(Percy's P.O.V.)
I was sitting on the floor, playing with Luke, when Annabeth and Thalia rushed in with the groceries. I got up, kissing Annabeth quickly and then grabbed some bags helping to put away the groceries. Luke started blubbering since I had left him, and Thalia soon took my place. I pecked Annabeth's cheek, and poured the coffee into the glass container next to the sugar container. Luke giggled at Thalia, who was making his dinosaur toy eat one of the soldiers. When Annabeth and I finished putting the food away we sat on the couch, watching Thalia and Luke play on the floor. I kissed Annabeth's temple, and she cuddled back into my chest, her legs pulled up to her chest as she watched Luke with the motherly twinkle of hers. Thalia hopped up and looked at her watch.
"Sorry guys. Artemis wants me to lead a hunt," She said, and then kneeled down to Luke's level, "I will see you later mister," She said, stood, waved and then walked out the front door, shutting it loudly behind her.
Luke looked up at us, and then crawled into Annabeth's lap, cuddling into her chest and abdomen. She stroked his hair, parting it correctly, and he held onto her shirt with his chubby little hands. His big, sea green eyes closed and his breathing evened out. I nuzzled my nose into Annabeth's neck, and she leaned further into my chest. I breathed deeply, and felt her breathing become even against my own chest. I very carefully slipped out from behind her, lying her head on a pillow and covering her and Jack with the quilt, making sure neither's face was covered. I smiled the the two, and shut the living room light off. I went to Annabeth and I's room and pulled out some papers I needed to grade this weekend. I sat down in my wheely chair, and then pulled it closer to my desk looking over the exam. I marveled sometimes at how forgetful or moronic my students could be.
(Three or so hours later. Time: 4:27)
Annabeth was still asleep but Luke had woken up, and had wriggled out of Annabeth's deadly sleeping grip. He toddled into the kitchen where I was making spaghetti for an early dinner, so Luke could go to bed early since he had been sick for a few days. I felt his forehead, checking for a fever, which he didn't have. I sighed with relief, and looked down at him.
"Are you a big boy enough to put forks on the table?" I asked, and he nodded sullenly, grabbing three forks and carrying them to the small table. I stirred the pasta, and then walked over to Annabeth. I kneeled down and kissed her forehead. "Wake up," I muttered, and she stirred.
Her lids rose above her grey eyes and she stretched out, yawning widely. I smiled, pushing her hair out of her face. Luke toddled over climbing up on the couch and shook Annabeth, even though she was already awake, "Wake up mommy," He said and then giggled when Annabeth sat up, yawning once again. She then proceeded to tickle Luke who squealed.
"Hey Luke wanna go to the zoo tomorrow," She asked totally out of the blue. Luke's eyes became huge and he nodded excitedly.
Annabeth turned to me and I shrugged. Honestly, I loved the zoo, but I wasn't going to act like the two-year-old about it, even though I could have. I heard the water boiling over in the kitchen, and I hopped up, jogging to the kitchen I took the cooked pasta off the burner and dumped it into the culendar. I then took the sauce off the stove, stirring it once more. I put the pasta into it's former bowl, and then put the sauce on top of it. I left some plain pasta out because Luke didn't like it. I looked at Annabeth, and she shook her head. I went back to setting plates out and decided that Luke could eat at the coffee table, and I would sit on the couch. I brought Luke and I's food out, and Luke happily began eating while I ate slower watching Annabeth.
"You okay," I asked, nudging her gently with my shoulder.
"Stomach pains," She said, throwing her frizzy, bed head hair up into a pony tail.
"Did you take anything," I questioned further over a mouthful of spaghetti.
"No. I'm fine Percy," She said, now irritated as she stood up. She went to our bedroom, and I set my plate down, following her.
"Hey," I said, grabbing her arm before she could storm into the bathroom. I pulled her to face me, "What's wrong?"
"Percy, I told you I'm fine," She said with a sigh.
"No you're not. I know fine Annabeth. Your not fine," I said, placing a hand on her cheek.
"My stomach just hurts Percy. I'm going to take a shower," She said, yanking away and going into the bathroom.
I frowned, shook my head and went back to the living room to eat.
(The next day at around noon.)
I grabbed the cooler, and the stroller that would be carrying Luke and 14 month old Alyssa, who is Jason and Piper's kid. Jason and Piper were the only others going with us today. Annabeth fixed her shorts, and then the loose graffiti run shirt, from the year we had participated at camp. There was a knock on the door and I opened it smiling at the pair, and then at Alyssa. Annabeth rushed over quickly, her woman instincts pulling her to hold the baby that had just entered the room.
"Good morning, pretty girl," Annabeth cooed after Piper handed Alyssa over. "You have gotten so big," Annabeth said lightly tickling the baby's sides.
I smiled to myself and then felt Luke tugging on my pants. I looked down into his big sea green eyes, and he reached up to hold my hand. I set the cooler down, grabbing his little hand. Luke practically clung to my leg, not sure what to think of these new people I guessed. He watched them with big, concentrated eyes, but never took a step forward. He stood right next to my leg, clutching my hand. I slid some sunglasses on my head, and momentarily let go of Luke's hand to pick the cooler pack up. He then proceeded to sit on my foot, wrapping his arms around my leg. I looked down at him, shaking my head. I carried the stuff to the trunk of our much larger car, all with Luke on my foot. I walked back up the stairs, Luke giggling every time I stepped up. I smiled at his adorable giggle, and I re-entered the apartment. I looked around, and deemed that we were good to go. Annabeth had finally given Alyssa up and now walked over to Luke, fixing his hair which he then messed up again, only allowing that when he was exhausted. I followed the others out the door, putting Luke in his car seat, and strapping him in. I slid into the driver's seat, and started the car.
