Hey this is a longer chapters guys but I tried to skim over the fight scenes because I didn't want to focus too much on it instead of the other stuff going on, so I hope you enjoy it!
''Where am I going?'' Logan asked from the backseat of the car she was lead to.
She had wanted to fight their orders, but running was out of the question. They seemed like they weren't afraid to use force and since her main priority right now was protecting her unborn son, Logan did as they said and made no sudden movements as they walked her out of the building.
''Someplace quiet,'' one of the man told her.
''Look, I know you're working for Hammer but he's at the Stark Expo, what does he want with me?''
They didn't answer her for a moment, glancing between one another as if they were considering telling her. Logan shifted in the seat nervously, watching them anxiously before the other man turned around to her.
''We know you and your husband got a call this afternoon from someone Hammer doesn't want found. Since you're a reporter, he didn't want word getting out. Let's just say we're on babysitting duty,''
Logan glared at the man.
''I'm a photojournalist,'' she corrected.
''Whatever lady, the deal is until the Expo's over you're under our watch,''
''And when the Expo's over?''
''We haven't got those instructions yet, I guess it depends what happens,''
Logan huffed in annoyance, hating that she was stuck in a car with these morons and couldn't even defend herself enough to try and escape. If she wasn't pregnant, she wouldn't be here to fight against them anyway. She would be alongside Tony at the Expo, helping him anyway she could or maybe she would in fact be leaking Hammer's secrets to the press with the help of Drew.
''In case you haven't noticed, I'm very pregnant right now. Do you realize that kidnapping me-''
''Don't be so dramatic, that's not what's going on,''
''How would you describe this situation?''
''We're keeping an eye on you. We're bodyguards for Hammer Industries and you present a threat, we're just doing our job,''
Logan folded her arms and leaned back in her seat, thinking about the whole situation and everything that could go wrong. However, as she thought about where she was right now, she couldn't help seeing the positives. If she was with Hammer's bodyguards who were meant to be keeping a close eye on her and didn't seem to want to hurt her at all, that meant that if Vanko had any intention of getting to her, he couldn't.
Hammer knew that Logan was aware that Ivan was alive and he was worried she was going to leak it to the press, ruining his night at the Expo. He was afraid, he was a coward and even though he was a total ass most of the time, Logan knew he wouldn't do anything to her. At least not while she was in this condition. Being with Hammer's bodyguards guaranteed her protection and maybe she could get some information from them and as much as she disliked the situation, she was going to make it work in her favor. Plus, even though they had taken her cell phone to stop her from contacting anyone, Tony had installed a tracking device long ago for any problems like this which meant that within a few hours, he would come find her.
''I'm hungry,'' she complained.
''There's food where we're going,''
''I'm hungry now,''
''Deal with it,''
''I could just start screaming and gain attention, but I'm really willing to be cooperative through this. I'm just asking for a burger, are you really going to make me cause a scene because you won't stop and get me a burger?''
Logan stared at them, wondering if she did happen to have some power over them. They were Hammer's guys after all, they weren't the smartest of employees. They looked between one another and shook their head in frustration before taking a turn toward a fast food outlet. Logan smirked, finally aware that they weren't hired to use force and be kidnappers. They were what they said they were, simply babysitters.
''I'll have two cheeseburgers,''
Tony's mind was in two places as he flew to New York, going speeds he hadn't gone in a long time. It had been days since he had been in the Iron Man suit, he felt more powerful than ever too with the new arc reactor in his chest. However he couldn't focus properly, he kept thinking of Vanko and the Expo and Justin Hammer and everything he was trying to fix as well as his pregnant wife he had just reunited with and then left in Malibu. After his ordeal with the palladium poisoning he didn't think they would have to come to another problem, at least not so quickly.
But now he was flying out of the Expo, smashing through the roof and leading Rhodey on an involuntary pursuit after finding out that his theory was in fact correct. Hammer had taken his Iron Man suit and reprogrammed it through a new system that Tony knew he couldn't have created. Ivan was behind it all. He had control of Rhodey's suit.
''That's not me, I'm not doing that!'' Rhodey called to him, worry in his voice.
Glass shattered around Tony as he finally made his way out of the Expo's roof. Then it wasn't just Rhodey following behind him in the suit, the whole of Hammer's 'Hammerdrone' army was behind him. Vanko had control of them all.
''Jarvis break in! I need to own him!'' Tony instructed.
''Tony, Tony it's locked!'' Rhodey's distressed voice came into his ear. ''Target's locked!''
''On what!''
''You!''
The place that Logan was taken to was nothing like she expected. She was waiting to pull up at a run down, dirty old house that no one would bother looking twice at, but she was unexpectedly surprised by the adequate house they pulled up to. After they had reluctantly gone through a drive-through and gotten her two cheeseburgers as she requested, Logan knew that this wasn't a totally hostile situation.
Hammer didn't want to hurt her or her unborn child, he just wanted her kept out of the picture for a while. Having Tony Stark coming after him for any harm coming to his wife wasn't something Hammer wanted at all. Logan was going to play along with the whole thing as well. It kept her safe, at least safer than she would be at their home or at Drew's.
