The Unbreakable
Chapter Eight

Emily awoke to the sounds of her cellphone going off. She yawned and glanced at Micah, who was still peacefully asleep under his covers.
She got out of the bed and went over to the dresser, where her phone was on the charger.
It was Hanna, so she answered it.

"Em?"
"Hi, Hanna. What is it?"
"I needed to ask you a question."
"What is it?"
"Have you picked up that parcel from the store yet?"
"Oh, shoot. No. Would you be able to pick it up? I just realized I have to take Penelope to her appointment today."
"I guess. I asked you to pick the parcel up, but I can pick it up."
"I'm sorry. I'll call you later, alright?"
"Sure. Bye."

She glanced at Micah. He was still asleep. She decided not to wake him so instead left the bedroom and went downstairs to have some breakfast.
It was nine in the morning. Penelope woke up at seven but fell asleep after her feeding, and was expected to sleep until ten, at the latest.

Hanna hung up her phone and glanced at the clock. It was nine in the morning. Caleb had left for work about an hour ago and wasn't expected back until three, at the earliest. Bryn was in her bedroom watching TV, and Luca was in his nursery sleeping.
He was three weeks old, and was doing great. He was a good baby. Thank God, Hanna thought to herself.
He slept through the night. Usually fell asleep at eight, and woke up at six. Around the time Caleb would be awake and getting ready for work. So Hanna usually slept in a lot.
Hanna got up and walked over to her closet door. She opened it and walked inside to decide what to wear and to get dressed.
It took her about five minutes but she finally had decided on an outfit.
It was spring so it was finally nice out.
Hanna decided to wear a pair of maroon colored skinny jeans and a white and dark blue striped shirt. She completed her look with a black blazer and a pair of black pointy toed flats.
Hanna then went into the bathroom and put her hair in curlers. She waited ten minutes for her curlers to curl her hair. She used that time to go on her computer and catch up on all the celebrity gossip going on.
Her hair was finally finished and Hanna went into Luca's nursery to get him ready so they could leave. She knew Bryn was already dressed so she didn't have to worry about her.

Hanna opened the door to Luca's bedroom and walked over to the crib. Luca was awake but currently distracted by his mobile that was hanging above him.
Hanna smiled at the sight of Luca's distraction and went over to his dresser. She dug around in the drawers for an outfit.
She quickly decided to put on a white and dark blue pattered onesie with a pair of small black overalls that had the same pattern on the bottom of the legs. She grabbed them and placed them on Luca's changing table and went over to the closet and opened it.
She went through her son's baby shoes and decided on a pair of dark blue Converse-style slippers.
Hanna placed them next to his outfit and finally went to pick him up in his crib.
"Morning, Luca." Hanna smiled as she picked her son up.
She kissed him on the head and placed him on his changing table.
She reached below her and pulled out a diaper and began to change him. Once she changed his diaper, she began to put his clothes on.
A few minutes later, Luca was fully changed and ready.
Hanna smiled at him while she slipped on a dark blue hat on his head. He was still a newborn and needed his head covered, no matter if it was warm out or not.

Hanna placed Luca in his car seat and placed him on the floor. She went over to the closet and pulled out an oversized Nest diaper bag and began to pack it up with the essentials she would need for the day.
Once she was finished, Hanna threw the stylish black bag over her shoulder and picked up his car seat.
She walked across the second floor hallway and into Bryn's bedroom.
She found the six year old sitting on the floor watching TV on her flat screen.

