Chapter 17: Back to school
The sun shines brightly over the world waking every living creature on the planet, the sun poke through the small opening of Abigail's curtains shining on the two teens face waking them up. Markus groan as he slowly opens his left eye, he turns his head to look at Abigail who yawns cutely. She still had her eyes closed and dug her face deeper into Markus's shoulder.
"Abigail..."
"Hmm...?"
"I have to go." Abigail eyes shot open and she lifts her head swiftly.
"No please don't."
"Abigail I got school tomorrow."
"So skip, leave, get home schooled like me. Going to a real school is for losers." Markus chuckled at her.
"I really do need to leave Abigail."
"But every time you leave something happens to you, just like yesterday."
"Yesterday was my fault, I got cocky and I thought I could fight the Juggernaut on my own."
"And the time you left for two years."
"I..." Markus felt her grip tighten on his arm.
"Don't leave me again please."
Markus sighs and looks into Abigail's eyes, her lavender colored iris and her sad facial expression pierces Markus's heart. He got up and reaches for his bag that he had left on the floor, he open it and pull out an electronic. Almost identical to his scroll from beacon but instead of being a transparent screen, it had a matte black back.
"Abigail I'm sorry I really got to go, but here take this. This way we can communicate with each other while I'm at Beacon." Markus said while he hands her the tablet.
She frowns but Markus gently holds the back of her head and kisses her forehead.
"... Promise you'll visit? Like every day?"
"At least twice a month Abby."
"Every weekend of the month?"
"Abigail..."
"Fine but you better visit me or else I won't talk to you."
"That's not really a punishment you know." Markus chuckled.
"J-just leave you fool." Abigail grabbed one of her pillows and hit Markus across the face.
Markus rolled his eye and smiled; he got up and was heading for the door. Abigail tries to hold onto his hand a little longer until her fingers slowly slip out of his hand, as he reaches for the door and opens it he turns his head a gave her a soft smile before closing it. He stood outside Abigail's room wishing he had never left the room, he took a deep breath and with a flash of black electricity he vanished.
He reappears in front of his apartment of the city; he looks around to see that the streets were empty. After a moment he enters is home dropping his bag onto the ground and heading straight towards the bathroom. He slowly took off his torn clothing and hoped into the shower, Markus rests his head on the tile wall while hot water drips down on his body. After finishing his shower he sport on some black jeans, before leaving he look at his upper body gazing at all the scars. A bell chimes making Markus snap out of his gaze; he quickly walked down the stairs putting on a beige long sleeved shirt and a new eye patch before opening the door to see Lax, Nigel and their crew waiting outside.
"Oh hey, what are you guys doing here?" Markus asked.
"Is that really all you have to say to us?" Izzy spoke with a hint of aggravation in her voice.
Markus swifts his eye to look at Lax.
"We're on break." Lax told him.
Markus let them in with the four sitting his living room watching TV, While Nigel, Markus and Lax sat at the kitchen. Markus passes water bottles to the others before sitting down and opening his, Lax brought out a folder and passes to Markus.
"Hmm what's this?" He asked.
"Magnar told us that before the invasion you guys had a conversation, he didn't get the chance to tell her name but he told us to give this to you on our break." Lax said
Markus opens the folder to see a picture only showing the figures back, she had long white hair that reached waist length and she was wearing a royal purple kimono. Markus moves the picture aside to see another paper with information on it; it didn't have much expect her name, where she lives and her powers.
"Well this is interesting..." Markus whispered.
"What is?" Lax questions him.
"It says here that her name is Akira Kohaku a.k.a Shiro Hi and she lives at... Menagerie?!"
"What the hell? Why would she live all the way there?!"
"Says here that she settled down there and that's it, also says here that her semblance is manipulation of fire... White fire."
"Doesn't sound so dangerous."
"The type of fire that can literally burn through anything... And turn them into ashes within a matter of seconds." Markus said not taking his eye off the paper.
Lax gulped.
"Oh boy... Got to make sure I don't piss her off."
"Who is she?" Lax asked.
"Someone who can help me with Kami no Kanjo."
"Ohhhh... Wait where is your sword?"
"It's in the bag over there." Markus said pointing at the bag on the ground by the front door.
"Alright if you don't mind I'll take it with me to get it fixed, while you were gone there was a blacksmith that open so many stables all over Remnant making her rich. I'm pretty sure they can fix it." Lax explained.
"Does this rich lady have a name?" Markus asked.
"Uhhh well we don't really know, she hasn't really shown herself on the media at all." Lax said chuckling nervously.
"Hmm... Ah well it's all yours, oh do me a favour can you tell Magnar to send a Bullhead at the port tomorrow morning? I have no way get back to school."
"Sure thing bro!"
"Oh and here take this." Markus got up and went to grab his bag; he opens it and pulled out three tablets.
"Two for you and one for Magnar just in case of anything." Markus passes the tablets to Nigel and Lax.
"Woah... Hold on... Does this mean you're thinking about coming back?" Lax asked with sparkles in his eyes. He then jumps out of his chair and pulls Markus into a bear hug.
"No you fool! However if you need extra help I won't mind tagging along."