''Come on,'' the man called out as he held her door open, the other looking around to make sure no one was prying.
Logan huffed and glared at the man.
''Don't rush me,'' she warned. ''You try getting out of car with a beach ball for a stomach,''
''Not my problem,''
''Please don't piss me off,'' Logan put her hands on her hips once she was standing. ''You really don't want to piss me off,''
It was just turning nightfall in Malibu and Logan looked around the house before walking inside, wondering if there would be anyone else would be joining them. The two men led her inside and closed the door, turning the lights on to reveal and fully furnished house stocked with everything anyone could want for a weekend away.
''This is where you take those you kidnap?''
''For the last time lady, we're not kidnapping you,'' the man rolled his eyes. ''Don't make this more difficult than it needs to be,''
Logan rested her hand comfortably on her stomach as she walked into the living room, looking around curiously. Although she was the one stuck here and taken by Hammer's guards, her mind was completely on Tony. Wherever he was, he would be in the middle of something dangerous once again. She felt sad when she thought of him being somewhere else, somewhere away from her. Although New York was three hours ahead of California, she felt like he was in another country.
The sooner this was all over, the sooner they could focus on what really mattered in their life.
''How long do I have to stay here?'' she asked.
The two men were already sitting in the kitchen with a deck of cards, clearly not interested in their orders, almost forgetting about it completely when they finally got here. Hammer's loyal employees at their best.
''Hey, you're here for as long as we're here, it's not exactly a vacation for any of us,''
''Right. And that translates to how many hours?'' Logan pushed.
''Just sit, stay quiet, wait it out,''
Logan nodded and walked into the living room, wandering around searching for anything she could do to pass the time. These guys weren't interested in anything to do with their orders or her, they didn't care about anything. Right now, she was safe and so was her son, but she couldn't ignore the feeling in her gut that was telling her to leave, that she needed to get out of this place, and her instinct hadn't failed her yet.
''You got your best friend back,''
Tony never thought he would have to rely on his new assistant to help him in an Iron Man situation, but it just so happened to be the case. However Natasha Romanoff wasn't exactly his assistant so much as a SHIELD shadow, as she had put it.
''Yes, thank you Agent Romanoff,'' he replied.
Natasha had managed to get Hammer to tell him where Vanko was, but he was gone from the facility before she could get there. But that didn't stop her from hacking into his system and taking back Rhodey's suit from his control, letting him fight alongside his friend freely. Happy had accompanied her there while Pepper assisted the Expo technicians in sorting out that drama.
So much had happened within the matter of ten minutes, it was hard to imagine that only a few hours ago he thought everything was back to normal. He should have known by now that when his life started to return to a healthy level of chaos it was all going to backfire within minutes.
''Well done with the new chestpiece. I'm reading significant improvement and your vitals all look promising,''
''Yes, for the moment I'm not dying,''
Then Pepper's voice came into the mix.
''What?''
''Uh,'' Tony stammered.
''You're dying? What? What's going on?''
''You know, it's all still a bit raw so-''
''Why wouldn't you tell me that?''
''I've had this conversation already today, can I explain it another day?''
''Are you really dying?'' Pepper asked worriedly.
Tony sighed, knowing that she was concerned for him. He and Pepper had been close for years, before Logan he was the closest and only person he had in his life. If he was dying she would have deserved to know, but the whole thing was a disaster and although he saw that now, there was nothing he could do about it.
''I'm fine now Pepper, I'll talk to you about it tomorrow,''
''Are you sure?''
''Let's talk when I'm not fighting off a Hammer-oid attack,''
''Hey, save it you two,'' Natasha snapped. ''You've got incoming Tony, looks like the fight's coming to you,''
Tony managed to wake up Rhodey who had briefly been knocked out from their impact into one of the parks on the Expo grounds. They were both trying to keep up with everything that was going on, watching as drones began to fly in around them. They went back to back as they looked around, taking a moment before fighting against them all.
Although they were in more advanced suits, Rhodey's was decked out with useless Hammer tech and Tony only had one big attack available. The laser. It had stopped them all, cutting the drones in half after many, many rounds of bullets had been wasted on one another.
''I'd lead with that next time,''
''It's a one time thing,'' Tony shrugged.
But even though the dozens of drones were destroyed, Tony knew it wasn't over since Vanko hadn't shown his face yet.
''You got another drone incoming,'' Natasha reminded, watching over the monitors back at Hammer's facility. ''This one's different, the repulsor signature is significantly higher,''
That was Vanko.
His electric whips were visible as he flew down in front of them, his suit bigger and bulkier than his and Rhodey's put together.
''It's good to be back,''
After an unsuccessful attempt to 'bust him with the ex wife', Rhodey had realized that Hammer's inventions really were a dud and that it was clear he wasn't going to be taking down the Russian man in the suit with any of those weapons. Tony tried to prepare a plan in his head, but Vanko wrapped the whips around his throat and threw him to the ground in seconds. His other whip flung Rhodey to the side, keeping out of the way so he could have a word with Tony.
