The others stood by and watched as Madam Pomfrey worked on the two students lying on cots in the infirmary. Subtle changes kept flashing back and forth over Aladdin such as a faint change in skin tone and her hair would turn a light auburn as opposed to her usual dark hair. Albus changed much more drastically, his hair flashing from strawberry blonde and freckles appearing on his face then back to the almost carbon copy look of his father.
Madam Pomfrey stepped back and sighed, "That's as much as I can do without shocking their systems."
"Will they be OK?" Romana asked as James wrapped his arms around her, resting his head upon hers.
"I…I'm not sure," Madam Pomfrey confessed looking between the children on the cots and Romana. "Their magical reserves are the largest that I've ever seen. The most curious thing about this is that they have the same exact amount of magic."
"Is that not normal?" Scorpius asked, confused.
"Not at all," Hermione said. "Everyone has a different amount of magic at their disposal. They fluctuate usually as you get older, but by age eleven, the level should be stable. There are times where the magical levels of two people can be exceedingly close, but there is always a difference, though it can be miniscule. However, that's with identical twins." She shook her head, her face betraying her shock. "It shouldn't be possible, yet it is."
Madam Pomfrey nodded at this, "With the amount of magic that they used-well, let's just say anyone else would've been dead by now." Looking at the students just once more, tears filled her eyes. "Usually, this would be when I'd kick you all out. Whoever wants to stay-stay. Whoever wants to go-go. But someone has got to get Aladdin's guardians. Just in case…you know." With that, the portly nurse headed back to her office.
Those words drove it home that there was a chance Aladdin and Albus wouldn't be waking up again.
"We need to go get everyone," Scorpius told Romana, meaning his parents, Teddy, Anna and the other Slytherins.
"Aladdin would kill us for letting Anna see her like this," Romana hissed.
"Romana, this might be the last time Anna would see her alive!" Scorpius scowled angrily. "And seeing her just unconscious would have to be better than seeing her dead."
"Don't you dare talk like that, Aladdin's gonna pull through this. She has too. If she doesn't-who knows what'll happen to Anna?" Romana asked, turning her eyes to look down on the ground.
Scorpius scoffed pessimistically. "What'll happen to any of us? The ministry's going to claim that the Slytherins are so evil they kill their own. And even if she pulls through, none of the parents are going to be happy about any of this and will demand we be expelled. Face it-we're just kids, there's nothing we can do and we're just kidding ourselves." With that, Scorpius turned on the heel of his foot and ran off to Merlin knows where.
"Scorpius!" Romana called after him, but he was already gone. Sitting down on the floor with her back against the foot of the bed, she curled up and sobbed into her knees.
Sitting down next to her, James wrapped the sobbing girl in his arms and glared at the teachers, telling them all to go away. Alexander left to go to Malfoy Manor and relay the news while Narcissa went off to find her grandson, knowing that she might just make it worse but brownie points for trying. The teachers all left to do various things, some of them going to monitor the unconscious rebels and others going to calm the children then send them to bed.
Hermione's heart broke for the poor girl. It was them that she finally realized it. Throughout the stay, Romana and her had formed a sort of bond that was torn apart when Hermione claimed the decrees were a good thing and started to insult Aladdin. Now, though, she finally saw the sixteen year old girl who had been hated for something that had happened about a decade before she was born.
As Ron gazed upon the unconscious children, he noticed that he actually felt slightly worried for Aladdin. She wasn't a bad kid, not exactly…just a Slytherin. Which equaled bad, he scolded himself, but he was starting to wonder if his feelings were just a bit misguided.
The doors to the infirmary opened and the first person in was Anna who, once seeing Aladdin ran straight to her cot.
"Allie," She sobbed, shaking Aladdin's arm. "C'mon, Allie, wake up. Wake up!" Anna sobbed. "You've gotta wake up-you promised me. You promised me that you wouldn't leave me!" Anna's sobbing became hysterical as she tried to get the girl to wake up.
Draco pushed past the staring Hermione, Ron and Harry and scooped Anna up, sitting down in one of the plastic chairs, rocking her slightly. The rest of the Slytherins pushed past the trio to gaze at their almost sister. Astoria gently ran her fingers through Aladdin's hair, tears streaming down her face.
