A/N: Here is the next chapter for you all! I decided to do something different with Natalie, while Sam and Dean were in heaven. I thought since she had already been shot, I'll give her a break. Hope you all enjoy it!
Disclaimer: I do not own Supernatural.
The restaurant was buzzing with life as waitresses were taking orders and people were standing around for their food to be ready. Natalie was one of them. She had gotten up earlier than usual and decided to take a walk. It gave her a chance to be by herself, not that she didn't like being around Sam and Dean. Now, she was able to run through everything that had happened. Getting out of the hospital, going back in time to stop Anna, dealing with Famine and of course the zombies. Going on this walk, Natalie was able to recollect herself and put her mind at ease.
She looked down at her phone, seeing that she still had time to get Sam and Dean some breakfast, so she stopped by a small restaurant in town. Natalie walked up to the counter, once her order was called, and grabbed the bag, smiling in thanks. Her phone began to go off and she quickly pulled it out of her pocket, seeing that it was her aunt and answered it. "Aunt Clara?"
"Hey, Nad. It's been a while since we last spoke."
Natalie smiled and walked out of the restaurant. "I know. Sorry, I've just been really...busy I guess you could say. But, I'm sure Mari has been telling you that I am fine."
"She keeps me up to date with how you are. How are you by the way? I mean I know it's been a little bit since you got injured."
"Uh, it's good. It's healed almost completely, so that's good." Natalie pressed her tongue against the side of her cheek. "Now, that I have this chance. Why didn't you tell me that you were going after the demon?"
Clara sighed on the other end, clearly not wanting to have this conversation. "Nad, you were out and I didn't want you being involved with it anyways."
Natalie scoffed and shook her head in annoyance. "I pretty much pieced this together...I wanted to go after this thing, Aunt Clara."
"Nad, we haven't even found it yet. The search is turning up in various dead ends and we haven't had a hit in weeks now."
Natalie went quiet at hearing the tiredness in her Aunt's voice. "I'm sorry...obviously, you're really exhausted by all of this."
"I am. But, I do have people helping me. I'll tell you one thing. Being back out on the road, trying to hunt this thing down...it's making me remember things I have thought about for a long time."
Natalie smiled faintly. "What? Like the hunts you went on with dad?"
"That and many other things that I have managed to forget."
Natalie hummed and looked up, surprised that she was already reaching the motel they were staying at. She stopped when she saw someone standing in the doorway of their motel room, her eyes narrowed to get a better look when she realized it was Castiel. "Um, Aunt Clara, I need to go. I'll call you later."
"Okay, Nad. Be careful. Love you."
"Love you too." Natalie said into the phone before ending the call and putting the phone back in her pocket. She walked through the parking lot and down the outside corridor towards their room. Castiel had turned around and was now staring at her as she made her way to him.
Natalie gave him a confused smile. "Hey, Cas. How did you find us?"
Castiel gazed at Natalie, his eyes staring into hers, though she couldn't make out what he was thinking. "Bobby."
Natalie nodded her head. "Right, yeah, I talked to him earlier. Okay, so...why are you here?"
Castiel hesitated, his mind trying to search for what to say. "I came here...to talk with Sam and Dean."
"Oh, they're awake. Good because I got them food and I don't want it getting cold." Natalie went to walk past him, but his voice stopped her.
"Natalie." She looked up at him upon hearing a slight urgence in his voice. "There is something that I want to talk to you about."
"Okay. Let's go inside—'
"No." Castiel suddenly declared, causing Natalie to gaze at him confusingly. "I was hoping we could talk out here..." Castiel looked around them. "Or possibly somewhere else."
Natalie furrowed her brows and scoffed. "Cas. Why can't we just talk inside? I'm sure Dean and Sam won't mind." Natalie walked forward only to be stopped my Castiel holding her back.
"That's not a good idea, Natalie." Castiel warned.
Natalie looked up at him and began to get annoyed with the fact that she couldn't read his expression. "Cas, what's going on?" Natalie turned her head and peered over his shoulder seeing a sight that made her heart stop.
Natalie sucked in a breath as she dropped the bag in her hand and pushed Castiel aside, rushing into the room. Dean and Sam were lying in their beds, their chests bleeding from fresh wounds, the walls and headboard had been colored in their blood. Her eyes erratically switched from Dean to Sam, thinking whether this was real or just a dream...a horrible dream.