''Tony, I'm aware you haven't become a father yet,'' he began. ''That's too bad. I was wondering if you were going to meet your child before I ripped you from their life, but I suppose you'll never get to see them,''
Tony glared at the man, pulling himself up and dodging the electrifying whip. Rhodey was up again now, blasting a repulsor toward the man and discovering that it did nothing. Vanko turned to Rhodey and smirked, closing the metal face guard and preparing to really fight.
He threw both of the men around the surrounding grounds multiple times, firings shots at them as if this wasn't a struggle for him at all. Tony and Rhodey shot back all their ammunition at him, but it was useless. Vanko's suit was extremely durable, but Tony knew something that he wasn't going to be able to stand. As he and Rhodey stood across from one another, their necks covered by the whips in Vanko's hand, Tony called out to him.
''Rhodes, I've got an idea. You want to be a hero? Raise your hand,''
''What?''
''Raise it!''
''This is your idea?!''
Rhodey and Tony's hands pulled up to point at one another as they demonstrated the same move they did the night of their fight. The repulsors blasted from their palms, firing into one another and exploding.
Vanko went flying to the ground, his suit shutting down as his face place fell off, revealing his bloody and exhausted face.
''You lose,'' he whispered to Tony, a satisfied smile on his face.
Then, his suit as well as the drones around them began beeping. Red lights flickering from their chests repeatedly.
''They're rigged to explode,'' Rhodey concluded.
''Pepper,'' Tony remembered, flying off into the sky.
Pepper was still at the Expo's stage and if the flight trail was right, destroyed drones would be lying around right beside her ready to explode any second. He wasn't going to let anything happen to her.
Logan had no idea how she had managed to swipe the car keys from the guards who were still in the middle on an intense car game in the kitchen. The keys were by the bench, sitting right beside her cell phone that she was sure she could have came and swiped minutes ago considering how uninterested the men were. Sliding the keys into her pocket, Logan walked away from the bench as if nothing happened.
''Can I go lay down in the other room? I'm exhausted,'' she spoke.
''Sure,'' the man nodded, his eyes not bothering to leave the card he was playing.
It was all too easy after that. Logan figured since Hammer hadn't gotten in contact with his guards, something was stopping him, which meant his attention was no longer on keeping her out of all this. Whatever Tony was doing at the Expo, it had clearly exposed him anyway.
Climbing out the window of the bedroom was beyond difficult in her condition, but Logan managed it silently, watching the house for a few seconds before walking over to the car. Those two men were the worst guards she had ever met, but she had never been so thankful for lazy employees.
When she started the car, she didn't wait long enough to see if the men would come rushing out of the house before she took off out the driveway and screeched the tires as she drove off down the road. Everything in her body was telling her to get out of that place no matter how safe it had seemed, and now all she wanted was to hear Tony's voice.
Calling him as she drove, Logan counted all of the seven seconds it took for Tony to answer, relief flooding her when she heard his voice.
''Logan, where are you?''
''I'm on my way home, I had a run in with Hammer's useless guards,''
''What? Are you okay?''
''I'm fine, like I said they were Hammer's guards, totally useless,'' she shrugged. ''I want to know if you're okay,''
''Wait so they took you?'' he asked angrily.
''I went willingly, although still against my will if that makes sense. They weren't going to hurt me and I was safe from Vanko, I saw it as an opportunity,''
Logan felt something on her leg, her eyebrows creasing in concern, but she was soon pulled back by Tony's voice again.
''Oh my god,'' Tony sighed. ''But you're okay?''
''I'm totally fine Tony, so will you please tell me you're okay?''
''I'm fine, nothing happened...nothing really. I'll explain it when I get back, I just had to leave Pepper on a rooftop with Rhodey,''
''What?'' Logan gasped. ''You left her on a roof? Why would you do that?''
''I want to get back to you,'' he admit. ''Vanko's dead, but he said some things...I just want to get back to you,''
Logan's heart ached at his voice.
''I'll be waiting for you, just be safe and know that I'm okay, we're both oka-''
Logan broke off, her mouth hanging open as she slammed on the breaks of the car. Tony could hear the tires lock, the entire car making a thudding noise as she stopped in the middle of the road.
''Logan?'' he asked.
She could hear his voice, but her head fell down to rest on the steering wheel, struggling to find her voice as she processed the pain soaring through her body.
''Logan!'' Tony shouted. ''Logan, talk to me!''
''Oh god,'' Logan breathed loudly, her head now resting on the back of her seat. ''Tony...something's wrong,''
''What do you mean?'' Tony worried, picking up his pace on his suit.
He was approximately two hours away, but he was sure he could get there faster if he instructed Jarvis to use everything they had.
''Ahhhh!'' Logan shouted, her fingers digging into the steering wheel as her teeth bit down on her lip. ''Oh no, no, no, not now, not here!''
''Baby, what's going on, talk me through it,'' Tony called back, forcing the suit to use any power it had to get him back to her as fast as it could.
''It's happening,'' she groaned, breathing in pieces, trying to calm herself down while dealing with the pain.
''What's happening?''
''The baby...the baby is happening,''
