Chapter 8: A Whole Poli Fishing
Me, my other partner in crime, Luke, and another figure look over the next chapters that are coming up I take a drink from a glass bottle.
Me: *Slurp* ... Ah! That's one good Snapple Apple Luke!
Luke: Well duh! It's the best drink ever!
?: So, are we gonna be in the later chapters still?
Me: Well of course Darek! You and Chelse make the series quite..."villiany".
Luke: Villiany?
Me: Like they make it more evil and what not.
Darek: Then why didn't you just say that?
Me: ... Don't judge me.
Luke: *Shakes his head* I hope you all enjoy this next chapter we published for you all. Also, please, give us your thoughts on the story, we would really appreciate it. I shall guarantee you shall have a good day/night and we'll see you all later on.
Darek: We'll see about that Luke... and if they don't, they're gonna blame you.
Luke: ... I'll have you now, that I'm-
Darek: Get on with it Disclaimer!
Disclaimer: (Thought: Don't have to yell...) *Ahem* KW does not own Pokemon, but if he did, he would perhaps change a majority of the recent seasons so far. However, he does own his OC characters.
A day has past since the mishap in Mt. Moon. Last night, Kidan, Cealy and Sora, along with a Poekmon named Clefairy, were in Mt. Moon trying to stop Team Rocket and their officers, Darek and Chelse, from stealing the Moon Stone and the other captured Clefairys. In the end, Kidan, Cealy and Sora were successful on stopping Team Rocket from completing their mission.
Now, after a night of celebrating with the Clefairy along with the newly evolved form Clefables and the sleep they needed, Kidan, Cealy and Sora make their way out of Mt. Moon through the caves with Clefairy and the Clefables guiding them out with the morning light shining through the exit, concluding that it was definitely morning.
'Well, here's the exit to the next route. I hope you all do well on your travels,' Clefairy said to them with the Clefables next to her.
"Thanks again for showing us the way out Clefairy. We really appreciate it," Kidan said to her.
'It was no problem. Just say that it's our way of thanking you again for saving all of us and our Moon Stone,' Clefairy assured him.
"Well, you and the other Clefairy and Clefable stay safe," Cealy said to them.
'We will, and take care of yourselves!' Clefairy said to them waving bye, along with the Clefable.
Kidan, Cealy and Sora all waved back to them as they exited the tunnel and started to make their way through Route 4 in order to get to Cerulean City and challenge the Cerulean City Gym Leader for their second badge.
"Man am I tired," Kidan yawned as he walked along the river bank with Cealy and Sora beside him.
"Yeah I know. Last night was long," Cealy agreed with him, yawning as well. With their lat night partying with the Clefairy and Clefable inside Mt. Moon, they were sure that they would all be tired afterwards.
"Well, we should be close to Cerulean City. Why don't we take a short break?" Sora suggested to them, liking the idea already.
"Okay!" Kidan and Cealy said at the same time.
They all stop their venturing in order to catch a break as they laid next to a grassy hill that led down to the river bank on Route 4. As they all relaxed and chatted for a bit when Cealy came up with an idea.
"Hey, since the river is right here, why don't we go fishing?" Cealy suggested.
"You know, that's not a bad idea. It's been so long since I went fishing," Kidan agreed to her.
"I like the idea... but where are we gonna get some fishing rods? There's no settlements for quite a while yet," Sora asked.
Just as Sora asked, Cealy pulled out three customized and extendable fishing rods from her bag. "Who needs some old fashion rods when you got Cealy's hand-made fishing rods to fish?" She giggled.
"Woah! When the heck did you make those?" Kidan asked in disbelief.
"A few weeks ago. I figured since me and you were gonna travel, I thought maybe a good relaxing fishing would be great. And just in case, I made an extra one in case we met with someone else, like Sora." Cealy giggled smiling.
"Well what do you know? You were already prepared for this, weren't you Cealy?" Sora said observing the fishing rods.
"Yep!" Cealy replied happily.
She handed both Kidan and Sora a fishing rod each as they pushed the button on the handle, extending the rod as a string was attacked ot it with a hook in the end.
