I apologise for the lateness of this. I have been fighting a virus that knocked me to my knees the last few weeks. I really struggled to get into my rhythm.
For Sam.
Gail was tired and hungry but knew there was no chance of going home anytime soon. There had been a series of murders across the city in the past week. Random murders with no M.O. but everyone's belief was that it was the same guy doing all.
It had started with a hanging, everyone believed it was a simple suicide until Holly had done her thing. She had been suspicious from the start but Sam being the ass he was these days hadn't believed her. Not until Holly had performed the autopsy and found the tiny needle mark.
Before they could blink they had gotten another hanging, two this time, in a park hanging from trees, obvious defensive wounds and their wrists bound behind them. That was the point when everyone knew something was very wrong.
All the victims had been fit athletic women in their early to mid twenties. That was the only similarity. Hair colour, eye colour, race, height. They were all different.
Just when they assumed the murderer was attacking women the bastard had changed. A man was found, executed with a bullet to the back of the head. The only similarities was the age bracket, he was fit and healthy and he had his hands tied the same as the second and third victim. They had to start all over again.
The next two victims had been men also. One found just over the border with 27th district, the other on the border with 10th. One bludgeoned to death, the other stabbed multiple times. Fit young men with hands tied behind their back. Holly and her team were racing to keep up.
Gail, Andy, Nick and Chloe had been informed by Oli that they were to work as part of the task force. Their job was to study the lives of the victims and try and find any link. They had ascertained the only link so far was the two women found together hanging were regular jogging partners. Which was hardly a surprise as they had been found in their jogging gear in the park.
By talking to friends and relatives they found they all had different jobs, in different parts of the city, one even came from Vancouver. No connection. They all went to different schools and had different backgrounds. They checked everything from bank accounts to telephone records.
Gail had done so much staring at papers with numbers and all sorts of other brain draining work that she had a massive headache and her eyes were stinging.
"Ok that does it, break time" she told the others. "I'm starving and I need some good coffee before doing more"
"I'll call Mario for the coffee if you call Maria for the pizza" Andy sighed as she stretched her back and reached for her phone. She would call Hayley too and tell her it was going to be another late night. The woman had been a trooper recently.
They all put in their orders for Andy to call through. Andy got up and moved away to a quieter corner to make the call.
"I'm so hungry I think I can handle dealing with crazed Italians" Gail grizzled as she stood to stretch and pick up her phone. She cursed when she realised she missed a call from Holly. A following text advised that Holly would be several more hours yet. Gail sent a message back saying she would come collect Holly at the end of the shift.
Next she called the Italian restaurant and asked for Maria.
"Hello?" Maria spoke into the phone
"Maria it's Gail, the cop!"
"Si si. Holly's Gail" Maria exclaimed
"That's me. Listen we are stuck at work, even Holly. We need food. Can you help?" Gail asked "Andy is calling Mario for coffees"
"You leave it to me officer. How many am I feeding?"
"Maybe about two dozen? Most here but there is half a dozen or so at the Morgue" Gail winced at what she was asking. That was a lot to ask.
"Easy Gail. I will ensure no tomato on most of the food. Will mark clearly" Gail grinned at that. The woman was good at remembering things and providing food with no tomato, Especially Italian food, was no easy task.
"Thanks Maria, you're a life saver."
"You take care officer, you and Holly and friends"
"You too. Bye"
"Ciao"
Gail hung up and told the others that food would be coming soon. Noticing as she did so that Andy was standing off in the corner talking into her phone, a tender smile on her face. Hayley. Gail was happy for her friend, and Holly's cousin. It was plain for all to see that they were in love. Gail teased Holly all the time that Andy and Hayley would be following them down the aisles soon. Would probably beat them to having kids too. Holly only laughed.
Gail returned to her seat after a stretch and sighing put her feet up to relax, picking up papers she kept combing through them in a vain hope that she would come up with something. Andy hung up and came to sit beside her again, kicking her own feet up
"God Hayley is a God send. No complaints about my long hours and spoils me rotten when I get home"
"Whoa, no details on the sex life there" Nick muttered. Causing some of the other male officers sitting close and working on the case to chuckle. Gail merely flipped him off
"You're just upset that two of your ex girlfriends are gay after dating you" Andy shot back then high fived with Gail.
