Chapter 7: Prelude

It took until the day after Robin's fateful helicopter rescue and Barney getting away from Quinn to get a chance to meet with me but I was like always skeptical when it came to Barney and his theories.

"Lesbian Robin is a secret agent?"

Barney shushed me at that very mention of the word lesbian. "Ted after I got the call I had Tracy do a background check and somehow this chick isn't even supposed to be alive."

The looks of skepticism grew all over my face. "How is a guy looking for a dead girl?"

"Ted, Maria Hill was listed to have perished in a fire on the day me and Marshall met her in the street. The report said she immolated herself and her partner Lucy Winters after discovering she had slit her wrists."

"The girl just faked her own death."

"But Robin must have met her sometime and they switched, which means we've been living with her for some time."

That took a while for me to comprehend how could the robin that we have seen for the past five months, the same one not been her at all.

Meanwhile an older gentleman entered and went right up to the booth. He looked like he was in a daze as Wendy came up.

"Ciroc with lemon."

The older gentleman was farmiliar yet there was something off about his weird demeanor, then it dawned on me who he looked like, but Barney slapped his suit in amazement as he figured it out.

"Erik Selvig."

"Wait who…"

"That's Erik Selvig, I know all about him GNB Has a branch in New Mexico, he did some shady deals and lost most of his lab funding works out of an RV like the guy on Breaking Bad."

My head just spun like crazy "Barney how can GNB do a surveillance like that there not part of the government."

"Ted, GNB can do any and everything you can think of with the exception of having its tellers pogo stick over 38 grandmothers."

"And I Thought I was the only one who likes Ellen."

"She has a way with words."

Without realizing it another person carrying what looked like a compound bow came into the bar and sat down, motioned Wendy to grab him a water and began whispering to Selvig.

"It looks like hes got the same blank look on his face as Selvig."

"Wonder where they're off to. I bet its Legen-Wait for…"

While Barney kept on with trying to fit Legendary into this pun I noticed the two of them pull out an ipad an on it contained a picture of Robin. And one swipe revealed, the other side of Robin, in a full blue uniform with short hair, that must be the Maria Barney was blathering on about.

"Barn..., you want to play a game called "Call Robin for me…" and get her down here."

"Ted just because we both dated her doesn't mean I can be unfaithful to Quinn."

"You said it yourself that this Logan Killian wants her or Maria, our best bet is to truth serum Robin into revealing Maria's whereabouts then we won't have to walk into a possible mafia sting."

"OK OK I'll call her but its your funeral otherwise."

Barney dialed on the phone while I watched Selvig and the other guy leave with 10 cases of beer. It may be intuition but I somehow knew that any problems I was having with Robin then had to take a backseat, when the fate of the world may be at stake.

In an apartment in DC However Maria was trying to get Steve Rogers back into fighting shape as he was lacking it.
