Most of the time, Christine enjoyed the fact that she and Spock shared a bond and didn't need to speak to convey their thoughts and yes, their emotions. Sometimes, though, it frustrated her as it made surprising him difficult.
Spock had sensed heightened emotions from Christine all day. Their schedules kept them apart until evening, however, so Spock returned to the quarters they shared with nearly unmasked curiosity. Christine didn't usually bother with shielding thoughts from him, so his first words were somewhat abrupt. "Tell me what you have been hiding, ashayam."
Finally unleashing her thoughts, Christine allowed him to see her secret.
"My mother will be quite pleased with the knowledge that she is to have a grandchild," was all Spock said out loud, but Christine could feel both the excitement and anxiety racing through his mind. She finally moved toward him and pressed herself into his arms.
Spock was very nearly nervously pacing the bridge. Christine had not looked well before her scheduled appointment with Doctor M'Benga and he wanted to know all was well. Without warning, he collapsed against the wall. Once he recovered enough to move, he sprinted to the turbolift and on to sickbay, not regarding the numerous concerned glances of the bridge crew.
M'Benga had obviously expected him and informed Spock Christine had returned to their quarters. Spock sprinted off again.
When he swept into the room, he hesitated. He was feeling so much, almost too much. He couldn't seem to react either logically or emotionally. Christine turned and caught his eye for just a moment and without a word, they collapsed against each, Christine sobbing for both of them. Spock couldn't let go that much, but his eyes were by no means dry.
When she could finally speak, Christine's first words were a whispered apology. Spock took her face in his hands. "There is no one to blame, ashayam." He stopped there. Words were of no use at the moment. She didn't want to hear them and truly he didn't want to say them. He did the only thing he could-continue to hold her close.
A/N: originally posted on Tumblr as a request by a roleplay partner. Normally, I wouldn't write Spock and Christine as a couple. I apologize for any laxk of knowledge about Vulcan customs.