"No offence ladies but if we are going to start slinging mud I'll start comparing you two to Mel. You won't come out smelling so rosy" he countered.
"Ha well at least I don't eat bird seed" Gail joined in
"Bitch fight" someone muttered and they all laughed. Gail's stomach growled and she groaned. She was starving already. She wished she had thought of ordering food sooner.
"Come on, lets keep working. I wanna get out of here sometime tonight" she grumbled picking up the next sheet of paper. If they didnt get a break soon brass was going to be breathing down their necks and she didn't want another run in with her parents. She hadn't heard from them again since her accident. Thank god.
She got so engrossed with her paperwork she didn't see Mario come in until he called out "Special delivery for Andy" making everyone jump.
"Oh thank fuck" Gail muttered as everyone shot to their feet and just about mobbed the poor guy and his assistant who was carrying another tray.
"I have regular flat whites and black coffees. Rafe has the cappuccino and lattes etc" Mario informed them as the huddled around selecting what they had ordered. They were all well known to Mario now, he did the best coffees this side of the border. He had to hire extra staff as word seemed to spread. He was a favourite with the local emergency services and those at the morgue. Which reminded him.
"I have sent some coffees down to Holly and her staff" he informed Gail "Maria called to say you needed coffee here and there. Big case?"
"Yeah not good" was all Gail would reply as Traci and Sam walked in with some other detectives from 15 and 27 that were helping out.
"Damn. We too late? I'm dying for a cup" Traci called as she hurried over
"I did make some extra flat whites and long blacks in case there were stragglers" Mario beamed at his foresight. The detectives all selected a cup and Mario and his assistant waved off their offers of payment and hastened away while everyone found a seat to kick back in to enjoy their coffees. Gail noticed that Andy sat close to her and ignored Sam as best she could. She frowned, she would have to ask what that was all about later.
"I called Maria, food should be here soon" Gail informed Traci who paused in her sip and groaned
"The one from the Italian restaurant that cooked that feast that time?" She asked, mouth starting to water and flushing when her stomach rumbled.
"The very same. I can't wait" Gail groaned and checked her watch. It had barely been a half hour. If they were lucky they'd be finishing up cooking some of it now.
"What are you talking about?" One of the detectives from 27 asked
"Dino's over on Grand Ave. Maria is the Matriarch and head chef. Great Italian food from wood pizzas to the best Pasta you will ever have. You ever need a big feed you call her." Traci informed and he nodded
"God I love Italian" another chimed in
"They always prepare a big meal. Can we possibly get some?" Another asked and Gail shrugged
"I told her she was feeding two dozen including those at the Morge. She will send out food for nearly twice that. Most the station will get a feed"
Gail was right. It took another 45 minutes and a large brainstorming between them. They were all stumped, it couldn't have been more random if the guy had simply just picked names out of a hat. An opportunist serial killer which made things 100 times worse.
That's when they heard the rumbling of a trolley and turned to the hall leading to the operations room. The rookie from the front desk opened the door and they stared in amazement as a large trolley laden with food was pushed through and Gail recognised the guy who had delivered to Hayley's that time. He had his sidekick with him who had another trolley.
"Holly cow I said 2 dozen not ten dozen" Gail jumped to her feet "And I said some was for the morge"
"You know mama, and we have another van delivering to the morge" he informed "what you can't eat freeze, it will keep. Most of the stuff has no tomatoes but what has tomato or anything tomato based is clearly marked"
"Awesome" Gail breathed as everyone started working on clearing a table. Gail called through to Oli who she knew was working his ass off in his office keeping the brass off their tails and Traci said she would call Steve in guns and gangs who were busy with their own case.