"Bryn?" Hanna said softly, putting Luca's car seat down.
Bryn looked up at her mother. "Yeah, Ma?"
"Are you ready?" Hanna asked.
"For what?" Bryn asked, standing up.
"We're going out for the day. We gotta check up on the store and then go somewhere special. A Mommy, Bryn and Luca day." Hanna told her.
"Like where?" Bryn asked.
"I'm not sure," Hanna admitted. She never really thought of a place to take her daughter and son. The park? Maybe. "Maybe the park, or shopping? You like shopping."
"Shopping?" Bryn's eyes lit up.
"I guess. Now, let's go, sweetie," Hanna smiled.
Bryn got up and went over to her closet. She opened the closet doors and turned back to her mom. "Mommy, will I need a jacket?" She asked.
"Hmm...maybe a sweater," Hanna said, walking over to Bryn.
"This one?" Bryn asked, pulling out a blue sweater from her closet.
Hanna shook her head and began to rummage through her daughter's numerous sweaters and coats. She finally stopped and looked at Bryn's outfit.
She was wearing a pair of black leggings, and a light pink and black polka dotted shirt with long sleeves. Along with her light pink flats. Her dirty blonde hair was styled into a sleek bun with a black headband with a flower.
"Hmm...I think this trench coat would look great with your outfit," Hanna said, pulling out Bryn's light pink trench coat of the closet.
"Thanks, Mommy," Bryn said as Hanna helped her put her coat on.
Hanna closed the closet doors and walked back over to Luca. She picked his car seat up and opened the bedroom door.
"Let's go now, Bryn," Hanna said.

Aria leaned over and placed the white stick on the bathroom counter, next to the two other tests she had taken.
Aria missed her period. And she had felt nausea in the morning for the past two days. She was beginning to consider the fact that she may be pregnant. She would be okay if she was but she wanted to wait a little while longer to try for another. She knew Ezra would be thrilled if she was.
Aria then stood up, pulling up her pajama pants and then leaving the bathroom.
She wouldn't get results for another couple of minutes and decided to waste that little time by changing her outfit. She was still wearing her pajamas.
Ezra was currently at Sophie's school, supervising the art club.
It made Aria relieved that Ezra wasn't in the house while she was taking the test.

A couple minutes passed and Aria was fully dressed in the outfit that she chose for the day.
She had a pair of pair of dark washed jeans, and a grey long sleeved shirt on along with a pair of grey suede heels.
She walked back into the bathroom and nervously stared at the pregnancy tests. Laying face down on her counter top.
She was nervous to read them. She knew she had nothing to be nervous about but was nervous anyways.
She finally reached over and flipped them all over.
Aria gasped when she seen that all three of the pregnancy tests were positive. She was pregnant.

Aria left the bathroom and went into her bedroom. She sat on the bed and wondered what to do.
She should call her doctor to schedule an appointment but she needed to tell somebody. She wanted to tell Ezra right away. But she wanted to tell him when he got home.
She made the decision to call Spencer.
Aria walked over to her dresser and picked up her cell phone. She dialed Spencer's number and it began to ring.

"Call me Monday, Mandy. Thank you," Spencer said as she closed the front door of her home.
She had just finished talking to one of her employees. Mandy came over to Spencer's home to get her approval on a wall paper for a model home they were designing.
Spencer walked across the hallway and into the kitchen. She opened the cabinet and got herself a coffee mug. She then poured herself some coffee from the maker and sat down at the kitchen table. She opened her computer and began to answer a few emails.
Spencer heard her phone ring and quickly walked over to the counter to answer it.
She picked up the house phone and pressed the answer key.

"Hello?" Spencer answered.
"Hey, Spencer," Aria greeted.
"Hey, Aria. What's up?"
"I need to tell you something."
"What? What's wrong?" Spencer asked, now worried.
"Oh, no. It's not bad news,"
"Then what is it, Aria?"
"I'm pregnant,"
"What? That's great!"
"I just found out a couple of minutes ago. All three tests came out positive."
"Did you tell Ezra?"
"No, but listen, I'll see you later. We're still all having dinner at your place tonight, right?"
"Yeah. Savannah is so excited to meet you guys."
"I can't wait to meet her too. But listen, I gotta go now. Bye."

