A/N: And here we are everyone. On the very last chapter of this story. I just wanted to thank everyone who has stuck with me from the beginning and for even reading my story. I remember posting the very first story not thinking it would get a lot of readers and it did. Hope you are you excited about the next installment! Let's get onto the chapter!
Disclaimer: I do not own Supernatural
In between jobs, Sam and Dean would sometimes get a day—sometimes a week, if they were lucky. They'd pass the time lining their pockets. Sam used to insist on honest work, but now he hustles pool, like his brother. They could go anywhere and do anything. They drove 1,000 miles for an Ozzy show, two days for a Jayhawks game. And when it was clear, they'd park her in the middle of nowhere, sit on the hood, and watch the stars...for hours...without saying a word. It never occurred to them that, sure, maybe they never really had a roof and four walls...but they were never, in fact, homeless.
Natalie leaned against the Impala that was still parked in the alleyway, all the while, twirling her father's pocket knife in her hand. Bobby, Dean and Castiel had walked into town, wanting to try and figure out something they could do to help Sam, but Natalie didn't want to go. She stayed behind, wanting to be left alone in her thoughts. During that time, she had gotten into her bag and gone through the contents in her father's box that Bobby had given her. Going through the contents, she found her father's knife, recognizing it from seeing it constantly when she was growing up.
Her twirling stopped when she saw Dean round the corner and made his way over to the Impala. Natalie held the knife in her hand and looked at Dean expectantly. "Where's Cas and Bobby?"
"Still in town." Dean said offhandedly as he pulled out his phone and dialed out a number. It rings only a couple of times when a voice finally came through.
"Mistress Magda?"
Dean made a face, taken aback from Chuck's question. "Um, no, Chuck."
"Oh, uh, Dean. Uh, wow, I, uh, didn't know that you'd call."
"Who's Mistress Magda?" Dean asked. Natalie looked over at Dean giving him a look.
"Nothing. She's a, uh, just—just a close friend."
"Yeah, I'll bet—real close. Whatever happened to Becky?"
Natalie cringed slightly at the mention of her, thinking back to her first encounter with her at the convention.
"Didn't work out. I had to much respect for her."
Dean raised his brows skeptically. "Boy, you really got a whole virgin/hooker thing going on, don't you?"
"Okay, this can't be why you called."
"Sam said yes." Dean briefly looked over at Natalie. "Did you see where the title fight goes down?"
"The angels are keeping it top secret-very hush-hush. But, I saw it anyway. Perks of being a prophet. It's tomorrow, high noon—place called Stull Cemetery."
"Stull Ceme—' Dean paused, recognition washing over his face. "Wait. I know. That's...that's an old boneyard outside of Lawrence. Why Lawrence?"
"I don't know. It all has to end where it started, I guess."
"Alright, Chuck. You know of any way to short-circuit this thing?"
"Besides the rings? No. I'm sorry."
"Well, do you have any idea what's gonna happen next?" Dean tried again.
"I wish that I did. But I-I just...I honestly don't know yet."
"Alright, thanks Chuck." Dean said then pulled the phone away and ended the call.
Natalie stared at Dean silently for a few seconds. "So Lawrence. That's where all of this is going to do down?"
Dean nodded. "Chuck doesn't know what's going to happen...but I'm gonna make sure that I'm there when it does."
"I'm going with you." Natalie said, seeing Dean ready to argue with her on this matter. "Dean, don't. You are going for your brother. Even though Sam and I were, you know. I'm going because he was my friend first...my best friend and he still is. You're not gonna let him do this alone...and neither am I."
Dean looked at Natalie, hesitant to allow her to come with him. "Natalie, if you go, then..."
"No. Don't tell me to stay in the car or to try and distance myself from all of it." Natalie interrupted. "When you and I go there and we need to face him...we are going to face him together. That's how it's going to be Dean."
Dean toyed with Natalie's words, grateful about the thought that she wasn't going to give up on Sam, just like him. Yet, Dean didn't want her getting hurt, she has already had enough of that. But, he knew that if he told her no, she was going to find her way to Lawrence.
Dean finally sighed. "Okay. We're gonna do this together. Sam is gonna need us there."
