Christine Chapel glanced toward the doors as they slid open with a muted hiss. A man with dark hair and a frown etched on his face entered. Probably the last medical officer reporting. She turned back to the group of nurses and resumed her briefing.
She was interrupted by a series of whistles and shouts before she finally heard, "Hey, blondie. Quit gossiping and get over here."
The nurse coolly glanced over at the doctor, not stopping her briefing. The next thing she knew, he was at her shoulder, spinning her around to face him. "Oh, were you addressing me?"
"Damn right I was and you know it."
"I'm sorry, but if you don't address me by name, how am I supposed to know you wish to speak to me?" she asked with artificial sweetness.
"I'll use your name right now to put you on report for insubordination."
"Chapel, Christine. 8 9 Delta Charlie 7. Head nurse, U.S.S. Enterprise. And don't forget to include that I refused to respond 'hey, blondie.'"
The doctor's harsh expression faltered. "I'm sorry, I didn't-"
"I don't want your apologies. Is there something you needed, Doctor?"
"The patient record system makes no sense."
She nodded. "The other doctors have mentioned it, but unfortunately that falls under the CMO's domain and he doesn't wish to change anything."
"What if I spoke to him?"
"How could you fail to sway him with your tact and charm?"
The doctor frowned. "Touché, Nurse Chapel." He stuck out his hand. "Leonard McCoy."
