I know I'm almost free from this nightmare, but I'm getting so tired. It would be so easy to stop and rest.
Twilight could feel her resolve about to give way. Just when she thought she was going to collapse, she reached the exit. The corridor ended in a dark stretch before a stone door.
Twilight took a moment to catch her breath, as she would have no way of knowing what was behind the door or if she would have to defend herself, and went through the door.
After so long in the dimly lit tunnel, Twilight's eyes burned when hit with the extreme brightness of the world around her. She stood on a ledge in front of a stone bridge, the door she'd come through had disappeared. As Twilight's eyes adjusted to the intense light, she began making her way across the stone bridge.
Well, it's a fitting scene for escape from nightmares, Twilight thought, looking out at the endless glowing landscape. But do I really want to escape?
Twilight stopped, wondering what had caused her to think that. She looked around and, seeing nothing, continued on her way.
Soon I'll be back in the real world, surrounded my friends. With loads of work to be done. With ponies angry at me for being gone so long. I mean, yeah I'll be home, but home is in an unforgiving, cold world. Why would I want to go back to that when the House is so welcoming? Maybe I should just turn back around and-
Twilight stopped again. Something was wrong, these weren't her own thought. She had a bad feeling about who's thoughts they were, and upon hearing that spine chilling chuckle from behind her, knew that her feeling was right.
"My dear you must be awfully brave and strong to have made it this far, but it's time to stop with these foolish games and go back to the House." Gregory said. Twilight actually laughed, "Sorry, but it really is funny that you of all things are telling me to stop playing games. You started this, I'm just ending it."
"Why would you want to go back anyway? What's that other world have that Gregory House doesn't?" Gregory questioned. "Friendship, for one thing, and family, love, and a home where I can sleep without the fear that I'll wake up dead. I don't know why you want or need me here, but I'm not staying to find out."
Twilight got ready to run, fast, but then Gregory stopped her with a single question, "What about Nekozombie?" Seeing that Twilight had stopped, Gregory continued, "He was your friend. He helped you plan, helped you fight; he even saved your life once or twice. And in return you left him in the House to rot."
"He… didn't have it in him to escape." Twilight said, mostly to herself. "Oh, he wasn't strong enough so you left him behind. That makes more sense." Gregory said grinning. "I'm not leaving him behind! After I get out, I'm sending a whole army to save him and level this place!" Twilight shouted.
"Oh please! By now you must have figured out that leaving is a one way trip. Once you're out, you're out; no coming back for a rescue." Gregory said. Twilight hadn't considered that. She'd still been thinking of Gregory House as having a geographical location that could be returned to, but thinking about it now, it made sense that this place was more ether and magic than wood planks and brick.
Twilight stood there for a moment, not knowing what to do. Turning back would mean giving up on her escape, possible forever. But continuing forward would mean giving up on her very ideals; it would mean abandoning a friend.
It wasn't a choice she wanted to think about, thinking about it would make it harder to make. Her choice was made instinctively when she heard Gregory take a step towards her and took off. There was no low cavern roof now, and she could fly to cover more ground. Twilight kept flying long after Gregory's laugh faded into the background. She just kept flying, trying to ignore the tears streaming down her face.