"So for starters you got garlic bread, Turkish bread and some dips, stuffed mushrooms, bruschetta, garlic prawns and some squid oh and minestrone and pumpkin and crab soup" he laid it all out on the table as everyone watched in shock and delight. Gail noticed the rookie returning with a large box he was carrying "Thankyou officer. Mama sent some throw away plates, bowls, cups and cutlery to make it easier too"
"She's a godsend" Gail muttered "rookie grab yourself a plate then get back to your desk" she told him and she was pretty sure she made his day by the smile that lit his face. They had to take time to clear more tables as they had an abundance of food. Oli, Steve and some of Guns and Gang and a few lucky stragglers walked in as they were laying out the final food
"Ok we have several sorts of different pizza, we got spaghetti meatballs, lasagne, carbonara, chicken and veil parmigiana and schnitzel. We got steak and a selection of Diane, mushroom and garlic sauces to put on, Tortellini in creamy mushroom sauce, and spaghetti marinara. Sides of salads, fries, mash and vegetables. For desert mama sent a selection of her baked pies"
"Holy crap" Gail heard someone mutter and had to laugh. The woman was amazing. Finally a selection of soft drinks were pulled out and placed on the table just as two brass walked passed, froze then turned to enter the room.
"Staff Sergeant Shaw what's going on here?" One asked and Gail rolled her eyes. Were all brass assholes like her mother?
"Just a well earned break and a meal from a very good restaurant" Oliver advised in his best suck ass voice "the troops deserve it"
"Indeed" the other one raised a comical eyebrow "and who is paying for all this?"
"We are" Gail stepped in and pulled out her wallet despite the protests "don't worry sir it's not coming out of the budget" she pulled out a $50, all she had and with a stern look handed it over. Everyone else pulled out their wallets and did the same, whatever they had. It wouldn't come close to covering but it was better than nothing. She was aware of the two inspectors looking at the food and offered an Olive branch (yeah she was going soft, blame Holly) "There's plenty there, if you got some cash then you can have a feed"
It was almost comical the speed in which they grabbed their wallets and handed over money each. Gail thanked the men quietly and told them to tell Maria no more freebies as the men left and she joined the cue for something to eat. Most headed for the entree initially but that so wasn't her. Grabbing a piece of garlic bread she headed straight for the pizza, loading her plate with BBQ chicken and meat lovers, a handful of fries, a scoop of salad to be good and a cup full of coke zero and she headed back to her desk. This was going to be heaven.
Holly was running a bunch of tests while sipping on the coffee that had been delivered a short while ago. Ok a long while ago as she screwed up her nose at the realisation it had gone cold. Still it was better than the sludge from the vending machine down the hall. Whoever had rung and ordered it for them was a life saver, her assistants and intern had stopped grumbling in the last half hour.
There was a knock on the door and she looked up to see her assistant standing there
"Um Dr Stewart there is a guy here delivering food for you" he informed and Holly scowled. she hadn't ordered any food. Gail she thought suddenly and had to smile as she whipped off her gloves and washed her hands and followed her intern down to the staff lounge and paused in shock.
It only took her a few seconds to recognise the food that was being put on the table. Maria you delight. Gail earned herself some loving for calling the woman. She looked at her fellow colleagues who were drooling. She laughed and told them to go for it before quietly talking to the delivery man. She wouldn't let him go until he promised to tell Maria to send her a bill.
She was starving and quickly grabbed a plate. Some bruschetta, Caesar salad, lasagne and carbonara. She placed the plate on the coffee table and went back for a can of soda and a slice of cheese pizza. God that was good, as she plonked herself down on the couch and pulled out her phone to thank her fiancé.
Gail was bone tired but she promised Andy she would wait. The woman was jittery after all the specific attention Sam had been giving her the last few hours. It was 11pm and she had been at work since 7am. She wanted a bath, then bed and a good 6 hours sleep before she did it all again.
She looked at her phone that beeped and she saw a message from Holly who stated she was just about finished and would wait in the lobby until she messaged her to tell her she was outside. She typed back she would be there soon then looked up as she heard hurried footsteps coming towards her.
She smiled at Andy, glad they were friends again, more than that, they were family. They were dating cousins and Gail had no doubt that Hayley and Andy would get married one day and they would be...cousins in law? Was that the term?
