The Unbreakable
Chapter Thirteen

Toby Cavanaugh followed the balding doctor into his wife's hospital room. After an extremely quick and graphic birth of their baby, Spencer fainted. After seeing baby Cavanaugh come out of Samantha, Spencer fell to the floor. The doctors decided to take a few tests just to be safe but Spencer was expected to be fine. She wouldn't be the first person to faint while watching an all natural vaginal delivery. Usually the fathers faint, but in this case, it was Spencer.

"So, how is she going to be?" Toby asked.
"Mrs. Cavanaugh is going to be just fine," The doctor assured him. "We ran a couple of tests and are awaiting the results. We should get them back in the next ten to fifteen minutes. In the meantime, your daughter is finished being checked so I think you should get in a little bit of daddy daughter time."
"How about Samantha?" Toby wondered how their surrogate was holding up after giving birth. "How is she holding up?"
"Samantha is great," He smiled. "That woman was great in the delivery room. You know that. You had a very healthy surrogate."
"I wanted to know how she's doing.." Toby looked at him. "Like, you know, this whole thing-"
"I haven't talked to Samantha one on one but her mother told us Samantha is overjoyed at the fact that she gave you two a baby. It's a very emotional time."
"Thanks, Dr. Rios," Toby shook the doctor's hand. "For everything."
"It's my job, Toby," Dr. Rios grinned. "I'll be in the room as soon as I get the test results back."
Toby watched as the Hispanic doctor made his way down the long hallway to check up on his other patients. Once Dr. Rios was out of sight, Toby opened the door to the room where they examined the newborns.

"Hey, Toby," a nurse swaddled the infant and placed her in the glass bassinet. "Your little one is perfectly healthy. I'm sure Dr. Rios already told you."
"I'm here to take my little angel," he grinned at the sight of his first child in the bed. "to see mommy."
"Well, here you go," she wheeled the bassinet over to Toby. "I'll be in the room in about an hour to help Spencer bathe her."
"Sounds good." Toby glanced at the bassinet before turning around to leave with his daughter.
"And Toby?" the brunette nurse called after him. Once he turned around, she gave a warm smile. "Congratulations."

Hanna Marin-Rivers watched as her daughter struggled to button up her maroon cardigan that Caleb picked out for her to wear on this chilly day.
"Baby, do you need help?" Hanna asked softly.
"No, Mommy," Bryn stopped struggling, deciding to leave her cardigan undone. "I'll just leave it like this."
"I'll help you out as soon as I'm finished feeding your brother," The blonde glanced down at the three-month old baby latched onto her breast. "He's so cute."
"It's okay. I'm leaving it like this." Bryn declined. "When are we going to Auntie's house, Mommy?"
"Which Auntie, hun?" Hanna asked, clearly forgetting the plans they made for the day.
"Emmy!" Bryn smiled. "When are we going?"
"We'll go in a bit. We have to wait for Daddy to get home with your Tylenol," Hanna told her daughter. "Did you forget you were sick?"
"I wanna go now though!" the little girl whined.
"How about you go in the kitchen and I'll let you have some ice cream?" Hanna asked her daughter. "We still have a little bit of cookie dough ice cream left."
Without a response, the young girl ran down the large hallway towards the kitchen. Hanna giggled to herself before looking down to check on Luca.
He was getting so big. He was a spitting image of his father, difference being he inherited his mother's blonde hair and blue eyes.

"He looks like his beautiful mother," Caleb appeared in the family room, pharmacy bag in hand.
"Oh, you're back," Hanna jumped, but settled down after realizing it was Caleb. "You scared me. Luca looks exactly like his dad. I don't know what you're on-"
Caleb laughed. "Maybe a bit. But he has your eyes, and hair."
"None of that matters." Hanna huffed before breaking into a giggle as Caleb blew a raspberry into her neck. "Ca-aleb, stop!"
Caleb kissed his wife on the lips. "Is Bryn ready to head out yet?"
"I'm right here." Bryn Rivers entered the family room.

She was wearing a pair of plain black leggings, and a pair of simple flats that her mother picked out for her. She was wearing a white shirt under her maroon cardigan, and her dark blonde hair was pulled into a bun.
"You look great, Princess," Caleb grinned at his daughter, holding the pharmacy bag up. "I brought you some Tylenol. So you can go back to normal-"
"Whatever your normal is." Hanna finished the line from the Tylenol commercials.
The six-year-old burst into giggles, sounding exactly like her mother, only more high-pitched. Hanna and Caleb joined in on their daughter's laughter, quickly regretting doing so after Luca started crying.
Caleb came to Hanna's rescue, and rocked their son until he calmed down. Once the infant was calm, Caleb reached down on the coffee table to pick up his car keys. "Are we going now?"
Hanna reached down and grabbed her white Celine bag. "Yeah, let's go."