Natalie walked over to Dean, her fingers pressing against his neck, feeling for a pulse, but found none. She gazed down in his eyes and nothing but an empty blackness stared back at her. Natalie looked down at Dean's chest, his blood continuously seeping through his shirt. Her hand raised over it, gently pressed her right palm against his wound, feeling the blood sticking to her skin.
She turned to Sam and slowly walked over to his side, casting a quick glance to Dean, before sitting down next to Sam. Her one hand lightly pressed against the wound on his chest, covering her hand in blood, while she used her free one to look for a pulse. Just like Dean, she didn't find one.
She brushed away a few strands of his hair, gazing down at his pale face. Natalie could feel a lump beginning to form in her throat and her eyes brimmed with tears that stung. She couldn't believe that this was happening. She had left earlier than usual to take a walk and now she returns to find that Sam and Dean were dead.
Her eyes lowered to the wound on Sam's chest and her face suddenly contorted with anger. She stood up from the bed and turned to Castiel. She pointed at them with her bloodied hand, her breathing had turned into angry huffs. "Who did this?"
Castiel slowly shook his head, showing that he really didn't know, but that wasn't good enough for Natalie. She slowly approached him. "Who the hell did this?!" She seethed as tears began to spill onto her cheeks.
"I don't know Natalie. That's why I am here. To make sure that you were fine." Castiel said.
"What do you mean? How did you even know they were dead?" Natalie cried out.
"It's a...complex thing to explain."
Natalie's eyes narrowed at Castiel. "I'm listening."
"Natalie, now is not the time. I came here to make sure that you weren't..." Castiel stopped, his eyes looking over at Sam and Dean briefly.
Natalie huffed and pressed her tongue against the side of her cheek. "Well, then. Now that you're here. Fix it."
Castiel's face fell. "Natalie, I can't—'
"No! I don't want to hear that Cas! Fix it! You need to fix this! Bring them back somehow. You have to do something!"
"I can't do anything to bring them back Natalie." Castiel's voice had rose in its volume, showing his patience with handling this was starting to slip.
Natalie slowly backed away from Castiel, raising her shaking hand to her forehead. Her cheeks were now wet from her tears and her eyes were becoming swollen. "Cas, we need to do something. Tell me that there is something we can do."
Castiel swallowed down his growing frustration and raised up his hands in a calming gesture and slowly approached her. "Natalie. I will do everything I can. But, until then, I need you to come with me."
Natalie's eyes widened at Castiel's remark. Her lips curved into an emotionless smile and she let out a pained laugh. "Calm down? You want me to calm down! Dean and Sam are lying in their beds dead, Cas! I can't calm down!"
Castiel stopped his approach and lowered his arms to his side. "Nad. Please, don't stay here." For a very small moment all of Natalie's anger and grief washed away at the notion of Castiel calling her Nad. For some reason it amused her since he had always called her Natalie. She never really thought of Castiel as someone who would use nicknames. "Let me take you to Bobby's." Castiel reached out to touch her forehead.
She quickly backed away, her small moment of amusement had disappeared and she shook her head. "I'm not going anywhere. I'm going to stay here while you figure out a way to bring them back."
"Nad, you don't need to look at this any longer. Let me get you out of here." Natalie shook her head vigorously. Castiel sighed, making it look as if he had accepted her choice, but, soon he advanced towards her and pressed two fingers against her forehead.
Natalie gripped onto his arm in an attempt to stop him, but felt her eyes grow heavy. A tingling numbness speedily crept up her legs, and then dispersed out in streams once it reached her torso. Natalie felt her legs give out and she fell against Castiel, feeling his arm wrap around her, supporting her weight in his hold.
Castiel carefully adjusted his hold on her, turning her onto her back that was now resting against his forearm. Natalie tried to force her eyes to stay open, but blobs of blackness began to clutter her vision and the heaviness was making her succumb to this 'sleep' that she was being entranced into. Her red and swollen eyes finally gave in to the heaviness and closed, allowing her a sense of peace. But, there was one last thing she heard, something that stayed in the forefront of her mind.
"I'm sorry. I will do what I can."
The sun streamed through the windows, casting a warm glow throughout the room. Natalie slowly woke herself up and stretched out her arms, feeling a soft bed beneath her. Her eyes slowly opened, blinking several times to adjust to the brightness. Her body froze as she scanned the room around her, before slowly pushing herself into a sitting position.
