Life with Turtles Ch 11
Leo was weighed down by guilt. He had made a mistake. A really bad screw-up.
It all started when their mission had taken a horrible turn for the worst. The Foot had somehow managed to catch up with them while they were making their getaway. They were fine up until they were four blocks from the manhole cover they often used to get back to the lair. Leo had a plan to escape, and as usual Raph contradicted that plan with a plan of his own. This plan did help them get away, but it nearly go Donatello thrown off a building. So when they got back Leo had began to give Raphael a lecture on safety.
Then one of their infamous arguments they had been at it for a while. It blurred to Leo but one thing led to another. All he could remember was Raph charging at him, then the next thing he knew Raph was laying still on the ground, with blood pooling around his head.
Leo was seriously wishing Raph had just listened to him for once. If he did he might be awake and talking to Spike or reading a magazine but instead he here, in the infirmary that put together in Donnie's lab a few years back.
Raph was laying there sleeping, or in a coma. Donatello said it could be either. Turns out what happened was Raph charged at Leo multiple times and managed to land a few blows but when Leo finally took a swing he sent Raph stumbling back, tripping over the punching dummy and hitting his head on the sharp edge of a brick wall in the lair.
Leonardo stood frozen as Donatello turned Raph over revealing a bloody cut on the back of his head. Donnie cleaned and bandaged the wound but couldn't fix the fact that Leo had inflicted the wound upon their hot headed brother.
"Raphael"
The turtle continued to sleep.
"c'mon Raph I can't apologize properly if you don't wake up."
"Don't worry Leo, it was an accident"
Leo turned around to see Donatello standing there. The leader sighed and stood up to stretch, he'd been sitting in the chair all night.
"Think he'll wake up soon?"
"I don't know Leo, he was exhausted from the fight and barely pulled it together before the baseball bat incident"
A soft moan interrupted the talk the two turtles were having, they turned around to see Raphael's emerald green eyes open a bit
"Raph! How are feeling?"
"How's your head?"
The red masked turtle stared blankly at his older and younger brother as if not comprehending the questions he was being bombarded with and began to close his eyes
"Raph no! Stay awake!"
Donatello shook Raphael gently, and patted his cheek but the his brother still lost the battle to consciousness and went back to sleep.
"Donnie…?"
"Don't worry he's out of the danger of falling into a coma but he really needs his rest. C'mon Leo you should eat too. The two turtles walked into the kitchen to see Mikey filling three plates while spaghetti.
"Hungry?"
"Not really"
The three turtles ate their food quietly. Mikey decided to break the silence and speak up.
"So… Raph?"
"He just needs some rest and he'll be fine."
Leo dropped his fork and rested his head in his hands
"How could I be such an idiot?! What was I thinking? Raph could have been worse than hurt!"
"Leo, accidents happen. It's not like you intentionally hurt Raph."
"Yeah dude, freak accident you know?"
"Raph's GOING to better, he's GOING to forgive you, right Mikey?"
"Yeah, he'll probably wanna just get up and go back to the usual routine of kicking things and talking to Spike"
"Speaking of Spike I think he's giving you the evil eye Leo"
Leonardo turned his head to see his brother's pet giving him a harsh glare.
"C'mere Spike you should go back to Raph's room"
Leo reached for Spike only to have Spike snap his jaw at him.
"think he's mad at you Leo"
Leo sighed and looked back at the turtle
"Sorry little guy but I'm gonna beat you in a 'tough guy' contest"
Despite Spike's angry protests Leo picked up up by the shell out of biting range and carried him to the infirmary and set him down next to Raphael.
"Spike! Stop trying to bite me!"
Leo sighed and went to his room and shut off the light.
"whatever, I'll check on Raph tomorrow"
Leonardo drifted into a dreamless slumber
He woke up to shaking. It was gentle a hand on his shoulder and gently shaking him, then a little more force was put into it then whoever was shaking him grabbed his shoulders and gave him a violent shake
"GAH!"
Leo was staring into the wild blue eyes of Michelangelo.
"what Mikey!"
"Something's up with Raph! He's about to wake up!"
Mikey dashed out of the room and back to the infirmary
"C'mon buddy, wake up"
"Hmm? Donnie? Mikey?"
Leo walked closer to see Raph's opening in a confused gaze directed to his two younger brothers
"Yeah Raph, how do you feel?"
"I have a dull headache, but I'm ok…"
"ok, but take these anyway. Tell me if you need anything else ok?"
Donatello handed his brother two painkillers and left the lab to let his brother relax
Mikey pulled Raph into a hug a poked his plastron
"Get better soon ok? I still need to throw water balloons at you!
Raph gave Mikey a light noogie and layed back down
"great. Can't wait knucklehead"
Mikey bound out of the lab to go bother Donatello.
Raphael rested his eyes before taking a deep breath and calling out
"Ok Leo, you can come over here if you want"
Leonardo made his way over to Raph and sat down
"You ok?"
"mm-hmm"
"Look, I wanted to say sorry for-"
"Lemme stop you right there bro. It's alright it was an accident."
"But I-"
"I know bro, you're the older brother blah blah shouldn't be hurting younger brothers blah blah. I know how you feel, remember when we were kids?
Me and Mikey? I kinda…"
"Yeah. He never wanted to tickle you again as a kid"
"Look, mistakes happen. All that matters is that you apologize afterward"
"But you didn't let me apologize"
"That's because I'm giving you this instead"
"Giving me wha-?"
Before Leonardo could finish Raphael gave him a full force punch on the arm. Leo clutched his arm
"Jeez Raph!"
"Don't think that because I'm bed ridden I won't whoop your sorry shell! You're forgiven bro"
Leo chuckled and got up to leave as his brother drifted into a peaceful sleep. He waited until he was sure Raph was to out of it to hear him
"Love ya Raph"
He wrapped his arms around Raph and gave him a quick hug silently vowing he would always be there for Raph and the rest of his family