"Wow! These look great Cealy! You really out did yourself this time." Kidan commented already liking the custom fishing rod.
"I-It was no big deal really." Cealy said trying to hide her blushing from his complement.
"Well, why are we just standign aroun then? Let's get fishing!" Sora said excited witht he two agreeing. "And you know, I've heard theres a whole lot of Water-type Pokemon that can be caught by the river banks. Maybe we'll be lucky to catch a really rare Water Pokemon."
Both Kidan and Cealy agreed to his idea and all of them extended their fishing rods out as they flung them forward, out to the river with the hooks hitting the water bobbing around on the surface of the river.
About an hour has passed since they took a break and all three of them were sitting on the grassy hill. Sadly, none of them got a nibble from their fishing rods so far. They had sent their Pokemon out to get some fresh air for the day as some of them played around with each other from behind as some others were relaxing. Bored and nothing to do, the three trainers tried to find something to do in the meantime.
Sora was already looking over the map and his PokeGear device searching around for information. Cealy looked a bit annoyed for not catching anything so far with her pole and was getting really bored. Spree was on top of her head resting as she helped block out the sun's rays from hitting Cealy, giving her a nice cool shade. Kidan, though, was already asleep with his body laying back on the grassy hill having his arms crossed behind his head with his bag giving him support as a pillow for his head, dozing off from boredom of fishing already with Char sleeping next to him on his right, all curled up and already asleep. As for the other Pokemon; Slice, Bulb, Grace, Squirtle, Eevee and Spearow were all playing tag by the trees that were behind Kidan, Cealy and Sora, all of them having a ton of fun with their little day off.
What seemed like an eternity, as Cealy was beginning to fall asleep from all the boredom, she noticed that her fishing rod started to tug a bit.
"Hm?" Cealy looked at her pol curiously. She waited for a moment before seeing it move again, but this time it was being tugged a few more times with more force. "H-hey guys! I think I got something!"
Sora, who stopped searching through his PokeGear device, and Kidan, who was woken up by Cealy's voice, start to get up and walked over to her. As they walked next to her, they saw her holding her fishing rod tightly as it began to get tugged on more and more, trying to pull her and her fishing rod into the river bank.
"Wonder what it is?" Sora questioned looking at the line that was attached to the hook and fishing rod.
"Don't just stand there, give me a hand!" She told them trying to hold onto the pole from being pulled in.
"Right!" Kidan replied as he and Sora both got a hold on the fishing rod, gripping it tightly as well.
"Okay ready?" Kidan asked them, both Cealy and Sora nodding. "Alright, one...two...THREE!"
With one strong pull from the fishing rod, the pole pulls out the hook and whatever it was that was caught with it. The figure flew out of the river bank and into the grassy hill beside them.
What emerged from the lake was a Fish-like Pokemon that had a body color of red. Resembling a normal fish, it, however, had a red colored scaled body and yellow antennas that appeared to be long mustaches. The Pokemon was known as Magikarp, flailing around on the ground hopeless to do anything. Cealy reaches for his PokeDex and scans the Pokemon.
"... So, Magikarp is the Fish-like Pokemon. In the distant past, it was somewhat stronger back then. Though, now it's virtually worthless of both power and speed. It's the most weakest and pathetic Pokemon in the world," Cealy read, feeling kinda sad for the poor Magikarp from the last part of the sentence.
"Magikarp karp! Magic karp!" The Magikarp spurted out, flailing around in the grass.
Kidan, Cealy and Sora both had a sweatdrop on their faces, watching awkwardly at the hopeless Magikarp that just kept on flailing around.
"Uhh..." Sora started to say. "What.. do we do?"
"I... have no idea really," Kidan replied with a clueless expression. "I mean, one of us can catch it, but I'm not sure if we should just try catching it now or just battle it to make it weaker. Though, it's up to you Cealy. You're the one who caught it with your fishing rod."
"I... don't know either," Cealy said who was also clueless like the other two. "I do want to catch it, for some reason, but I don't feel like battling it would be completely worthless."