Emily placed Penelope in her crib. She was now having her morning nap and Emily was hoping to get a little bit of rest herself. Spencer had invited everyone over to her house for a dinner party so they could meet her surrogate. Savannah sounded like a nice person, and Emily was excited to meet Spencer's surrogate.
Micah was working, as usual. Although, Emily was a little used to that now. He was beginning to work more, probably because of the tension between them.
Emily knew something was wrong in her marriage, but wasn't sure how to fix it, or what the problem was.
Emily shut the light off and walked down the hall and into her bedroom. She plopped herself on the bed and began to rest.
A couple of minutes later, Emily's phone rung.
Emily groaned and sat up. She reached over and grabbed her phone that was sitting on the bedside table.

"Hello?" Emily answered.
"Hey, Em," Spencer replied.
"Hi, Spence. What's up?"
"I was wondering if you'd be willing to come help me over here. I need some help. Hanna's busy with the kids, Aria's, um, busy."
"I was just going to have a small nap,"
"Oh. Did I bother you? I'm sorry."
"No. I'd love to come help. I'm on my way, Spencer,"
"Thanks so much! Really, thank you."
"What are friends for?"
"See you when you get here. Bye."

Ten minutes later, Emily was dressed in a pair of black jeans and a t-shirt. She decided to come back home later to change into a more, formal attire. She knew Spencer was stressing a lot about this dinner but Emily was positive it would go great.
Emily dug around in her closet and put on a sweater. She then looked through her shoes before deciding on a pair of black suede ankle boots with a heel. She put her dark brown hair into a ponytail and made her way downstairs to Penelope's nursery to put her in her car seat.
Emily opened the door and went over to the crib. She picked Penelope up and brought her over to her change table.
She quickly got Penelope dressed, and in her car seat.
Emily then began the drive to Spencer's home in the area of Fulton. Being as little as twenty minutes away from her own home in Armatage.

"That'll be a hundred dollars and thirty cents, Ma'am," The cashier at Macy's told Hanna.
"Here you go," Hanna smiled and handed the woman her credit card.
The cashier took Hanna's credit card and quickly swiped it. She handed it back. "Have a great day,"
Hanna picked up the paper Macy's bags and hung them on Luca's Orbit G2 stroller. "You too,"
She was currently just finishing up her shopping day with Bryn and Luca. Bryn had bought quite a few pairs of clothes from GAP Kids, Macy's and a pair of shoes from Payless.
Hanna put her purse back on her shoulder and began to push the baby stroller. She glanced around her. "Bryn?"
She couldn't find Bryn. Hanna remembered Bryn asking her to go to the water fountain right outside Macy's so she began to make her way there. Hoping her daughter would be safely by the fountain.

Bryn Rivers shuffled her way through the crowd of people walking through the mall. She wanted to see the water fountain, despite what her mommy told her. Bryn really wanted to throw a couple of her coins in there and make a wish.
She reached the fountain and was astonished when water flew up into the air.
Bryn stood there with her mouth open in awe. "Oh my gosh," She said.
She began to toss her coins in the water and make wishes. When she was finished, she decided it was time to return back to her mommy in the store.
She turned around and began to walk through the crowd.
She bumped into a woman. "Oops," She said softly.
A brunette woman looked down at Bryn. "It's okay. Be careful around the fountain, little girl," She said.
"Mommy said I can't talk to strangers," Bryn told her.
The woman smiled. "That's right, little girl. What's your name?"
"Bryn," She said proudly.
"Hi, I'm Paige," Paige McCullers smiled. She glanced around Bryn. "So, where's your mommy?"