Natalie nodded in relief, glad that Dean wasn't going to argue with her on the matter. Dean looked around the alleyway, taking in a few breaths. "We should get ready then."
Closing the trunk of the Impala, Natalie and Dean both walked over to either sides of the Impala when Castiel and Bobby came walking around the corner.
"You two goin' someplace?" Bobby asked, seeing the looks on both of their faces. "You're goin' to do something stupid. You both got that look about you."
"We're gonna go talk to Sam." Dean answered.
"You just don't give up do you?" Bobby agonized.
"It's still Sam!" Dean fought back.
"If you couldn't reach him here, you're certainly not gonna be able to on the battlefield." Castiel added.
"Well, if we've already lost, I guess I got nothing to lose, right?"
"I just want you to understand—the only thing that you're gonna see out there is Michael killing your brother."
Natalie dropped her gaze at Castiel's words and then looked up at Dean, seeing that his expression hadn't changed. "Well then we aren't going to let him die alone."
They went to get in the car when Bobby suddenly spoke up. "Nad?" Natalie stopped and looked over at Bobby. "You don't need to do this,."
"Yes I do Bobby. I'm not gonna let him face this alone. Dean and I...we'll be able to reach him." Natalie opened the door and slid into the car as Dean turned on the engine and drove out of the alleyway.
The Impala stopped at the entrance at Stull Cemetery. Dean and Natalie could both see Sam and Adam circling each other. Natalie unconsciously reached her hand towards the back of her pants, making sure her gun was secured, knowing that it wouldn't do her any good, but she'd rather have it with her. Her fingers then traced the handle of her father's knife that was resting in her belt line.
Dean looked over at her and pointed towards the floor of the passenger seat. "Hey. Grab that box, will you?"
Natalie looked Dean then down at the box that was lying near her feet. She bent down and picked it up, handing it over to him. Dean searched for only a second before pulling out a tape, allowing Natalie to set the box back down. "What are you doing?"
Dean pushed the tape in and turned up the volume. "I'm signaling our grand entrance."
'Rock of Ages' filled out of the speakers as Dean slowly drove into the cemetery, getting them closer to Sam and Adam, and Natalie could see the unsatisfied looks on both of their faces.
The car came to a smooth stop and Dean shut off the engine. They both opened the car doors and stepped out, both leaning their arm on the top of the Impala.
"Howdy, boys." Dean said. "Sorry. Are we interrupting something?"
Dean and Natalie shut the doors simultaneously and walked near the front of the Impala. "Hey." Dean said, directing towards Sam. "We need to talk."
"Dean. Even for you, this is a whole new mountain of stupid." Lucifer snarled, his eyes averting over to Natalie.
"I'm not talking to you. I'm talking to Sam." Dean corrected, stopping in front of him.
"You're no longer the vessel, Dean." Michael spoke up. "You got no right to be here."
Dean looked over at Michael, his eyes showing guilt. "Adam, if you're in there somewhere, I am so sorry."
"Adam isn't home right now." Michael said.
"Well, then you're next on my list, buttercup. But right now, I need five minutes with him."
"You little maggot. You are no longer a part of this story." Michael said, advancing towards Dean.
"Hey, ass-butt!" All of them turn their attention towards Castiel who was holding a molotov cocktail in his hand. Castiel tossed the bottle at Michael, causing him to scream as he went up in flames.
Natalie and Dean looked over at Castiel, their brows furrow slightly at his choice of insult. "Ass-butt?" They both asked.
Castiel shrugged at their questioning looks. "He'll be back—and upset—but you got your five minutes."
"Castiel." Lucifer turned towards him, his eyes hardening into a glare. "Did you just Molotov my brother with holy fire?"
Castiel face froze in a hesitant look. "Uh...no."
"No one dicks with Michael but me." Lucifer snapped his fingers causing Castiel's body to explode. Blood and chunks of flesh splattered on the ground and on Bobby, who had been standing behind him.
Natalie stumbled back, her hand bracing against the car, her eyes widening at the collective puddle of blood and human flesh that was the only thing left of Castiel. She then averted her gaze back over to Sam and Dean.