"Well, we got three options; Either catch it, battle it or toss it back into the river bank with the rest," Sora pointed out to them.
They all pondered for a bit before Cealy came up with an idea. Cealy pulls out an empty Pokeball and positions herself in front of Magikarp.
"Go... Pokeball!" She shouted tossing the empty Pokeball at the flailing Magikarp. The Pokeball hits Magikarp and sucks it in. They all watch as the ball shook on the ground, but it soon stopped moving and made the sound that signaled that the capture was complete. Cealy walks up to it and picks it up as she looks at it. "Well... I caught a Magikarp."
"Why does it seem that the capture was really weird and almost pointless?" Kidan asked, not sure how to subscribe the little event that took place.
"I don't know, but I do have to agree. This is one of the most weirdest and perhaps quickest captures I have ever done, without battling either," Cealy replied agreeing to his question.
"Well, look at the bright side; you caught yourself a new Pokemon," Sora pointed out.
"Yeah... but is it even possible to train it since, like the PokeDex saids, it's the most worst and pathetic Pokemon in the world?" Cealy asked clueless.
Kidan and Sora both couldn't reply to her comment. She had a point. Like the PokeDex said, Magikarp are the most worst and pathetic Pokemon in the world to even have. The question then was; was it worth the effort to train?
"... Well it can't hurt to try, could it?" Kidan asked, giving some sympathy for the poor Pokemon.
"I... guess it couldn't hurt," Cealy replied though still pondering about the idea. After a moment or so, she stretches out her arm to the river with the Pokeball still in her hand. "Alright, come on out Magikarp!"
She pushes the activation button in the middle of the Pokeball as the Fish-like Pokemon, Magikarp, emerges from the Pokeball, landing in the river bank with a splash. It swam around a bit before swimming up to the edge.
"Magikarp! Magi Magikarp!" The Magikarp responded happily.
"Nice to see you too Magikarp," Cealy said getting on her knees in front of it smiling. "Sorry about pulling you out from the river bank like that."
"Karp karp, magic magikarp!" The Magikarp replied to her.
"What did he say to her?" Sora asked Kidan, the only on ethat doesn't undertand Pokemon language.
"He said to her that to not worry. He's happy to be on her team," Kidan translated for Sora.
"Yeah... 'team'," Sora said a bit awkardly, a bit confused about if Cealy was gonna even keep it with her or not. To him, it seemed pointless.
Cealy, who was giggling and relieved, didn't notice when Char, Bulb and Squirtle all came up to both of them to greet the new Pokemon to the team.
'Hi there! Nice to meet you,' Char responded cheerfully.
'Hello. Who are you guys?' Magikarp asked him.
'My name is Charmander, but you cna just call me Char. This is Bulbsaur, or as we call him, Bulb,' Char replied pointing over to Bulb.
'Hey there!' Bulb said happily.
'And this is Squirtle. But we all just call him by his regular name,' Char pointed out.
"Nice to meet you.' Squirtle smiled.
"They seem to be getting along fine," Cealy said to Kidan and Sora as she walked up to them smiling.
"They sure are. So are you gonna keep Magikarp in your team or are you gonna send him back to Professor Oak?" Kidan asked her.
"Hmm... I think I'll keep him in the team," Cealy smiled as she answered. "It may seem that Magikarp are worthless and pathetic, but they didn't say that it was impossible to train one. Besides, I think that with some training, I can make him the best Magikarp in the region. So I've decided that I'll train him."
"Are you really sure? Training a Magikarp is gonna be tough," Sora pointed out.
"Don't worry! I can handle it!" Cealy replied confidently.
"So, are you gonna give him a nickname?" Kidan asked smirking, alreayd knowing her answer.
"Hmm... I think I'll call him..." Cealy started to say as she looked over to Magikarp who was talking with all of their Pokemon now. "... Magic."
"Magic? That's an interesting name," Kidan commented with a smile. "It goes along with Magikarp's real name anyways."
