Chapter 8: Q&A
The space was new, but the area felt the same as Maria climbed the stairs up to his apartment. As part of the team that recovered Rogers from his ice prison she helped to see his transition back into Shield custody. Although what didn't help when that on agent in Manhattan blew her cover and Rogers woke up. Now after being set up in an apartment in the Dupont Circle block of the second ward, Maria got a cryptic call from Rogers and went over to check it out.
"Steve, its Agent Hill can you open up…"
With no noise coming from inside the apartment she forcibly broke her way in and saw how unkempt he kept the place. Clearly him being brought out of suspended animation really took its toll.
"Oh boy…"
It was on the couch that she finally discovered the captain lumped out in a rut. Taking the chance for a little fun she flipped the couch and sent him rolling.
"Had the depression taught you nothing Rogers, people generally don't lay out on couches unless they don't have homes."
Rogers quickly got to his feet and allowed Maria to clean up his space. After showing him how to work all the appliances that were set up and another hour of him quickly getting the hang of things Maria sat down and got to her purpose of being here.
"You're looking a little bit weak there."
"It's hard to compensate for 70 years of being stuck and unable to lift even if you got a permanent physique like mine."
"I'm saying if you ever wanted to so to say work out the kinks, there is actually a gym a bit out of Georgetown that may suit your needs. It's old fashioned but for your sake old fashioned may be the best bit of fashion of all."
Rogers looked at his apartment and wondered what or if at all he could do to circumvent his new reality.
"Do you happen to have a map to that gym?"
Hill handed him an address along with a basic cellphone.
"It's not up to todays standards but it can get you started at least. Call that number when your done I do believe someone else wanted to speak with you."
"Not that one guy with the eye patch is it?"
"No, someone else."
Hill said bye and left the apartment.
Back in Manhattan her doppelganger was in the dressing room at World Wide News prepping for another evening of broadcast dreading what king of remarks would get thrown her way by her co-anchor.
"Sandy better not do anything really rash."
The door then got knocked on and around that time Robin usually knew who was knocking.
"I'm on my way out Patrice, seriously you don't have to be around all my jobs."
The last thing she expected to here was a male voice.
"Delivery for Ms. Scherbatsky."
The confusion was all over her face. As she reached for the door and opened it a washcloth covered her quickly knocking her out. The body was at most very difficult to have dragged away.
2 Hours later Barney and Quinn were at home watching the evening news. When a breaking headline dropped over the screen.
"This is breaking news from right here in our very own studio, I'm Sandy Rivers. We have just received word of a kidnapping of our very own Robin Scherbatsky. Mere minutes before our broadcast tonight…"
The jaws of Barney and Quinn were draped wide open. As were Marshal and Lilly as they were listening in on livestream as they went to a Mets game with Lilly's Dad. As for me I happened to be doing some work at the house on your bedrooms when I got a text alert from Punchy out of all people.
"Oh No Robin…" Was my lone thought as I dialed the others.
In a dark room in a warehouse… The cloth that was draped over her eyes was suddenly removed. Robin looking like a victim about to be water boarded was nearly disheveled.
"What's going on?"
"Calm down Ms. Scherbatsky." A voice came through a speaker on the wall. "You're not in any danger we just need to ask you a few questions."
"Why would I answer anything from you guys."
"For the sake of Ms. Hill and your friends Robin…" A man now entered the room speaking emphatically. "You will answer, I'm Clint Barton and were going to get to be seeing a whole lot of each other."
Barton left her a sub and bottle of water and sealed the room. Meanwhile she did notice a bathroom in the room so at least she would have some semblance of respect.
"Never played a kidnap victim before?"
Robin sighed and took her seat at the table eating what may be the first in a long line of forced meals.