"Sammy, can you hear me?" Dean asked, beginning his attempt to get through to his brother.
"You know...I tried to be nice for Sammy's sake." Lucifer grabbed Dean by the folds on his coat. "But you..are such a pain...in my ass." Lucifer throws Dean onto the windshield causing it to shatter.
Natalie panicked and went to draw her gun, when she heard shots already being fired and she looked over at Bobby, seeing him shooting off rounds at Lucifer. Lucifer raises his fist and twists his hand, snapping Bobby's neck. Natalie's eyes widened, feeling a deep pit beginning to form in her stomach. "Bobby!"
Lucifer turned his attention at Natalie, his eyes glaring her down. He raised his hand sending her back, and when her body made contact with the ground, his hand closed into a fist.
"Nad!"
Natalie heard Dean call out and could feel a thick, bile, shooting up her throat and spill out of her mouth. She saw the substance stain the grass and saw that it was blood. A intense, burning sensation began to fill her stomach and she was soon overcome by a harsh coughing fit. Natalie pressed her hand against her stomach, her coughing gradually transitioning into gags. She looked over and saw Lucifer grab Dean by the legs and pull him off the Impala. Lucifer then proceeded to repeatedly punch Dean, until Dean fell back against the Impala, spitting out blood.
Natalie closed her eyes, feeling the pain beginning to deepen with intensity, but, she knew that she needed to do something to stop Lucifer. Natalie rolled onto her back, despite her body screaming in protest, and spotted her gun lying a few inches away from her. She leaned onto her left side and began to crawl her way over to it.
"Sammy? Are you in there?" Dean tried again, his face already had become incredibly swollen and blood stained.
"Oh, he's in here, alright." Lucifer punched Dean again. "And he's gonna feel the snap of your bones." Lucifer punched Dean once again and hauls him up to his feet. "We're gonna take our sweet time with you...and then I'll finish off your little friend."
Natalie's fingers reached the gun and she pulled it into her grasp. Rolling onto her back, she raised a shaky hand, aiming her gun at Lucifer and fired off a round. A part of her felt horrible for shooting what was essentially Sam, but, she knew that it was really Lucifer. Natalie saw him drop Dean, who sank back to the ground and turned towards her. I have your attention now. Natalie fired off another around that got him in the chest.
Lucifer heaved out a breath as he quickly walked over to Natalie, grabbing her by the jacket. Natalie dropped the gun, screaming from her body crying with pain from whatever he had done to her before. Lucifer pulled her towards the car and pushed her against it, pinning her down. Natalie grabbed his wrists, hoping to get him to loosen his hold on her, but she was to weak to do it.
Lucifer scanned over her face, his eyes filling with recognition. He had seen her a few times before, in the past few hours that he had occupied Sam's body, he had been able to scout out his memories and she was at the forefront of Sam's mind...every single minute. Lucifer smirked, his eyes trailing down at the knife that was peeking out from under her jacket. His hand reached down and pulled out the knife, tauntingly holding it in front of her face
"You know, Sam...he hasn't stopped thinking about you. Not even one second. You really are special, aren't you?" Lucifer traced the blade down her cheek and down to her neck. Natalie's grip on his one wrist tightened, trying to get out of his hold.
"I'm sorry that all of this had to happen. Really I am." Lucifer pulled the knife away and then embedded it into Natalie's stomach. Her eyes shot open at the sudden white pain that over took her. The grip she had on his shoulders tightened and her body leaned forward towards him, who in turn, twisted the blade, causing her to suck in a sharp breath. This pain was unreal. She didn't know what felt worse-getting shot or stabbed.
"Nad! No!" Dean called out. He pushed himself away from the car, trying to get back on his feet so that he could get to them. Lucifer twisted the knife in the other direction causing Natalie to scream. Hearing Dean to his left, he tilted his head and Dean fell back to the ground, feeling his body become overwhelmed with a random pain.
Lucifer pulled the knife out of Natalie, eliciting a loud painful gasp from the bleeding hunter. "It's all a shame, you know why?" Lucifer stabbed Natalie again in a spot close to her first wound. Natalie gasped again only to let out a painful scream that caused Lucifer to grin. "Because Sam here...he really cares about you. No scratch that." Lucifer twisted the knife again, allowing another scream to fall passed her lips.