When we finally reached the zoo I pocketed the keys, slid out and opened the trunk getting the cooler and stroller out. I set up the stroller and put the cooler in the netting under the seats. I also grabbed Alyssa's diaper bag and put it in the netting. I went to the side of the car where Luke was buckled in. I opened the door and unbuckled him, picking him up and setting him down in the front seat of the stroller, pulling the shade down a bit so his sensitive skin wouldn't burn. Alyssa was put in the back seat with the shade pulled down as far as it would go. Jason was going to push the stroller first, then I would after we got through the first section of animals. I laced my fingers with Annabeth's as we got to the ticket booth to pay.
"Four adults a two year old and a one year old," Annabeth said, and since both kids were so young we only had to pay for the four of us.
We entered the zoo, our hands now stamped with a purple ink, and we looked at the signs, trying to decide which area to hit first. My immediate thought was the aquatic section, but instead we chose the savannah. I slipped the sunglasses on my head over my eyes, and slipped an arm around Annabeth's thin waist. Annabeth snapped a picture of the two of us on her expensive camera, both of us smiling widely. We came to the elephants and Luke lifted his arms out at Annabeth and I, wanting to be let out. I picked him up and held him by the edge of the enclosure.
"Perce. Picture," Annabeth said holding up her camera, ready to take a picture.
I turned, and told Luke to smile. He smiled his toothy little grin, and I smiled my lopsided grin, holding him securely with both arms. Annabeth smiled after she snapped the picture.
After a few hours we finally made our way to the aquatic life section and we walked through the humid, jungle region of the aquatic section where there were piranhas and other river, lake, and pond creatures. Luke had decided to walk at this point, and Alyssa was asleep in the stroller. Jason and Piper were looking at the eels, pushing the stroller, while Annabeth and I were following Luke who pushed his face and hands to the glass, that was holding the fish and other such creatures. At the moment he was looking at a gigantic alligator snapping turtle, and the turtle slowly moved its head, and Luke jumped back smiling like a bandit. He ran over to Annabeth and I, pulling on Annabeth's pant leg.
"Mommy it wooked at me," He said, almost triumphantly.
Luke pulled Annabeth to look at the turtle, and I let my arm slide from her waist and I walked over as well, looking at the old creature.
"He must like you sweetie," Annabeth said, kneeling down to what Luke was seeing. She looked back at me, and I smiled. She stuck her tongue out, which just made me smile more.
Luke then race to the opposite side of the stone walkway, looking at some trout. Annabeth stood back up, and I lied my arm across her shoulders, and her arm went around my waist. I nuzzled a bit behind her ear and muttered, "Feel any better?"
"I'm okay Percy. I was just a little sick," She said, kissing me momentarily.
I nodded, not necessarily believing her. We continued to follow Luke to wherever he wanted to go, until we entered the ocean/sea life where it was dark. He stayed with us then, and as soon as he saw the sharks he ran towards the tank, but stopped when he saw the glass under his feet. He got down on his hands and knees and stared in wonder through the glass, where some fish were beneath the floor. We sauntered over, and he looked up at us pointing down through the glass. I chuckled softly and Annabeth snapped another picture of Luke staring down, with a smile on his face, through the glass. Piper and Jason caught up and wandered to the jelly fish that were stuck in a small tank. Luke finally got over the glass floor, and ran up to the tank, looking at the fish and sharks swimming there. He spotted a moray eel, and I looked at it too.
"That's ugwee," Luke said with a frown, pointing at the eel.
"Watch out or he'll…" I said, pausing and then grabbing Luke from behind making him startle, and then giggle. "Getcha."
I tickled his sides, and he giggled uncontrollably, and I saw Annabeth smile behind us. I stopped tickling him when he started squealing, and everyone started looking at us. Luke grabbed both my ears, with his chubby little hands.
"No daddy," He said, trying to act like we do with him when he misbehaves.
"Why not?" I ask, snapping my teeth as if to bite him.
He giggles, pushing my face away with his hands, "Mommy hep me," He squealed.
Annabeth walked over, stealing him from me. She began kissing all over his face, and he giggled even more. I smiled, and pretended to fight Annabeth for him. Luke tried covering his face, but Annabeth found spots he couldn't cover, and then he'd move his hands to cover the spots she had just kissed. Annabeth laughed, and stopped kissing his face, and we continued through the zoo
After we got back to the apartment, Jason, Piper and Alyssa went home and we went into our apartment. I was carrying a ton of toys that we had bought for Luke at the gift shop. Luke was carrying a long moray eel stuffed animal he had found. He stumbled to his room where he set the eel on the floor by his crib. I set down the several other stuffed animals he had which included, a giraffe, an elephant, a zebra, a fish, a shark and some sort of deer. Luke looked at me smiling, and he went to his dresser, looking at me.
"You need a change bud?" I asked, and picked him up, putting him on the changing table.
We were in the process of potty training him, but he wasn't quite there yet. I changed him and put him in footie pajamas. I set him down and he ran out to the living room, where Annabeth was sitting on the couch, working. Luke climbed up onto the couch, watching Annabeth and the blueprints. I went to Annabeth and I's bathroom and took a shower. I stepped out, tied a towel around my waist, and then put toothpaste on my toothbrush. I turned the water on lightly, and watered the toothbrush down, starting to brush my teeth. I looked around the bathroom and then spotted something in the trashcan. I frowned, continuing to brush my teeth, and then I reached down to pick it up, and saw a few more in the garbage. I spit, and then rinsed my toothbrush out, putting it back in the cup.
I opened the door, and shouted, "Annabeth wha…?"
Annabeth was standing in our room holding Luke who was looking at her hair, and then touched it. Annabeth smiled hesitantly and said, "Surprised."
Well there we go.
How do you think Luke should be about a new sibling?
How do you like it so far?