Harry shook his head and walked over to Albus, surprised to find that some of the Slytherins were over there as well, including two of the triplets-Sophie and Susan. Albus' hair flashed strawberry again causing Jacob, who had grown fond of Albus since he'd got him some free Weasley prank products, Susan, and Sophie to jump.
"What was that?" Sophie asked, furrowing her eyebrows.
Harry sighed and opened his mouth to speak.
"They're flashing back to how they looked when they were just Edward and Corrine," A small, melodic voice explained from the doorway.
Everyone turned or looked up to see a pretty ghost of a young woman hovering in the hair. She wore outdated clothing and had a sorrowful look on her face. Harry recognized her as the Grey Lady, known as Helena Ravenclaw in life. Meaning she was Aladdin's sister.
"Who are you?" Jacob asked.
"Idiot!" Walker hissed, smacking him upside the head. "That is Helena Ravenclaw. Merlin-do you ever read?!"
They began bickering which Astoria quickly stopped with a glare, reminding them about the current situation at hand. The Grey Lady floated over to the aisle between the two unconscious children.
"They are the reincarnations of Edward and Corrine that I've heard so much about," Helena mused. "I should have known to never doubt my mother, she's always right." Her eyebrows furrowed as she looked at Edward. "I didn't think that would be transferred." She said, placing a ghostly hand on Edward's cheek, revealing a small jagged scar.
"He was born with it," Harry explained.
"No, he wasn't," Helena quickly discounted with a sigh. "That happened when I convinced Corrine that father was feeding the Basilisk while father thought Corrine was. The Basilisk then went hunting and tried to go after Edward. Thankfully, he was trying to figure out some magic, two way mirror my mother had come up with and just saw a reflection. Corrine was there and sent the Basilisk away again, but the cut came from when he toppled over and banged his cheek against the desk." At the confused looks, she clarified, "They were in the library."
"Why in the world would you do that?" Hermione exclaimed, shocked by the ghost's previous actions.
"Because I was jealous and petty," Helena sighed. "I was the smart one, sure, but Corrine was the special one, though she didn't know it until about it until two months before the prophecy was supposed to become true. Corrine was always the cute one or, as she got older, the beautiful one. She could cast stronger spells than I could even imagine doing, everyone liked her, and overall, she was the Heir of Slytherin. Back then, everyone wanted to be in Slytherin and no one wanted to be in Ravenclaw." Helena gave a sigh, "I was a stupid teenager." Shaking her head, she turned to the three adults, "By the way, your children, nieces and nephews wanted me to tell you that they went to bed."
Harry nodded and turned to look down at his on, wiping the hair off of his forehead. Suddenly, Albus began to stir and opened one eye which, instead of green, was hazel.
"Dad?" Albus asked groggily. Everyone looked over, astonished that he was awake. "What's going on?"
"Nothing," Harry cooed softly, as everyone breathed a sigh of relief. "Go back to sleep."
Albus shook his head defiantly and propped himself up on one hand. Scooting back on the bed, he rested his back on the wall, putting his aching head in his hands.
"Why do I feel like I've been trampled by a horde of rhinos?" Albus murmured into his hands.
Harry quickly explained what had happened as his son nodded along.
"Everyone's OK?" He asked, looking past his father at Draco.
Draco rolled his eyes exasperatedly, "Mostly." He glared teasingly at the Potter-Weasley adults. "Your kids are freaking paranoid by the way. I mean, for Christ's sake, I never got within twenty feet of them and they'd start hyperventilating."
Ron and Hermione blushed a deep red at being called out as Hermione stuttered out an apology. Draco quickly cut her off.
"It's called a joke." Draco smiled, oddly at ease with the situation. "They were paranoid, but it's understandable."
Something suddenly occurred to Albus, as he looked at Draco in shock. "Aladdin's going to kill you!"
Everyone looked at Albus like he was crazy. Draco quirked an eyebrow at him, "That's nothing new, but why this time?"
"He's right," Walker said as it dawned on him. "Aladdin's going to kill both of you!" He gestured to Astoria.
"OK-who put crazy pills in the feast?" Astoria demanded, looking at all the Slytherins.