The burning traveled through her body and all of the feeling in her legs soon gave way and she could feel herself beginning to slump down. Lucifer's hold on her tightened enabling for him to keep her upright. "He loves you. Plain and simple." Lucifer pulled the knife back out.
Natalie could feel her body begin to shake from her wounds and the blood loss. She reached up and grabbed his arm that had the knife. "S-sam...sam..." Natalie spoke, her voice hoarse from her screaming. "...don't let him do this...sam...don't let him win. T-take...take control...sam...please. Fight Sam...fight him b-back."
Natalie saw Lucifer about to stab her once again and she closed her eyes, hoping that it would all end quickly for her. But when nothing happened she slowly opened her eyes, seeing that Sam was frozen in place, his eyes staring into the car. What he was looking at, Natalie of course had no idea. But, she could see something beginning to change in his eyes. The cold, hardened look that Lucifer possessed was soon replaced by the softness that she was so used to. She knew that Sam was fighting his way back out.
Sam let out a breath, his brows creased as he looked down at the knife in his hand and then his eyes averted at the wounds on Natalie's abdomen. His face filled with shock as he dropped the knife. "Nad...no."
Sam's hold on Natalie loosened, allowing her to slump to the ground. Sam could feel nothing. His entire body had gone completely numb as he looked at the beaten, bloody forms of his brother and Natalie. Lucifer had done this. Used Sam to inflict this kind of pain on people that he loved. Sam's attention was brought back towards Natalie after hearing a garbled groan from her. He wanted nothing more than to kneel down in front of her, tell her that everything was going to be fine. But, he could feel Lucifer within in, trying to break his way out. Unconsciously, Sam reached down until his fingers just barely brushed over her cheek. Natalie could feel how gentle the touch was, it was Sam, not Lucifer. She looked back up at him, her lids halfway shut and chest was heaving with slow labored breaths. Neither of them were able to savor the moment for long. Sam suddenly stumbled back and casted a quick glance over at Dean. His mind began to fill with immense guilt as he looked Dean and Natalie. His brother's face was swollen, bloodied and bruised. Natalie was leaned up against the car, her hands weakly pressed against her stab wounds, the wounds that he—Lucifer—did to her. But, he knew that none of this would have happened if he had taken control over him sooner.
"Nad. Dean. It's okay. It's gonna be okay. I've got him." Sam reached into his pocket and pulled out the horsemen's rings. He turned to the side and tossed them to the ground. "Bytmon tabges babalon."
Natalie was startled as the ground began to shake and she looked over where Sam was, seeing the ground cave in and air was being sucked in. She could feel her eyes start to grow heavy and she fought to keep them open. Sam turned back to look at Dean and Natalie, taking a moment to convey everything he wanted to say in a single look where he knew they would understand him. Sam nodded to himself and took a deep breath.
"Sam! It's not gonna end this way! Step back!" Michael called out.
"You're gonna have to make me!" Sam said, inching his way closer to the opening.
"I have to fight my brother, Sam! Here and now! It's my destiny!" Michael fought back.
Sam casts Dean and Natalie one last look, before spreading his arms open and began to lean back. Michael lunged forward grabbing onto Sam's jacket. Sam grasped onto Michael's arms as they both fall together into the hole and the ground quickly closed back up.
Natalie felt a few sobs slip past her lips, but she didn't do anything to hold them back. Her body ached with pain and the heaviness in her eyes was so strong. But, now, she didn't mind the thought of closing them. The pain was still overwhelming and the intensity had not lighten. Natalie leaned her head against the Impala, feeling the continuous flow of her blood seep past her fingers, and she slowly closed her eyes, feeling an ethereal peace come over her.
Dean continued to stare at the spot where the hole was, spotting the rings glowing in the grass. The massive cavern that had been there not two seconds ago, was now gone. There was nothing but silence that surrounded. It was truly deafening. He turned his head towards Natalie, seeing she was still leaning up against the car. "Nad?" Dean asked, though he received no response.