"That's what I was thinking too. It fits his personality," Cealy replied with a small giggle.
"Well, now that that's all settled, you two ready for some more fishing?" Sora asked them.
"Yep," They both replied nodding.
It's been another two hours since Cealy caught Magic, or Magikarp, from the river and added him to her team. It seemed that everyone was already getting to know Magic more better. Squirtle seems to take Magic a liking, considering that Squirtle had another Water Pokemon friend to hang around with.
Back to the three trainers, who were once again fishing, were all doing the same thing that they were doing earlier. However, the only difference was that though they were all either sitting in boredom, napping or reading information, they all at least got a chance to fish and catch Magic. Cealy still sat in boredom once more with Spree on her head still but was trying to extract herself by watching her new Pokemon, Magic, who was swimming around in the river. Sora, again, was looking over the map and searching for information on his PokeGear device, preoccupied to notice Squirtle and Eevee playing in the shallow end of the river. Kidan was yet again taking a nap with his arms crossed behind his head resting on his bag with Char and now Slice both resting next to him on both sides with Char curled up and Slice just sitting up indian-style.
However, a few minutes past when Char sensed something. He picked his head up a little looking towards at Kidan's fishing rod at it began to move little by little. Alerted, Char gets up and shakes Kidan with hsi small arms. trying to wake him up.
"Hm? What's up Char?" Kidan said tiredly.
'It's your fishing rod! It's moving!' He cried out to him.
"...What?!" Kidan suddenly taking in the information as he stop right up and saw the fishing rod moving. "Guys, I think I got one!"
Cealy and Sora, who heard Kidan's voice and snapping them out from what they were doing, look over to him and see him holding on the fishing rod making sure it wouldn't get away. They both got up and rushed over to him as they took hold of the rod that was being tugged very hard.
"Alright, ready?" Kidan asked them both who nodded. "Ok! One... two...THREE!"
With one strong pull from the fishing rod, the pole pulls out the hook and whatever it was that was caught. The figure flew out of the river bank and into the grassy hill, just like Magic did. Except, however, it wasn't flopping around uncontrollably.
What emerged from the river this time was a Tadpole-like Pokemon. It was quite small, considering the strength it did on the pole just a bit ago, with a rounded blue body. It has a white with a black swirld strip on it's stomach, a tadpole-like tail and a weird nose that appeared to be its mouth. That Pokemon was known as Poliwag, quite friendly but with a bit of intensity, urging for a battle. Kidan pulls out his PokeDex and scans the Pokemon.
"... Hmm, so its a Poliwag, a Tadpole Pokemon. I guess the direction of the spiral on the belly differs by area and it's more adept at swimming rather than walking," Kidan read out loud as he puts the PokeDex away.
"Poli! Poliwag!" The Poliwag said hopping up and down cheerfully.
"Aww, it's so cute!" Cealy said excitedly as she stared at the Poliwag hopping.
"Man, your lucky Kidan," Sora said to him. "Poliwag are pretty rare to find by the river banks. It's only a ten percent chance that you get to see or battle one."
"Yeah, but I don't think it wants to battle though," Kidan pointed out.
Sora didn't fully understand til' Kidan pointed it out to him, watching the Poliwag get petted by Cealy who was all lovey-dove over it's so-called cuteness. "I see your point. Also, why is Cealy so excited about Poliwag? She wasn't crazy over Magic when she caught him earlier?"
"That's the thing about Cealy," Kidan started to explain. "You see, she's one for cute Water and Grass-type Pokemon that have cuteness or beauty in them, from her perspective. And it's not like she wasn't excited about catching Magic, it's just how she is."
"Man, you sure know alot about her," Sora said snickering a bit trying to state the obvious.
Kidan's cheeks suddenly turn red. "I-It's only because I knew her when we were four years old! I've just known her cause she was my only friend I played with back then! That's it!"
"Suuurrre it is," Sora replied with sarcasm, as if he believed his little excuse. It was too obvious, even to him.
"Oh just shut up," Kidan retorts as he pulls out a Pokeball. "Cealy, you might wanna stand back."
