Chapter Five: The Man From Honolulu

Michael Fujyra had been fourteen when the Japanese had bombed Pearl Harbor. Injuries from the attack had cost the Hawaiian/Japanese boy his right hand and most of the hearing in his right ear, but he had refused to let that stop him from living the life he wanted. At the age of twenty-three he had joined the American Red Cross and come to Korea. Now he was looking for a fellow Red Cross worker who had gone missing when they had to evacuate a refugee center West of Soel. Her name was Anna Larsen and she had been a good friend to Micheal. She had never looked at him in a condescending way like some others did when they realized his right hand was a prosthetic. She was also of the same faith as he was, which meant that they had shared the sacrament and scripture study at every opportunity.
He stepped out of the jeep he had just parked by what had to be the CO's office of The 4077th Mash unit. He had checked with every unit he could find between here and where they had set up the new refuge center. it had been more than 2 weeks since Anna had disappeared and most people were telling him that she was most likely dead. in spite of that he had to keep trying because his conscience would not let him rest until he had either found her or conclusive proof that she had in fact perished.
He stepped into the office of the company clerk and said in a weary voice. "I'm looking for a Red Cross nurse that dispersed during a bug out from the Refuge Center West of Soel." he reached into his pocket and pulled out a snap shot of his friends from the refuge center. "She is in the front row of this picture second from the left."
Klinger looked at the photo and smiled as he recognized the face of their guest. "She was brought here two days ago and is currently in our V.I.P. tent..."
The look on Micheal's face changed to one of relief. "You really have Anna here? I had almost given up hope..."
"Ah good to know she has a name." Klinger said with a beaming grin.
Micheal's face changed back to one of worry. "Didn't she tell you her name?"
Klinger stood up to steady the man before he could fall down. "Physically She will recover but right now she can't remember her name." Klinger helped Micheal to sit in the chair he had just vacated. "Maybe you can help her remember?"
Micheal was almost ready to cry with relief. "I will do anything to help Anna."
Klinger was afraid that this guy was going to pass out. "That's good but I think we need to have one of our doctors take a look at you first."

Hawkeye took a good look at the Red Cross man who was now sitting on Klinger's bed and wrote down some instructions on a clip board. "You have a wonderful case of exhaustion and dehydration plus I would not be surprised if we found your blood sugar so low that you should be in a coma." He handed the clipboard to Nurse Kellye. "Give him a cot a banana bag a tray of food from the mess tent and if he won't sleep after that I I have an appropriate sedative in his chart."
Kellye took the clipboard with her usual smile. "I will get right on it Doctor."
Micheal spoke up "I can't sleep until I have seen Anna."
Hawkeye looked at him, "You'll be no help to her until you have taken care of yourself."
Just then Klinger walked back into his office with Anna and Father Mulcahy. Micheal nearly knocked Hawkeye down as he jumped up to take Anna in a hug.
At first she tried to resist but then something about this man felt familiar. "Brother Mike?1" She whispered as the name came to her.
"Yes Sister Anna" he said gently as tears came to his eyes., "I have been looking all over for you."
"I believe you." Anna said as she returned the hug, "I could not remember my name but I remember you."
Mulcahy smiled at what he saw. "Are you also a Later Day Saint?"
"Yes I am Father." Micheal said as he noticed the cross and collar that the Chaplin wore.
"This is good because if you are an Elder then we have enough for a blessing."
"Yes I am an Elder." Michael said as he finally let go of Anna."
"The blessing will have to wait until Mr. Fujyra has had some food and a nap." Hawkeye said firmly.
Anna looked at Micheal, "You had better do as the doctor said Brother Mike."
Mike shook his head with resignation. "Now that I know you are safe I can rest."