Dean's brow creased with worry and he slowly pushed himself onto his knees and crawled over to her. Once he reached her, he wrapped his arm around her back and pulled her into his lap, cradling her in his arms. "Nad?" He asked again, his eyes roaming over her pale face.
"Nad? Hey. Come on." Dean shook her gently, hoping that it would wake her up, but once again he didn't get a response from her. Dean could feel himself overcome with denial, not wanting to believe she was really...
"No. You're fine. Come on, Nad. I'm gonna get you patched up, you're gonna be just fine."
In the back of his mind, Dean knew that he was saying all of this for himself. He just watched his brother jump into the pit, Castiel and Bobby were both dead...Natalie can't be. If anything, he thought that despite any horrible outcome, he would have at least Natalie by his side, but that wasn't the case. Dean glanced down at her shirt, which was drenched in blood and that's when it finally dawned on him and the denial was shot down.
Dean held her closer to his chest, shaking his head as he looked down at her. "Nad, please." Dean could feel tears forcing their way through his eyes, with one of them being partially swollen. "Nad. Please. Not you too." Dean kept his eyes fixed on her, hoping that any moment she would wake up, but she never did.
Dean rested his forehead against hers, hugging her close to his chest. He began to feel guilty, blaming himself for this happening to her. He kept thinking that he should have forced her to stay behind or to at least stay in the car. He wished that he could go back and make sure she was never here in the first place, but he couldn't. Now, everyone he cared about, were gone, and he was truly on his own.
Sitting there in silence, holding Natalie, Dean didn't know what to do. Lifting his head, he looked over at Bobby's lifeless body and sighed in despair. How was he going to tell Natalie's family what happened? Bobby was also the lifeline of multiple people, how was Dean supposed to deal with all of that? He didn't want to move from his spot, he didn't want to leave this grim boneyard. Staying here and simmering in this silence, sounded like a great idea to Dean.
A hand resting on his shoulder caught Dean's attention and he looked up seeing Castiel standing next to him. "Cas, you're alive?"
"I'm better than that." Castiel reaches down and touches Dean's forehead healing his wounds. Castiel walks in front of Dean and kneels down next to Natalie. He placed his hand on her stomach, healing her wounds.
Natalie's eyes shot open and she sucked in a deep breath and struggled in Dean's arm.
"Hey. It's okay. You're alright." Dean assured her, helping her sit fully up. Dean then looked up at Castiel. "Cas, are you god?"
"That's a nice complement. But, no. Although, I do believe he brought me back. New and improved." Castiel said, making his way over to Bobby.
Natalie looked around her, seeing Castiel was alive and he was healing Bobby from his wounds. At first when she woke up, she thought that all that had just happened was nothing more than a dream. For a brief moment, she thought Sam was still here and he was not in the pit. But, as er eyes glanced over and saw the horseman's rings she felt her stomach drop. It wasn't a dream. Sam has in fact jumped and he was gone.
Dean's hold around her tightened, prompting her to look back over at him and saw his eyes beginning to brim with tears. She could see all of his pain and grief spill from them. He had just lost his brother...his best friend...his only family. There was only one thing she could think of to do. Natalie wrapped her arms around Dean and held him as close to her as she could. His arms immediately wrapped around her and he buried his face against her shoulder. If she could do anything for him, it was to just be here with him.
Endings are hard. Any chapped-ass monkey with a keyboard can poop out a beginning, but endings are impossible. You try to tie up every loose end, but you never can. The fans are always gonna bitch. There's always going to be holes. And since it's the ending, it's all supposed to add up to something. I'm telling you, they're a raging pain in the ass.
Dean drove down the highway with Castiel in the front seat and Natalie, who was currently sleeping. "So, what are you gonna do now?" Dean finally asked.
"Return to Heaven, I suppose."
"Heaven?"
"With Michael in the Cage, I'm sure it's total anarchy up there." Castiel responded.
"So, what, you're the new Sheriff in town?"
Castiel smiled at the thought. "I like that. Yeah. I suppose I am."
"Wow. God gives you a brand new, shiny set of wings, and suddenly you're his bitch again."