Cealy turns around to see Kidan holding an empty Pokeball. "Aww, but I wanted to catch it!"
"Sorry Cealy, but you already have Magic," Kidan replied smirking. "Besides, Poliwag was on MY fishing line, so I get to catch it."
She pouts and crossed her arms in fron tof her chest. "Fine. Just don't hurt it the little guy," She walks away from Poliwag and stands next to Kidan and Sora.
"Are you sure you don't wanna try and battle it though?" Sora asked.
"There's really no point. It maybe able to fight, but I have a feeling that it WANTS to be caught, though," Kidan replied staring at the cheerful wild Poliwag.
"What makes you say that?" Cealy asked him curiously.
The Poliwag stopped hopping for a moment and tilted a bit confused about what they were talking about.
"Well, for one, when it was pulled out of the water for about five minutes now, wouldn't it have tried to escape?" Kidan asked them as he pointed it out to them.
"I didn't think of that actually," Sora said as he thinks about it for a bit.
"And secondly, if it DID want to battle, it would have tried to use an attack on us rather than having Cealy pet it," Kidan said.
"Good point," Cealy agreed with him.
"So... if it doesn't want to battle, nor does it try to run away, then..." Sora started to realize.
"Then it must be wanting to come with us," Kidan concluded.
Kidan then walks up to Poliwag casually as the wild Poliwag looks at him curiously, wondering what he's gonna do.
"So Poliwag... wanna join our team?" Kidan simply asked it.
'Join... your team?' Poliwag asked a bit confused.
"Well yeah. For one, you seem like a strong Pokemon, just by looking at ya'. And secondly, you would be a great part of team since your a Water Pokemon. Plus... Cealy seems to like you already, so that's enough for me., Kidan explained to him. "So... what do you say?"
Poliwag stood there for a minute pondering before speaking, '...Sure! But on one condition.'
"Sure, what's that?" Kidan asked him.
'I wanna have a battle!I wanna see how tough you guys really are!' Poliwag said already boiling for a battle.
"Uh... sure," Kidan said a bit suprised by his request. The way he saw Poliwag looked like earlier, it seemed that Poliwag wasn't the one for battling, considering the way it was acted. "Alright Slice, you ready for this?"
Slice walks up and nods. 'You bet I am!'
"Good," Kidan said as he walked back towards Cealy and Sora as he took his position with Slice standing in front of him. "Slice, start things off with a Quick Attack!"
Taking a step backwards, Slice makes a swift dash as Poliwag dashing from left to right. Poliwag, already confused as to where Slice went, started to get a tad dizzy. At that moment, Slice comes in from behind.
"Now use Cut attack!" Kidan commanded.
Slice then raises his blade arm at Poliwag and swings it down at him, making a direct hit on him as he was sent flying back. Still in pain, Poliwag was able to stand up without trouble. But then, Poliwag opens his mouth and shoots a stream of bubbles at Slice, in which made contact, causing Slice to flinch.
"I think Poliwag used Bubble attack!" Sora observed.
"Quick, use Pursuit!" Kidan commanded.
Snapping out from the Bubble attack, Slice rushes at Poliwag with quick speed. But before he could hit him, Poliwag dodged to the side as Slice passes him. But before he could turn completely back around, Poliwag was already in the air and in fornt of Slice, slapping him multiple times over and over as he was yet again sent back as he struggled to get up.
"What kinda move was that?" Kidan asked.
"That was Poliwag's Double-Slap attack." Cealy replied. "It's a move that slaps the opponent repeatedly back and forth."
"Okay, that settles it. Now I have to catch Poliwag!" Kidan said with enthusiasm. "Slice, are you still okay to fight?"
Slice stands up and staggers a bit before getting balance. 'Yeah, just give the word.'
"Alright then, use Focus Energy followed by Quick Attack!" Kidan commanded.
Slice complies and takes a deep breath as he gains more focus. Then, at the last minute, he dashes at Poliwag once more moving form left to right like before. Poliwag, knowing what he was gonna do, shoots another stream of bubbles at him, hoping that it would him. But Slice just dodged them all, not a single one hitting him. Poliwag, who was staggering, didn't see that Slice appeared right in from of him.