It wasn't until then that she realised Andy wasn't smiling back. In fact she looked half panicked and half mad. When Sam came barrelling out behind her she knew why. Shit would the man ever give up.
"Andy!"
"Fuck off Sam, my patience is worn thin"
"Dammit I just wanted to tell you something"
"No." Andy must have seen her there and it was enough to have her gain courage to turn and face Sam "you have been harassing me for months" Andy shouted and Gail's teeth grit together, what? She thought Hayley had warned him off "you still call, you pester me at work, you leave notes in my locker and despite Hayley warning you you haven't stopped, you even went to my apartment and have been annoying my neighbours at all times of the night"
Jesus. Gail scowled, Sam was loosing his mind. The Sam she had known before the shooting was never this asshole.
"I want you out of my life. Leave me alone. Get a transfer Sam, before I report you. I'm at my wits end" she cried "and get some rehab too"
"For fucks sake I was just going to tell you to tell everyone to not come in until 9" Sam shouted back
"That's enough both of you" everyone jumped at the sound of Oliver's voice and turned to see him standing there with the two inspectors. Oh shit.
"Swarek my office. I have a feeling the inspectors want to talk to you" the men beside him nodded, their faces stony masks. "McNally, Peck go home but I want you in my office tomorrow 9am sharp"
"Yes sir" McNally replied but Gail hadn't taken her eyes off of Sam who was rooted to the spot, the look on his face was so blank it scared her. She knew he was about to do something and started to warn Andy just as a look of pure hatred crossed Sam's face.
Andy had let her guard down, feeling safe with Oliver and the Inspectors around, so the fist that connected her face came as a shock and spun her around as she staggered. Her ears started to ring the same time as pain bloomed on the left hand side of her face. She couldn't hear, couldn't see and slammed face first into the wall creating more pain as her knees gave way and she slumped to the floor. Her hands came up to cup her jaw and hold it, fuck if that wasn't broken she'd go straight again. She was able to blink her eyes open and all she saw was blood red. Then she could feel it covering her hands. She was vaguely aware of someone kneeling beside her and could hear Gail's voice but couldn't understand a word she was saying. Things started to swim in front of her and everything went black.
Gail saw the punch coming and called out a warning as she dropped her bag and hurried forward. She froze in disbelief as a loud crack split the air when Sam connected with Andy's face. Something had definitely broken then as Andy's head was thrown back with the force and she spun straight into the wall, which was followed by another crack. Gail went to move forward to grab Sam who looked like he was going to continue the attack, when there was a blur that shot past her and she watched in disbelief as one pissed off Gerald ran at Sam and rugby tackled him to the ground. When Sam went to get up Gerald cracked him once hard to the face them rolled him over and cuffed him in seconds.
"Fuck Gerald, never knew you had it in you" she told him watching Oliver and others come running as the Inspectors looked on. Gail raced to where Andy was kneeling near the wall and knelt next to her, shocked to see blood pouring from her mouth and nose. Chloe came running up then with Nick as Andy uttered a groan and slumped unconscious against her.
"Shit, Andy?" Gail shook her gently but there was no response.
"I'll call Mel. She is working tonight" Nick hurriedly pulled out his phone hoping his girlfriend wasn't on another job.
"Chloe come here and support Andy" Gail told the woman who slid in close "I gotta call Holly, she will need to call Hayley and go get the family together" she gently slid her hands out from under Andy as Chloe slid in, holding Andy's head so the blood could drain out of her mouth.
Gail stood up and looked over at Sam who seemed to be slightly psychotic and she wasn't sure how she missed it before but he was definitely showing signs of drug abuse. The bloodshot eyes, the sweating and shaking, the pale skin, the weight loss and gaunt face. She hadn't noticed because she hadn't really looked before, hadn't wanted anything to do with him. Jesus.
"You drug fucked piece of shit. You better immigrate fuck wit cause when Hayley finds out you are so dead. You need to know I won't try and stop her. Holly, her family even I just might help"
"Peck" Oliver warned and Gail shot him and the listening Inspectors a glare, she didn't care they were listening. She wasn't an officer now. She was one pissed off friend and relative.