Anna murmured something under her breath, looking away at a corner of the wall.
"Hm?" Draco asked curiously. "What'd you say?"
Anna sighed, "You're breaking both your paroles and the third decree."
Just as Draco opened his mouth to reply, Hermione interrupted. "Screw the decrees." She said. "Aladdin and Romana, they were both right. We caused all of this, and now Albus and Aladdin might die. Those stupid decrees were made in the height of morning then just kept tumbling to remind the public that we had everything under control." There was a sigh. "I guess we didn't."
A loud yawn broke the then static air. "I have always loved to be proven right." Aladdin said with a soft smile.
"Allie!" Anna exclaimed launching herself onto the bed causing Aladdin to burst into laughter.
"Hey, little girl," Aladdin smiled, hugging Anna tightly.
After a moment, Anna broke away, and glared. "Never, ever, do that again."
Aladdin chuckled, "I don't plan to."
Anna's eyes narrowed further, "Promise."
Rolling her eyes, Aladdin linked her pinkie with Anna's. "I promise."
Aladdin's POV
It had been a few days since the failed rebellion. So far, I hadn't been told what was going to happen to the rebels and whenever I asked, it was skillfully avoided. As could be expected, I was going stir crazy and driving Albus up the wall.
"I spy with my little eye something that is…" I sang, looking around the drab walls of the infirmary.
"White." Albus stated from where he was lying down with an arm over his eyes.
"No, brown." I corrected, changing what I was going to say.
"My eye," Albus deadpanned, looking at me with a bored look with his own brown eye and one green eye while I sported one light blue eye and one dark brown.
Grumbling, I threw my head back, banging it on the wall. There was a slight twinge of pain, but I ignored it.
"Where is Madam Pomfrey?" I groaned. "I never thought I'd say this, but I'd even go to potions right now!"
Albus looked at me incredulously, "Oh, really?"
"OK-Charms," I restated.
Albus snorted with an amused smile on his face. "I knew it."
The sound of squeaky sneakers came down the infirmary from the storage room and soon enough, Madam Pomfrey came into the little quadrant that had been created for Albus and me. She carried multiple potion vials that caused both Albus and I to groan.
The nurse just rolled her eyes and separated the vials evenly.
"This is your last round of potions," She promised. "Once you get these down, you need to go to the Headmistress' office."
With a sigh, we each started on the potions. After a small while, we had finally gotten through the potions in varying degrees. Albus had a slight grimace on his face whilst I was full on gagging.
"Someone's a little dramatic," Albus joked, as he pulled on his shoe. I rolled my eyes and hopped out of the bed, slipping on a pair of flip flops.
"Let's go," I suggested, grabbing his hand and leading him to the Headmistress' office.
We reached the phoenix statue and Albus said the password- "Lemon drops"…what the hell? The staircase brought us up to the office where there were multiple people such as Minister Kingsley, Weasel, Professor Granger-Weasley, Mr Potter along with Draco and Astoria. Obviously, Professor McGonagall was there as well. While McGonagall was sat behind the desk, the others sat in multiple chairs on the other side with two chairs saved smack dab in the middle-obviously for Albus and I.
"Mr Potter, Miss Parker," Professor McGonagall smiled at Albus and me. "Nice to see that you're feeling better."
We walked to the chairs and sat down.
"Nice to feel better," Albus joked with an easy smile. It was odd that he was so easy around these people, while I still felt as if my spine had been replaced with a metal rod despite most of the people having seen me in a hospital or infirmary bed three times. "What's up?"
Professor McGonagall sighed, "We're here to discuss how the rebels should be punished. Lucius has been discovered to be far too dangerous to let live, I'm afraid."
"Most of the wizarding world, obviously, wants the rebels in prison," The minister explained. "And I can't say that I disagree. They're dangerous beyond belief."
"They had no hope, they had nothing to lose." I growled angrily. "For them, jail would be better than where they are now. There stuck in a weird middle ground-the muggle world doesn't know they exist and the Wizarding World is afraid of them for something they have nothing to deal with." I groaned. "Does everyone have to forget that Merlin himself was a Slytherin?"
"This has nothing to do with what house they're in," Minister Kingsley said adamantly.