"I don't know what God wants. I don't know if he'll even return. It just...seems like the right thing to do."
"Well, if you do see him, you tell him I'm coming for him next."
"You're angry."
"That's an understatement."
"He helped. Maybe even more than we realized." Castiel said, trying to give a good defense.
"That's easy for you to say. He brought you back. But what about Sam? What about me or Nad, huh? Where's my grand prize? All I got is my brother in a hole!"
"You got what you asked for, Dean. No paradise. No hell. Just more of the same. I mean it, Dean. What would you rather have? Peace or Freedom?"
Dean looks over, seeing that Castiel was now gone and he scoffed. "Well, you really suck at goodbyes, you know that?" Dean focused his attention back on the road.
This is the last Dean and Natalie will see Bobby for a very long time. And, for the record, at this point next week, Bobby will be hunting rugaru outside of Dayton. But not Natalie or Dean. Dean didn't want Cas to save him. Every part of him, every fiber he's got, wants to die, or find a way to bring Sam back. But he isn't gonna do either...neither was Natalie. Because he and Natalie made a promise.
Natalie threw her last bag into the back of the car and turned around to Bobby. He wrapped his arms around her and she did the same. "Nad. If you need anything...call me." Bobby said. "Please don't think you have to deal with this alone, Nad, because you don't have to."
Natalie nodded her head, but she knew that as of right now, she just wanted to get to her Aunt's house and crawl in her bed.
Bobby pulled away and then turned to Dean, hugging him. "You take care of yourself, Dean."
Dean broke the hug and gave Bobby a small nod. "I will."
Natalie walked over to the passenger door and got into the car. She looked over as Dean got into the drivers seat and saw Bobby giving them a small wave. Natalie gave Bobby a small smile as Dean started the engine and drove out of the junkyard.
Natalie walked up towards the porch of her Aunt's house, but stopped halfway and set down her bags, then turned back to look at Dean. They both stood in silence, knowing that this was most likely the last time they would see each other for a while.
"There really isn't much for me to say." Natalie finally said. "But, I do need to thank you Dean."
Dean shook his head. "No, Nad you don't."
"No, I do. I mean when I first met you and...Sam...I wasn't really in the best place. And then when my brother and mom died...you both helped me through it. You both understood what I was going through. You allowed me to go on hunts with you, when you could have easily said no. So, just...thank you, for everything." Natalie finished, seeing Dean give her a small nod.
"Well, Nad, I will say it's been a great time having you ride along with us. Really. You've become like family to me. And I have to say, you are a real trooper with everything you put up with." Dean stopped and let out a small laugh. "I guess what I'm saying is...thank you. You know for being such a great friend. I mean you really helped Sam and I a lot. So, thank you."
Natalie nodded when her eyes lit up. "Oh and one more thing." Natalie bent down and unzipped her bag and opened her father's box. She pulled out the amulet and turned back to Dean, taking his hand and putting it in his palm.
Dean looked up at her, surprised. "When did you..."
"Before we left the hotel, I picked it up. I know that it means a lot to you...I couldn't just leave it there. My guess is that Sam was the one who gave it to you."
Dean stared down at the necklace in his hand and nodded. "It was a Christmas present for our dad originally. But, when he didn't show...Sam gave it to me."
Natalie smiled as she looked at the amulet. "Well, then, I'm glad that I saved it. I wanted to wait for the right moment to give it back and I guess...now was the time."
"Thank you, Nad." Dean said, putting the necklace into his jacket pocket.
"Dean, are you...are you gonna be...you know." Natalie didn't want to come right out and asked if he will be fine, because she knew that he wasn't fine and neither was she. But, she felt that she needed to say something on those grounds.
Dean looked at Natalie, already seeing her eyes begin to brim with tears. He pulled her towards him, his arms holding her in a tight hug. "I'll be fine, Nad." Dean said, not sure if she was convinced by it.
Natalie took in a breath, her arms tightening around him. "Is that Winchester talk for saying you won't be fine? Because I'll be fine too." Natalie closed her eyes, feeling a few tears stream down her cheek.