"Shut it Oli. I'm off duty and I don't give a fuck. I now have to tell Holly and Hayley what he's done. You better make sure he doesn't come back to 15 and you better damn make sure there is a restraining order" she informed as she heard Nick say Mel was on the way and saw Gerald and a couple of other officers dragging Sam off to booking. She turned and headed into the changing rooms to clean up and make the call.
She washed her shaking hands and took deep breaths trying to get them under control as she activated the speed dial on her phone, waiting impatiently for her lover to pick it up.
"Hey, you out the front?"
"Holly I need you to listen carefully, you need to contact the family, get someone to go pick up Hayley" she said
"Oh my God what's happened?" Gail could hear the panic in her girlfriends voice
"Sweetheart please, call one of your brothers and tell them to go pick up Hayley. Then call your mother to rally the troops. University Hospital. Sam is high on drugs and hit Andy, she did a second face plant into the wall" she paused when Holly cried out in shock "Nick has Mel coming, as soon as she is in the ambulance I will come and get you. Don't leave without me, we still got that nutter running around"
"Ok baby, I will call them right away"
"Alright, I will be there as soon as I can" Gail promised "love you"
"Love you too, go keep Andy safe"
"Ha ha, Gerald did that, remind me to tell you" Gail chuckled
"Duncan? The useless rookie?"
"Babe I swear we owe him. Tackled Sam like an angry bull and when he tried to get away hit him like a professional boxer and had him cuffed in seconds. God knows where this has been all year"
"We do owe him then. I'll make those calls, get back to Andy"
They swapped goodbyes and hung up. Gail rested her head against her phone for a brief second and then with a deep breath headed outside to find Traci and her brother there helping to care for Andy who had come around.
Gail hurried over and knelt in front of her friend who was quite distressed and holding her jaw.
"Andy listen. Holly is going to contact the family. Someone's going to get Hayley and bring her to the hospital" she took Andy's free hand and gave it a gentle squeeze "squeeze my hand if you understand" she informed and had her hand squeezed tight. "Good girl" she grinned "you owe Gerald McNally, kid was awesome, stopped Sam in his tracks, got in a nice hit and had him handcuffed before anyone could move"
"F. with me" Andy whispered then groaned
"Hey no talking, but I'm serious as hell." Gail told her with a reassuring grin.
"Ok guys out the way" came a familiar voice behind them and Gail looked up to see Mel coming towards them with a purposeful stride. People moved back to let Mel in who winced when she saw Andy all bloody and bruised.
"Jesus all this with one punch?" Mel asked Nick
"He is high"
"She face planted into the wall too, think that did the nose" Gail offered hovering anxiously nearby. Mel sighed and looked down at Andy. It was quite clear her nose was broken but what worried her was her jaw, that was clearly at the wrong angle, possibly dislocated and her eye socket looked wrong too.
Gail stood back and watched Mel do her thing, she was gentle but confidant and did what had to be done. Andy was given something for the pain and her head was wrapped to keep her jaw immobile. Within ten minutes Andy was on a stretcher and being wheeled out of the Station while Gail snapped at gawkers that it wasn't a show and to get back to work.
Gerald came back from booking with the news they'd found some illicit drugs in Sams wallet and he volunteered to stand by the scene until forensics and internals could get there. Gail actually trusted him to do a proper job. She had told him thank you from the family.
"About time I earned my worth" he shrugged "and a man hitting a woman pisses me off". Gail nodded respectfully at that. Kid had a long way to go but tonight he had stood up for once.
Gail followed Andy, Mel and her partner to the ambulance and told Andy she was going to get Holly and would be right there. She gave Mel a stern look "Don't leave her side until either Hayley or I get there"
"I wont" Mel nodded then climbed into the ambulance and it took off with lights and sirens.
Gail spun and came face to face with the others who were watching with worried looks on their faces. "I'm going to go get Holly and head to the hospital."
"Internals will want to talk to you" Steve told her with a sigh "they will want to talk to all of us, not just for tonight but the build up."
"They can fucking wait. Family first" she told him and he nodded tightly
"I'll do my best to hold them off" he Informed and Gail gave him a hug before sharing one with the others, including the princess.