"You're kidding, right?" Draco deadpanned, leaning over so that he could look at the Minister. "I have Teddy Lupin living in my house."
"Nonsense," Minister Kingsley rolled his eyes. "Auror Weasley pronounced him dead years ago."
Weasel sighed, "Yes…but even then I didn't really think that." Everyone looked at Weasel in shock, who shrugged his shoulders. "We all felt betrayed. Harry got mad, even, and it had nothing to do with Slytherin, at least for him. The rest of the family completely blew up on him. Teddy felt like we didn't love him anymore, and I thought that he was evil, I guess. So, when he jumped off the cliff, I didn't actually go down to see if he had made it or not."
"Yeah, thanks for the concern, Uncle Ron." A dry voice said from a dark corner of the room.
I turned my neck so fast, I almost gave myself whiplash. There in a shadowed corner stood Teddy.
"Who isn't in this castle that's not supposed to?" I asked in exasperation.
"Hey!" Teddy exclaimed, seemingly hurt. "I would have been here the first day…but I kind of got…held up?"
"Yeah, with Rebekah," Draco muttered under his breath not so discretely.
I looked at Teddy in an annoyed fashion, "I could have died…and you were with Bekah?"
"Hold up," Weasel said. "Who's Bekah?"
"Teddy's girlfriend," Draco, Astoria, Albus and I chorused with varying degrees of disgust. Albus was neutral. Astoria thought it was adorable. I was just disturbed. Bekah was a sweet girl, but Teddy dating was a very odd concept. Then there was Draco, who said it was his job to disapprove, though everyone knew he actually did like her.
"We're getting off topic," Professor McGonagall noted.
"Anyway," I sighed. "You allowed discrimination against houses, knowing that Slytherin would be hit the hardest. The rebels graduated from Hogwarts and then couldn't get jobs because of a hat. I seriously want everyone to take the time and realize that a hat decides our fate. A hat. That my parents made. I loved them and all, but mum was not the soundest of mind. Brilliant, but not exactly sound."
"Aunt Rowena was sound of mind," Albus rolled his eyes. "You just liked to push all her buttons."
"Wait a second-what are they talking about?" Kingsley asked, confused.
That was then the whole story of the year was diverged. I would explain it…but it would take 64,856 words and 132 pages. Who would want to read that? (Yes, at this point, that is how many words and pages this story is.)
"That sounds impossible," Kingsley said in shock. "But I guess if so many of you believe it…"
"She's a parseltongue, Kingsley," Mr Potter said kindly. "And it's a language you can learn easily. Plus, she can control the Basilisk." At the shocked expression, he continued. "The Basilisk regenerates every twenty-nine years or so."
"Do you all know what that means?" Kingsley demanded looking at all of us. At the blank expressions, he continued. "They inherit the castle and spots on the Wizengamot-at least when they're of age. Along with who knows how much money that's been frozen in those vaults all those years."
"I never thought about that," I gasped slightly.
"Our parents didn't have any successors after we died, and mum couldn't have any more children," Albus murmured to himself.
"And my parents probably still waited for Helena to return." I realized.
The second I realized that I had so much money for once in my life, I turned to Draco and Astoria who glared at me.
"No." Draco stated, knowing what I was thinking. "No, no, and, if I wasn't clear enough, no."
"But-"
"No, the things we've done for you were gifts. You are not paying us for gifts," Astoria declared.
I rolled my eyes, I'd figure out a
"And 'anonymous donations' will be given to you." Draco stated.
Plan. Nope, guess I wouldn't.
"Again, with being on task," Professor McGonagall sighed. "You're worse than when you were all students here, and believe me, I never thought I would say that."
Another half hour brought along a rather joyous conclusion. Lucius Malfoy was to be…ended on the fourth of February. Narcissa Malfoy was to spend two more weeks in Azkaban for being an accessory in the crime, however would not have to serve any sort of parole afterwards. People proclaimed Death Eaters were being reevaluated, such as Draco and Astoria, who quickly got their records cleaned. Those whose records were cleaned would be used as a sort of half-way house for rebels while they went to Mind-Healers at St. Mungo's. The decrees would also be revoked…oh, and the dorms were fixed-FINALLY.