Aria watched as her daughter entered the doors of her art class, waving goodbye before disappearing into the community center.
It was now ten in the morning on a cold Saturday morning. Aria was on her way to visit Spencer at the hospital before she realized that Sophie had art class every Saturday morning.

"Call Spencer." Aria said into the navigation system. Ever since she traded in her Honda for the BMW, the navigation system was a lifesaver because she almost always forgot her cell phone at home when she was out.
"Calling Spencer." The navigation system said back.
It rung for several moments, until Toby answered the phone.
"Hey, Aria. What's up?" He asked.
"How is she?" Aria asked, putting her car back into drive. "And how's Samantha?"
"Spencer fainted, and Samantha is doing great." Toby answered her questions.
"What? Why?" Aria was surprised. "Why'd she faint?"
"I don't even know," Toby confessed. "But she'll be awake and well by the time you get here."
"Did Samantha give birth yet? No one's called me."
"Yeah. It's a girl."
"Congratulations!" Aria felt tears build up in her eyes. "I'll be there soon."

Hanna handed the white car seat to her husband while digging in her purse for her key. It took her a while but she finally came over the solid silver key. She inserted it in the key hole and unlocked the door.
Stepping inside first, the blonde six-year-old yelled. "EMMY, WE'RE HERE!"
Hanna allowed Caleb to walk inside before her because he had the car seat, closing the door once she entered herself.
"Bryn, don't yell around," Hanna told her daughter. "Your aunt might be asleep, or Penelope might be asleep."
Before the six-year-old could defend herself, or respond to her mother, the brunette beauty entered the front hallway, the blonde trailing behind her laughing.
"Hi, my little Brynnie," Emily greeted her niece. "Penelope's with her dad so it's only us today, sweetie."
"Who is this?" Hanna smiled, eyebrow raised while examining the woman. "I feel like I've seen her before."
"Who are you?" Bryn questioned the blonde, despite that her mother already asked.
"You must be Bryn. Your auntie has told me a lot about you," Cameron smiled awkwardly. "I'm Cameron. Emily's friend."
"Oh, hi," Hanna smiled at her, shaking her hand. "I'm Hanna."
"I know," Cameron nodded before turning to her husband. "You must be Caleb," She glanced at the white G2 car seat in Caleb's hand. "And this must be your son, Lucas."
"Luca." Hanna corrected. "It's italian."
"No, it isn't," Emily laughed. "It's greek."
"Anyways," Hanna rolled her eyes at the brunette. "We'll be back to pick them up in a few hours."
"Sounds good," Emily nodded, taking the car seat from Caleb. "We'll see you then."

After saying goodbye to their two children, the couple exited Emily's home. Walking down the pathway towards the street, where Hanna's car was parked, her phone rung.
Startled by the ringtone, forgetting she changed it to a much, much louder one the day before, Hanna answered. "Hello?"
"Hanna?" Spencer replied.
"Oh, hey, Spence," Hanna coughed. "So, how is everything going?"
"Well, the baby is here, but-"
"She's here? Aw!" Hanna cooed, gripping Caleb's hand in excitement. "Congratulations, Spencer!"
"Thanks," Spencer thanked, a little annoyed about being cut off. "Would you mind coming by? I need to talk to you."
"Caleb and I were just heading to check up on the store before closing it at noon til I get back. Can it wait?" Hanna hoped it could wait. She was eager to see how much purchases were made during the huge sale she threw over the past day.
"Um, yeah, sure," Spencer answered. "I'm on the third floor. Suite 5."
"Okay." Hanna hung up the phone and looked at Caleb. "Well, we're gonna have to hurry at the store."

"I'm back with the results," Dr. Rios entered the room, waving a sealed white envelope.
"Well, hurry up," Spencer sat up straighter, her daughter in her arms. "I want to see if there's anything wrong with me."
"You are a really healthy woman, Mrs. Cavanaugh," The doctor began, pulling the contents out and reading over them. "One of the best patients I've got. But there's something really unexpected in these results.."
"Please don't let me die," Spencer begged in her head. "I need to be here for my little girl."
After a quick glance at the Cavanaughs, the doctor knew they were nervous. Spencer's lip was trembling, thinking the worst as she usually does during these moments. Toby's expression was blank.
"It's nothing serious, guys," Dr. Rios assured them. "It turns out you are pregnant."
"What?" Spencer asked, overjoyed but confused at the same time. "That can't be right. We've tried everything to have our own child. Fertility clinics, sperm donors, buying eggs. We have tried it all. This can't be happening."
"You are going to be a big sister," Toby cooed to his daughter before glancing at his confused wife. "I never thought it would happen this quick but looks like we're going to have more kids.
"That's not all. I had the nurse do a quick checkup on the results. The test determined two fertilized eggs." Dr. Rios grinned. "You're having twins."

