Ever since Damon found Elena in Mystic Falls- the second time, anyway- he had been suffering with severe headaches. They usually only lasted for a moment, but they were hell, and he was sick of them. He was remembering more, lately, too. He didn't know why, but he could remember things now that he hadn't remembered before.
He had just arrived back at the Salvatore Boarding House after taking Elena back to Katherine's house, and his head was aching already. He was starting to remember Elena more. It was as if the more time he spent with Elena, the more he remembered her. And after a full day with her, he could clearly see her in his minds eyes. He fell into the nearest chair as his vision blacked out.
One second, he was seeing the empty living room, the next, he was sitting in his bedroom seeing the door open to reveal Elena Gilbert. She was dressed in a gown. She looked completely out of it. She sat beside him.
Damon blinked and was back in the present day, but then he blinked again, and he was back in 1864.
He watched Elena as she turned into a monster. He recognised the face of a vampire, and she looked so much like Katherine that he forgot it was Elena for a second. But she looked so tired, and sad, but mainly, she looked hungry. Damon heard himself breathe out a pained moan.
He saw the Salvatore Boarding House, and he saw Stefan hurry to him, saying his name over and over again. Stefan looked worried, but then he was back in 1864, and he couldn't hear Stefan anymore.
His father was there now, and he was shooting bullets from a rifle, shouting at Elena. Elena looked terrified; her fangs and veins were gone, and she was frozen, looking like a deer in the headlights. Damon's heart went out to her, and he stood up, pulling Elena behind him in an attempt to protect her.
Damon groaned. Stefan was shaking his shoulders, because his older brother had been going in and out of consciousness in a worrying way for the last ten minutes.
Damon saw himself in a cabin then, watching Elena scream at Katherine.
"You made me say those things!" Elena shrieked, "You are a Vampire! You did this to me!" Elena cried out. Damon felt nervous as Elena was breaking down in front of him.
Katherine was there with cold, merciless eyes, "Oh, boo, hoo," Katherine said meanly. She was acting like the bitch Damon remembered her to be; the girl who only cared about herself. She had taught him so well. "No one cares, Gilbert." Katherine spat at her.
Damon wanted to protest- I care, I care, Elena- but he couldnt. All he could do was stare at Katherine. And Katherine wasn't even doing anything to him to make him freeze! He was scared, and in love, and totally desperate. And those things had turned him into her pet.
Damon was shaking his head now, and Stefan bit his lip, not knowing how to help his brother.
He was watching Elena leave the cabin. And he was worried. And he didn't know what would await Elena. What was Katherine going to do to her?
Damon's eyes opened suddenly, and he gasped for breath as he sat upright in the leather armchair. "Oh, God," Damon muttered. He drove his fingers through his dark hair as his mind was driven by chaos and realisation. He knew, now, what Katherine had done to Elena. Katherine had locked her away in a tomb and starved her until she didn't work anymore; until Elena was nothing more than a broken plaything. Damon could so clearly see Elena as she had been earlier that day. He could hear Elena, so happy, saying that she liked Katherine now, that there was nothing Katherine could have done that could change her feelings for Katherine. Elena didn't remember, Damon realised. He had to tell her. He had to warn her.
Because Katherine hadn't brought Elena back from the tomb to rescue her, or to right the wrongs of her past. Katherine wasn't done with Elena yet. Katherine was not finished with any of them.
Stefan was staring at his brother in a concerned way.
"Katherine," Damon said, and Stefan immediately understood. The way Damon said her name now, it wasn't the way he used to say it- like a lovesick fool, blind with adoration.
Klaus stood in the centre of Mystic Falls, and he took his time to appraise the little details of the quaint town. It had good character. Across the street, he saw a pretty blond human going into a bar-restaurant with a sign reading, Mystic Grill.
If his sources had been correct, this was where he would find Katherine Pierce. Oh, revenge was so overdue.