"End this Slice! Use Pursuit and Cut attack!" Kidan commanded.
WIthout a moments haste, Slice slams himself on Poliwag, who was still staggering from the previous attack, and then raises his bale arm at him slicing him once again as Poliwag was sent flying backwards, staggering to his feet.
"Okay! Go... Pokeball!" Kidan shouted tossing the empty Pokeball at the staggering Poliwag.
The thrown ball hit Poliwag and sucked it in. They all waited breathlessly and watched as the Pokeball jiggled on the ground. There seemed a strong chance that Poliwag could break free. But after what seemed like an eternity, the ball finally stopped moving and made the noise that signaled that the capture was complete.
"Alright!" Kidan cheered as he went over and picked up the Pokeball. "I caught a Poliwag!"
'Yay, we did it!' Slice cheered with pride. It seemed that the battle with Poliwag was what he needed to get his confidence back somewhat.
"Way to go Kidan!" Cealy said excitedly.
"Now we got two Pokemon on our team," Sora pointed out.
"Yep," Kidan agreed. "Alright, come on out Poliwag!"
Poliwag emerges from the thrown Pokeball still exhausted from the battle. Kidan kneels down and pulls out a Potion from his pocket, spraying some on Poliwag. Even though Poliwag didn't like it due to the harsh sting that kicked in, it felt alot better afterwards.
"You doing okay Poliwag?" Kidan asked.
'Yeah,' Poliwag assured him, though still feeling the stinging effect. 'That was tough. Scyther is pretty strong.'
'Your pretty strong too.' Slice commented walking up to them both. 'And thanks to you, I finally got some of my my confidence back.'
"So your doing better than before, Slice?" Kidan asked hopefully.
'Yep. I;m back to my own self,' Slice said cheerfully.
"Good to hear pal," Kidan smiled. He turned his attention back to Poliwag. "So Poliwag, are you up for an adventure with us?"
'You bet!' Poliwag said jumping into his arms.
"Haha, that's good," Kidan laughed. "So all you need now is a nickname. Hmm... how about I call you... Swirl? Since you're stomach looks like its all curled up, Swirl really adds onto the detail. What do you think?"
'I...' Poliwag started to say. '... LOVE it!'
Poliwag then jumped down and hopped up an down cheerfully as Kidan and Slice laughed. Cealy and Sora walked up to them to greet him.
"Swirl, these are my friends, Cealy and Sora," Kidan introduced him to his friends.
"Hey there little guy, "Sora greeted smirking.
"Nice to meet ya'," Cealy giggled.
'It's nice to meet you all,' Poliwag said.
Kidan, Cealy and Sora's Pokemon then walked up to him as they all introduced themselves one by one. It seemed that Poliwag was already hitting it off, even made friends with both Squirtle and Magic, making him the third Water-type Pokemon in the group. Some hours has past and the sun was finally setting. The group was tired out from the day, but nonetheless, they had a great day fishing and relaxing.
"Well..." Sora started to say as he got up and stretched. "I think it's time to set up camp. We should be in Cerulean City before the afternoon tomorrow if we get up in time."
"Sounds good to me," Cealy agreed.
"I'll help set up camp. Cealy, think you can get some water?" Sora suggested.
"Can do," Cealy complied and walked down the river with Poliwag and Squirtle where Magic waited for them.
"I'll go get firewood while you get food started Sora," Kidan said standing up.
"Good idea. We don't need you burning our food anyways," Sora joked.
"Oh ha ha!" Kidan said sarcastically. "Come on Slice, Char. Let's get some firewood for the fire."
They both nodded as Kidan, Char and Slice all went to grab some firewood in the woods nearby.
From there, the group ate their dinner, chatted for some time and then headed for bed as night fell. For tomorrow, they would head out to Cerulean City, earn their badges and then head out for the next city. The journey for them was still just the beginning, with new twists and adventure.