Her mouth had fallen agape in the process, for she already knew where she was. Natalie pulled the covers away from her body and swung her legs over the edge of her bed, standing up, she walked over to the window and opened it. The breeze immediately hit her face and the sound of waves filled in through the window. I'm back at Dennis. Natalie thought to herself as she closed the window.
The sound of voices coming from downstairs caught her attention, turning to face the door, which was opened slightly ajar, she saw someone walk past it. Natalie slowly walked over to the door, grabbed the handle and pulled open the door. Her head peered out for a moment, before she stepped fully out in the hallway. The house that they lived in at Dennis was exactly how she remembered it. The hallway that led to the bedrooms was painted a dull beige, but the pictures on the walls compensated for the boring color. Pictures from trips that her father took them on, and from their multiple cruises on her Uncle's boat.
Natalie eyes fixed on one picture and she approached the wall, grabbing a hold of the framed picture and holding it in her hands. It was an older photo of them and Natalie only needed a moment to recognize when it was taken. Their last day in Dennis, they spent it out on the bay, enjoying their last moment with their home, before having to leave. Natalie smiled at the photo, her finger tracing the outline of the frame, then placed it back on it's spot on the wall.
Why would I be at my home in Dennis?
"Nad?" A voice came from the end of the hallway.
Natalie felt her body rush with familiarity at the sound of that voice. She turned her head and looked down the hallway, her body going numb, at the sight of her brother looking at her. Natalie let out a shaky breath as she quickly made her way to him and wrapped her arms around him in a tight hold. Natalie knew that all of this wasn't real, how could it? But, it felt so real. The house, the noises and this hug. It all felt so real.
"Hey, Nad. What's up with the tight hugging?" Andrew teased lightly, as he wrapped his arms around her.
Being able to hug her brother again and hearing him talk to her, it was enough to cause her eyes to brim with tears. Natalie tightened her hold, burying her face in his shoulder, trying to swallow down the lump that was forming in her throat, and her shoulders began to shake.
Andrew noticed this and began to gently rub her back, not knowing why she was like this. "Nad. What's up?" Andrew asked quietly.
Natalie shook her head, holding onto him for a few more moments, then, hesitantly, pulled away, seeing the concerned look in his eyes. She smiled and wiped at her eyes. "It's nothing. It's just that..." Natalie paused, pursing her lips together, feeling another round of tears beginning to form. "Am I not allowed to hug my brother?" She asked, her voice trembling towards the end.
Andrew's brows furrowed, yet a smile brightened his face. "Yeah, you can. I just don't get why you're crying."
Natalie shook away his words and once again wrapped her arms around him. "It's nothing. I'm just having one of those days."
Andrew smiled and rubbed her back. "Okay, well, maybe a ride on the boat will cheer you up." Natalie couldn't say anything in that moment and instead settled for a nod. "Good." Andrew pulled away from their hug. "Now get ready because we are going to head out to the bay soon!" Andrew called out as he ran past Natalie and made his way down the stairs.
Once Andrew was out of her sight, voices coming from, what sounded like the kitchen, came up the stairs and filled the hallway. Natalie's brows furrowed at the sudden voices that came out of nowhere and the familiarity of them. She could make out one, being her mother, and the other one was...no it couldn't be. Natalie walked down the hallway and took the stairs one at a time, but stopped halfway, when someone walked out of the kitchen and opened the closet near the front door.
Natalie's eyes widened and her heart felt still and time seemed to have stopped. She recognized this man anywhere, and it has been so long since she had been able to actually look at him. By the look of it, it seems like he has just gotten back from a hunt, but that didn't bother Natalie. "...dad..."
Tom's head turned and he looked up at Natalie, a smile immediately appearing on his face. "Well, if it isn't my Nad."
Natalie's eyes closed, relishing at the sound of hearing his voice and hearing him say her name. Natalie opened her eyes, seeing that her dad had walked to the foot of the stairs and opened his arms. Natalie took only a few more steps before allowing herself to fall the rest of the way, into her father's waiting arms. Her face buried against his shoulder, fresh tears already were spilling down her cheeks, but she could care less. Her dad was here and it was real enough for her liking.
Tom tightened his hold around his daughter, planting a kiss against her temple. "It's good to see you, Nad." Tom said, holding Natalie as close as he could to him without squeezing her to much. Natalie sniffed as a few small chokes slipped up. Tom smiled faintly and rubbed her back, "What's wrong, Nad?"