"I'll update you as soon as I can" she informed them all and hurried off towards where her car was parked. She kept a vigilant eye out for anyone nearby, as she realised their serial killer could strike anyone at any time, and she didn't feel somewhat safe until she was in her car with the doors once again locked.
Her drive to the Morgue passed in a mere blur and she parked right outside the front doors. Holly must have seen her and hurried out and quickly slid into the passenger seat. Once the doors were locked again they shared an awkward hug across the centre console.
"How is she?" Holly asked as she pulled back
"Well I'm no doctor but her nose is quite obviously broken and it appears her jaw is too" Gail sighed as she put the at in drive and started heading towards the hospital. "How did you go contacting the family?"
"I got a hold of Jacob and he is heading around to get Hayley. He is ready to commit murder. I got a hold of April and Mum too and they were going to ring around the rest."
"Good. There is going to be a lot of pissed off people" Gail sighed
"You said Duncan took Sam out?" Holly asked still surprised and wanting to keep Gail talking to distract them both. She listened as Gail recounted what Gerald had done and was amazed that this was the same rookie that everyone moaned about all year.
With a bit more back and forth questions they made it to the hospital and Gail parked under a light and as close as she could to the front door. They hurried into ER holding hands and Holly noticed it was the same nurse that had worked the night of the accident.
"Dr Stewart" the nurse looked between them worried
"Andy McNally, just brought in by ambulance"
"Oh yes, broken nose and jaw?" The nurse asked and Holly nodded
"Is anyone in with her?"
"Only the paramedic who I believe is a friend. I have orders to send either Gail or Hayley back" the nurse looked at her notes
"I'm Gail" Gail spoke up quietly
"Oh yes I remember. The two cops who had an accident. You sang a lot" the nurse smiled and Gail blushed. Holly tried not to show her amusement. Gail was going soft. She would normally growl or snap back
"Yes well I'm going to go back. You'll know Hayley when she comes in. Just send her on back"
"I'll stay and look out for her" Holly informed, "be the go between. Go and see how she is doing" Holly nodded back towards ER.
Gail was unsure but Holly gave her a reassuring smile as the nurse came around the desk to usher her out the back. Gail stepped forward and gave Holly a hug which the brunette returned with interest. "Go" Holly told her and with a quick kiss Gail hurried after the nurse.
Once in the ER she found Mel quickly and hurried over to her, looking over at a nurse and Doctor who were standing around the bed doing god knows what.
"Hey" Mel gave a timid smile when she saw her "they are prepping her to go to X-ray. Then when they know what they are dealing with it will be surgery. The docs already advised the OR and a surgeon."
"Fuck" Gail growled. Poor Andy, more surgery and if it was really bad then Xmas was going to suck for her in a weeks time. She walked over to the head of the bed and ignoring the medical staff looked down on Andy
"Hey. Hayley should be here soon ok. I hear you gonna have more surgery. When you come out I will let you know any news ok?"
Andy tried to nod but it hurt too much. She raised a hand instead and Gail took it offering her friend comfort. There was nothing else she could do but stand there holding Andy's hand, shooting glares at the staff when they told her to move. Luckily Mel stuck around to play mediator.
Gail was ready to hit someone due to the discomfort Andy was in when she became aware of hurried footsteps and looked up to see a pale Hayley racing towards them. "Hey here comes lover girl" Gail teased Andy and stepped back a bit to allow Hayley to step in and lean over the bed. Gail watched as Hayley's jaw worked as she tried to gain control of her emotions.
"Hey love" Hayley whispered and when Andy tried to talk back she shook her head "don't talk baby ok. Lets concentrate on getting you better" Hayley leant in and kissed her forehead just as the doctor told them they needed to take Andy to X-ray and would be back.
"Ok. I'll be right here baby ok. Gail and I will be here when you get back" she promised and shot the Doctor a glare when he went to protest. She leant in one last time and gave Andy a very light Kiss "I love you" she pulled back and Gail gave Andy's hand one last squeeze before she was wheeled away by orderly's.
Gail stepped up behind Hayley and laid a hand on her arm. "Hey?"