"Bryn!" Hanna called out as she walked over to the water fountain. "Bryn! Where are you?"
Hanna was still pushing Luca's stroller through the crowd. "Honey?" She called out.
"Over here, Momma!" Bryn called out.
Hanna sighed relief and pushed the stroller faster towards Bryn.
When she approached her, she immediately threw her arms around her daughter. "You had me worried sick, sweetie. Don't ever leave Mommy like that again, Understood?" Hanna asked as she kissed her daughter's head.
"Okay, Mommy," Bryn smiled.
"Hanna? Hanna Marin?" Paige asked.
Hanna looked up. "Paige?"
"So, this little cutie is yours? Wow," Paige asked, surprised.
Hanna nodded. "Yep, she is." She smiled.
Paige pulled Hanna into a friendly hug. "It's so nice to see you again. I had no idea you lived in Minneapolis."
Hanna pulled away. "I thought you lived in some foreign country, Paige. Why didn't you tell anyone you were coming to Minnesota?" Hanna asked.
"Canada isn't foreign," Paige laughed. "Same old, Hanna Marin. Well, I was just coming here to do some shopping in the famous Mall Of America. Then I'm off to Canada next week."
Hanna nodded. "Anyways, would you like to come visit? Be like old times?" Hanna stuttered. "Oh, shoot, I have to go to Spencer's for some dinner with her surrogate."
"Spencer lives here too?" Paige asked.
"Yeah," Hanna nodded. "Same with Aria, and Em."
Paige nodded. "Well, this has been sufficiently awkward. I should get going."
"No," Hanna shook her head. "How about I ask Spencer if you can come for dinner?"
"No," Paige shook her head. "That would be very awkward."
"Come on!" Hanna begged. "We haven't seen you in such a long time. You have so much to catch up on,"
"Fine," Paige finally gave in.
Hanna smiled. "Great!"
Paige glanced at the stroller in front of Hanna. "That yours too?" She asked.
"Yep," Hanna smiled proudly. "That's Luca."
Paige's eyes opened wide. "Wow, never expected that from you."
"Shut up," Hanna giggled. "Now, come on. We'll call Spencer on the way."
"Is Paige coming with us, Mommy?" Bryn asked.
"Yes, I am," Paige smiled.
"She is," Hanna kissed her daughter on the head again. "Now come on, sweetie."

Spencer placed the chicken in the oven and looked at Emily. She was currently breastfeeding her daughter at the kitchen table.
"Emily?" Spencer asked.
"What?" Emily asked, looking up.
"How are you and Micah?" Spencer asked, wiping her hands on a towel and coming over to the table.
Emily sighed. "We've definitely been better before. We don't fight that much, so I guess you can say we're good."
Spencer looked at Emily as she sat down. "What's going on?" She asked.
"I just don't feel that spark anymore. Actually," Emily told her.
Just then, Spencer's phone rung.
"Oops, sorry," Spencer picked up her cell phone and read the caller ID. "It's Han,"
She got up and went into the living room to talk to her.

"Hey, Han," Spencer answered.
"Hi. Are you still having that little party at your house?"
"Dinner," Spencer corrected. "Yes, I am. Why?"
"I was wondering if I could bring someone with me. Along with Caleb and the kids,"
"Someone like who?"
"Paige. Paige McCullers."
"Wait, what? I didn't know she was in town."
"Neither did I. I ran into her at the mall. So, can I? We can catch up with her and see how she's doing?"
"Yeah. Of course. Of course, Han. Tell her I said hi. I'll see you both later."
"Thanks. Bye,"

Spencer hung up and rubbed her head. She walked back into the kitchen and placed her phone on the table before going over to the table and sitting down next to Emily.
"So, what'd she say?" Emily asked.
"She asked if she could bring a friend," Spencer said.
"Who?" Emily asked.
"Paige." Spencer answered.

I didn't even realize how long this chapter was going to be. I like keeping mine under three thousand words because I feel like people don't like to read really long chapters.
Next chapter will be Spencer's dinner, and the girls catching up with Paige and meeting the surrogate.

I wonder how Em will take it!
I'm so sorry I haven't updated in nearly a month! I've just been sick a bit, and then didn't really have any ideas for this story so I let it sit for a bit until I got some ideas.

Please review and let me know what you thought.
I'll update this weekend, hopefully or by Tuesday, at the latest.
