you know Bobby Singer. How long?"
Natalie looked over at the woman, grateful that she was now trying to start a conversation. "Pretty much my whole life. He and my dad were...really good friends. He's been like a dad to me...since my father passed away."
Jody nodded her head sympathetically. "I'm sorry about your father."
"Thanks. It's been a few years and I thought that I would be over it by now..." Natalie slowly shook her head. "But, I'm not. Though I don't really...dwell on it as much as I use to. It's just been a very...hectic few years."
"Nad."
Natalie turned around, seeing Sam motioning her over. She looked over at Jody. "Excuse me." Natalie walked around the desk and made her way over to Sam. "What's up?"
Sam opened the door to the station slightly. "Look."
Natalie's brows furrowed at him, but she peered through the opening, seeing the the streets were completely empty. "Where are they? I mean shouldn't they be all out on the streets by now?"
"They should...but they aren't here." Sam murmured, before closing the door.
Natalie looked up at him. "So, where could they be? I mean if they all aren't here, then they have to be in the same place, somewhere else, right?"
Sam shook his head, trying to come up with his own theories about his. "Most likely. But, where would they all go? It has to be somewhere that has a significance."
Natalie began to feel her phone vibrating from her pocket and she quickly pulled it out and put it against her ear. "Hello?"
"Hey, Nad. How's everything looking down town?" Dean's voice came from the other end.
Natalie sighed in relief. "Um...well, I guess good and not good, depending which way you look at it."
"Why? What happened?"
"Well..." Natalie opened the door again, looking out into the streets and still seeing nothing. "They aren't here. All of the zombies...the streets are completely empty."
"They are nowhere. Not even one?"
"No. It's silent."
"Where are you now?"
"Sam, Jody and I are held up at the police station with some people—' A noise at the other end of the phone line forced Natalie to stop talking. There was nothing but silence when the sound of a groan and a scuffle ensuing, came from the other end. "Dean?" Natalie spoke, but the line went dead.
Natalie pulled the phone away from her ear, feeling her heart picking up it's pace. She looked up at Sam, seeing the expectant look in his eyes. "I think we need to get back to Bobby's."
"Why? What did Dean say?" Sam asked.
"W-well nothing...I just heard what sounded like people fighting...and then the line went dead."
Sam nodded quickly then motioned for Jody to come over. "Hey. We need to get back to Bobby's."
"Why?" Jody asked.
"I got a call from Dean and it sounded like there was someone he was fighting. Something isn't right here. The streets are clear and then I hear that from the other end..." Natalie said, already coming to her own conclusion.
Jody seemed to be on the same thought as Natalie and nodded. "I'm guessing you two need a ride. My car is right outside. Just let me tell the others." Jody turned around and made her way to the others.
Natalie inched closer to Sam. "If the zombies aren't here and after what I heard from the call...I guess the zombies are making their way to Bobby's."
"I guess so, but, why? Why would they all go there?" Sam questioned.
Natalie shrugged. "I guess we are about to find out."
Jody parked her car towards the entrance to Bobby's salvage yard. They decided to go on foot for the remainder of the way, thinking that a running car would just catch their attention.
They quietly walked up the dirt path, their eyes keeping a look out for any of the zombies that might be still lurking in the salvage yard.
A faint noise coming from the cluttered piled cars, caught Natalie's attention. She looked towards the direction in which she heard the noise and looked over at Sam and Jody, who were leading the way by a few feet. Natalie bit down on her lip, realizing that she was going to investigate the source of the noise and accepted the fact that she was an idiot for not saying anything.
Natalie raised her gun and walked through the opening of two cars. She raised her gun a little more, keeping it close to her, as her eyes scouted the small area behind her. Another noise came from behind, this time much closer a lot louder. She quickly turned around, finding that there was nothing but more cars.
Natalie slowly backed away from the car where the noise had come from. Then slowly turned around to head back down in the direction she was going. Natalie only had a brief moment to see her assailant before she was attacked and her body fell backwards onto the ground.
She pressed her gun against the zombie's chest, using all of her strength to keep it away from her as much as possible. The zombie continued pushing against her, it's face coming in close proximity of her own. It's mouth opened, allowing a stream of substance that Natalie had no clue to what it was, soak into her shirt and stream down the side of her face.
Natalie's eyes cringed in disgust at the feeling of this substance covering any part of her body. She pressed the gun against it's chest one last time, finally able to push the zombie off of her body. She turned the gun around, aimed the barrel at it's head and fired a shot. It's head exploded partially, the flesh bits flying everywhere, including on Natalie.
Natalie groaned in disgust as she began to wipe away the mucus substance from her neck. The sound of heavy and panic filled footsteps etched closer to where she was, and Sam and Jody rounded the corner of cars.
"Nad!" Sam called out as she ran over to her, taking a hold of her arm. "Are you alright?"