Hayley spun and before Gail knew what was going on Hayley had her in a tight embrace. Ok so she wasn't really as bad as she used to be but she really didn't do hugging still. She was going to say something but then felt the fine tremors racking Hayley's body and instead of pushing her away pulled her closer.
"I'm sorry Hayley, it all happened so fast. They were arguing and Oliver and some Inspectors overheard. We all thought it was ok then. We relaxed, Sam took his opportunity and hit her, she spun and hit a wall."
"It's not your fault" Hayley sighed taking a step back finally and Gail looked up at her with concern "I've been trying to get Andy to report him for a couple of weeks. You know Andy though. Hates confrontation"
"Yeah" Gail stuffed her hands in the front jeans pockets and shrugged "I should have known though. He was showing classic signs of usage to anyone that looked. I never paid attention"
"Gail it's no ones fault but Sam's. He's a big boy, he chose the wrong path" Hayley sighed
"They found drugs on him when they processed him. Gerald told me"
"Duncan was there?" Hayley looked amazed and Gail had to chuckle as she told Hayley how Gerald had come to the rescue. "Unbelievable"
"Guess I should actually call him Duncan now" Gail chuckled and Hayley snorted trying to smother a laugh "yeah. Anyway once I find out what's going on I'll let you know. The others stayed back at the station to speak to internals. Give statements about his harassment. What happened tonight etcetera"
"Good. Hope they put the bastard away for a while"
"Yeah. He will probably lose his job. Forced into rehab. I told him to leave the country" Gail grinned and looked around the ER only just noticing Mel gone. Maybe she got a call or had gone out to see the others. Shit, she should go out and let Holly know. "I should let the others know"
"Go. I'll be ok on my own for a few minutes" Hayley instructed
Gail nodded and clapped her on Hayley's back as she strode out towards the waiting room. It was Laura who saw her first and nudged Holly who shot up and hurried over to hug her. Gail held on tight for a few seconds before stepping back to find they were surrounded by curious onlookers.
"Well her nose is broken. They have just taken her to x-ray to find out how bad her jaw is broken but they have already alerted OR and a surgeon so one way or another it will be surgery" she paused as a few swear words were uttered at that. "I gotta head back in, I promised Hayley I wouldn't be too long. Once we know the full extent and she has gone into surgery we will be out"
She gave Holly a last cuddle as the others wandered off, most reassuring Hayley's mother and sister. She took an extra moment to share a gentle kiss with her fiancé and a few quiet words of love before heading back into the ER.
Gail groaned and her and Holly finally staggered through their door at 3 in the morning. They had left Hayley at the hospital sitting beside Andy's bedside after her operation to realign her nose and wire her jaw. Poor woman would be sipping through a straw for a couple of weeks. Not a lot of fun there. Hayley was a combination of distressed and livid.
Nick, Dov and Chloe had showed up at the hospital after giving their statements to tell them that Sam was having a damning mix of charges laid against him so far. Internals were planning to search his house too, find more evidence. Not to mention Interview Hayley, the family and Andy's old neighbours.
Gail wanted to sleep but she had an issue of being covered with Andy's blood still. "I need a shower but I'm so bloody tired" she sighed as she rubbed her eyes with her fist.
Holly grinned, Gail resembled a child stubbornly trying to stay awake all pouty and rubbing her eyes. Damn she could imagine a child of theirs doing the very same thing. It was so cute
"Well I need to freshen up too, so how about a quick shower then bed?"
"Ha babe we never have just a quick shower" Gail snorted as she took her lover by the hand and started leading her upstairs towards the bathroom.
"I know, but tonight I promise to behave. It's late, or early and we both have to be back at work in six hours" Holly sighed, it was going to be so hard to get out of bed in the morning.
Entering the bathroom she winced at the harsh light that was turned on and looked over at Gail who was leaning into the vanity and staring at herself in the mirror.
"Should I hide the scissors?" She asked startling the blonde who merely rolled her eyes and moved to sit on the toilet to take off her boots. Throwing one then the other towards the corner near the wash basket and out of the way. Standing she stripped off her dark hoodie which was covered in Andy's blood leaving her standing in a thin tank.