Natalie let out a breath, trying to calm herself enough to allow herself to speak. "It's just...I missed you, dad." Her own words were like a punch to her stomach. She misses him so much, though, in the years since his death, she has buried her grief. All of her pain, sadness and anger had been buried, but, now, all of the emotions were mixing within each other, forbidding her from knowing exactly what she was feeling.
Tom rubbed her back once more, before setting her down on her feet. "I missed you too, Nad."
Natalie pulled away and looked up at her father, her eyes roaming over his face. He looked exactly as she remembered him. His brown hair had been tossled to one side, his face was full with stubble, which he always liked to have and his eyes were still the same deep brown, the ones she had inherited from him. Everything about him was, lack of a better word, perfect. The last image she had of her father was his battered and bloodied body. Seeing him now, was refreshing her mind with memories of him when he was full of life.
"I hope you all are ready! Your Aunt and Uncle are waiting for us down at the docks." Another voice soon rang out and her mother, Elizabeth, came walking out from the kitchen with a bag hanging from her shoulder. Elizabeth walked up to Natalie and kissed her forehead. "You slept in again today. Hope you are awake enough."
Natalie stood in place, still surprised at her mother's affectionate gesture. "Uh...yeah, I'm awake."
Elizabeth smiled and walked over to the closet, pulling out her shoes. "Well, then get your shoes and let's go."
"Good afternoon, Nad." Marina gently teased as she brushed past Natalie on the steps and handed her mother another bag that was full of towels.
Natalie watched as Andrew came from the living room and joined his mother and sister in getting everything together for the ride. The scene before her was so surreal. It was like ant typical day back at Dennis. Her father would come home from his hunts and they would all go out on the boat to spend as much time with him as they could, before he had to head out again. For a split second, Natalie completely forgot that all of this was not reality, and instead, relished in being in the company of her family again.
Andrew looked over at Natalie and motioned her over to them. "Come on, Nad. Get your things."
Natalie smiled sadly, but gave Andrew a small nod, she walked the rest of the way down and stood at the bottom of the steps. "Nad." Natalie's brows furrowed at the sound of her name being called, but it wasn't anyone from her family. "Nad, come on." Natalie turned around, thinking there was someone behind her, but she saw no one. She hummed in response and turned back around, only to find that she was alone. Her mom, dad, brother and sister. They were gone.
The sunlight that had been streaming through the windows were blocked out and the house slowly grew dark. Everything in the house from the furniture, to the antiques that were sitting on cabinets and even the front door, began to slowly disappear from Natalie's view. "Come on, Nad. You need to wake up. Wake up." Natalie quickly scanned the remaining bits of her home that was left around her, trying to keep a composite image of, this house, the one place she considers her sanctuary. She wanted to hold onto this 'dream' for as long as she could, because when she wakes up, she won't ever dream about this again.
Natalie blinked her eyes open, ridding away from the blurriness in her vision, and saw Bobby sitting in his chair next to her. Her head popped and she sat up fully, looking around her, finding that she was at Bobby's. Her eyes moved over to him and they hardened. "Cas, brought me here. Didn't he."
"Yeah. Though I have to admit, I was worried when I saw him carrying you. Thought you were injured or something." Bobby finally spoke.
"How long was I out?" Natalie asked.
"A couple of hours. Not that long though." Bobby answered.
Natalie scoffed lightly and looked down at her hands seeing that Sam and Dean's blood had dried completely. "Did Cas tell you?"
Bobby's eyes had become fixed on Natalie's hands and he nodded. "Said he was gonna do whatever he could." Natalie hummed to herself, not really paying attention to what Bobby was saying. She was to caught up with the fact that she saw Sam and Dean dead and the dream that she had. All of this, was now coming back to her. "Nad? Are you okay?"
Natalie looked up at Bobby, seeing his expression soften once she did. "I don't know." Natalie stated before shrugging her shoulders. "I just feel numb. From Sam and Dean...then this dream I had."
"What dream?" Bobby asked, hoping to steer the conversation away from the subject of Sam and Dean.
"I-I really don't know what it was, but..." Natalie stopped and shook her head. "No, it's nothing Bobby."
Bobby sighed, settling into his chair. "You want me to call someone. Mari or your aunt?"
"No. There's nothing they can do anyways, so what's the point?" Natalie stood up from the couch and went to walk out of the living room.