It was spring break. The Wizarding World was calming down, though still trying to get used to the idea that Slytherins were not evil. The process was just slightly rough.
I was sitting in the back of the Malfoy car, trying not to fall asleep. That morning, Draco woke Anna and I up early and barely let us get dressed before shoving us in the car. Thankfully, there was already a mug of coffee in the door however it wasn't enough.
However, when we got into London city, I was jolted awake. This was…weird.
Draco parked the car in front of City Hall and got out of the car. Both he and Astoria had huge smiles on their faces.
"What's going on?" I asked suspiciously.
"Well," Draco elongated the well, seemingly nervous. "Now that we don't have to obey any decrees…we can adopt you two. Plus, we also knew that you needed new clothes, so it was kind of killing two birds with one stone if you said yes."
I gaped at him as Anna rushed at him latching around him squealing. "Yes! Yes, yes, yes, yes!"
Draco laughed as he picked up the small girl. Astoria and he looked at me. "What do you say, Allie?"
"I say that…I'm gonna regret having to have Scorpius as a brother." I joked with a huge smile on my face.
That day would be marked in my mind forever. It meant that I never had to go back to the orphanage again except for having to pack up a few loose ends. It was the best day of my life.
Two days after being adopted, Mr Potter drove Albus, Anna and I to tell Miss Hannah what was going on. She seemed to be stunned that I would be adopted and, thinking Mr Potter was the one adopting me, assured him that there were much better children.
I was standing in the room that I had spent most of my childhood in. It was odd to think that I would never see it again. I would never sleep in the bed where I first opened my text books for Hogwarts. I would never look at the walls and roll my eyes at the new drawings that Anna had put up. It was a strange feeling. The beds were bare and the walls were grey. There was no life.
That's when I noticed something underneath my bed, pushed far up against the wall. Underneath my bed was where I usually hid my trunk during the times I had to be at the orphanage, so whatever was down there had been there awhile. Dropping onto my hands and knees, I reached under my bed and grabbed something plush and filled with stuffing. Pulling it out, I gasped.
"Mopsy!" I exclaimed with a small smile.
"Hey, Allie, are you-What is that?" Albus asked, walking over to me, helping me stand up.
I smiled, "It's my stuffed animal from when I was a kid. The older girl that used to live in this room moved out right when I moved in-she gave it to me." I shook my head. "I don't even know why I kept it-Mopsy was just as raggedy back then."
Albus put an arm around my shoulders and pressed his lips to the side of my head. "I'm sorry, I don't know the answer to that."
I shrugged. "No one does." I leaned into him and we stayed like that for a few minutes when I realized something. "Do you here that?"
Albus looked around. "…no…"
"Exactly," I smiled, looking up at him. "That's the first time that we haven't been interrupted."
Albus just laughed, "C'mon, my dad's waiting."
We exited the room, passing Miss Hannah who was leading a small girl who seemed about six holding a garbage bag.
"This is your room, Maya. Dinner is at-Aladdin, what are you still doing here?" Miss Hannah asked.
"I'm just leaving," I promised.
Miss Hannah gave a curt nod and left with the small girl just standing there. I noticed that she seemed to be eyeing Mopsy.
"Here," I said, handing her the stuffed toy causing her eyes to go wide.
"What's her name?" Maya asked, her voice soft.
"Whatever you want."
"Katy." Maya smiled at the rabbit. "That was my mum's name."
My heart broke a little bit. "Bye, Maya." I smiled softly, before turning to leave.
"Bye-bye."
I hoped dearly that this little girl would one day get adopted, for she seemed so sweet. That was when I felt it, the small pulse of a young magical core coming from the small girl. It put a smile on my face to know that even if she didn't get adopted she would have a family one day. A weird family, but family.
Albus and I got into the car where Mr Potter and Anna were talking animatedly about Mickey Mouse.
As we drove away, I turned around to watch the orphanage disappear. I was officially a Malfoy. I never thought I'd be able to say that.
The. End.
Oh my f*ing god I am crying right now! It's over. Aladdin's story is…over. I will be doing a companion piece of oneshots for the characters in this story. However it will be scattered and not at all like this. I would like to thank everyone who read this and enjoyed it, and thank you to all of you who reviewed this.
Well, then, good-bye.