Dean sighed keeping his tight hold on her, hoping it would help her stop worrying about him because he was worried about her. He wasn't going to be here with her, therefore, he couldn't help her through it. He and Natalie were going their separate ways to live their own lives, but, it pained him that they couldn't help each other.
"It's gonna be okay, Nad." Dean said, finally pulling away and kissed her forehead. "You take care of yourself."
Natalie nodded. "You too."
Dean turned around and walked back over to the Impala, quickly getting into the car. Turning on the engine, he looked at the front seat and then at the backseat through the rearview mirror. Seeing them both empty made his stomach drop. He looked at Natalie through the window, giving her one last forced smile and then turned the car around, driving down the road that led out of the property.
Natalie stood in place for a few more minutes, watching as the Impala slowly disappeared from her sight, leaving her in an eerie silence. Natalie picked up her bags and walked up the porch when the front door opened and Marina walked out. Natalie gave her sister a small smile, seeing the relieved look on her face.
"Nad. Is it?"
Natalie sighed and nodded. "It's over, Mari. It's all over."
Marina smiled, glad that this whole apocalypse mess was over with, but her relieved expression soon turned to concern once she saw the grim look on her sister's face. "Nad...what happened?"
Natalie could feel her eyes sting at the new round of tears that were beginning to form. She simply dropped her bags and wrapped her arms around her sister's neck, sobbing into her shoulder.
"Nad. It's okay." Marina spoke, rubbing Natalie's back in an attempt to comfort her. "What happened?" Marina asked again only to have Natalie shake her head in response.
So, what's it all add up to? It's hard to say. But me, I'd say this was a test...for Sam and Dean. And I think they did alright. Up against good, evil, angels, devils, destiny and God himself, they made their own choices. They chose family. And well...isn't that kinda the whole point? No doubt endings are hard. But then again...nothing ever really ends, does it?
Natalie walked into her room after she had just gotten done eating dinner with her sister and she told her everything. From what happened with Sam and Lucifer and then confessing about what went on between her and Sam. All of it. There was no use to keeping any of it a secret anymore. The Apocalypse was over. Dean is where he needs to be. Natalie is back home...and Sam is gone.
She walked over to her bed and sat down on the edge, when Lucifer's words began to fill her mind. He loves you. Plain and Simple. Natalie buried her face in her hands, blinking back the tears that were beginning to form. She wasn't going to cry anymore, for today at least, because she knows that there will be plenty of that to come.
Natalie wiped at her eyes and stood from her bed, walking over to her dresser, she pulled out her night clothes, determined to try and get some sleep. She quickly changed into her night clothes and switched off the lights. As she walked over to her side of the bed, she passed the window, but stopped she saw something out of the corner of her eye.
Natalie slowly turned her head to the side and looked out the window, seeing someone standing out on the front lawn. At first she thought it was something that was going to break in, but as she looked closer, she could almost swear that it was—Sam. Natalie went to walk closer to the window when her phone began to vibrate on the nightstand causing her gaze to move from the window. She picked up her phone seeing the message that her Aunt had sent her and quickly looked back out the window, seeing that the figure was gone.
Natalie hummed to herself, thinking that she was just going crazy. I'm just seeing things. Natalie set her phone back down on the nightstand and settled herself under the bed covers. As she rested her head against the pillow, Natalie began to run through the events that have occurred over the past few years. Her dad, mom, and brother. Meeting Sam and Dean. Becoming a hunter. Hell, the damn Apocalypse. She has seen so much and despite of all the pain and loss, Natalie knew that other people probably have had it worst. Losing her dad, mom, Andrew and now Sam, she knew that she had to make the best of everything. But, Natalie knew that now it was different. She lost the one person who she connected with on a deeper personal level. Someone who understood her...someone she loved. And she knew that dealing with Sam being gone, was not going to be a walk in the park.
So that is the end of Dreamt of Paradise. Again thank you all so much for reading! Now that I think about it, the question from last chapter, I should have just asked it here, but now that you all have seen how it ends maybe it can help stir your ideas. Don't forget if you have an idea as to how Sam and Natalie could reunite, go ahead and post it in a review! I will post a authors note here when I have the next story up! See you in the next story! Xx