Holly gulped and beat back her arousal, so not appropriate at this time as she turned slightly away and went about divesting herself of her own clothes and trying studiously to ignore Gail's nakedness.
She heard the shower come on just as she was stepping out of her underwear and looked up in time to see Gail step over the bath and into the tub. Damn the woman was beautiful and she thanked God for her every day. She kept her on her toes but she honestly didn't know what she would do without her.
Stepping into the tub herself she carefully moved up behind Gail who had the water steaming hot and wrapped her arms around her. Gail leant back against her as if needing support and perhaps she did. The woman had been running herself ragged after only just being fit enough to return to duty. It was bound to take its toll.
"Come on, lets get clean and get some shut eye" she whispered, leaning around Gail to grab the soap. Lathering it in her hands she gently started to wash the pale back that was still facing her. She smiled when her fiancé sighed gently, relaxing into her touch as she spread the soap down over her back to her upper buttocks, where the sigh turned into a soft groan.
"Behave" she chuckled hurrying over the rounded ass as she squat down to soap Gail's legs. When she reached ankles Gail automatically turned and deceptively strong fingers speared into Holly's hair.
"This position ain't helping matters lunchbox" she moaned as strong sure hands worked their way up. Holly merely shook her head and skirted the spot where she knew Gail most wanted her to be. Where she most wanted to be and washed over hips before lathering again and starting with Gail's stomach.
When she reached those gorgeous breasts topped with pink nipples she was quick but thorough, winking at Gail when the pink nipples hardened into aroused buds.
"You're such a fucking tease" Gail growled when the brunette continued up over her shoulders and then down her arms.
"You love it" Holly chuckled at her dilemma "now rinse off while I wash myself"
"But you missed a spot" Gail grinned and pointed south which caused Holly to snort unladylike.
"Not on your life sunshine. Wash it yourself. I for one need sleep. We're not at the cabin now" she teased with a wink as she continued to wash herself. Gail sighed and stepped further under the spray and started to rinse off, her eyes never leaving Holly though who was taking infinitely more care in washing herself than she had with Gail. Gail watched mesmerised as she placed a foot on the edge of the bath and slowly started to lather from her ankle up. When she reached the juncture of her thighs she turned and gave Gail a saucy grin.
"Close your mouth Officer, it's rude to gawk"
Gail's mouth snapped closed and she gave a squeak, Holly laughed.
"Minx" Gail growled before raising her own leg onto the bath ledge and slowly lowering her hand between her thighs. This time it was Holly who stared, mouth agape as Gail studiously cleaned herself, biting back a moan as arousal shot through her. Ok, this was backfiring in a major way, best to not watch Holly watching her as she made a point of finishing her cleansing and lowering her leg. She turned away from Holly and took her face wash to cleanse her face quickly and after rinsing off stepped out of the shower.
Looking back over her shoulder she saw Holly had barely moved other than to watch her and had to grin
"Hurry up nerd, sleep times awasting" she ordered and reaching for her towel turned to dry herself off. She heard movement behind her but never looked back as she quickly dried off, hung up her towel and headed for the bedroom.
She was just crawling into bed in her pjs when Holly came strolling naked into the room. God damn. She bit her lips as her whole body clenched and she had to squeeze her legs together. Holly was simply gorgeous naked, with her toned body, tanned skin and that God damn belly button ring.
She snuggled into bed and closed her eyes to try and preserve her sanity as she listened to Holy move about the room getting ready for bed herself. When she felt the covers lift she had to grin and congratulated herself on not jumping her gorgeous lover. She really did need the sleep.
"Don't forget to set the alarm. 7.30 should be late enough" she sighed as she turned on her side and relaxed into the soft sheets.
Long minutes later Holly finally shuffled in close and wrapped her arm around her, pressing her warm body in close to her back.
"You know payback is a bitch right"
"I can't wait" Gail smiled and heard Holly chuckle before a light kiss was pressed to her neck. "Love you"
"Love you too nerd" Gail sighed, sleep already coming over her.