Cameron watched as Emily filled up their glasses with Coca-Cola, and poured her niece a glass of juice. They had found out just a few minutes ago that Spencer had her baby, but didn't hear the other news.
"Do you want me to go hand Bryn her juice and snack?" Cameron asked, trying to be as helpful to the brunette as possible.
"Uh, no," Emily declined, grabbing her niece's snack. "She seems a little off now. I feel like I should talk to her. You know, one on one."
"I understand." Cameron nodded.
"But if you want to help with something," Emily looked at Luca, fast asleep in his playpen. "You can change Luca. Hanna hates leaving him in the same outfit all day. She packs about three outfits for the day."
"That's a supermom for you." Cameron smiled, walking over to the playpen. "I'll get the little guy changed and we'll take the kids for a walk or something."
"Bryn has dance class in an hour. We can take Luca out, though." Emily explained, and left the kitchen.

Walking into the living room, Hanna's six-year-old daughter was sprawled out on the sectional sofa, iPad in hand and playing a game.
"Sweetie?" Emily made her appearance known and placed the bowl of grapes and the glass of juice on the coffee table. "Here's something to snack on."
"Thanks." She looked at her aunt before turning her attention back to the tablet.
"You look like something's bugging you," Emily sat down next to her niece. "Do you want to tell me what it is?"
"Mommy says we're moving to London," Bryn shut her iPad off. "Is that true?"
"It is," Emily nodded. "It's only for a bit, though. Mommy has to work."
"But can't Mommy work here?" Bryn asked. "I don't wanna leave Aunt Aria and Auntie Spencer. And all my friends."
"I understand, Bryn," Emily bit her lip, unsure of how to respond. "But we're all going to be coming to visit you. Sophie, Penelope and Spencer's daughter. We will all be there a lot."
"Do you promise?" Bryn looked up.
"Pinkie swear." Emily smiled and held out her pinkie.

"Aw, look at my little niece," Hanna entered the hospital room, smiling at the infant in Spencer's arms. "Congratulations."
Spencer glanced at Hanna, and Caleb. She was surprised to see them holding hands after the night before. Their argument was pretty intense, leaving the blonde in tears. But knowing how strong their marriage was, it wasn't that big of a surprise. "Hey, guys."
"Hey Toby," Caleb nodded at him. "Congrats, man."
"Soooo..." Hanna let go of her husband's hand and went over to Spencer's bed, giving her a half hug. "tell me why you're in a bed when I know for a fact Samantha gave birth."
"She fainted." Toby answered, much to Spencer's dismay.
Spencer rolled her eyes. "I did. But we got really surprising results to my episode.."
"What are they?" Hanna squirted some hand sanitizer on her hands, giving Spencer a hint that she wanted to hold the baby.

Before Spencer could answer, a petite woman with perfectly plucked eyebrows entered the room. "I would've came earlier but I had to talk to my boss about my leave-"
"Your leave?" Hanna raised her eyebrows. "I knew it!"
"Knew what?" Aria asked, wondering if Hanna somehow magically knew about her pregnancy.
"You're pregnant." Hanna answered in satisfaction after Aria shot her a look.
"You are?" Spencer looked at Aria.
"I wanted to tell everyone over a dinner or something," Aria sighed. "But yes."
"Really?" Spencer grinned. "We're gonna be buddies."
"You sound like such a guy right now, Spence," Hanna laughed, grabbing her niece from Spencer. "What do you mean?"
"I'm pregnant, too." Spencer revealed.
"We're having twins." Toby told their friends.
Hanna had a long stare at Spencer's daughter, while everyone else congratulated an overjoyed Spencer. "Spence?"
"Yeah, Han?" Spencer looked at her friend.
"What's her name?" Hanna asked.
"Cheyenne Rayleigh Cavanaugh." Spencer told her.

Response to the review that asked if I was homophobic because of my choice to have Emily with a man in the beginning of this story:

No. I'm not homophobic at all. It's pretty crazy that some readers are assuming this.
I'm bisexual. *audience gasps* Yes, it's true. I like boys and some girls.
I may or may not have a girlfriend but I am in a close friendship/most-likely a relationship. I don't know how to explain it.
I might just be confused but I don't know. Like Khloe Kardashian, my motto is "I don't know."