Natalie wiped her hands on the grass, hoping to get rid of the residue from her hands and looked up at Sam. "Uh. Yeah I guess." Natalie pushed herself back onto her feet, with the help from Sam. "Sorry. I wandered off and got myself into trouble."
Sam sighed, his eyes scanning over her shirt which was now soaked with zombie fluids. "Yeah and I wasn't paying attention."
Natalie smiled faintly. "Well, let's get to the house. Pretty sure they are all in there."
The three of them wasted no time and ran all the way back towards the house. The front door had been busted open and Sam approached the opening, motioning for Natalie and Jody to stand back. All three of them could hear a commotion coming from the kitchen. They quickly rush in and run to where the noises were coming from.
They found the zombies trying to get Dean and Bobby, who were stuck in one of the closets. Sam raised his gun, cueing Jody and Natalie to do the same. "Get down!" Sam called out, before the three of them opened fire. Each shot, hitting the zombies in the head. Some were double head shots, some of the hits would take off the entire head while others only shot off partial parts.
Natalie let off a few more rounds before ceasing fire and gazed down at the pile of dead bodies. She looked up at Dean, seeing the shocked yet relieved look on his face. "You three came just in time."
Natalie smiled and tilted her head to the side. "You're welcome."
Dean lightly scoffed at her words. "I had it all under control."
Day had finally come after a night that felt like would go on forever. Natalie had never been so happy to see sunlight stream through the windows. She walked into her room, drying her hair with a towel.
The boys allowed her to wash up, especially after she explained her little scuffle with a zombie, which Dean was quick to berate her for wandering off. Though, Natalie simply brushed off their worried words. She handled the situation relatively well and she was still alive.
Natalie grabbed her jacket and quickly slid it on before heading back downstairs. She walked through the doorway and saw Jody making her way towards her. Natalie walked off the porch and towards Jody. "You gonna be alright?" Natalie asked.
Jody offered her a small smile and shrugged. "I guess I'll be as okay as you expect me to be." Natalie smiled faintly. "Thanks, for all your help Natalie." Jody reached out her hand, which Natalie took.
"It's no problem, Sheriff. Take care of yourself."
"You, too."
Natalie gave her a small nod, before making her way over to where the boys were standing near a pyre. She stopped next to Sam, her eyes fixing on the burning pyre.
"So, thinking maybe I should apologize for losing my head back there." Bobby finally spoke.
"Bobby, you don't owe us anything." Sam began to explain.
"Hey, look, I don't know squat from shinola about love, but...at least you got to spend five days with her, right?" Dean interrupted.
"Right. And that just makes things about a thousand times worse. She was the love of my life. How many times do I got to kill her?"
Natalie gazed down at Bobby, her eyes emanating sympathy, and she rested her hand against his shoulder. Bobby reached up and took a hold of her hand. "Are you going to be okay?"
"You three should know...karen told me why Death was here. She told me why Death took a stroll through the cemetery. He came for me."
"Why would he come for you?" Dean questioned.
"Because I've been helping you sons of bitches. I'm one of the reasons you're still saying no to Lucifer, Sam."
"So, was this like an act against your life?" Natalie asked.
"I don't know if they wanted to take my life or...my spirit. Either way, they wanted me out of the way.
Natalie walked out onto the porch with two beers in her hand and made her way over to the Impala, where Saw was leaning against it. She handed him a beer and he smiled in thanks, as she leaned next to him.
"So, um...about what you said yesterday..." Sam looked over at her. "...that we should talk about what happen with the whole Famine and...demon blood. You're right." Sam raised his brows in surprise. "It's not something we can just brush off. Might as well talk about it."
Sam nodded, taking another drink from his beer. "It was never something I wanted you to know, Nad...let alone see it."
"It wasn't your fault Sam. It was Famine. He made you hungry for it. You couldn't control yourself." Natalie offered.
"It still doesn't make me feel better. The look on your face..." Sam shook his head at the memory. "I don't think it's something I'll ever forget."
Natalie sighed, setting her drink down on the ground. "I'll admit it...I was scared. Hell, I was horrified. You know, it's one thing to know about your thing with demon blood...but to see it. But, I knew that you weren't doing it willingly. It's not your fault Sam. And if you think that it changes my view of you, well it doesn't."
Sam looked over at her, an expression of disbelief in his eyes. "You know, Nad, you are probably more understanding than I deserve."
Natalie gave Sam a look, before nudging him in the shoulder. "Don't say that. You don't give yourself a lot of credit. So you aren't perfect...no one is. But, you are a really good person Sam. And the demon blood, is just a flaw that you need to get through."
Sam offered Natalie a smile, feeling somewhat better now that they had talked about it, but he still couldn't shred that feeling of guilt and shame. Though, he made sure that this wasn't visible to her.
Natalie picked up her beer and opened it, taking a quick drink from the bottle. She then hooked her arm through Sam's and leaned her head on his shoulder. Her mind bustling with the events of the previous night.
Hope you all enjoyed! Don't forget to leave me a review! Xx