Lax frowned putting Markus down making him roll his eye, after a few minutes the others left with Lax holding Markus's sword. As they left Markus check the time noticing it was noon, being very tired he decided to sleep. However he didn't plan to sleep very long until when he woke up at eight in the morning, he groan not wanting to get up but he did so anyways. Grabbing some clothing consisting of a white shirt, burgundy jogging pants and a pair of black sneakers Markus rushes down the stairs taking his duffle bag with him as he left the house. He arrive at the port just in time as he notice a Bullhead waiting for him and the pilot waiting outside, Markus walks towards the aircraft as the pilot notices him.
"You Ebony?" The Pilot asked.
"Yes."
"C'mon boy let's go, been waiting for you for an hour and a half."
"I'm sorry; I didn't to keep you waiting."
"Don't be boy! After what happen on Saturday and what you've gone through, you should have the year off." The pilot said as the two of them walked inside the Bullhead.
"Oh Man I wish..." Markus chuckled.
"So where am I taking you my boy?!" the pilot asked as he sat down turning the aircraft on.
"Beacon."
"Alright my boy, taking off now!" the Bullhead start to hover above the ground before it fully took off.
It was quiet for all three teams as they sat down eating their breakfast, well more staring at it. It's been two days since the invasion and it hadn't left their mind. The horror they watch when their friend was beaten to a bloody pulp was burned into their memories almost haunting them, however they did not know that Markus was alive due to Pyrrha turning off the TV quickly. Combat training was to start and teams got up quietly leaving for their class.
The Bullhead landed with Markus jumping off it waving goodbye to the pilot and made his way inside the school, as he was in the school he made his way into his dorm room seeing that no one was in there. Markus drops his bag down and changes into his uniform, as he was changing he notice that the room was different. The beds were moved to the side of the room while a TV hanged from the wall; Markus shrugs as he tied his shoes. He left his room with his bag heading to Ozpin's office.
Ozpin was seating by his desk looking at some papers while sipping on his drink, he places his mug down on the desk before resting his head on his hand. A knock on the door interrupted his train of thought as his looked up.
"You may come in." Ozpin said.
The door opens with Markus poking half of his body inside the room, Ozpin eyes grew wide and he almost became speechless.
"M-Markus..."
"Ozpin."
"I... Thought you were dead." Ozpin said softly.
"Same here, but Kami no Kanjo wouldn't let me go."
"Well... I'm glad to see you alive but is it not too soon for you to come back, I can give you time off."
"No way, besides I think I have some explaining to do to some teammates..."
"Oh... Well if I am correct they should be in Combat training right now with Ms. Goodwitch, I'll have know that you are on your way."
"Great, thank you. Now if you excuse me." Markus left the room closing the door, Ozpin sighs then took his scroll and type on it sending a message to Goodwitch.
Markus made his way to the changing room, as he got to his locker he drops down his bag and opens it pulling out the clothing he took from The Order. He puts it on seeing that it fits perfectly, putting his sword into a black sheath shape as rectangle he straps it around his upper body. He took his metal gauntlet and puts it on as he takes off his eye patch closing his eye at the same time; he wraps a black thick cloth around his right forearm as well as a black fingerless glove. He put his bag into the locker and got up and heads for the exit, before he left he stops to check himself at a mirror. He took a good look at himself before pouting, he then sighs and grabs with his left hand his hair and ties it up.
"New outfit... new haircut."
Black electricity surrounds his right hand and slowly moves it towards the tied up part of his hair cutting it off. He holds onto the long black hair before throwing it into the garbage, he leaves the changing room summoning his helmet and he walks towards the Combat arena.
"Thank you Ms Schnee and Mr Price, you may leave the stage." Goodwitch said.
The two nodded as they walked off the stage, Weiss and Idris were pick to fight each other leaving with the fight as a tie. Weiss was smart using only her glyphs and dust to fight against Idris as her opponent was very quick dodging her attacks and jumping away from her ice, although the fight didn't leave anyone harmed. Goodwitch looks around the arena then a bleep noise distracted her, he took out her scroll with a message opening up reading:
Markus Brooks is alive and on his way to the Combat arena
Her eyes widen but kept her composure, she looks up look for another pair to fight. She eyed Cardin and thought of something... Atrocious.
"Will the following pair of students please come up on the stage, Cardin Winchester and Ebony,"
The arena was filled with gasps and muttering between the students, Teams ELIC, JNPR and RWBY became shocked and look at each other. He couldn't be alive could he they thought.
Eights minute later and Markus was nowhere in sight, Cardin became irritated as he fidgets and walks around the stage as Goodwitch stands patiently. Waiting to long wasn't really Cardin's thing as he facepalmed and groan, looking up at the ceiling then at Goodwitch.
"Argh Miss! He ain't going to show up so just make me the winner of this fight iight?"
"Then how will I know you're good enough to be a hunter... Winchester!" A voiced boomed filling the arena silence.
The voice scared the students as they looked around wondering who it was, even Goodwitch seemed a little frighten by the voice. Footsteps were clearly heard as they sound like they were stomping, as the footsteps got louder Markus walked into the light revealing himself.
"Making you winner wouldn't be fun now would it?"