"Nad?" Natalie stopped and turned back around to Bobby. "Are you sure you don't want to talk?"
Natalie's eyes fell from her gaze on him, debating whether she should tell him about her dream, but decided against it. She looked up at him and sniffed. "No. I'm fine. I'm gonna go clean up."
Natalie turned on the sink faucet, letting the water run until steam began to rise. She looked down at her hands and placed them under the running faucet. The hot water stung her hand, but she didn't mind, as she became entranced at watching the blood mix in with the water and swirled down the drain. Once all of the blood was washed off, Natalie turned off the water and dried off her hands.
Walking down the stairs, Natalie could hear Bobby talking to someone and it only took a moment for her to register that it was Castiel. She sprinted the rest of the way down and rushed over to the living room, where Castiel was speaking with Bobby.
"Cas?" Natalie asked, feeling herself becoming hopeful that he might have some good news to tell her.
Castiel turned around to Natalie and gave her a nod. He glanced over at Bobby, who nodded at him, then Castiel walked over to Natalie. "They're waiting for you." Castiel said as he placed his two fingers to her forehead.
Natalie closed her eyes and then opened them again, finding herself back at the motel room, with Castiel standing behind her. Dean was buttoning up a new shirt, with his bloodied one in a bundle on the bed. He looked up and Natalie rushed over to him, throwing her arms around him and he did the same.
"It's good to see you up on your feet again." Natalie said, her arms tightening around him.
Dean smirked, "I'm just glad you weren't here when they were, Nad." Dean looked at Castiel and gave him a small nod, which he returned.
Natalie finally pulled away and looked up at him. "Where's Sam?"
Just then, Sam walked out from the bathroom, having washed away the blood from his face and arms and changed out of his bloodied shirt into a new one. Sam looked over at Natalie and his face visibly relaxed at seeing her. Natalie gave Dean a quick smile before walking over to Sam and held him in a warm embrace. Sam immediately wrapped his arms around her, holding her close to him.
"It's been a crazy day, huh?" Natalie began to tease lightly.
Sam huffed out a laugh and smiled. "You have no idea, Nad." Sam said, unconsciously tightening his hold around her.
"I need to know what Joshua told you both." Castiel suddenly spoke causing Sam and Natalie to loosen their holds on each other. "Did he tell you where God is?" Castiel asked.
Dean looked back at Sam, allowing Natalie to spot a defeated look in his eyes. "About that Cas...I'm afraid it's not good."
Natalie finished packing up her bag and walked into the bathroom, gathering up her toothbrush and comb and putting it back in her bag. "Maybe...Joshua is lying." Castiel said, causing everyone in the room to look over at him.
"I don't think he was Cas. I'm sorry." Sam finished, sighing in defeat.
Castiel moves towards the entryway of the room and looks up. "You son of a bitch. I believed in..." Castiel stopped and turns back to them, pulling out the amulet from his pocket. "I don't need this anymore." Castiel tosses it to Dean. "It's worthless."
Natalie looks at the amulet in Dean's hands when she heard the sound of wings and looked back up to see that Castiel was gone. "We'll find another way. We can stop all of this, Dean." Sam said. Natalie looked over at the two brothers.
"How?" Dean asked, looking up at Sam.
"I don't know, but we'll find." Sam assured him.
Dean picks up his bag from the bed and walks towards the door. He pauses and drops the amulet in the trash can before opening the door and leaves.
Natalie looked over at Sam, seeing him take in a deep breath. "...sam..." Natalie went to approach him but stopped when he looked over at her.
Sam cleared his throat and picked up his bag. "Come on, Nad. Let's go." Sam didn't say anything else, not even glancing back at her, as he walked out of the motel room.
Natalie sighed and bit down on her lip, her eyes then fixing on the trashcan near the door. She let out a breath and walked over to the trashcan, looking down, she saw the necklace sitting at the bottom. She bent down and picked up the necklace and quickly stashed it in her pocket. Natalie walked back over to the bed and picked up her bag and walked out of the room, closing the door behind her.
So this chapter I am not to fond of. First I wrote it in where Natalie was also shot and went to heaven, but I really didn't like how all of it turned out. So I decided to not have her get shot and do something different and that's what I did. But, the turnout wasn't good, at least, in my view. So I have been editing this chapter for the past two days trying to find the right fit and this was as close as I could get. I do hope you all enjoyed this chapter. Until next time! Xx
